Purified Salvia miltiorrhiza extract (PSME) had been shown to have hypolipidemic effect in animal experiments. This study aimed to evaluate its lipids modulating effects in hyperlipidemic patients. Methods In this single-blind, placebo cantrolled study, lipid profiles of 80 hyperlipidemic patients were checked at same conditions. They were divided into two equal groups randomly (each composing of 40 patients). They were given PSME tablet (800 mg) three times per day, or placebo tablet. All patients were put on NCEP type II diet and six weeks later, lipid profiles were checked. Results In PSME group, total cholesterol decreased by 27.32 mg/dl (12.3% reduction), LDL-cholesterol decreased by 23.13 mg/dl (16.8% reduction) and HDL-cholesterol increased by 9.06 mg/dl (11.1%), all were statistically significant. Although triglyceride dropped by 12.12 mg/dl (5.1%) but this was not significant statistically (P=0.34). There were no significant changes oflipids levels in the placebo group. Conclusions PSME has significant favorable effect on total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, and HDL-cholesterol and may be a potential agent for the treatment ofatherogenic dyslipidemia.展开更多

METHODS: Forty-two primary hyperlipidemia patients we...OBJECTIVE: To observe the influence of moxibustion temperature on blood lipids, endothelin-1(ET-1), nitric oxide(NO), and ET-1/NO in hyperlipidemia patients. METHODS: Forty-two primary hyperlipidemia patients were randomly divided into two groups of 21 and treated with moxibustion at different temperatures. Moxibustion was performed with the moxa roll 2.5-3.0 cm from the skin in the treatment group and 4 cm in the control group, 10 min per point, once every other day. Skin temperature was precisely measured with a thermometer during moxibustion. After a 12-week treatment, seven measurements of blood lipids, ET-1, and NO were recorded. RESULTS: Total cholesterol and triglyceride, were lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P0.05). Serum ET-1 and ET-1/NO was obvi-ously lowered in the treatment group(P0.001). Moxibustion regulated NO and ET-1/NO in the treatment group much better than in the control group. CONCLUSION: Moxibustion can regulate blood lipids and clear blood vessels. Moxibustion at 45℃has a better effect than moxibustion at 38℃ on regulating blood lipids and protecting vascular endothelial function, indicating that suitable temperature influences the curative effect of moxibustion.展开更多

Methods: 77 hyperlipemia patients are selected and randomly divided into two groups. 37 cases in the treatment group received the treatment of antihyperlipidemic decoction, and 40 cases in the control group received western medicine, zhinbiticose. The course of treatment for both groups was 8 weeks. Results: The difference in total effective rate between the two groups was significant (P〈0.05). Conclusion: Antihyperlipidemic decoction has a better therapeutic effect for hvoerlioemia, with a lower recurrence rate and less side effect.展开更多
