The gas-solids flow behavior was predicted by means of a hydrodynamic model of dense gas-solid flow in spouted beds. Constitutive equations describing the particle interactions and friction of particles and viscosity were incorporated into a hydrodynamic simulation computer program. The effect of operating conditions (inverted cone inclination and gas spouting velocity) on particle velocity and concentration in the three zones of spouted beds: spout, annulus and fountain were numerically studied. Both vertical and horizontal particle velocities increased with increasing spouting gas velocity in the spouted region. The diameter of the spout increases with decreasing inclination. As inclination is greater than 60°, there is a neck near the jet. 展开更多

Two-dimensional unsteady cocurrent upward gas-solid flows in the vertical channel are simulated and the mechanisms of particles accumulation are analyzed according to the simulation results. The gaseous turbulent flow is simulated using the large eddy simulation (LES) method and the solid phase is treated using the Lagrangian approach, and the motion of the gas and particles are coupled. The formation of clusters and the accumulation of particles near the wall in dense gas-solid flows are demonstrated even if the particle-particle collisions were ignored. It is found that a cluster grows up by capturing the particles in the dilute phase due to its lower vertical velocity. By this way the small size clusters can evolve to large-scale clusters. Due to the interaction of gas and particles, the large-scale vortices appear in the channel and the boundary layer separates from the wall, which results in very high particle concentration in the near wall region and a very large-scale cluster formed near the separation point. 展开更多

Systematic experimental work was conducted to investigate the solid acceleration length in a 16m long circulating fluidized bed riser with fluid cracking catalyst particles over a wide range of operating conditions. A more feasible method is proposed to determine the acceleration length from the measured axial profiles of pressure gradient (or apparent solid holdup). With this new method and large amount of experimental data, a clear picture on the variation of the acceleration length with both solid circulating rate and superficial gas velocity is obtained.It is found that the acceleration length increases generally with increasing solid flow rate and/or decreasing gas velocity. However, the trend in variation of the acceleration length with operating conditions are quite different in different operation ranges. Reasonable explanations are suggested for the observed variation patterns of acceleration length. 展开更多

This study investigates the heterogeneous structure and its influence on drag coefficient for concurrent-up gas-solid flow. The energy-minimization multi-scale (EMMS) model is modified to simulate the variation of structure parameters with solids concentration, showing the tendency for particles to aggregate to form clusters and for fluid to pass around clusters. The global drag coefficient is resolved into that for the dense phase, for the dilute phase and for the so-called inter-phase, all of which can be obtained from their respective phase-specific structure parameters. The computational results show that the drag coefficients of the different phases are quite different, and the global drag coefficient calculated from the EMMS approach is much lower than that from the correlation of Wen and Yu. The simulation results demonstrate that the EMMS approach can well describe the heterogeneous flow structure, and is very promising for incorporation into the two-fluid model or the discrete particle model as the closure law for drag coefficient. 展开更多

A numerical method was developed to directly simulate the compressible, particle-laden turbulent jets.The fourth order compact finite difference schemes were used to discretize the space derivatives. The Lagrangian method was adopted to simulate the particle motion based on one-way coupling. It is found that the turbulent intensity profiles attain self-similar status in the jet downstream regions. At the Stokes number of 1, particles are concentrated largely in the outer boundaries of the large-scale vortex structures with the most uneven distribution and the widest dispersion in the lateral direction. Particles at the much smaller Stokes numbers are distributed evenly in the flow field, and the lateral dispersion is also considerable. Distribution of particles at much larger Stokes numbers is more uniform and the lateral dispersion becomes small. In addition, the inflow conditions have different effects on the particle dispersion. The direct numerical simulation (DNS) results accord with the previous experiments and numerical studies. 展开更多

In the last several decades, circulating fluidized bed reactors have been studied in many aspects including hydrodynamics, heat and mass transfer and gas–solid two phase contacting. However, despite the abundance of review papers on hydrodynamics, there is no summary paper on gas–solid contact efficiency to date, especially on high density circulating fluidized beds(CFBs). This paper gives an introduction to, and a review of the measurement of contact efficiency in circulating fluidized bed riser. Firstly, the popular testing method of contact efficiency including the method of heating transfer experiment and hot model reaction are discussed, then previous published papers are reviewed based on the discussed methods. Some key results of the experimental work are described and discussed. Gas–solid contact efficiency is affected by the operating conditions as well as the particle size distribution. The result of the contact efficiency shows that the CFB riser is far away from an ideal plug flow reactor due to the characteristics of hydrodynamics in the riser. Lacunae in the available literature have been delineated and recommendations have been made for further work. 展开更多

The highly-efficient dry separation technique using a gas-solid fluidized bed is very beneficial for increasing coal grade and optimizing the utilization of coal resources.The size distribution of the solid medium(e.g.,magnetite powder) used in this technique is one of key factors that influences fluidization and separation performance.It is,therefore,urgent to prepare medium in a way that operates at low cost and high efficiency.Grinding experiments were performed using a planetary ball mill equipped with a frequency converter.The effect of fed mass,rotation frequency of the mill,grinding time and the ball-size ratio on grinding performance was investigated.The grinding parameters were optimized by numerical calculations using Artificial Neural Network(ANN) in Matlab.A regression equation for predicting the yield of the desired product(i.e.,0.3~0.15 mm magnetite powder) is proposed.The maximum yield of 0.3~0.15 mm particles was 47.24%.This lays a foundation for the industrial-scale production of the solid medium required for separation with a magnetite-powder fluidized bed. 展开更多

The effects of liquid viscosities, solid circulating rates, liquid and gas velocities and phase holdups on the axial dispersion coefficient, Dax, were investigated in a gas-liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed (GLSCFB).Liquid viscosity promotes the axial liquid backmixing when solid particles and gas bubbles are present. Increases in gas velocities and solid circulating rates lead to higher Dax. The effects of liquid velocity on Dax are associated with liquid viscosity. Compared with conventional expanded beds, the GLSCFBs hold less axial liquid dispersion,approaching ideal plug-flow reactors. 展开更多

By calculating and analyzing the state of gas and solid fluxion in absorber using three different methods of the feedstocks and reverts in recirculating fluidized bed, described the behavior of gas and solid through the gas-phase velocity, turbulence intensity, gas-solid sliding velocity, and density of particles. The results show that the feedstocks and reverts enters into absorption tower through two symmetrical feedings and are mixed with flue gas. Based on the respective analysis of each model and the com- parison analysis of the three models, this paper drew conclusions. The turbulence intensity of absorption tower is high, gas-solid sliding speed is big, and granule concentration near the axis is high, which has advantages for desulfurization and im- proving the utilization rate of absorbent. 展开更多

Gate valve has various placements in the practical usages.Due to the effect of gravity,particle trajectories and erosions are distinct between placements.Thus in this study,gas-solid flow properties and erosion in gate valve for horizontal placement and vertical placement are discussed and compared by using Euler-Lagrange simulation method.The structure of a gate valve and a simplified structure are investigated.The simulation procedure is validated in our published paper by comparing with the experiment data of a pipe and an elbow.The results show that for all investigated open degrees and Stokes numbers(St),there are little difference of gas flow properties and flow coefficients between two placements.It is also found that the trajectories of particles for two placements are mostly identical when St << 1,making the erosion independent of placement.With the increase of St,the distinction of trajectories between placements becomes more obvious,leading to an increasing difference of the erosion distributions.Besides,the total erosion ratio of surface T for horizontal placement is two orders of magnitudes larger than that for vertical placement when the particle diameter is 250 μm. 展开更多

Numerical simulations have been carried out to investigate the liquid atomization and spray process using the Discrete Phase Model of the commercial CFD code combined with the Wall-Film boundary conditions. The effects of spray parameters on droplets Santer mean diameter (SMD), droplet collision speed, the thickness of liquid-film, the surface temperature and its uniformity were analyzed in the present study. The simulation results and the experimental data obtained in the available literature agree within 13.8%, The computational results show that the spray pressure is the main factor to realize the atomization. Increasing the mass flux and the spray pressure, the droplet collision speed increases while the corresponding maximum film thickness on the heated surface declines. The surface temperature changes indistinctively with the increase of the spray distance, but the temperature distribution tends to be uniform. 展开更多

Experimental verification including the test of variation of separation efficiency and pressure loss with the first and secondary flow ratio show that this new type separator has higher and more stable separation efficiency in broad flow ratio range while the pressure loss is far below the conventional rotary cyclone separator and even comparable with that of simple cyclone separator. 展开更多

Numerical simulations are carried out for gas-solid fluidized bed of cork particles, using discrete element method. Results exhibit the existence of a so-called anti core-annular porosity profile with lower porosity in the core and higher porosity near the wall for non-slugging fluidization. The tendency to form this unfamiliar anti core-annular porosity profile is stronger when the solid flux is higher. There exist multiple inflection points in the simulated axial solid volume fraction profile for non-slugging fluidization. Results also show that the familiar core-annular porosity profile still appears for slugging fluidization. In addition, the classical choking phenomenon can be captured at the superficial gas velocity slightly lower than the correlated transport velocity. 展开更多
