Lett. 90 (2010) 54003]. We discuss the reason why the Gram Schmidt orthogonalization procedure is not needed in the construction of transformation matrix M; point out a reason why the Kataoka-Tsutahara model [Phys. Rev. E 69 (2004) 035701(R)] is only valid in subsonic flows. The yon Neumann stability analysis is performed. Secondly, we carry out a preliminary quantitative study on the Richtmyer- Meshkov instability using the proposed MRT LB model. When a shock wave travels from a light medium to a heavy one, the simulated growth rate is in qualitative agreement with the perturbation model by Zhang-Sohn. It is about half of the predicted value by the impulsive model and is closer to the experimental result. When the shock wave travels from a heavy medium to a light one, our simulation results are also consistent with physical analysis.展开更多

Employing the virtual power principle and strength reduction technique, the effects of dilatancy of materials, non-linear failure criterion, pore water pressure,surface loads and buried depth, on the stability of shallow tunnel were studied. In order to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the solutions in the present work agree well with the existing results when the non-associated flow rule is reduced to the associated flow rule and the non-linear failure criterion is degenerated to the linear failure criterion. Compared with dilatancy of materials, the non-linear failure criterion exerts greater impact on the stability of shallow tunnels. The safety factor of shallow tunnels decreases and the failure surface expands outward when the dilatancy coefficient decreases. While the increase of nonlinear coefficient, the pore water pressure coefficient, the surface load and the buried depth results in the small safety factor. Therefore, the dilatancy as well as non-linear failure criterion should be taken into account in the design of shallow tunnel supporting structure. The crossflow instability of a three-dimensional (3-D) boundary layer is an important factor which affects the transition over a swept-wing.In this report,the primary instability of the incompressible flow over a swep...The crossflow instability of a three-dimensional (3-D) boundary layer is an important factor which affects the transition over a swept-wing.In this report,the primary instability of the incompressible flow over a swept wing is investigated by solving nonlinear parabolized stability equations (NPSE).The Floquet theory is applied to study the dependence of the secondary and high-frequency instabilities on curvature,Reynolds number and angle of swept (AOS).The computational results show that the curvature in the present case has no significant effect on the secondary instabilities.It is generally believed that the secondary instability growth rate increases with the magnitude of the nonlinear mode of crossflow vortex.But,at a certain state,when the Reynolds number is 3.2 million,we find that the secondary instability growth rate becomes smaller even when the magnitude of the nonlinear mode of the crossflow vortex is larger.The effect of the angle of swept at 35,45 and 55 degrees,respectively,is also studied in the framework of the secondary linear stability theory.Larger angles of swept tend to decrease the spanwise spacing of the crossflow vortices,which correspondingly helps the stimulation of 'z' mode.展开更多
This paper focuses mainly on the stability analysis of two-lane traffic flow with lateral friction,which may be caused by irregular driving behavior or poorly visible road markings,and also attempts to reveal the form...This paper focuses mainly on the stability analysis of two-lane traffic flow with lateral friction,which may be caused by irregular driving behavior or poorly visible road markings,and also attempts to reveal the formation mechanism of traffic jams.Firstly,a two-lane optimal velocity(OV) model without control signals is proposed and its stability condition is obtained from the viewpoint of control theory.Then delayed-feedback control signals composed of distance headway information from both lanes are added to each vehicle and a vehicular control system is designed to suppress the traffic jams.Lane change behaviors are also incorporated into the two-lane OV model and the corresponding information about distance headway and feedback signals is revised.Finally,the results of numerical experiments are shown to verify that when the stability condition is not met,the position disturbances and resulting lane change behaviors do indeed deteriorate traffic performance and cause serious traffic jams.However,once the proper delayed-feedback control signals are implemented,the traffic jams can be suppressed efficiently.展开更多
