The reactions of tri-2-benzofuranylborane or aminoethyl di-2-thienylborinate and 2-thienylphenylborinate with dichlorocarbene generated in situ from chloroform under phase transfer conditions were explored as a new route for the preparation of heteroaromatic ketones. Effect of Boron Compounds on Properties of Chinese Fir Wood Treated with PMUF Resin 被引量:2

Plantation Chinese fir wood was modified by low molecular weight phenol melamine urea formaldehyde(PMUF)resin and boron compounds(BB)through a progressive gradual infiltration process.The results showed that the limiting oxygen index(LOI)values,density,dimensional stability and static flexural properties of the PMUF resin treated wood gradually improved with the increase of resin solid content.When boron compounds were additionally introduced into the PMUF resin,the density and the LOI values of the samples of compound modification increased,whereas the anti-swelling efficiency,the modulus of rupture and impact toughness decreased by more than 17.6%,10.1%and 42.9%,respectively.It was demonstrated by X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy that boron compounds could improve the crystallinity of resin modified samples and did not have a chemical reaction with resin or wood.Scanning electron microscope analysis indicated boron compounds made the microstructure of the resin polymers loose,influencing the mechanical properties and dimensional stability of resin modified wood. 展开更多

Boronic acid compounds with different substituted groups were handled to synthesize various ligands encoded as B1, B2, B3, B4, BS, B6, B7 and BS. B5 and B7 were tested for the cytotoxic activity against the prostate cancer cells and it was found that the cell viability of cancer cells was decreased while most of the healthy cells could still be viable. 5 μM solutions of B5 and B7 decreased the cell viability to 33% and 44%; whereas healthy cells were 71% and 95%, respectively, after treatment. Antimicrobial properties were explored against the bacterial and fungal microorganisms with B1, B5 and BZ The inhibition zones were evaluated for all boronic structures, and the growth inhibition zones were determined in a range of 7-13 mm diameter for different microorganism species. Staphylococcus aureus was the common micro- organism that three boronic compounds with imine ligands showed the activity. Antioxidant features of B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 and B8 were investigated by different processes such as Beta-carotene bleaching (BCB), 2,2-diphenyl picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2″-azino-bis( 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) and CUPric reducing antioxidant capacity (CLIPRAC) methods. Significant antioxidant activity was achieved by the phenyl boronic based ligands and these compounds demonstrated as much activity as standards (α-Toc and BHT). In addition, all structures were applied properly without any decomposition during the experiments. They were rather stable both in aqueous media and solid state. 展开更多

BNCT is finally becoming "a new option against cancer". The difficulties for its development progress of that firstly is to improve the performance of boron compounds, secondly, it is the requirements of quantification and accuracy upon radiation dosimetry evaluation in clinical trials. Furthermore, that is long anticipation on hospital base neutron sources. It includes dedicated new NCT reactor, accelerator based neutron sources, and isotope source facilities. In ad- dition to reactors, so far, the technology of other types of sources for clinical trials is not yet completely proven. The In- Hospital Neutron lrradiator specially designed for NCT, based on the MNSR successfully developed by China, can be installed inside or near the hospital and operated directly by doctors. The Irradiator has two neutron beams for respective treatment of the shallow and deep tumors. It is expected to initiate operation in the end of this year. It would provide a safe, low cost, and effective treatment tool for the NCT routine application in near future. 展开更多

The nuclear-independent chemical shifts (NICS) values calculated using the gauge-including atomic orbitals (GIAO) method were used to assess on the aromaticities of these molecules. The development of new accelerators has given a new impetus to the development of new drugs and treatment technologies using boron neutron capture therapy(BNCT).We analyzed the current status and future directions of BNCT for cancer treatment,as well as the main issues related to its introduction.This review highlights the principles of BNCT and the key milestones in its development:new boron delivery drugs and different types of charged particle accelerators are described;several important aspects of BNCT implementation are discussed.BCNT could be used alone or in combination with chemotherapy and radiotherapy,and it is evaluated in light of the outlined issues.For the speedy implementation of BCNT in medical practice,it is necessary to develop more selective boron delivery agents and to generate an epithermal neutron beamwith definite characteristics.Pharmacological companies and research laboratories should have access to accelerators for large-scale screening of new,more specific boron delivery agents. 展开更多

Spectral fine structure of the atomic ground states based on full relativistic theory

We focus on the full relativistic quantum mechanical calculations from boron to fluorine atoms with electronic configuration of 1s^22s^22p^n (n = 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5), where ls^22s^2 is the closed shell and 2pn is the open shell. Their active electrons in the open shell occupy all the six spinors as far as possible. Therefore, we suggest a new rule called "maximum probability" for the full symmetry group relativistic theory. Furthermore, the spectral fine structure of the atomic ground states based on the full relativistic theory and their intervals of L-S splitting are all reasonable. It is impossible to calculate the L-S splitting through non-relativistic quantum mechanics. The relativistic effect of atomic mass is increased significantly by about 12 folds from boron atom to fluorine atom. 展开更多
