Active tectonics in an area includes ongoing or recent geologic events. This paper investigates the tectonic influence on the subsidence, uplift and tilt of western Saurashtra through morphotectonic analysis of ten watersheds along with characteristics of relief and drainage orientation.Watersheds 7-9 to the north(N)are tectonically active, which can be linked with the North Kathiawar Fault System(NKFS)and followed by watersheds 6,10,1,4 and 5.Stream-length gradient index and sinuosity index indicate the effect of tectonic events along the master streams in watersheds 6-9.Higher R^(2)values of the linear curve fit for watershed 7 indicate its master stream is much more tectonically active than the others. The R^(2)curve fitting model and earthquake magnitude/depth analysis confirm the region to be active. The reactivation of the NKFS most likely led to the vertical movement of western Saurashtra. 展开更多

Phosphate removal is crucial for eutrophication control and water quality improvement.Electro-assisted adsorption,an eco-friendly elec-trosorption process, exhibited a promising potential for wastewater treatment. However, there are few works focused on phosphate electro-sorption,and reported electrodes cannot attach satisfactory removal capacities and rates.Herein,electro-assisted adsorption of phosphate via in-situ construction of La active centers on hierarchically porous carbon(LaPC)has been originally demonstrated. The resulted LaPC composite not only possessed a hierarchically porous structure with uniformly dispersed La active sites, but also provided good conductivity for interfacial electron transfer. The LaPC electrode achieved an ultrahigh phosphate electrosorption capability of 462.01 mg g^(-1) at 1 V,outperforming most existing electrodes. The superior phosphate removal performance originates from abundant active centers formed by the coupling of electricfield and capture sites.Besides, the stability and selectivity toward phosphate capture were maintained well even under comprehensive conditions. Moreover,a series of kinetics and isotherms models were employed to validate the electrosorption process. This work demonstrates a deep understanding and promotes a new level of phosphate electrosorption. 展开更多

The Sichuan-Tibet transportation corridor is prone to numerous active faults and frequent strong earthquakes. While extensive studies have individually explored the effect of active faults and strong earthquakes on different engineering structures, their combined effect remains unclear. This research employed multiple physical model tests to investigate the dynamic response of various engineering structures, including tunnels, bridges, and embankments, under the simultaneous influence of cumulative earthquakes and stick-slip misalignment of an active fault. The prototype selected for this study was the Kanding No.2 tunnel, which crosses the Yunongxi fault zone within the Sichuan-Tibet transportation corridor. The results demonstrated that the tunnel, bridge, and embankment exhibited amplification in response to the input seismic wave, with the amplification effect gradually decreasing as the input peak ground acceleration(PGA)increased. The PGAs of different engineering structures were weakened by the fault rupture zone.Nevertheless, the misalignment of the active fault may decrease the overall stiffness of the engineering structure, leading to more severe damage, with a small contribution from seismic vibration.Additionally, the seismic vibration effect might be enlarged with the height of the engineering structure, and the tunnel is supposed to have a smaller PGA and lower dynamic earth pressure compared to bridges and embankments in strong earthquake zones crossing active faults. The findings contribute valuable insights for evaluating the dynamic response of various engineering structures crossing an active fault and provide an experimental reference for secure engineering design in the challenging conditions of the Sichuan-Tibet transportation corridor. 展开更多

This study presents a neural network-based model for predicting linear quadratic regulator(LQR)weighting matrices for achieving a target response reduction.Based on the expected weighting matrices, the LQR algorithm is used to determine the various responses of the structure. The responses are determined by numerically analyzing the governing equation of motion using the state-space approach. For training a neural network, four input parameters are considered:the time history of the ground motion, the percentage reduction in lateral displacement, lateral velocity, and lateral acceleration,Output parameters are LQR weighting matrices. To study the effectiveness of an LQR-based neural network(LQRNN),the actual percentage reduction in the responses obtained from using LQRNN is compared with the target percentage reductions.Furthermore,to investigate the efficacy of an active control system using LQRNN,the controlled responses of a system are compared to the corresponding uncontrolled responses. The trained neural network effectively predicts weighting parameters that can provide a percentage reduction in displacement, velocity, and acceleration close to the target percentage reduction.Based on the simulation study,it can be concluded that significant response reductions are observed in the active-controlled system using LQRNN.Moreover, the LQRNN algorithm can replace conventional LQR control with the use of an active control system. 展开更多

Offboard active decoys(OADs)can effectively jam monopulse radars. However, for missiles approaching from a particular direction and distance, the OAD should be placed at a specific location, posing high requirements for timing and deployment. To improve the response speed and jamming effect,a cluster of OADs based on an unmanned surface vehicle(USV)is proposed. The formation of the cluster determines the effectiveness of jamming.First, based on the mechanism of OAD jamming, critical conditions are identified, and a method for assessing the jamming effect is proposed. Then, for the optimization of the cluster formation,a mathematical model is built, and a multi-tribe adaptive particle swarm optimization algorithm based on mutation strategy and Metropolis criterion(3M-APSO)is designed. Finally, the formation optimization problem is solved and analyzed using the 3M-APSO algorithm under specific scenarios. The results show that the improved algorithm has a faster convergence rate and superior performance as compared to the standard Adaptive-PSO algorithm.Compared with a single OAD,the optimal formation of USV-OAD cluster effectively fills the blind area and maximizes the use of jamming resources. 展开更多

The development of earth-abundant electrocatalysts with high performance for electrochemical CO_(2)reduction(ECR)is of great significance.Cu-based catalysts have been widely investigated for ECR due to their unique ability to generate various carbonaceous products, but directing selectivity toward one certain product and identifying the real active sites during ECR are still full of challenge. Here, after the incorporation of CdO into CuO,the Cu_(0.5)Cd_(0.5)-O catalyst achieves a 10.3-fold enhancement for CO selectivity in comparison with CuO,and a CO faradic efficiency nearly 90%with a current density around20 mA cm^(-2)could maintain at least 60 h.Interestingly,a wide CO/H_(2)ratio(0.07-10)is reached on Cu_(x)Cd_(1-x)-O catalysts by varying the Cu/Cd ratio, demonstrating the potential of syngas production using such catalysts. The results of ex situ XRD,XPS,and in situ Raman reveal that the real active sites of Cu_(0.5)Cd_(0.5)-O catalysts for CO production during ECR reaction are the reconstructed mixed phases of CuCd alloy and CdCO_(3).In situ FTIR and theoretical calculations further implicate the presence of Cd related species promotes the CO desorption and inhibits the H_(2)evolution,thus leading to an enhanced CO generation. 展开更多

High-static-low-dynamic-stiffness(HSLDS)vibration isolators with buckling beams have been widely used to isolate external vibrations. An active adjustable device composed of proportion integration(PI)active controllers and piezoelectric actuators is proposed for improving the negative stiffness stroke of buckling beams.A nonlinear output frequency response function is used to analyze the effect of the vibration reduction. The prototype of the active HSLDS device is built, and the verification experiment is conducted. The results show that compared with the traditional HSLDS vibration isolator, the active HSLDS device can broaden the isolation frequency bandwidth, and effectively reduce the resonant amplitude by adjusting the active control parameters. The maximum vibration reduction rate of the active HSLDS vibration isolator can attain 89.9%,and the resonant frequency can be reduced from 31.08 Hz to 13.28 Hz.Therefore, this paper devotes to providing a new design scheme for enhanced HSLDS vibration isolators. 展开更多

The insufficient active sites and slow interfacial charge trans-fer of photocatalysts restrict the efficiency of CO_(2) photoreduction. The synchronized modulation of the above key issues is demanding and chal-lenging.Herein,strain-induced strategy is developed to construct the Bi–O-bonded interface in Cu porphyrin-based monoatomic layer(PML-Cu)and Bi_(12)O_(17)Br_(2)(BOB),which triggers the surface interface dual polarization of PML-Cu/BOB(PBOB).In this multi-step polarization, the built-in electric field formed between the interfaces induces the electron transfer from con-duction band(CB)of BOB to CB of PML-Cu and suppresses its reverse migration. Moreover, the surface polarization of PML-Cu further promotes the electron converge in Cu atoms. The introduction of PML-Cu endows a high density of dispersed Cu active sites on the surface of PBOB,significantly promoting the adsorption and activation of CO_(2) and CO desorption. The conversion rate of CO_(2) photoreduction to CO for PBOB can reach 584.3μmol g-1,which is 7.83 times higher than BOB and 20.01 times than PML-Cu.This work offers valuable insights into multi-step polarization regulation and active site design for catalysts. 展开更多

Active Magnetic Bearing(AMB) is a kind of electromagnetic support that makes the rotor movement frictionless and can suppress rotor vibration by controlling the magnetic force. The most common approach to restrain the rotor vibration in AMBs is to adopt a notch filter or adaptive filter in the AMB controller. However, these methods cannot obtain the precise amplitude and phase of the compensation current. Thus, they are not so effective in terms of suppressing the vibrations of the fundamental and other harmonic orders over the whole speed range. To improve the vibration suppression performance of AMBs,an adaptive filter based on Least Mean Square(LMS) is applied to extract the vibration signals from the rotor displacement signal. An Iterative Search Algorithm(ISA) is proposed in this paper to obtain the corresponding relationship between the compensation current and vibration signals. The ISA is responsible for searching the compensating amplitude and shifting phase online for the LMS filter, enabling the AMB controller to generate the corresponding compensation force for vibration suppression. The results of ISA are recorded to suppress vibration using the Look-Up Table(LUT) in variable speed range. Comprehensive simulations and experimental validations are carried out in fixed and variable speed range, and the results demonstrate that by employing the ISA, vibrations of the fundamental and other harmonic orders are suppressed effectively. 展开更多

With the increasing prevalence of high-order systems in engineering applications, these systems often exhibitsignificant disturbances and can be challenging to model accurately. As a result, the active disturbance rejectioncontroller (ADRC) has been widely applied in various fields. However, in controlling plant protection unmannedaerial vehicles (UAVs), which are typically large and subject to significant disturbances, load disturbances andthe possibility of multiple actuator faults during pesticide spraying pose significant challenges. To address theseissues, this paper proposes a novel fault-tolerant control method that combines a radial basis function neuralnetwork (RBFNN) with a second-order ADRC and leverages a fractional gradient descent (FGD) algorithm. We integrate the plant protection UAV model’s uncertain parameters, load disturbance parameters, and actuatorfault parameters and utilize the RBFNN for system parameter identification. The resulting ADRC exhibits loaddisturbance suppression and fault tolerance capabilities, and our proposed active fault-tolerant control law hasLyapunov stability implications. Experimental results obtained using a multi-rotor fault-tolerant test platformdemonstrate that the proposed method outperforms other control strategies regarding load disturbance suppressionand fault-tolerant performance. 展开更多

This paper addresses the sampled-data multi-objective active suspension control problem for an in-wheel motor driven electric vehicle subject to stochastic sampling periods and asynchronous premise variables. The focus is placed on the scenario that the dynamical state of the half-vehicle active suspension system is transmitted over an in-vehicle controller area network that only permits the transmission of sampled data packets. For this purpose,a stochastic sampling mechanism is developed such that the sampling periods can randomly switch among different values with certain mathematical probabilities. Then,an asynchronous fuzzy sampled-data controller, featuring distinct premise variables from the active suspension system,is constructed to eliminate the stringent requirement that the sampled-data controller has to share the same grades of membership.Furthermore, novel criteria for both stability analysis and controller design are derived in order to guarantee that the resultant closed-loop active suspension system is stochastically stable with simultaneous𝐻2 and𝐻∞performance requirements. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed stochastic sampled-data multi-objective control method is verified via several numerical cases studies in both time domain and frequency domain under various road disturbance profiles. 展开更多

Older people are generally considered dependent on others as they grow older. The purpose of this article is to explore the entrepreneurship activities of Nepalese older adults. Data for this study were collected from the project Help Age International (HAI) implemented in Nepal. Qualitative data observations and interviews were used to collect data. The findings of this study show the formation of the Older People’s Association (OPA) has supported many older people to participate outside the home in various social activities. Moreover, regular deposits through OPAs offer little help. OPAs support older people in their need of financial support to implement minor entrepreneurship. Older people who received support were pleased and were actively involved in their activities and also regularly deposited money in them. Subsequently, older people’s participation in social activities has increased and also helped to lower elderly abuse, loneliness, and depression. Local governments should promote such activities which will help with healthy aging. 展开更多

Dehydrogenation is considered as one of the most important industrial applications for renewable energy.Cubic ceria-based catalysts are known to display promising dehydrogenation performances in this area.Large particle size(>20 nm)and less surface defects, however, hinder further application of ceria materials.Herein,an alternative strategy involving lactic acid(LA)assisted hydrothermal method was developed to synthesize active, selective and durable cubic ceria of<6 nm for dehydrogenation reactions.Detailed studies of growth mechanism revealed that, the carboxyl and hydroxyl groups in LA molecule synergistically manipulate the morphological evolution of ceria precursors.Carboxyl groups determine the cubic shape and particle size, while hydroxyl groups promote compositional transformation of ceria precursors into CeO_(2) phases. Moreover, enhanced oxygen vacancies(Vo)on the surface of CeO_(2) were obtained owing to continuous removal of O species under reductive atmosphere.Cubic CeO_(2) catalysts synthesized by the LA-assisted method, immobilized with bimetallic PtCo clusters, exhibit a record high activity(TOF:29,241 h^(-1))and Vo-dependent synergism for dehydrogenation of bio-derived polyols at 200℃.We also found that quenching Vo defects at air atmosphere causes activity loss of PtCo/CeO_(2) catalysts. To regenerate Vo defects,a simple strategy was developed by irradiating deactivated catalysts using hernia lamp. The outcome of this work will provide new insights into manufacturing durable catalyst materials for aqueous phase dehydrogenation applications. 展开更多

Today,it is difficult to further improve the dynamic performance of rail vehicles with conventional passive suspension. Also, simplified vehicle respectively running gear layouts that significantly could reduce vehicle weights are difficult to realize with modern requirements on passenger vibration comfort and wheel and rail wear.Active suspension is a powerful technology that can improve the vehicle dynamic performance and make simplified vehicle concepts possible. The KTH Railway group has, together with external partners, investigated active suspensions both numerically and experimentally for 15 years. The paper provides a summary of the activities and the most important findings. One major project carried out in close collaboration with the vehicle manufacturer Bombardier and the Swedish Transport Administration was the Green Train project, where a 2-car EMU test bench was used to demonstrate different active technologies. In ongoing projects,a concept of single axle-single suspension running gear is developed with active suspension both for comfort improvement and reduced wheel wear in curves. The results from on-track tests in the Green Train project were so good that the technology is now implemented in commercial trains and the simulation results for the single-axle running gear are very promising. 展开更多

Electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)is one of the most important reactions in electrochemical energy technologies such as fuel cells and metal–O2/air batteries, etc. However, the essential catalysts to overcome its slow reaction kinetic always undergo a complex dynamic evolution in the actual catalytic process, and the concomitant intermediates and catalytic products also occur continuous conversion and reconstruction. This makes them difficult to be accurately captured, making the identification of ORR active sites and the elucidation of ORR mechanisms difficult. Thus,it is necessary to use extensive in-situ characterization techniques to proceed the real-time monitoring of the catalyst structure and the evolution state of intermediates and products during ORR.This work reviews the major advances in the use of various in-situ techniques to characterize the catalytic processes of various catalysts.Specifically, the catalyst structure evolutions revealed directly by in-situ techniques are systematically summarized, such as phase, valence, electronic transfer, coordination, and spin states varies.In-situ revelation of intermediate adsorption/desorption behavior, and the real-time monitoring of the product nucleation, growth, and reconstruction evolution are equally emphasized in the discussion.Other interference factors,as well as in-situ signal assignment with the aid of theoretical calculations, are also covered. Finally, some major challenges and prospects of in-situ techniques for future catalysts research in the ORR process are proposed. 展开更多

The China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor plans to build a 200 k V/25 A acceleration grid power supply(AGPS)for the negative-ion-based neutral beam injector prototype system. The AGPS uses a rectifier-inverter-isolated step-up structure. There is a DC bus between the rectifier and the inverter. In order to limit DC bus voltage ripple and transient fluctuations,a large number of capacitors are used, which degrades the reliability of the power supply and occupies a large amount of space. This work finds that due to the difference in the turn-off time of the rectifier and the inverter, the capacitance mainly depends on the rectifier current when the inverter is turned off.On this basis,an active power filter(APF)scheme is proposed to absorb the current. To enhance the dynamic response ability of the APF,model predictive control is adopted. In this paper, the circuit structure of the APF is introduced, the prediction model is deduced, the corresponding control strategy and signal detection method are proposed, and the simulation and experimental results show that APF can track the transient current of the DC bus and reduce the voltage fluctuation significantly. 展开更多
