A new triaxial apparatus was designed and manufactured. It is able to applysurcharge and combined vacuum-surcharge pressures on soil samples, and allows for monitoring ofexcess pore-water pressure, axial strain or settlement, and volumetric strain during the process ofconsolidation. Tests were performed using the apparatus on undisturbed soft clayey soil samples,which were collected from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, at average natural water content 72. 5%. The consolidation behavior of theclay has no rigorous difference, whether it is consolidatedunder the vacuum, surcharge, or combined vacuum-surcharge preloading. The study shows that somephysical properties of the soft clayey soils are changed and mechanical properties are improved tosupport excessive loads transferred to the soil foundation due to construction. 展开更多

Comparison of absorption or permeability between textured and supplied yarns, and comparison of absorption or permeability and bonded tenacity between the two kinds of fabrics have been elucidated. 展开更多

The purpose of this paper is to show that autobiographical works like Gabrielle Roy's Enchantment and Sorrow (1988) and R6gine Robin's La Qudbdcoite (1983), do not succeed in anchoring the self and eliminating past traumatic experiences. These writers realize that they cannot reincarnate their former 'T' as time has passed and their lives have changed. The self does not let itself be reduced to a definite being but on the contrary mirrors itsef in all its surroundings. Writing the fragmentation of the self makes these authobiographies appear on one hand, fictional as the "I" always eludes itself. But on the other hand, they best describe the postmodern 'T' who is conscious of the permeability of one's own self as well inwards by the influences, the collages of others on the Self as outwards by the projection of the self onto others, like rhizome connecting to others and forming a web of exchanges like in cyberspace 展开更多

The paper analyses the effect of stitch geometrical modality changing after moisture absorption on the porosity of knitted fabrics,and educes the formulas between porosity and stitch parameters.Regarding as the cell stitch,the increasing of yarn diameter brings the porosity decreasing and the fabric shrinking in the wale direction.While the diameter keeps invariability,the yarn elongating brings the fabric humping up as well as the increasing porosity.The air-permeability experiments have been conducted to validate the theoretical analysis,and there is reasonable agreement between the theories and experiments. 展开更多

In this paper, we discussed the relationship of filter effictency and pressure drop with the porosity, fiber diameter and filter thickness by Oeodict. We found that filter efficiency will increase when filter porosity and fiber diameter decreasing or filter thickness increasing. And the pressure drop has a linear relationship with filter thickness and non-linear relationship with filter porosity and fiber diameter. We also compared the simulation results with the real test results by TSI 3160. Although there are some differences, I think Ocodict can be used to predict filter effictency and pressure drop. 展开更多

Characteristics of Solar Radiation and the Impact of Clouds at Yangbajing, Tibet

The annual mean sola... Yangbajing (YBJ) is located in the Tibetan Plateau, China. The characteristics of solar radiation and its relationship with clouds at YBJ from April 2009 to April 2010 were analyzed in this paper. The annual mean solar radiation was 478.4 W m 2 , and the annual mean transmittance was 0.713. The atmospheric mean trans- mittance of clear skies reaches 0.828 when the solar elevation angle (SEA) is greater than 10 degrees. Comparisons with numerical simulations show that the atmosphere of YBJ is clean. Impacts from atmospheric conditions on solar radiation are similar for clear skies during the year because the standard deviation of transmittance in clear skies was less than 0.05 when the SEA was greater than 10 degrees. It is important to understand the impact of clouds on solar radiation without considering other impact factors. In the last part of this article, the authors analyzed and established a statistical quantitative relationship between surface solar radiation and cloud fraction. 展开更多

Agroinfection of sweet potato by vacuum infiltration of an infectious sweepovirus

Sweepovirus is an important monopartite begomovirus that infects plants of the genus Ipomoea worldwide. Development of artificial infection methods for sweepovirus using agroinoculation is a highly efficient means of studying infectivity in sweet potato. Unlike other begomoviruses, it has proven difficult to infect sweet potato plants with sweepoviruses using infectious clones. A novel sweepovirus, called Sweet potato leaf curl virus-Jiangsu(SPLCV-JS), was recently identified in China. In addition, the infectivity of the SPLCV-JS clone has been demonstrated in Nicotiana benthamiana. Here we describe the agroinfection of the sweet potato cultivar Xushu 22 with the SPLCV-JS infectious clone using vacuum infiltration. Yellowing symptoms were observed in newly emerged leaves. Molecular analysis confirmed successful inoculation by the detection of viral DNA. A synergistic effect of SPLCV-JS and the heterologous betasatellite DNA-β of Tomato yellow leaf curl China virus isolate Y10(TYLCCNV-Y10) on enhanced symptom severity and viral DNA accumulation was confirmed. The development of a routine agroinoculation system in sweet potato with SPLCV-JS using vacuum infiltration should facilitate the molecular study of sweepovirus in this host and permit the evaluation of virus resistance of sweet potato plants in breeding programs. 展开更多

An effective design method of freeform micro lens array is presented for shaping varied laser beams into prescribed rectangular illumination. The variable separation mapping is applied to design concave freeform surfaces for constructing a freeform lens array. Several dedicated examples show that the designed freeform optical lens array can achieve a prescribed rectangular illumination pattern, especially without considering the initial states of incident laser beams. Both high collection efficiency and good spatial uniformity can be available simultaneously. Tolerance analysis is also performed to demonstrate that this optical device can well avoid fabricating difficulty in actual applications. 展开更多
