SiCf/C/TiAl composites were also prepared under the same processing condition for comparision. Both kinds of the composites were thermally exposed in vacuum at 800 and 900℃ for different durations in order to study thermal stability of the interfacial zone. With the aids of scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), the interracial microstructures of the composites were investigated. The results reveal that, although adding the Mo coating, the interfacial reaction product of the SiCf/C/Mo/TiAl composite is the same with that of the SiCf/C/TiA1 composite, which is TiC/Ti2AlC between the coating and the matrix. However, C/Mo duplex coating is more efficient in hindering interfacial reaction than C single coating at 900 ℃ and below. In addition, a new layer of interfacial reaction product was found between Ti2AlC and the matrix after 900 ℃, 200 h thermal exposure, which is rich in V and close to the chemical composition of B2 phase.展开更多

The samples wrapped in graphite powder were placed in sealed quartz tubes, followed by solid carburization at 1227 K for 24 h. Microstructure and phase analysis indicated that TiC reinforcements and Ti-C solid solutions were introduced after solid carburization. Moreover, the volume fraction of equiaxedα-Ti phase in diffusion layer decreased obviously with increasing sample depth. Hardness testing results indicated that both the carburized surfaces performed significant improvement of about 100% in micro-hardness compared with untreated materials. The variation of carbon contents with increasing sample depth resulted in a hardened layer of 300 μm in the carburized samples. Meanwhile, slight influence on the internal microstructure and hardness indicated that solid carburization was an effective method in strengthening the surface of titanium alloy and titanium matrix composite.展开更多

The effect of the sintering temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites was investigated. The results indicate that the aspect ratio of the in situ synthesized TiB whiskers in Ti alloy matrix decreases rapidly with an increase in sintering temperature. However, both the relative density of the sintered specimens and the volume content of TiB whiskers in composites increase with increasing sintering temperature. Thus, the bending strength of the composites synthesized using SPS process increases slowly with increasing the sintering temperature from 850 to 1150 °C. The damping properties of BaTiO3 ceramic, Al matrix and BaTiO3/Al composites were examined by dynamic mechanical analysis in the temperature range from 273 K to 573 K. The results show that although BaTiO3 exhibits high damping (tan δ=0.12) below 400 K, the damping capacity of 10%BaTiO3/Al (mass fraction) composites below 400 K is not increased as compared to the Al matrix. On the other hand, the damping capacity above 450 K is greatly enhanced due to the motion of dislocations at the interfaces between ceramic particles and Al matrix. The failure of exerting the intrinsic damping of BaTiO3 particles in the composites is attributed to the poor interface bonding between the particles and the matrix. The tensile strength of the composite is 42% higher than that of the Al matrix, which indicates the possibility of obtaining high strength and high damping composites via interface improvement and the addition of high volume fraction of large grain BaTiO3 particles.展开更多

The electrochemical properties and synergetic effect of the composite alloy electrode were systematically investigated by using X-ray diffractometry, field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectrometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and galvanostatic charge/discharge test. It is found that the main phase of the composite alloy is composed of V-based solid solution phase with a BCC structure and C14 Laves phase with hexagonal structure, while the secondary phase is formed in the composite alloy. The comprehensive electrochemical properties of the composite alloy electrode are significantly improved. The activation cycle number, the maximum discharge capacity and the low temperature dischargeability of the composite alloy are 5 cycles, 362.5 mA-h/g and 65.84% at 233 K, respectively. It is suggested that distinct synergetic effect occurs in the activation process, composite process, cyclic process and discharge process at a low or high temperature under different current densities, in the charge–transfer resistance and exchange current density.展开更多

The results show that the microstructure of the fabricated composite consists of dispersion of hollow cenosphere particles in a-Ti matrix. The average pore diameter varies from 50 to 150 μm. The presence of porosities is attributed to the damage of cenosphere particles due to the application of load during compaction as well as to the hollow nature of cenospheres. A detailed X-ray diffraction profile of the composites shows the presence of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and α-Ti. The average microhardness of the composite (matrix) varies from HV 1100 to HV 1800 as compared with HV 240 of the as-received substrate. Wear studies show a significant enhancement in wear resistance against hardened steel ball and WC ball compared with that of commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The wear mechanism was established and presented in detail. The corrosion behavior of the composites in 3.56% NaCl (mass fraction) solution shows that corrosion potential (φcorr) shifts towards nobler direction with improvement in pitting corrosion resistance. However, corrosion rate of the cenosphere dispersed Ti matrix composite increases compared with that of the commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy.展开更多

Polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tools with different grain sizes and geometries, and carbide tools with and without coatings were used in the experiments. Milling forces, milling temperatures, tool lifetimes, tool wear, and machined surface integrities were investigated. The PCD tool required a primary cutting force 15 % smaller than that of the carbide tool, while the uncoated carbide tool required a primary cutting force 10% higher than that of the TiA1N-eoated tool. A cutting force of 300 N per millimeter of the cutting edge (300 N/mm) was measured. This caused excessive tool chipping. The cutting temperature of the PCD tool was 20%-30% lower than that of the carbide tool, while that of the TiA1N-coated tool was 12% lower than that of the uncoated carbide tool. The cutting temperatures produced when using water-based cooling and minimal quantity lubrication (MQL) were reduced by 100 ~C and 200 ~C, compared with those recorded with dry cutting, respectively. In general, the PCD tool lifetimes were 2--3 times longer than the carbide tool lifetimes. The roughness Ra of the machined surface was less than 0.6μm, and the depth of the machined surface hardened layer was in the range of 0.15-0.25 mm for all of the PCD tools before a flank wear land of 0.2 mm was reached. The PCD tool with a 0.8 mm tool nose radius, 0% rake angle, 10% flank angle, and grain size of (30+2) μm exhibited the best cutting performance. For this specific tool, a lifetime of 16 rain can be expected.展开更多

The composite was produced using conventional stir casting method and coatings were laid using an indigenously-developed friction surfacing machine. The rotational speed of the mechtrode was varied. The microstructure of the composite coating was observed using conventional and advanced microscopic techniques. The sliding wear behavior was evaluated using a pin-on-disc apparatus. The coating geometry(thickness and width) increased with increased rotational speed. The interface was straight without thick intermetallic layer. Homogenous distribution of nano B4C particles and extremely fine grains was observed in the composite coating. The interfacial bonding between the aluminum matrix and B4C particles was excellent. The composite coating improved the wear resistance of the titanium alloy substrate due to the reduction in effective contact area, lower coefficient of friction and excellent interfacial bonding.展开更多

文摘Hydrogen storage composite alloy Ti0.10Zr0.15V0.35Cr0.10Ni0.30–10% LaNi3 was prepared by two-step arc-melting to improve the electro-catalytic activity and the kinetic performance of Ti-V-based solid solution alloy. It is suggested that distinct synergetic effect occurs in the activation process, composite process, cyclic process and discharge process at a low or high temperature under different current densities, in the charge–transfer resistance and exchange current density.

文摘To avoid high crack sensitivity of TiB-Ti composite coating during laser cladding process,network-like structure composite coating was fabricated with laser in-situ technique on titanium alloy using 5 μm TiB2 powder as the cladding material. The microstructure, phase structure and properties of the coatings were analyzed by SEM,XRD,EPMA,TEM,hardness tester and fretting wear meter. It was observed that the outer ring of the network-like structure was mainly TiB strengthening phase, while the inner ring was α-Ti grain, and the interface between TiB and Ti matrix was very clean and had a consistent orientation relationship. The hardness of the cladding layer with network-like structure gradually decreased from the surface toward the interface, but the average hardness was nearly two times that of the substrate. In the fretting wear test,it was found that the wear resistance of the cladding layer with network-like structure was larger than that of the substrate under low load(40 N).The results revealed that the hardness and fretting wear resistance of the titanium-based composite coating could be improved by the introduction of network-like structure.

文摘In order to elucidate the microstructure evolution and silicide precipitation behavior during high-temperature deformation,TiB reinforced titanium matrix composites were subjected to isothermal hot compression at 950℃,strain rate of 0.05 s^(−1) and employing different strains of 0.04,0.40,0.70 and 1.00.The results show that with the increase of strain,a decrease in the content, dynamic recrystallization of theαphase and the vertical distribution of TiB along the compression axis lead to stress stability.Meantime, continuous dynamic recrystallization reduces the orientation difference of the primaryαphase, which weakens the texture strength of the matrix. The recrystallization mechanisms are strain-induced grain boundary migration and particle stimulated nucleation by TiB.The silicide of Ti_(6)Si_(3) is mainly distributed at the interface of TiB andαphase. The precipitation of silicide is affected by element diffusion, and TiB whisker accelerates the precipitation behavior of silicide by hindering the movement of dislocations and providing nucleation particles.

文摘This work focused on the influence of TiC reinforcing particles on the tribological properties of titanium matrix composites(TMCs)with open porosity, processed by spark plasma sintering(SPS).Materials composed of an equimolar mixture of Ti and TiH2 with 0,3,10 and 30 vol.% of TiC were sintered at 850 ℃.Nanoindentation and wear tests were carried out to assess the nanohardness and the wear resistance in a tribometer with a reciprocating sliding ball-on-flat configuration. Results showed a nanohardness increment from 5 to 14 GPa with increasing TiC content. The coefficient of friction(CoF)showed a minimum of 0.2 for 10% TiC grade, which also showed the lowest wear rate. For the low TiC content sample, adhesive wear with severe plastic deformation was identified.Meanwhile, medium content TiC sample showed a mechanical mixed layer(MML),whereas high TiC content composite showed abrasive as the main wear mechanism. In conclusion, the wear mechanisms,CoFs and wear volume changed with TiC content.

文摘The cenosphere dispersed Ti matrix composite was fabricated by powder metallurgy route, and its wear and corrosion behaviors were investigated. However, corrosion rate of the cenosphere dispersed Ti matrix composite increases compared with that of the commercially available Ti-6Al-4V alloy.

文摘The milling machinabilities of titanium matrix composites were comprehensively evaluated to provide a theoretical basis for cutting parameter determination. For this specific tool, a lifetime of 16 rain can be expected.

文摘This work is focused on developing AA2124/4 wt.%B4 C nano-composite coatings on Ti-6 A1-4 V using friction surfacing to improve the wear resistance. The composite coating improved the wear resistance of the titanium alloy substrate due to the reduction in effective contact area, lower coefficient of friction and excellent interfacial bonding.

文摘In this paper, the 2.6 vol%TiBw/Ti6Al4V composites with network architecture were fabricated by hot press sintering(HPS)at 1100℃ for 1 h,and the quantitative relationships between phases and heat treatment temperatures were established. The results showed that the volume fraction phases changed linearly with a range of solution temperature(930-1010℃)and aging temperature(400-600℃).Moreover,the composites with equiaxed microstructure were obtained due to the static recrystallization after solution treated at 950℃ for 1 h and aging treated at 600℃ for 12 h.The ultimate high temperature tensile strengths were 772,658,392 and 182 MPa,and the elongations were 9.1%,12.5%,28.6%and 35.3%at 400,500,600 and 700℃,respectively.In addition, fractured morphology analysis indicated the excellent strengthening effect of TiBw at a temperature below 600℃.However,the strengthening effect was significantly reduced due to the debonding of matrix and TiBw at 700℃ and caused the cracks to propagate along the grain boundary.

文摘A novel architectural Ti composite composed of network-woven structured TiB nanowires in a core-shell structured Ti matrix was fabricated to improve the strength of Ti matrix composites(TMCs),where the shell consists of rich N solute atoms while the core is deficient of N solute atoms through spark plasma sintering of powder mixtures of Ti powder and BN nano-powder.The phase composition, morphology, element distribution, and mechanical properties of prepared samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning electron microscope(SEM),electron probe microanalyzer(EPMA),and electronic universal material testing machine. The results indicate that the TMCs with designed architectures have been successfully achieved, and the as-prepared Ti-2BN(wt.%)composite exhibits an ultimate compressive strength of~1.8 GPa with a strain-to-fracture of~9%,while the Ti-1BN(wt.%)attains an ultimate compressive strength of~1.6 GPa and a strain-to-fracture of~20%.Moreover,the roles of the hybrid reinforcement structures in strengthening the Ti composites were discussed.
