The as-cast ingot of equiatomic nickel-titanium shape memory alloy (NiTi SMA) was prepared by vacuum consumable arc melting. The tensile tests and the compressive tests with respect to as-cast NiTi SMA were performe...The as-cast ingot of equiatomic nickel-titanium shape memory alloy (NiTi SMA) was prepared by vacuum consumable arc melting. The tensile tests and the compressive tests with respect to as-cast NiTi SMA were performed to study its mechanical properties of fracture. The microanalysis of as-cast NiTi SMA as well as its fractured samples was performed so as to better understand microstructure evolution and fracture behavior of NiTi SMA. Under tensile loading, the as-cast NiTi SMA shows higher plasticity and is characterized by ductile fracture at 750℃, but it demonstrates poorer plasticity and is characterized by cleavage fracture as well as transcrystalline fracture at room temperature and -100 ℃. Under compressive loading at -100 ~C, the as-cast NiTi SMA is characterized by shear fracture where the normal to the shearing fracture surface inclines about 45° to the compressive axis, and belongs to cleavage fracture where the cracks exoand via transcrvstalline fracture.展开更多
Reactive lesions of bone and soft tissue can appear alarming on histologic examination because they are often cellular and have atypical cytologic features,such as distinct nucleoli,mild hyperchromasia,and mitotic act...Reactive lesions of bone and soft tissue can appear alarming on histologic examination because they are often cellular and have atypical cytologic features,such as distinct nucleoli,mild hyperchromasia,and mitotic activity.Reactive lesions of bone and periosteum also produce bone and cartilage matrix,resulting in confusion with osteosarcoma or chondrosarcoma.Careful attention to key cytomorphological features such as the pattern of bone formation,uniform appearance of cells,and absence of atypical mitoses should help identify the reactive nature of a lesion.Correlation with clinical and radiological findings is also imperative to avoid misclassification of the tumor because reactive lesions often arise at sites where osteosarcoma and chondrosarcoma are rare(eg,the hand)and lack aggressive radiological features.Here we present a case of exuberant callus formation after avulsion fracture of tibia in a three year-old Iranian girl which misdiagnosed as osteosarcoma.展开更多
Objective To investigate the effect of emodin on lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced corneal injury in rats. Methods Three parallel incisions on the central surface of corneal epithelium were made and LPS was applied...Objective To investigate the effect of emodin on lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-induced corneal injury in rats. Methods Three parallel incisions on the central surface of corneal epithelium were made and LPS was applied on them to induce corneal injury in Wistar rats. All rats were randomly divided into emodin group (n=40) and keratitis group (n=40). Rats in the emodin group received subconjunctival injection of emodin and rats in the keratitis group received its vehicle 30 minutes before LPS exposure. At different time points-1 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours after LPS exposure, the symptoms of all rats were observed and the severity of their ocular inflammation was examined with a slit lamp microscope, then 8 rats in each group were killed through cervical dislocation and their eyes were enucleated and prepared to observe pathological changes of corneal tissue under a light microscope. The activation of nuclear factor-loB (NF-κB) under different condi- tions was determined by Western blot. Immunocytochemistry staining with an antibody against intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) was performed to identify positive cells in corneal tissues. Results The model of acute keratitis was successfully established in Wistar rats. LPS could induce a typical corneal inflammatory response, such as hyperemia, corneal edema and opacity, which were observed in model rats. Compared with keratitis group, both ocular behaviors and damages of the corneal structure were improved in emodin group. Furthermore, the activation of NF-κB and the expression of ICAM-1 induced by LPS were markedly inhibited in emodin group. Conclusion Emodin can inhibit the activation of NF-κB and the expression of ICAM-I induced by LPS in corneas, protect against acute corneal injury, and improve symptoms in rats.展开更多
A novel method,i.e.multi-cyclic quenching and partitioning(M-Q-P)heat treatment,is used to tailor the content of retained austenite(RA)in commercial steels.For 35CrMnSi steel,5 times of Q-P heat treatment can increase...A novel method,i.e.multi-cyclic quenching and partitioning(M-Q-P)heat treatment,is used to tailor the content of retained austenite(RA)in commercial steels.For 35CrMnSi steel,5 times of Q-P heat treatment can increase the content of RA from 8vol.%to 17 vol.%.As a result,the ultimate elongation of the steel is improved from 17.4%after the typical Q-P heat treatment to 27.1%after 5 times of Q-P treatment.Meanwhile,the improved combination of strength and ductility for steels by typical Q-P heat treatment is retained by the multi-cyclic Q-P heat treatment.It is shown that the content of RA in some specific steels,and furthermore their mechanical properties,can be regulated through the M-Q-P.展开更多
