According to a study[1], the static LEAR vacuum pressure was about 510?12 Torr, but local pressure bumps up to 10?9 Torr occurred during continuous injection of about 108 ions/s. A dynamic pressure increase was attributed to the outgassing of vacuum equipment due to the impact of lost ions. The ion-induced desorption can seriously limit the ion intensity, luminosity, and beam lifetime of the accelerator.展开更多

Light-isotope targets, such as hydrogen and deuterium, are the most favorite candidates for hadron physics study. For physical experiments, the figure of merit is usually the luminosity, and it is found that the frozen micro-spheres (called pellets) could provide a high luminosity which is comparable to that of an external target, whereas the conventional gas targets can not reach this criterion because of the heavy gas load in the reaction chamber. A global detector with nearly '4 configuration can be arranged around the pellet target. In the near future, a pellet target facility with global detectors is foreseen at CSRm in Lanzhou.展开更多

The number of stored particles in CSRm is estimated to be 1×109 particles per cycle with the existing accelerator(s) as the injector. With the aid of a planned booster as the injector, the maximum stored particles per cycle can be elevated to 1×1012. The revolution frequency is typically in the order of 1 MHz for the present CSRm ring with a circumference of 161.0 m. With the new booster, a maximum experimental luminosity for pellet target is estimated to be 1×1034/(cm2·s).展开更多
