Prediction of the Hualian Earthquakes in Taiwan and an Extended Discussion on the Method of Commensurability 被引量:4

The method of commensurability was used by the authors to predict the great earthquake of magnitude 7.5 that occurred on March 31,2002 in Taiwan 70km away from Hualian. Analyzing the earthquakes of magnitude≥7.0 which occurred in the Hualian area of Taiwan within the 20th century, the authors discovered that the occurrences of the earthquakes are commensurable. The earthquakes of magnitude 7.6 which occurred in Hualian of Taiwan, on September 20th, 1999 and of magnitude 7.5 which occurred 70 km away from Hualian, on March 31th, 2002 appeared at the commensurable point of K=2 and the period times the golden section, respectively. An extended discussion is carried out on the method of commensurability and its implied physical significance, especially on the contribution of the commensurable periodic extension made by Prof. Weng Wenbo. 展开更多

To get the probability of long span bridges under the influence of external random factors, the Monte Carlo method using Latin hypercube sampling is applied. Combined with the condition assessment system on Runyang Suspension Bridge, which is the longest suspension bridge in China, the structural probabilities in normal and damaged situations are calculated with the external random factors considered including environmental temperature, wind load, load of vehicles, etc. The main assessment items contain the maximal vertical displacement of girder, the maximal stress of cables, the maximal horizontal displacement of towers etc. Finally, the probabilities and their cumulative distribution functions are provided. The analysis results can be plotted on line in a clear and vivid way, so the efficiency of assessment is increased and the decision-making of maintenance is more objective and accurate. 展开更多

Then, the generation characteristics of the random failure time are researched based on the replacement maintenance and the minima[ maintenance. Furthermore, by choosing the opportunistic replacement ages of each component as opti- mized variables, a simulation algorithm based on an opportunistic maintenance policy is designed to maximize the total availability. The target reliability indices of the foundation structures of sea-crossing bridges on the serviceability limit state (SLS) are different from those of common bridges due to their different surroundings. Consequently, three levels of the target reliability indices, which are 1.5, 2. 0 and 2. 3, respectively, for those structures on the SLS are suggested based on the Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS) model code, and a new method of calibrating factors of live loads, which is based on the contribution ratio of tensile stresses of reinforcing bars produced by various loads to the maximum crack width of concrete, is proposed. Finally, the calibration of the reliability-based factors of the frequent value and the quasi-permanent value of live loads is conducted by the Joint Committee (JC) method through an actual design, and the indices are proved to be reasonable and the new method is proved to be feasible. 展开更多

In order to decrease the calculation complexity of connectivity reliability of road networks, an improved recursive decomposition arithmetic is proposed. First, the basic theory of recursive decomposition arithmetic is reviewed. Then the characteristics of road networks, which are different from general networks, are analyzed. Under this condition, an improved recursive decomposition arithmetic is put forward which fits road networks better. Furthermore, detailed calculation steps are presented which are convenient for the computer, and the advantage of the approximate arithmetic is analyzed based on this improved arithmetic. This improved recursive decomposition arithmetic directly produces disjoint minipaths and avoids the non-polynomial increasing problems. And because the characteristics of road networks are considered, this arithmetic is greatly simplified. Finally, an example is given to prove its validity. 展开更多

[Objective] This study aimed to identify red pigment of Panax notoginseng fruits and explore the correlation between pigment content and total saponins of the fruits. [Method] The red pigment of Panax notoginseng fruits was preliminarily identi- fied with specific color reactions and UV-vis spectra, and the contents of the pigment and total saponins were determined via spectrophotometry. [Result] The red hues of the fruits were contributed by anthocyanins and/or the anthocyanidins. The contents of anthocyanins and total saponins of the fruits both decreased along with thinning of the red hues. The content difference of the anthocyanins in fruits with different red hues reached extremely significant level, but that of total saponins just reached significant level. [Conclusion] The red pigment of P. notoginseng fruits is anthocyanins which are of extremely significant positive correlation with total saponins in contents. 展开更多

A stochastic finite element computational methodology for probabilistic durability assessment of deteriorating reinforced concrete(RC) bridges by considering the time-and space-dependent variabilities is presented.First,finite element analysis with a smeared cracking approach is implemented.The time-dependent bond-slip relationship between steel and concrete,and the stress-strain relationship of corroded steel bars are considered.Secondly,a stochastic finite element-based computational framework for reliability assessment of deteriorating RC bridges is proposed.The spatial and temporal variability of several parameters affecting the reliability of RC bridges is considered.Based on the data reported by several researchers and from field investigations,the Monte Carlo simulation is used to account for the uncertainties in various parameters,including local and general corrosion in rebars,concrete cover depth,surface chloride concentration,chloride diffusion coefficient,and corrosion rate.Finally,the proposed probabilistic durability assessment approach and framework are applied to evaluate the time-dependent reliability of a girder of a RC bridge located on the Tianjin Binhai New Area in China. 展开更多

In the dynamic, complex and unbounded Grid systems, failures of Grid resources caused by malicious attacks and hardware failures are inevitable and have an adverse effect on the execution of tasks. To mitigate this problem, a makespan and reliability driven (MRD) sufferage scheduling algorithm is designed and implemented. Different from the traditional Grid scheduling algorithms, the algorithm addresses the makespan as well as reliability of tasks. The simulation experimental results show that the MRD sufferage scheduling algorithm can increase reliability of tasks and can trade off reliability against makespan of tasks by adjusting the weighting parameter in its cost function. AIM: To determine the effect of Prepacol, a combination of sodium phosphate and bisacodyl, on transit and quality of capsule endoscopy (CE). METHODS: Fivety two consecutive patients were included in this prospective study. CE was performed following a 12 h fasting period. Twenty six patients were randomized for additional preparation with Prepacol. The quality of CE was assessed separately for the proximal and the distal small bowel by 3 experienced endoscopists on the basis of a graduation which was initially developed with 20 previous CE. RESULTS: Preparation with Prepacol accelerated small bowel transit time (262 ± 55 rain vs 287 ± 97 min), but had no effect on the quality of CE. Visibility was significantly reduced in the distal compared to the proximal small bowel. CONCLUSION: The significantly reduced visibility of CE in the distal small bowel allocates the need for a good preparation. Since Prepacol has no beneficial effect on CE the modality of preparation and the ideal time of application remains unclear. Further standardized examinations are necessary to identify sufficient preparation procedures and to determine the impact of the volume of the preparation solution. 展开更多

Simulation results agree with the experimental observations. It is demonstrated that the damaged plasticity model for concrete in the finite element software ABAQUS can predict dynamic responses and typical flexure, flexure-shear and direct shear failure modes of the blast-loaded RC structures. 展开更多

Dynamic characteristics of UV enhanced gas–solid PVC chlorination process were revealed by a UV–Vis spectral online analysis method. Experimental results showed an instantaneous increase of the chlorination rate as soon as UV light was affiliated, which demonstrated the intensified effect of UV radiation on PVC chlorination directly.Different affiliation methods of UV light were then studied, proving that continuous UV radiation could enhance the chlorination process significantly while intermittent UV radiation was able to initiate the chlorination reaction once it was conducted. Besides, experiments were carried out to study the influences of parameters on the chlorination process such as UV wavelength, chlorination temperature, partial pressure of chlorine gas and PVC raw materials. Among all the parameters, chlorination temperature and partial pressure of chlorine gas were testified as two key factors to determine the chlorination performance. Thermal analysis of CPVC products showed that their corresponding properties such as the glass transition temperature(Tg) and the homogeneity of chlorine distribution in polymer phase were improved with the increase of chlorine content. 展开更多

This algorithm can schedule the on-board fault-tolerant tasks in real time. Due to the use of dependability cost, the overhead of scheduling the fault-tolerant tasks can be reduced. The mechanism of the high priority recovery will improve the response to recovery tasks. Comparison between OHAM and numerical method shows that OHAM is an exact and high efficient method for solving these kinds of problems. The results are presented to study the velocity and rotation profiles for different physical parameters such as Reynolds number, vortex viscosity parameter, spin gradient viscosity and microinertia density parameter. As an important outcome, the magnitude of the microrotation increases with an increase in the values of injection velocity while it decreases by increasing the values of suction velocity. 展开更多

A novel method of matching stiffness and continuous variable damping of an ECAS(electronically controlled air suspension) based on LQG(linear quadratic Gaussian) control was proposed to simultaneously improve the road-friendliness and ride comfort of a two-axle school bus.Taking account of the suspension nonlinearities and target-height-dependent variation in suspension characteristics,a stiffness model of the ECAS mounted on the drive axle of the bus was developed based on thermodynamics and the key parameters were obtained through field tests.By determining the proper range of the target height for the ECAS of the fully-loaded bus based on the design requirements of vehicle body bounce frequency,the control algorithm of the target suspension height(i.e.,stiffness) was derived according to driving speed and road roughness.Taking account of the nonlinearities of a continuous variable semi-active damper,the damping force was obtained through the subtraction of the air spring force from the optimum integrated suspension force,which was calculated based on LQG control.Finally,a GA(genetic algorithm)-based matching method between stepped variable damping and stiffness was employed as a benchmark to evaluate the effectiveness of the LQG-based matching method.Simulation results indicate that compared with the GA-based matching method,both dynamic tire force and vehicle body vertical acceleration responses are markedly reduced around the vehicle body bounce frequency employing the LQG-based matching method,with peak values of the dynamic tire force PSD(power spectral density) decreased by 73.6%,60.8% and 71.9% in the three cases,and corresponding reduction are 71.3%,59.4% and 68.2% for the vehicle body vertical acceleration.A strong robustness to variation of driving speed and road roughness is also observed for the LQG-based matching method. 展开更多

Due to the influence of joint fissure, mining intensity, designed slope angle, underground water and rainfall, the failure process of mine slope project is extremely complicated. The current safety factor calculation method has certain limitations, and it would be difficult to obtain the reliability index when the performance function of reliability analysis is implicit or has high order terms. Therefore, with the help of the logistic equation of chaos theory, a new algorithm of mine slope reliability based on limiting state hyper-plane is proposed. It is shown that by using this new reliability algorithm the calculation of partial derivative of performance function is avoided, and it has the advantages of being simple and easy to program. The new algorithm is suitable for calculating the reliability index of complex performance function containing high order terms. Furthermore, the limiting state hyper-plane models of both simplified Bishop's and Janbu's method adaptive to slope project are obtained, and have achieved satisfactory effect in the study of mine slope stability in Dexing copper open pit. 展开更多

The double-phase-shift filtering method,which is based on the traditional purephase-shift filtering method,is a novel approach to harmonic elimination that can be applied to more complicated signals such as white noise and slip-sweep.Nonetheless,any type of phase-shift filtering method necessitates a relationship between the frequency of fundamental sweep and time,which may cost necessitate an enormous amount of human and physical resources to achieve inaccurate results with low efficiency.This paper combines deep learning with harmonic elimination to produce a double-phase-shift filtering method based on AR2UNet,a type of U-Net with attention gates structure and recurrent residual blocks for improving accuracy and function while simplifying computational complexity.The input of the AR2UNet structure in this paper is seismic data of slip-sweep signals in vibroseis,and the output is signal frequency variation with the time of the fundamental waves,which are required to eliminate the harmonic waves and adjacent signals using a double-phase-shift method to obtain the fundamental sweep.The training sets and test sets are formed by forward models,and a Log-Cosh loss function is used to monitor the process,during which the results of AR2U-Net and traditional U-Net are compared to demonstrate the eminent function of AR2UNet.Following that,the outcomes’Log-Cosh loss functions and accuracy are also compared to validate the conclusion.AR2U-Net,when applied to raw data and combined with the doublephase-shift method,tends to polish the filtering effects and is worth promoting. 展开更多

Results The concentrations of extracted protein by methods of Coca's solution, lysis buffer, and Trizol reagent were 0.63 g/L, 0.90 g/L, and 0.80 g/L, respectively. The 2-DE analysis results showed that some protein spots in low molecular weight (LMW) range could be detected with the Coca's solution method. With the lysis buffer of 2-DE method, more protein spots in LMW range could be detected, while the medium molecular weight (MMW) protein spots were absent. Several MMW protein spots (174-178 kD and 133 kD) and more LMW protein spots were detected withTrizol reagent method. Conclusions Among Coca's solution, lysis buffer of 2-DE, and Trizol reagent, the concentration of extracted protein of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus by lysis buffer of 2-DE is the highest. However, most protein components of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus purified mite bodies can be extracted by Trizol reagent, which may generally reflect the whole profile of Dermatophagoides pteronyssinus allergens. 展开更多
