However, there is a lack of information regarding the use of this material in larger defects and in conjunction with membranes. The objective of this study is to test the behavior of PTGs used to fill critical size defects in rabbit tibiae, with and without membranes. Critical defects were created in both tibiae of rabbits, divided randomly into three groups: Group A (defect filled with PTG), Group B (defect filled with PTG+collagen membrane) and a control group (empty defect). After six weeks, histomorphometric analysis was performed. The results showed more defect closures at the cortical area (87.37%±2.2%) and more bone formation at the marrow area (57.6%± 1.3%) in Group B, in comparison with the other groups (P〈0.05); the use of membranes improved the material stability expressed as more percentages of the original material when membranes were used (P〈0.05). Finally, inflammatory reactions were observed when the granules were not protected by membranes. In spite of the limitations of this animal study, it may be concluded that PTG particles are osteoconductive and allow bone growth. The PTG particles must be covered by a membrane, especially when grafting larger defects, in order to control particle migration, promote clot stabilization and separate the PTG graft from undesired soft tissue cells.展开更多

Aerobic granules cultivated in AGS-MBR possess smooth surface and compact structure in morphology as well as better settling property and higher biomass after 38 days. The average parameters of aerobic granules are: diameter 3. 1 mm,wet density 1. 041 g/mL,sludge volume index 42. 35 mL/g and settling velocity 20. 6 - 45. 2 cm/min. During the start-up of AGS-MBR,the respectively average contaminants removal efficiencies at low temperature are 91. 9% for chemical oxygen demand (COD) ,89. 2% for NH4 + -N and 86. 3% for PO43- -P,and the overgrowth of filamentous bacteria has been well controlled. In addition, the hollow fiber microfiltration (MF) membrane fouling is light and the regime membrane layer is capable of enhancing membrane filtration as well as the average growth of trans-membrane pressure (TMP) is 1. 07 kPa/d. Compared with the conventional cultivation of aerobic granules, the sludge granulation time significantly decreases from 73 days to 38 days by the application of microfiltration membrane at low temperature.展开更多

Platelet activation may play an important role in pathologic progress in lung cancer. In this study, we aimed to clarify the influence of activated platelets on lung cancer generation and growth, and the relationship among these functional and ultrastructural chanqes of platelets and the severity of pathoeenetic condition in these Datients with NSCLC.Methods One hundred and thirty-six cases of patients with pathologically confirmed NSCLC were included in this study. Fifty-four healthy people were enrolled as controls. The change of ultra microstructure and activity of blood platelets were observed under the transmission and scanning electron microscope. Simultaneous determination of plasma granule membrane protein 140 (GMP-140) was made. Results Transmission electron microscopy showed remarkable changes of ultra microstructure of platelets in patients with NSCLC, including swelling, increase of α-granules, vesicles, and glycogenosome. Scanning electron microscopy showed many more surface processes and wrinkles on platelets in patients with NSCLC. The reference plasma levels of GMP-140 of healthy controls were (18.2±2.7) μg/L. The plasma levels of GMP-140 in patients with NSCLC were (47.8±12.3) μg/L, which were much higher than those of the controls. There was a medium positive correlation between plasma levels of GMP-140 and amount of α-granules (r=0.514, P 〈0.01) and a high positive correlation between plasma levels of GMP-140 and area of platelet (r=0.84, P 〈0.01) in patients with NSCLC. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed significant shift to the left in patients with NSCLC whose a-granules per platelet were 19 or more compared to those 18 or less (Log rank statistic, X^2= 17.38, P〈0.01).Conclusions There are significant activated changes of ultra microstructure and increased activity of blood platelets in patients with NSCLC. These activated platelets may play an important role in the generation and growth of lung cancer. These changes can be used as a diagnostic index of severity, progression, and prognosis of NSCLC.展开更多

Each patient was classified according to TCM Syndrome Differentiation as having Cold Syndrome type, Heat Syndrome type, severe blood stasis (SBS) type, and mild blood stasis (MBS) type of UAP. Garlicin 60 mg or nitroglycerin 5 mg was given to the two groups respectively by intravenous drip for 10days as one therapeutic course. The curative effect was evaluated by symptomatic changes and electrocardiogram. The effective rates as well as indexes such as blood lipid, lipoprotein, apolipoprotein, and granule membrane protein-140 (GMP-140) were compared between groups and types. Results: Garlicin and nitroglycerin group did not differ significantly in effective rate, while that of Garlicin group was higher for the Cold Syndrome type than that of Heat Syndrome type (P < 0. 01 ). The high density lipoprotein/low density lipoprotein ratio and apolipoprotein A- I level rose markedly in the former type (P < 0. 05), while an opposite trend was seen in the Heat Syndrome type. Garlicin was more effective in the SBS type than that in the MBS type, and it markedly decreased GMP-140 in the MBS type. Conclusions: Garlicin is effective in UAP, especially the Cold Syndrome and SBS types. Its mechanism may involve improving blood lipid levels and inhibiting platelet activation.展开更多
