A mathematical method for predicting the hydrodynamic characteristics of a VVP under unsteady conditions is presented based on the panel method. Mathematical models for evaluation based on potential flow theory and the Green theorem are also presented. The hydrodynamic characteristics are numerically predicted. To avoid gaps between panels, hyperboloidal quadrilateral panels were used. The pressure Kutta condition on the trailing edge of the VVP blade was satisfied by the Newton-Raphson iterative procedure. The influence coefficients of the panels were calculated by Morino's analytical formulations to improve numerical calculation speed, and the method developed by Yanagizawa was used to eliminate the point singularity on derivation calculus while determining the velocities on propeller surfaces. The calculation results show that it's best for the hydrodynamic characteristics of the VVP that pitch angle changes follow the sine rule.展开更多

This solution was purposefully applied to a waterfront gravity wall, which retains a submerged backfill with a drainage system along the backfill-structure interface. The wall was assumed to move towards the backfill to the passive failure state. And the theoretical derivation considered the pore pressures induced by the seepage, the excess pore pressures generated by the earthquake and the seismic inertial forces. Thereinto, the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressures were calculated by the analytical formulas, while the seismic forces were obtained by the pseudo-dynamic method. In the parametric study, the results indicate that the velocity of shear wave has a more prominent impact on the seismic passive earth thrust than that of primary wave. Both the horizontal and vertical seismic actions decrease the passive earth pressure, but the horizontal one affects the amplitude of the earth pressure coefficient more significantly. Moreover, the soil friction and the wall friction distinctly increase the seismic passive earth pressure just like the static situation. The comparison shows that the results are consistent with the previous work, which verifies its validity.展开更多

The surfaces of blades and hub were discreted by a number of hyperboloidal quadrilateral panels with constant source and doublet distribution. Each panel's comer coordinates were calculated by spline interpolation between the main parameter and the blade geometry of the propeller. The integral equation was derived using the Green Formula. The influence coefficient of the matrix was calculated by the Morino analytic formula. The tangential velocity distribution was calculated with the Yanagizawa method, and the pressure coefficient was calculated using the Bonuli equation. The pressure Kutta condition was satisfied at the trailing edge of the propeller blade using the Newton-Raphson iterative procedure, so as to make the pressure coefficients of the suction and pressure faces of the blade equal at the trailing edge. Calculated results for the propeller in steady inflow were taken as initialization values for the unsteady inflow calculation process. Calculations were carried out from the moment the propeller achieved steady rotation. At each time interval, a linear algebraic equation combined with Kutta condition was established on a key blade and solved numerically. Comparison between calculated results and experimental results indicates that this method is correct and effective.展开更多

So it is necessary and essential to analyze the unsteady hydrodynamic performance of propeller in waves. This paper is based on the numerical simulation and experimental research of hydrodynamics performance when the propeller is under wave conditions. Open-water propeller performance in calm water is calculated by commercial codes and the results are compared to experimental values to evaluate the accuracy of the numerical simulation method. The first-order Volume of Fluid(VOF) wave method in STAR CCM+ is utilized to simulate the three-dimensional numerical wave. According to the above prerequisite, the numerical calculation of hydrodynamic performance of the propeller under wave conditions is conducted, and the results reveal that both thrust and torque of the propeller under wave conditions reveal intense unsteady behavior. With the periodic variation of waves, ventilation, and even an effluent phenomenon appears on the propeller. Calculation results indicate, when ventilation or effluent appears, the numerical calculation model can capture the dynamic characteristics of the propeller accurately, thus providing a significant theory foundation forfurther studying the hydrodynamic performance of a propeller in waves.展开更多

The deflection and the soil pressure on the embedded cylinder were investigated by model experiment. When the inclined angle of cylinder is less than or equal to 0.25°, the effective anti-overturning ratio increases gradually and reaches the maximum. When the inclined angle of cylinder is more than 0.25°, the effective anti-overturning ratio decreases gradually. The control value of instability of the cylindrical structure approximates 0.2°. and the bearing stress at the back edge of the cylinder is equal to zero.展开更多

A new extended Petri net is defined based on qualitative mapping, which strengths the expressive ability of the feature of thinking and the mode of action of brain. A model of semantic network knowledge representation based on new Petri net is given. Semantic network knowledge has a more efficient representation and reasoning mechanism. This model not only can reflect the characteristics of associative memory in semantic network knowledge representation, but also can use Petri net to express the criterion changes and its change law of recognition judgment, especially the cognitive operation of thinking based on extraction and integration of sensory characteristics to well express the thinking transition course from quantitative change to qualitative change of human cognition.展开更多

In this paper parametric studies have been carried out to examine the geometric dependence of transient flow features in solid rockets with non-uniform ports. Numerical computations have been carried out in an inert simulator of solid propellant rocket motor with the aid of a standard k-ω turbulence model. It was seen that the damping of the temperature fluctuation is faster in solid rocket with convergent port than with divergent port geometry. We inferred that the damping of the flow fluctuations using the port geometry is a meaningful objective for the suppression and control of the instability and/or pressure/thrust oscillations during the starting transient of solid rockets.展开更多
