The results were as follows: 1. The light-saturated photosynthetic rates of transgenic rice plants were higher than that of wild type, in which the light-saturated point of PEPC and PPDK+PEPC transgenic rice plants was 200 μmol·m -2·s -1 higher than that of untransformed rice and the light-saturated photosynthetic rates were 51.6% and 58.5% respectively. The carboxylation efficiency of PEPC transgenic rice plant increased by 49.3% and the CO 2 compensation point decreased by 26.2% than that of untransformed rice. Under high temperature (35 ℃), the photosynthetic rate of PEPC transgenic rice plant was higher over 17.5% than that of untransformed rice. 2. On the 8th day after photoinhibition treatment, the PSⅡ photochemical efficiency (F v/F m) and photochemical quenching (qP) of PEPC and PPDK+PEPC transgenic rice plants decreased by about 20%-30% while the non-photochemical quenching (qN) increased by approximately 30%. But F v/F m and qP of untransformed rice decreased by over 50% while qN increased by less than 10%. The result suggested that transgenic rice plants were more tolerant to photoinhibition.展开更多

Actins are usually divided into two classes, the cytoplasmic and muscle actins, which have different functional roles. Here we systematically analyzed the actin genes in the genome of the primitive chordate amphioxus (Branchiostoma floridae). We found that amphioxus contains more than 30 actin genes, many of which are linked. Phylogenetic analysis suggests the amphioxus actin genes have clearly undergone extensive expansion through tandem duplications. The actin genes' structure also varies a lot, containing 2 to 7 exons. We also cloned two muscle type of actin genes from the amphioxus (B. belcheri) and compared their expression patterns during early development. The slight difference in their expression suggests functional diversification of these actin genes. Our results shed light on the evolution both of actin genes themselves and their functional roles in chordate development.展开更多

In a previous study, we found that TGF-β and its receptors were expressed in gastric mucosa of patients with well-healed gastric ulcers, as demonstrated by immunohistochemistry. To further characterize the role of TGF-β and its receptors in repairing gastric ulcers, we investigated the expression patterns of TGF-β and its receptors in gastric mucosa by in situ hybridization and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).METHODS: Seventy-four patients with endoscopically proven gastric ulcers were eligible for participation in this study. All patients had routine biopsies on initial endoscopy and were then treated for 12 wk with an H2 blocker. Repeat endoscopy was then performed. There were 8 patients with poorly healed ulcers, and biopsies were taken from the margin of the residual ulcers. These tissue samples, along with biopsy of gastric mucosa near the original ulcers from 8 randomly selected patients with well-healed ulcers were examined for TGF-β and TGF-β receptor Ⅱ mRNA by RT-PCR and in situ hybridization, as well as immunohistochemistry.RESULTS: TGF-β and TGF-β receptor Ⅱ were strongly expressed in tissues from patients with well-healed ulcers.Four of the 8 patients with poor healing had low or absent expression of TGF-β or TGF-β receptor Ⅱ mRNA. All cases positive by RT-PCR assay were confirmed by in situ hybridization as well as immunohistochemistry.CONCLUSION: It is suggested that TGF-β and its receptors are important for gastric ulcer healing. These results may have implications for further investigation of the healing process and in predicting response to therapy.展开更多

According to its composition and property we have researched the purification and modification of I/S bentonite under conditions of different dispersants and sodium agent. XRD test result reveals that the essential minerals of Panzhihua bentonite are I/S mixed-layer ones, and FTIR analysis shows that when adding 1.5% sodium pyrophosphate to the bentonite slurry during purification, the composition of quartz in bentonite decreases to less than 4% and I/S is more than 90%. The optimized modification technic conditions are Na2CO3 (4%) and CMC-Na (3%) as modified agents, the clay and water are 10 vs. 1, and the temperature is 75℃. It is 40 min for stirring time and reacting time is 4 h. Under the conditions we can get the modified I/S bentonite with colloid index more than 500 nd/15 g.展开更多

We find the following results: (a) For the decays B- B→a0(1450)ρ- andB→a0^+(1450)ρ^-, their branching ratios have large difference between two scenarios. Although their branching ratios are larger than other considered decay modes, their direct CP-violating asymmetries in both scenarios are small. (b) For the decays B-→a0^-(1450)ρ0 and B0→ a0(1450)ρ+, a0^0(1450)ρ0, a00 (1450)w, their branching ratios are dose to each other between two scenarios, respectively. (c) Comparing with the decays a0^0(1450)ρ0,π0ρ0 π0π0, the decay B-→a0^-(1450)ρ0 receives a larger branching ratio in each scenario, which is sensitive to the variation of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle α.展开更多

Surprisingly, to date no comprehensive evaluation of the nucleotide substitution patterns has been conducted on the mitochondrial genome of primates. Here, we analyzed the evolutionary patterns and evaluated selection and recombination in the mitochondrial genomes of 44 Primates species downloaded from Genl3ank. The results revealed that a strong rate heterogeneity occurred among sites and genes in all comparisons. Likewise, an obvious decline in primate nucleotide diversity was noted in the subunit rRNAs and tRNAs as compared to the protein-coding genes. Within 13 protein-coding genes, the pattern of nonsynonymous divergence was similar to that of overall nucleotide divergence, while synonymous changes differed only for individual genes, indicating that the rate heterogeneity may result from the rate of change at nonsynonymous sites. Codon usage analysis revealed that there was intermediate codon usage bias in primate protein-coding genes, and supported the idea that GC mutation pressure might determine codon usage and that positive selection is not the driving force for the codon usage bias. Neutrality tests using site-specific positive selection from a Bayesian framework indicated no sites were under positive selection for any gene, consistent with near neutrality. Recombination tests based on the pairwise homoplasy test statistic supported complete linkage even for much older divergent primate species. Thus, with the exception of rate heterogeneity among mitochondrial genes, evaluating the validity assumed complete linkage and selective neutrality in primates prior to phylogenetic or phylogeographic analysis seems unnecessary.展开更多
