Opera is a dramatic multimedia genre which fuses solo and choral singing with instrumental accompaniment, dance, staging, costumes, scenery, and libretto. This multimedia approach can inspire painters, sculptors, poets, writers, and other musicians in their works. Italian opera greatly inspired Pompeo Coppini--the Italian sculptor. In particular, scenes and arias by Verdi and Puccini correlate with specific tasks involved in the creation of a monument. In creating the Alamo cenotaph, Coppini often played Gioacchino Rossini's opera, "William Tell" (1829) correlating the sacrifices made by Texans for their independence at the Alamo (1836) with the sacrifices made by Swiss patriots in their independence from Austrian tyranny. This case study suggests that art music can enhance creativity and visual attention among artists of all genres.展开更多

The large prestige of this repertoire, in fact, often goes along with a distorted perception of a number of very important features that tend to be underrated, discarded or not taken in the due consideration by the public. Only recently has musicology paid attention to the danger of this stereotyped vision of classical music, regarded as a sort of temple of seriousness, or as a kingdom where an alleged harmony reigns unchallenged. The topic of this article is precisely the other side of classical music, which also turns out to be a world torn by conflict and filled with artistic tension, where things do not always add up. To support this standpoint, a number of very well-known pieces are considered, paying attention to their less reassuring features. Thus, compositions that seemed to be familiar show a complex and disturbing expressive texture. As a result, a widespread listening attitude finds reasonable grounds for being changed: Instead of languidly leaning back into the armchair with closed eyes, the unbiased listener is requested by the music itself to keep its eyes wide open.展开更多

Also from the ancient age, we, humans, knew to mix colors with oil to draw. Materials at the time, however, were very gross with many shortcomings and limitations. Over the time, many generations of painters have taken great pains to search for materials and craped for paint. Nevertheless, only until the age of Van Eyck brothers (around 1390-1441) they gained great success in accomplishing and developing oil-painting techniques. Oil-painting colors until this age got purer, brighter, shinier, waterproof, sustainable, and endurable with time. Since then, oil-paint has been widely used in almost countries worldwide. It can be said that the accomplishment of oil-paint is a great technical revolution that changes and enhances the picture painting art. The painting ofoil in English means oil painting. It is the kind of the most popular and favorite pictures. It is called as the name of painting material. Over 200 works were put on display at the Kimbell Art Museum that revealed the formative years in the French painter's works. The drawings and paintings confirmed Poussin as the leading classicist in 17th century French art and expanded our appreciation of the flexibility of the artist to illustrate mythological narratives. Previous positions on the artist such as Anthony Blunt's, who viewed the painter as a strict classicist without a major interest in color, are now reevaluated after the Fort Worth show. The influence of the Venetian school, especially the work of Titian, emerged stronger into Poussin's oeuvre. It was under the classicist umbrella that the romantic verse of Ovid and the sensual color of Titian became forged into the pictures of Roman mythology. The leading source of inspiration for this work would be Ovid's Metamorphoses where figures change into flowers made timeless by the painter's brush. Just as the poet varied the structure of his narrative presentation, so too did the painter expand his approach to depicting scenes of change in a variety of formats. A key work for Poussin in these stories of change would be the Kingdom of Flora (1631) where Ovidian tales are posed as an eternal spring where the goddess distributes the flowers of the collective narrative in an olive green chitin. This paper will contribute to the position of viewing Poussin's art under a wider vision of classicism where flexible narrative design and sensuous color fit the mission to make art noble and timeless.展开更多

Wagner's such readings were parts of wider narrations of archeology and how Greeks perceived their past. This research is largely based on primary sources of that time; its arguments construct two levels of critique: (1) Admiration (the 'proper' aesthetic examples are German models, as exemplified in Wagner's work); and (2) "Hellenism" as a means to distancing from Wagner (The past of ancient Greece is still believed to be better understood by the Greeks). The principal conclusions are: (1) Wagner's views were admired because Wagner's example (ancient culture) should also be an example for Greek composers; and (2) Wagner's views were judged on the grounds of: Ideology: the expression of the "soul"; the theory of "historic continuity"; the balance between music, poetry, and dance; Wagner gave superiority to music, modem Greeks (should) give a predominant role to language as a means of expression in an ancient drama, or achieve a balance among the three arts of music, poetry, and dance.展开更多
