Average genetic multiplicity index(Hs) was 0.46 and 0.67 respectively. The average polymorphism information content (PIC) was 0.43 and 0.58 in aromatic and non-aromatic rice respectively. This study carried out to isolate S. aureus from different clinical cases, also detection of MRSA prevalence and VRSA emergence, in addition to shedding light on strains that have to be multidrug resistance against various antibiotics, The clinical samples were collected from AI-Jumhuory Teaching Hospital patients in Mosul, isolates identification were achieved by conventional procedures including biochemical and physiological tests, and the specific latex agglutination test. The sensitivity pattern achieved by using disk diffusion technique, for MRSA and VRSA detection oxacillin-disk (1 μg) and vancomycin-disk (30 μg) were used respectively. Results revealed, among 17 S. aureus isolates, 7 (41%) were mostly isolated from patients with wound and burn infections. Isolates had high resistance rate against ampicillin (100%) and cefotaxime (81%), and lower resistance rate against several antibiotics. MRSA was 88% of total isolates, 93.3% of MRSA were multidrug resistance to 3-9 of antibiotics. Six isolates (40%) of MRSA were VRSA. It is concluded that antibiotics other than vancomycin can be used as anti-MRSA agents after a sensitivity test to prevent the prevalence of VRSA, the major cause of this chemotherapy problems maybe irrational and indiscriminate use of broad-spectrum antibiotics.展开更多

As an important component of ecotourism, it is imperative to investigate students' constructions of biodiversity-related concepts such as classification and variation in living things and ecosystem elements, identify...As an important component of ecotourism, it is imperative to investigate students' constructions of biodiversity-related concepts such as classification and variation in living things and ecosystem elements, identify the conceptual framework of biodiversity in relation to ecotourism, and determine its educational implications. The study population consisted of 13 students enrolled in ecotourism class section hotel AH (HAH) for first term, school year 2010-2011. Questionnaires were administered and focus-group discussions were conducted. Students' constructions of biodiversity concepts were determined using modified Conceptual Understanding of the Living Things and Classification (CULC) test. The conceptual framework of biodiversity in relation to ecotourism was investigated using a free word association test. Results were presented and discussed through qualifying themes in biology and biodiversity. Although biodiversity is a multidimensional concept, the questions focused only on ecosystem and species diversity. Analysis of the free association test demonstrated that participants have a very basic and incomplete conceptual understanding of biodiversity in the context of sustainable development and ecotourism. This study may lead to the review and improvement of ecotourism and ecology courses at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB).展开更多
Through analysis of the historical and present development of botanical gardens, both domestic and international, with particular focus on botanical garden practices within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the a...Through analysis of the historical and present development of botanical gardens, both domestic and international, with particular focus on botanical garden practices within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the authors propose that science-based botanical gardens (which differ from common public gardens), should be founded on plant diversity inventory and ex-situ conservation of wild plant species. Efforts should be directed to rarer species from biodiversity-rich areas and biodiversity hotspots, utilizing cutting-edge technologies to effectively preserve germplasm in living collections. Science-based botanical garden management should be directed by sound scientific evaluation of plant resources and guaranteed by innovative operational mechanisms. Science-based botanical gardens should also emphasize the establishment of identifiable and specialized living collections, research platforms and recruitment of qualified experts. In addition to curating living specimens, science-based botanical gardens should pursue research and development of new plant varieties or patents based on their plant collections, thus providing continual support to bio-industry.展开更多
