As mentioned by National Geographic(2017),70%of world’s population is expected to live in large apartment buildings by 2050.Today,buildings in cities generate 30%of world’s greenhouse gas emission or GHG(National Ge...As mentioned by National Geographic(2017),70%of world’s population is expected to live in large apartment buildings by 2050.Today,buildings in cities generate 30%of world’s greenhouse gas emission or GHG(National Geographic,2017).Major urban centers are committed to reducing greenhouse gases by 80%by 2050(IEA,2021).However,achieving such goals in rental properties is not easy.Landlords are hesitant to use high-efficiency technologies because,typically,tenants pay the utilities bill.However,that situation is rapidly changing.For example,New York City like other US cities,is considering a carbon cap on all large buildings(Local Law 97,2019).That means landlords will pay a carbon penalty if the building’s carbon footprint exceeds certain threshold no matter who uses that carbon.The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory(PNNL)has received funds from DOE(US Department of Energy)with the collaboration of a commercial partner to address emerging energy efficiency market opportunity in multi-family or rental housing as discussed above.It has partnered with a large national real estate owner in order to test a novel energy optimization method at a rental property in Tempe,Arizona.By using a seamless-integrated method of acquiring building’s operating data,the optimization approach essentially resets setpoints of different energy consuming equipment such as chillers,boilers,pumps,and fans.Data-driven optimization approach is pragmatic and easily transferrable to other buildings.The authors shall share the problem background,technical approach,and preliminary results.展开更多

This shift happened so i...In a short time, during the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, we managed to shift rapidly to use digital technologies and replace some of our daily operations with virtual modes. This shift happened so instantly and widely that it enables us to argue that the COVID-19 became a valid reason to boost some of the gradual and ongoing transitions towards faster transformations. In this study, we use gray literature to delve into arguments around the boost for digitization, digitalization, and systems thinking in the development of the built environment. This is mostly discussed from the influence of COVID-19 on some of the existing practices or the business-as-usual of the built environment sector. From technological advancement to technology use, these arguments are put forward to discuss what is likely to be the major driver of technological adoption and the shifting paradigms that are yet to be revealed. The study concludes that the current push towards new directions and development pathways are likely to be widely accepted in a shorter time. The findings of this brief study feed into existing arguments on transformative pathways due to the COVID-19 pandemic.展开更多

Public procurement denotes the attainment of goods,works,or services required by governments through contracts.Public procurement is usually plagued with covert practices and exclusive forms of corruption in Banglades...Public procurement denotes the attainment of goods,works,or services required by governments through contracts.Public procurement is usually plagued with covert practices and exclusive forms of corruption in Bangladesh.The cost of development finance is much higher in public procurement than that of others in Bangladesh.There have been no unified rules or laws regarding government purchases since 2006.The Government of Bangladesh enacted its ever first act of public procurement,the Public Procurement Act,2006(PPA,2006),and the Public Procurement Rules,2008(PPR,2008).The procurement entity must disseminate procurement information through electronic medium i.e.Electronic Government Procurement(hereinafter e-GP).Despite passing over an era since its enactment,the role of the PPA,2006 remains seriously under-researched area,specifically there is no research on the issue of the grievance redress mechanisms.The study has been done using a qualitative case study methodology,backed by both primary and secondary documentary analysis.Based on empirical data,this paper explained the role of digitalization in the process of government procurement and depicted changes that have been brought by the implementation of e-GP in government purchases.However,it concluded that the grievance redress mechanism in the process of procurement is only existing in the policy papers which need mandatory implementation for a transparent and accountable governance system.Despite the significant changes and up-gradation in digital government procurement,it is hardly found that the GRM process is digitalized.And the mass tenderers are yet to be acquainted with the improvised system apart from the consistent efforts of the government.展开更多

In today’s turbulent and complex business environment, supply chain resilience and ro...Black swan events such as the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak cause substantial supply chain disruption risks to modern companies. In today’s turbulent and complex business environment, supply chain resilience and robustness as two critical capabilities for firms to cope with disruptions have won substantial attention from both the academia and industry. Accordingly, this study intends to explore how digitalization helps build supply chain resilience and robustness. Adopting organizational information processing theory, it proposes the mediating effect of supply chain collaboration and the moderating effect of formal contracts. Using survey data of Chinese manufacturing firms, the study applied structural equation modelling to test the research model. Results show that digitalization has a direct effect on supply chain resilience, and supply chain collaboration can directly facilitate both resilience and robustness. Our study also indicates a complementary mediating effect of supply chain collaboration on the relationship between digitalization and supply chain resilience and an indirect-only mediation effect on the relationship between digitalization and supply chain robustness. Findings reveal the differential roles of digitalization as a technical factor and supply chain collaboration as an organizational factor in managing supply chain disruptions. Paradoxically, formal contracts enhance the relationship between digitalization and supply chain resilience but weaken the relationship between supply chain collaboration and supply chain resilience. The validation of moderating effects determines the boundary conditions of digitalization and supply chain collaboration and provides insights into governing supply chain partners’ behavior. Overall, this study enhances the understanding on how to build a resilient and robust supply chain.展开更多

Proton exchange membrane(PEM)fuel cell has been regarded as a promising approach to the decarbonization and diversification of energy sources.In recent years,durability and cost issues of PEM fuel cells are increasing...Proton exchange membrane(PEM)fuel cell has been regarded as a promising approach to the decarbonization and diversification of energy sources.In recent years,durability and cost issues of PEM fuel cells are increasingly significant with the rapid increase of power density.However,the failure to maintain the cell consistency,as one major cause of the above issue,has attracted little attention.Therefore,this study intends to figure out the underlying cause of cell inconsistency and provide solutions to it from the perspective of multi-physics transport coupled with electrochemical reactions.The PEM fuel cells with electrodes under two compression modes are firstly discussed to fully explain the relationship of cell performance and consistency to electrode structure and multi-physics transport.The result indicates that one main cause of cell inconsistency is the intrinsic conflict between the separated transport and cooperated consumption of oxygen and electron throughout the active area.Then,a mixed-pathway electrode design is proposed to reduce the cell inconsistency by enhancing the mixed transport of oxygen and electron in the electrode.It is found that the mixing of pathways in electrodes at under-rib region is more effective than that at the under-channel region,and can achieve an up to 40%reduction of the cell inconsistency with little(3.3%)sacrificed performance.In addition,all the investigations are implemented based on a self-developed digitalization platform that reconstructs the complex physical–chemical system of PEM fuel cells.The fully observable physical information of the digitalized cells provides strong support to the related analysis.展开更多

In this paper, a new rock cutting analysis model that considers the influence of the rock crushing zone(RCZ) is built. The formula for an ultimate cutting force is established based on the limit equilibrium principle. The relationship between digital drilling parameters(DDP) and the c-φ parameter(DDP-cφ formula, where c refers to the cohesion and φ refers to the internal friction angle) is derived, and the response of drilling parameters and cutting ratio to the strength parameters is analyzed. The drillingbased measuring method for the c-φ parameter of rock is constructed. The laboratory verification test is then completed, and the difference in results between the drilling test and the compression test is less than 6%. On this basis, in-situ rock drilling tests in a traffic tunnel and a coal mine roadway are carried out, and the strength parameters of the surrounding rock are effectively tested. The average difference ratio of the results is less than 11%, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method for obtaining the strength parameters based on digital drilling. This study provides methodological support for field testing of rock strength parameters.展开更多

From technological advancement to technology use, these arguments are put forward to discuss what is likely to be the major driver of technological adoption and the shifting paradigms that are yet to be revealed. The study concludes that the current push towards new directions and development pathways are likely to be widely accepted in a shorter time. The findings of this brief study feed into existing arguments on transformative pathways due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

文摘Public procurement denotes the attainment of goods,works,or services required by governments through contracts.Public procurement is usually plagued with covert practices and exclusive forms of corruption in Bangladesh.The cost of development finance is much higher in public procurement than that of others in Bangladesh.There have been no unified rules or laws regarding government purchases since 2006.The Government of Bangladesh enacted its ever first act of public procurement,the Public Procurement Act,2006(PPA,2006),and the Public Procurement Rules,2008(PPR,2008).The procurement entity must disseminate procurement information through electronic medium i.e.Electronic Government Procurement(hereinafter e-GP).Despite passing over an era since its enactment,the role of the PPA,2006 remains seriously under-researched area,specifically there is no research on the issue of the grievance redress mechanisms.The study has been done using a qualitative case study methodology,backed by both primary and secondary documentary analysis.Based on empirical data,this paper explained the role of digitalization in the process of government procurement and depicted changes that have been brought by the implementation of e-GP in government purchases.However,it concluded that the grievance redress mechanism in the process of procurement is only existing in the policy papers which need mandatory implementation for a transparent and accountable governance system.Despite the significant changes and up-gradation in digital government procurement,it is hardly found that the GRM process is digitalized.And the mass tenderers are yet to be acquainted with the improvised system apart from the consistent efforts of the government.

文摘In the design of filter shaping circuits for nuclear pulse signals,inverting filter shaping circuits perform better than non-inverting filter shaping circuits.Because these circuits facilitate changing the phase of a pulse signal,they are widely used in processing nuclear pulse signals.In this study,the transfer functions of four types of inverting filter shaping circuits,namely the common inverting filter shaping,improved inverting filter shaping,multiple feedback low-pass filter shaping,and third-order multiple feedback low-pass filter shaping,in the Laplacian domain,are derived.We establish the numerical recursive function models and digitalize the four circuits,obtain the transfer functions in the Z domain,and analyze the filter performance and amplitude-frequency response characteristics in the frequency domain.Based on the actual nuclear pulse signal of the Si-PIN detector,we realize four types of inverting digital shaping.The results show that under the same shaping parameters,the common inverting digital shaping has better amplitude extraction characteristics,the third-order multiple feedback low-pass digital shaping has better noise suppression performance,and the multiple feedback digital shaping takes into account both pulse amplitude extraction and noise suppression performance.

文摘Black swan events such as the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak cause substantial supply chain disruption risks to modern companies. In today’s turbulent and complex business environment, supply chain resilience and robustness as two critical capabilities for firms to cope with disruptions have won substantial attention from both the academia and industry. Accordingly, this study intends to explore how digitalization helps build supply chain resilience and robustness. Adopting organizational information processing theory, it proposes the mediating effect of supply chain collaboration and the moderating effect of formal contracts. Using survey data of Chinese manufacturing firms, the study applied structural equation modelling to test the research model. Results show that digitalization has a direct effect on supply chain resilience, and supply chain collaboration can directly facilitate both resilience and robustness. Our study also indicates a complementary mediating effect of supply chain collaboration on the relationship between digitalization and supply chain resilience and an indirect-only mediation effect on the relationship between digitalization and supply chain robustness. Findings reveal the differential roles of digitalization as a technical factor and supply chain collaboration as an organizational factor in managing supply chain disruptions. Paradoxically, formal contracts enhance the relationship between digitalization and supply chain resilience but weaken the relationship between supply chain collaboration and supply chain resilience. The validation of moderating effects determines the boundary conditions of digitalization and supply chain collaboration and provides insights into governing supply chain partners’ behavior. Overall, this study enhances the understanding on how to build a resilient and robust supply chain.

文摘Proton exchange membrane(PEM)fuel cell has been regarded as a promising approach to the decarbonization and diversification of energy sources.In recent years,durability and cost issues of PEM fuel cells are increasingly significant with the rapid increase of power density.However,the failure to maintain the cell consistency,as one major cause of the above issue,has attracted little attention.Therefore,this study intends to figure out the underlying cause of cell inconsistency and provide solutions to it from the perspective of multi-physics transport coupled with electrochemical reactions.The PEM fuel cells with electrodes under two compression modes are firstly discussed to fully explain the relationship of cell performance and consistency to electrode structure and multi-physics transport.The result indicates that one main cause of cell inconsistency is the intrinsic conflict between the separated transport and cooperated consumption of oxygen and electron throughout the active area.Then,a mixed-pathway electrode design is proposed to reduce the cell inconsistency by enhancing the mixed transport of oxygen and electron in the electrode.It is found that the mixing of pathways in electrodes at under-rib region is more effective than that at the under-channel region,and can achieve an up to 40%reduction of the cell inconsistency with little(3.3%)sacrificed performance.In addition,all the investigations are implemented based on a self-developed digitalization platform that reconstructs the complex physical–chemical system of PEM fuel cells.The fully observable physical information of the digitalized cells provides strong support to the related analysis.
文摘In the context of the digital transformation of education in the new era,digital literacy for teachers is a new requirement for professional development.Teacher digital literacy encompasses four main aspects:attitudinal literacy,knowledge and skills literacy,instructional application literacy,and innovation and development literacy.Currently,there are several issues with teacher digital literacy,such as a lack of digital responsibility,insufficient digital knowledge and skills,weak digital application skills,and low digital innovation capability.Enhancing teachers’digital literacy is a complex and critical task.Based on the current state of teachers’digital literacy,this paper proposes the following approaches:(1)adherence to digital norms;(2)development of a robust training mechanism;(3)improvement of the evaluation system;(4)strengthening of digital innovation.

文摘The technology of drilling tests makes it possible to obtain the strength parameter of rock accurately in situ. In this paper, a new rock cutting analysis model that considers the influence of the rock crushing zone(RCZ) is built. The formula for an ultimate cutting force is established based on the limit equilibrium principle. The relationship between digital drilling parameters(DDP) and the c-φ parameter(DDP-cφ formula, where c refers to the cohesion and φ refers to the internal friction angle) is derived, and the response of drilling parameters and cutting ratio to the strength parameters is analyzed. The drillingbased measuring method for the c-φ parameter of rock is constructed. The laboratory verification test is then completed, and the difference in results between the drilling test and the compression test is less than 6%. On this basis, in-situ rock drilling tests in a traffic tunnel and a coal mine roadway are carried out, and the strength parameters of the surrounding rock are effectively tested. The average difference ratio of the results is less than 11%, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method for obtaining the strength parameters based on digital drilling. This study provides methodological support for field testing of rock strength parameters.

文摘The problem of digital controlling of high frequency microplasma arc welding machine has been solved through Fujitsu 16-bits single-chip processor used.Digital welding power sources and their control systems,digital sequential control system,and digital man-machine interaction system were included in digital microplasma arc welding machine studied.Principles,which is about digital sequential control system,digital man-machine interaction system,digital controller and its interface,and controlling software program,were analyzed.It has been showed that full digitalization of high frequency microplasma arc welding machine was fulfilled,minimum welding current of the machine is 0.05A,and arc is stable and can been started unfailingly.
