The bus is still the main mode of intercity transportation in Canada. Despite, an essentially unchanged conception, the total weight of the bus has increased by over 25% during the last three decades. To solve this problem, industrialists have moved to the use of light metals in the transportation field. Therefore, use of lightweight materials, such as aluminum is essential to reduce the total weight of bus. In this study, the focus is on the bus frame as it represents 30% of the total weight and it is the most stressed part of the bus. Its life duration is more important compared to that of all other elements. Thus, a study of the static and vibratory behavior would be very decisive. In this article, two types of analysis are carried out. First is the modal analysis to determine the natural frequencies and the mode shapes using a developed dynamic model of the bus. Because if any of the excitation frequencies coincides with the natural frequencies of the bus frame, then resonance phenomenon occurs. This may lead to excessive deflection, high stress concentration, fatigue of the structure and vehicle discomfort. In this case, the results analysis shows that the natural frequencies are not affected by the change of material. The second type of analysis is the linear static stress analysis to consider the stress distribution and deformation frame pattern under static loads numerically. For the numerical method, the frame is designed using SolidWorks and the analysis is made using Ansys WorkBench. The maximum Von Mises stress obtained for the static loading is in the same order for the three chassis frames studied. But in the case of the aluminium frame, the weight of 764 kg was reduced.展开更多

The lifecycle model of emission reduction demonstrates the ecological and financial impacts of a complete transition from the current diesel bus fleet to an all-electric bus fleet in New York City by 2033. This study focuses on the NOx pollution, which is the highest among all major cities by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and greenhouse gases (GHG) with annual emissions of over five million tons. Our model predicts that switching to an all-electric bus fleet will cut GHG emissions by over 390,000 tons and NOx emissions by over 1300 tons annually, in addition to other pollutants such as VOCs and PM 2.5. yielding an annual economic benefit of over 75.94 million USD. This aligns with the city mayor office’s initiative of achieving total carbon neutrality. We further model an optimized transition roadmap that balances ecological and long-term benefits against the costs of the transition, emphasizing feasibility and alignment with the natural replacement cycle of existing buses, ensuring a steady budgeting pattern to minimize interruptions and resistance. Finally, we advocate for collaboration between government agencies, public transportation authorities, and private sectors, including electric buses and charging facility manufacturers, which is essential for fostering innovation and reducing the costs associated with the transition to e-buses.展开更多

As the basis and cornerstone of economic operation and security of IES, energy flow calculation(EFC) has been widely studied. Traditional EFC focuses on the single or distributed slack bus models, which results in the lack of unlimited power to maintain system operation, especially for electric power grid working in islanded or coupled mode. To deal with this problem, this paper proposes a network-based virtual-slack bus(VSB) model in EFC. Firstly, considering the anticipated growth of energy conversion units(ECUs) with power adjustment capacity, the generators and ECUs are together modeled as a virtual slack bus model to reduce the concentrated power burden of IES. Based on this model, a power sensitivity method is designed to achieve the power sharing among the ECUs, where the power can be allocated adaptively based on the network conditions. Moreover, the method is helpful to maintain the voltage and pressure profile of IES. With these changes, a dynamic energy flow analysis including virtual slack bus types is extended for IES.It can realize the assessment of the system state. Finally, simulation studies illustrate the beneficial roles of the VSB model.展开更多

The working water depth is generally more than 500 m, so it has higher requirements for its sealing performance. In this paper, the VX gasket matched with H-4 subsea wellhead connector is taken as the research object, and the mechanical analysis under preload and production conditions is carried out. The finite element model of subsea wellhead connector is established by ABAQUS software, and the influence of axial preload, production pressure and material properties on the sealing performance of VX gasket is studied. The results show that the greater the axial preload, the greater the contact stress on the gasket surface;the contact stress decreases first and then increases linearly with the increase of production pressure;the material properties of the gasket are also an important factor affecting its sealing performance, 316L stainless steel is more suitable for gasket material than 304 stainless steel and Inconel625.展开更多

Based on the statistical analysis of the bus transit travel time, six indices including the coefficient of variance, the width of travel time distribution, the mean commercial speed, the congestion frequency, the planning time index and the buffer time index are proposed. Moreover, a framework for evaluating bus transit travel time reliability is constructed. Finally, a case study on a certain bus route in Suzhou is conducted. Results show that the proposed evaluation index system is simple and intuitive, and it can effectively reflect the efficiency and stability of bus operations. And a distinguishing feature of bus transit travel time reliability is the temporal pattern. It varies across different time periods.展开更多

In order to establish the theoretical relation between metal sealing ring's contact stress and its structural parameters and working pressure, a mechanical analysis method for double-cone sealing of high pressure vessels is applied in analyzing the metal sealing ring under the condition of preload and operation. As a result, the formula of the unit sealing load for the metal sealing ring under operation with residual preload is shown in this paper, which ensures that the metal sealing ring has an excellent sealing effect and can prevent the metal sealing ring from yielding. Besides, while analyzing the sealing process of the metal sealing ring, the change rule of contact stress and working pressure is concluded here, putting forward that the structural parameters of the metal sealing ring are the major factors affecting the change rule. Finally, the analytical solution through theoretical analysis is compared with the simulation result through finite element analysis in a force feedback experiment, and both are consistent with each other, which fully verifies for the design and calculation theory on metal sealing ring's contact stress and its structural parameters and working pressure deduced in this paper. The proposed research will be treated as an applicable theory guiding the design of metal seal for subsea X-tree wellhead connectors.展开更多

This study investigates the viability for Unitrans, the bus service for the greater Davis area and the university campus, to replace current compressed natural gas buses with plug-in electric versions. This study presents an inventory of market available electric buses, their associated costs, incentives, and infrastructure concerns, and compares projected energy use, net present cost, and greenhouse gas emissions with their CNG counterparts. ADVISOR vehicle simulation software is used to estimate the energy use of a typical electric bus (New Flyer Xcelsior XE40 300 kW) and compare to the current CNG model (Orion V) along an actual Unitrans route. The model estimates that the selected bus can travel 146 miles on a single charge, with a fuel economy of 1.75 kWh per mile, which meets the service requirements. Results for bus replacement schedules between 5 and 49 in the 12-year analysis period indicate that between 1600 and 22,000 MT of carbon can be avoided. The net present cost analysis indicates that the potential savings from the replacement of a single CNG bus with an electric bus (with available incentives) ranges from $146,000 - $211,000 per bus over its lifetime, depending on infrastructure costs.展开更多

The sealing ring, made from PTFE composites, was subjected to serious wear on the sealing surface, but the mating metal surface only had slight abrasion. A specialized test rig was designed for wear research and failure analysis of the sealing ring. The composition analyses of the ring material, working conditions and wear surface characteristics by visual inspection and tribological properties as well as microscopic analysis with scanning electron microscope was performed to determine the wear mechanism and failure causes. Results revealed that the wear of PTFE composites was characterized by abrasion and adhesion after a certain duration testing, and the wear mechanism changed to thermal fatigue and abrasive wear in the stage of intense wear. The thermal deformation and fatigue were primarily responsible for the rapid wear of the PTFE composites for the sealing rings.展开更多

Therefore, the Arrhenius equation is widely used due to its simple form and often leads to suitable results. Where, the Arrhenius equation presents a linear relation for the temperature-dependent shift factor in logarithmic scale ln(α) with the absolute inverse temperature (1/θ). However, in cases with a large temperature range which eventually include more complex reaction processes, the functional relation between ln(α) and (1/θ) is nonlinear in the 'Arrhenius plot'. In those cases, the monotone change of the nonlinear range in the 'Arrhenius plot' can be interpreted as a transient range between two approximately linear or constant regions. An extended application of the modified Arrhenius equation from Nakamura (1989) is presented in this study for this transient range. The introduced method was applied to describe the time-temperature equivalence in the relaxation analysis of restoring seal force of metal seals, which are used in lid-systems of transport and interim storage casks for radioactive materials. But, the method is widely valid and can be used for different objectives which are characterized by thermorheologically simple behavior with nonlinear sensitivity to inverse temperature.展开更多

Finally, simulation studies illustrate the beneficial roles of the VSB model.
文摘Subsea wellhead connector is the key equipment for offshore oil and gas production. The results show that the greater the axial preload, the greater the contact stress on the gasket surface;the contact stress decreases first and then increases linearly with the increase of production pressure;the material properties of the gasket are also an important factor affecting its sealing performance, 316L stainless steel is more suitable for gasket material than 304 stainless steel and Inconel625.

文摘In order to provide important parameters for schedule designing, decision-making bases for transit operation management and references for passengers traveling by bus, bus transit travel time reliability is analyzed and evaluated based on automatic vehicle location (AVL) data. It varies across different time periods.

文摘The metal sealing performance of subsea X-tree wellhead connectors is crucial for the safety and reliability of subsea X-trees. The proposed research will be treated as an applicable theory guiding the design of metal seal for subsea X-tree wellhead connectors.

文摘This paper presents an important investigation into car travel time affected by mixed traffic flow near a bus stop on the basis of survival analysis theory.Travel time data associated with mixed traffic characteristics near a bus stop were collected by video cameras.A hazard-based duration model was introduced to analyze the effects of mixed traffic flow on car travel time. The results indicate that mixed traffic flow impacts car travel time significantly. And the presence of bus berthing violation would delay car travel time. The proposed model can be used to forecast temporal shifts in car travel time due to changes in mixed traffic flow. The influential factors related to mixed traffic flow should be given full consideration in the planning and designing of bus stops in developing countries.
文摘As university campuses look to decrease their greenhouse gas emissions, plug-in electric buses may provide a low carbon alternative to conventionally fossil-powered buses. The net present cost analysis indicates that the potential savings from the replacement of a single CNG bus with an electric bus (with available incentives) ranges from $146,000 - $211,000 per bus over its lifetime, depending on infrastructure costs.

文摘A dry-gas seal system is a non-contact seal technology that is widely used in different industrial applications.Spiral-groove dry-gas seal utilizes fluid dynamic pressure effects to realize the seal and lubrication processes, while forming a high pressure gas film between two sealing faces due to the deceleration of the gas pumped in or out. There is little research into the effects and the influence on seal performance,if the grooves and the gas film are at the micro-scale.This paper investigates the micro-scale effects on spiral-groove dry-gas seal performance in a numerical solution of a corrected Reynolds equation. The Reynolds equation is discretized by means of the finite difference method with the second order scheme and solved by the successive-over-relaxation(SOR) iterative method. The Knudsen number of the flow in the sealing gas film is changed from 0.005 to 0.120 with a variation of film depth and sealing pressure. The numerical results show that the average pressure in the gas film and the sealed gas leakage increase due to micro-scale effects. The open force is enlarged, while the gas film stiffness is significantly decreased due to micro-scale effects. The friction torque and power consumption remain constant, even in low sealing pressure and spin speed conditions. In this paper, the seal performance at different rotor face spin speeds is also described. The proposed research clarifies the micro-scale effects in a spiral-groove dry-gas seal and their influence on seal performance, which is expected to be useful for the improvement of the design of dry-gas seal systems operating in the slip flow regime.

文摘The sealing rings are one of the most important components as the sealing devices in the wet clutch unit of a heavy vehicle. The thermal deformation and fatigue were primarily responsible for the rapid wear of the PTFE composites for the sealing rings.
文摘For the application of the time-temperature superposition principle a suitable relation is needed to describe the time-temperature shift factor a. But, the method is widely valid and can be used for different objectives which are characterized by thermorheologically simple behavior with nonlinear sensitivity to inverse temperature.

文摘This paper focuses on a strategic improving quality of"high quality assurance CAE (computer aided engineering) analysis model" to be used in development design. The authors present a case oftransaxle oil seal leakage in automotive drive trains, a technical reliability problem that generates bottlenecks for auto manufacturers around the world. The application of this model is used to analyze cavitation caused by the metal particles (foreign matter) generated through transaxle wear. This analyzing method primarily uses numerical simulation (CAE) to clarify the technological mechanism generating oil leaks as a result of foreign metallic substances entering oil seals in the drive train. Quality improvement using this CAE analyzing method was verified by successfully applying it to the technological problem of development design bottlenecks at auto manufacturers.
