To improve the harmonic suppression ability of multi-pulse rectifier,a 12-pulse rectifier based on zigzag autotransformer by DC side active compensation strategy is proposed.By controlling the small capacity current i...To improve the harmonic suppression ability of multi-pulse rectifier,a 12-pulse rectifier based on zigzag autotransformer by DC side active compensation strategy is proposed.By controlling the small capacity current inverter to generate compensating currents and injecting the currents directly into the DC side of the system,the grid-side currents of the rectifier can be approximated to sine wave.Using zigzag autotransformer as phase-shifting transformer can block the zero sequence current components and reduce the equivalent capacity of the rectifying system.The study on harmonic distortion rate of grid-side currents with the variation of the load shows that the harmonic content of the compensated rectifier decreases significantly under various load conditions.The harmonic content of the grid-side currents of the proposed active injection rectifier is only 1.17%,and the equivalent capacity of the rectifier is calculated.The results show that the rectifier can not only suppress the harmonic currents,but also have a lower equivalent capacity.展开更多

The transformer chosen for study has a rating of 50 MVA, 635.1 kV, the magnetization characteristic of the autotransformer is modeled by a single-value two-term polynomial with q = 5, 7, 11. The core loss is modeled by a linear resistance and is considered a fix value for it. Simulation results are derived by using MATLAB software and nonlinear dynamics tool such as bifurcation and phase plan diagrams. It is shown settling down to the chaotic region is increased when degree of core nonlinearity is gone from 5 to 11.展开更多

This paper compares the 12-pulse rectifiers using the two transformers via calculating the input line current, load voltage, kVA ratings of the two autotransformer, kVA ratings of the auxiliary magnetic devices. From the viewpoint of power quality of AC mains and DC side, the two 12-pulse rectifiers are the same. The kVA rating of the IPR in the two 12-pulse rectifiers are equal, and the kVA rating of the ZSBT in the two 12-pulse rectifier are also equal to each other, under the same load power. However, the kVA of the deltaconnected autotransformer is less than that of the wyeconnected autotransformer under the same load power.Some experimental results are shown to validate the correctness of the theoretical analysis.展开更多

Besides that, the adequately designed converter retains the advantages of DC AUTO technology, namely reduced investment cost and transmission loss. To begin with, the topology and basic attributes of the un-interrupted DC AUTO are illustrated. Then the design goals and the corresponding design procedures are analyzed. Furthermore, an effective control system is proposed to enable the converter steady operation during both normal and faulted conditions. Finally, a 1000 MW ±320 kV/±640 kV test system is built on PSCAD/EMTDC platform to verify the technical feasibility of the proposed converter and the effectiveness of the control strategy.展开更多

To improve the accuracy of fault location system, several short-circuit tests need to be conducted before being brought into service in autotransformer (AT) feeding systems for high-speed railways in China. However,...To improve the accuracy of fault location system, several short-circuit tests need to be conducted before being brought into service in autotransformer (AT) feeding systems for high-speed railways in China. However, no systematic algorithm yet exists to evaluate the consistency of the current distribution of short-circuit tests. A methodology is proposed in this paper to address this problem. Based on Kirchhoff’s current law and the generalized method of symmetrical components, the current deviations of the AT feeding systems are analysed and then normalized with the short-circuit current as they vary greatly with systems and short-circuit sites. It is also found that the short-circuit current varies with the calculation methods, and its unbiased standard deviation also reflects the consistency of the short-circuit test. The mean and maximum of the current deviations, as well as the unbiased standard deviation of the short-circuit current, show the consistency of the short-circuit test from different aspects,although the last two items are highly relevant. Therefore, a unified evaluation index is defined as the sum of the three items, and then applied in two case studies to test its performance. The results show that, the proposed index canclearly distinguish the consistency of the short-circuit tests and may be used to sort the short-circuit tests for fault location systems. Besides, some short-circuit tests may have very poor consistency indices, and thus are not applicable to the tuning of fault location systems. In the authors’ opinion, the determination of the threshold of the proposed index needs further investigation.展开更多
