The resulting composite fibers exhibited a sponge-like structure with embedded TiO2 nanoparticles within a polymer matrix. Their photocatalytic performance for ammonia removal from aqueous solutions under UV-A light exposure was thoroughly investigated. The findings revealed that PeTi8 composite fibers displayed superior adsorption capacity compared to other samples. Moreover, the study explored the impact of pH, light intensity, and catalyst dosage on the photocatalytic degradation of ammonia. Adsorption equilibrium isotherms closely followed the Langmuir model, with the results indicating a correlation between qm values of 2.49 mg/g and the porous structure of the adsorbents. The research underscored the efficacy of TiO2 composite fibers in the photocatalytic removal of aqueous under UV-A light. Notably, increasing the distance between the photocatalyst and the light source resulted in de-creased hydroxyl radical concentration, influencing photocatalytic efficiency. These findings contribute to our understanding of TiO2 composite fibers as promising photocatalysts for ammonia removal in water treatment applications.展开更多

To this end, pineapple, cyperus and imperata plant fibers, due to their endemic availability, were used as reinforcement on sourced materials, notably bar soil, lateritic gravel and silty sand. Complete identification and mechanical tests (Proctor and CBR) were carried out on materials in their natural state (soil) and on composite materials (soil + plant fibers) in the laboratory to determine their classification in road geotechnics, their compaction parameters and their mechanical behavior. Firstly, the various types of 2.5 cm long fibers were incorporated into the different types of soil at mass contents of 1% and 2%. This part of the study showed that the pineapple fiber composite incorporated into class A2 bar soil offered the best results, with a 38% gain in CBR index compared with the natural soil. Pineapple fibers incorporated at 1% in lateritic gravel raise the CBR value of the reinforced soil to 10% of the CBR value of the natural soil and to 7% for silty sand.展开更多

Fused filament deposition (FDM) manufacturing is the most widely used technique in the field of AM, due to low operating and material costs. However, the materials commonly used for this technology are virgin thermoplastics. It is worth noting a considerable amount of waste exists due to failed print and disposable prototypes. In this regard, using green and sustainable materials is essential to limit the impact on the environment. The recycled, bio-based, and blended recycled materials are therefore a potential approach for 3D printing. In contrast, the lack of understanding of the mechanism of interlayer adhesion and the degradation of materials for FDM printing has posed a major challenge for these green materials. This paper provides an overview of the FDM technique and material requirements for 3D printing filaments. The main objective is to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of using recycled, bio-based, and blended materials based on thermoplastics for 3D printing filaments. In this work, solutions to improve the mechanical properties of 3D printing parts before, during, and after the printing process are pointed out. This paper provides an overview on choosing which materials and solutions depend on the specific application purposes. Moreover, research gaps and opportunities are mentioned in the discussion and conclusions sections of this study.展开更多

Not only does this material have an improved section modulus, but it is also inexpensive, light, easy to manipulate, and commercially available in various sizes. Using a computer program based on the finite element method, we calculated the hogging and sagging stresses and strains acting on a prismatic boat model composed of this material, and determined the minimum sizes and maximum permissible stresses to avoid deformation. Finally, we calculated the structural weight of the resulting vessel for comparison with another structure of comparable dimensions constructed from the commonly used core material Divinycell.展开更多

Results show that the tensile strength(1,450 MPa), hardness(HRC 41-47) and impact toughness(94.7J·cm^(-2)) of bainitic steel were comparatively high, while its elongation was slightly low(4.0%). Tensile strength(1,100 MPa), hardness(>HRC 31) and elongation(7.72%) of the interface were also relatively high, but its impact toughness was low at 20.4 J·cm^(-2). Results of theoretical calculation of the element distribution in the interface region were basically consistent with that of EDS. Therefore, electroslag casting is a practical process to produce bimetallic composite material of bainitic steel and PD3 steel, and theoretical calculation also is a feasible method to study element distribution of their interface.展开更多

In order to reduce the spacecraft weight and increase the payload, composite material structures will be widely used. It is difficult to evaluate the strength and life of composite materials due to their complex mechanism and various phenomena in damage and failure.Meanwhile, the structures of composite materials used in spacecrafts will bear complex loads, including the coupling loads of tension, pressure, bending, shear, and torsion. Static loads, thermal loads, and vibration loads may occur at the same time, which asks for verification requirements to ensure the structure safety. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out a systematic multi-level experimental study. In this paper, the building block approach (BBA) is used to investigate the multilevel composite material structures for spacecrafts. The advanced measurement technology is adopted based on digital image correlation (DIC) and piezoelectric and optical fiber sensors to measure the composite material structure deformation. The virtual experiment technology is applied to provide sufficient and reliable data for the evaluation of the composite material structures of spacecrafts.展开更多

However, the correspondence principle becomes invalid when the materials exhibit ageing. To deal with this problem, a second-order two-scale(SOTS) computational method in the time domain is presented to predict the ageing linear viscoelastic performance of composite materials with a periodic structure. First, in the time domain, the SOTS formulation for calculating the effective relaxation modulus and displacement approximate solutions of the ageing viscoelastic problem is formally derived. Error estimates of the displacement approximate solutions for SOTS method are then given. Numerical results obtained by the SOTS method are shown and compared with those by the finite element method in a very fine mesh. Both the analytical and numerical results show that the SOTS computational method is feasible and efficient to predict the ageing linear viscoelastic performance of composite materials with a periodic structure.展开更多

文摘In recent years, additive manufacturing (AM), known as “3D printing”, has experienced exceptional growth thanks to the development of mechatronics and materials science. Moreover, research gaps and opportunities are mentioned in the discussion and conclusions sections of this study.
文摘In this paper, we investigate the properties of an alternative material for use in marine engineering, namely a rigid and light sandwich-structured composite made of expanded polystyrene and fiberglass. Finally, we calculated the structural weight of the resulting vessel for comparison with another structure of comparable dimensions constructed from the commonly used core material Divinycell.

文摘An expert system prototype for fibre-reinforced plastic matrix (FRP) composite material design, ESFRP, has been developed. The system consists of seven main functional parts: a general inference engine, a set of knowledge bases, a material properties algorithm base, an explanation engine, various data bases, several function models and the user interface. The ESFRP can simulate human experts to make design scheme for fibre-reinforced plastics design, FRP layered plates design and FRP typical engineering components design. It can also predict the material properties and make strength analysis according to the micro and macro mechanics of composite materials. A satisfied result can be gained through the reiterative design.

文摘This article is focused on the investigation of the mechanical and thermal properties of composite material that could be used for the production of plaster or plasterboards. This composite material is made of gypsum and reinforcing natural fibers. The article verifies whether this natural reinforcement can improve the investigated properties compared to conventional plasters and gypsum plasterboards made of pure gypsum. From this composite material,high-strength plasterboards could then be produced, which meet the higher demands of users than conventional gypsum plasterboards. For their production, natural waste materials would be used efficiently. As part of the development of new building materials,it is necessary to specify essential characteristics for their later use in civil engineering.Crushed wheat straw and three gypsum classes with strengths G2(2 MPa)—gypsum Class I.,G5(5 MPa)—gypsum Class II.and G16(16 MPa)—gypsum Class III.were used to create the test samples.Samples were made with different ratios of the two ingredients, with the percentages of straw being 0%,2.5%,and 5%for each gypsum grade. The first part of the article describes how the increasing proportion of straw affects the composite’s mechanical properties(flexural strength and compressive strength). The second part of the article focuses on the change of thermal properties(thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity). The last part of the article mentions the verification of the fire properties(single-flame source fire test and gross heat of combustion)of this composite material. The research has shown that the increasing proportion of straw reinforcement caused a deterioration in the flexural strength(up to 56.49%in the 3.series of gypsum Class II.)and compressive strength(up to 80.27%in the 3.series of gypsum Class III.)and an improvement in the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity(up to 31.40%in the 3.series).This composite material is thus not suitable for the production of high-strength plasterboards, but its reduced mechanical properties do not prevent its use for interior plasters.Based on the performed fire tests,it can be said that this composite material can be classified as a non-flammable material of reaction to fire Classes A1 or A2.From an ecological point of view,it is advantageous to use a composite material with a higher straw content.

文摘Bimetallic composite material of bainitic steel and PD3 steel was produced with electroslag casting process, and element distribution of its composite interface was investigated by theoretical calculation and energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS). Therefore, electroslag casting is a practical process to produce bimetallic composite material of bainitic steel and PD3 steel, and theoretical calculation also is a feasible method to study element distribution of their interface.

文摘With the implementation of new-generation launch vehicles, space stations, lunar and deep space exploration, etc.,the development of spacecraft structures will face new challenges. The virtual experiment technology is applied to provide sufficient and reliable data for the evaluation of the composite material structures of spacecrafts.

文摘The correspondence principle is an important mathematical technique to compute the non-ageing linear viscoelastic problem as it allows to take advantage of the computational methods originally developed for the elastic case. Both the analytical and numerical results show that the SOTS computational method is feasible and efficient to predict the ageing linear viscoelastic performance of composite materials with a periodic structure.

文摘In this study, the deformation and stress distribution of printed circuit board(PCB)with different thickness and composite materials under a shock loading were analyzed by the finite element analysis. The standard 8-layer PCB subjected to a shock loading 1500 g was evaluated first. Moreover, the finite element models of the PCB with different thickness by stacking various number of layers were discussed. In addition to changing thickness, the core material of PCB was replaced from woven E-glass/epoxy to woven carbon fiber/epoxy for structural enhancement. The non-linear material property of copper foil was considered in the analysis. The results indicated that a thicker PCB has lower stress in the copper foil in PCBs under the shock loading. The stress difference between the thicker PCB(2.6 mm)and thinner PCB(0.6 mm)is around 5%.Using woven carbon fiber/epoxy as core material could lower the stress of copper foil around 6.6%under the shock loading 1500 g for the PCB with 0.6 mm thickness. On the other hand, the stress level is under the failure strength of PCBs with carbon fiber/epoxy core layers and thickness 2.6 mm when the peak acceleration changes from 1500 g to 5000 g.This study could provide a reference for the design and proper applications of the PCB with different thickness and composite materials.
