Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy, hydride generation-atomic fluorescence spectrometry, emission spectrometry, X fluorescence spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction were employed to study the geochemistry and mineralogy of coal gangues from Nos. 2, 3, and 8 coal seams of the Du'erping coal mine, Xishan coalfield, Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. The study revealed that compared with the sedimentary cover, upper continent crust, Carboniferous-Permian coal from North China, as well as most coal in China, coal gangues from Nos. 2 and 3 coal seams are rich in Li, Be, Sc, Cr, Cu, Ga, Ba, Th, Nb, Cd, Pb, Ta and rare-earth elements, and coal gangues from No. 8 coal seam are rich in Li, Sc, V, Cr, Ga, U, and rare-earth elements. Compared with the Carboniferous-Permian coal from North China and most coal in China, coal gangues from Nos. 2, 3 and 8 seams are rich in Rb, V, Cs and Sr. Therefore, The Du'erping coal gangues in the Xishan coalfield are rich in most hazardous trace elements and rare-earth elements, wherein the contents of Ga and Li reach the industrial grade and have significance for industrial utilization. On the whole, coal gangues of the Shanxi Formation from the Permian are rich in more trace elements than those of the Carboniferous Taiyuan Formation. The distributions of REE show obviously dipping rightwards with negative Eu anomalies. The contents of rare-earth elements in the three seams are quite different. All of the above indicate that the source of the rare-earth elements is terrigenous debris. Minerals in No. 2 seam identified by X-ray diffraction mainly include quartz, kaolinite, in addition to calcite, pyrite, apatite, epidote, and epsomite. No. 3 seam mainly contains quartz, kaolinite, in addition to a small amount of sodium feldspar, calcium nitrate, iron ore, gypsum, and vivianite. No. 8 seam mainly contains kaolinite, dickite, quartz, illite, and a small amount of hematite and U. The correlations between major elements and trace elements in coal gangues of the Du'erping coal mine analyzed by using SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) indicate that the trace alkali elements and rare-earth elements occur mainly in such clay minerals as kaolinite. 展开更多

Opencast coal mining produces trash of soil and rock containing various minerals, that are usually dumped nearby the abandoned sites which causes severe environmental concern including the production of acid mine drainage(AMD)through oxidation pyrite minerals. The current study entailed assessing the potential production of AMD from an opencast coal mining region in Northeast part of India. In order to have a comprehensive overview of the AMD problem in Makum coalfield, the physico-chemical,geochemical,and petrological characteristics of the coal and overburden(OB)samples collected from the Makum coalfield(Northeast India)were thoroughly investigated. The maceral compositions reveal that coal features all three groups of macerals(liptinite, vitrinite, and inertinite),with a high concentration of liptinite indicating the coal of perhydrous, thereby rendering it more reactive.Pyrite(FeS_(2))oxidation kinetics were studied by conducting the aqueous leaching experiments of coal and(OB)samples to interpret the chemical weathering under controlled laboratory conditions of various temperature and time periods, and to replicate the actual mine site leaching.Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy(ICP-OES)was operated to detect the disposal of some precarious elements from coal and OB samples to the leachates during our controlled leaching experiment. The Rare earth element(REE)enrichment in the samples shows the anthropogenic incorporation of the REE in the coal and OB.These experiments reveal the change in conductivity, acid producing tendency, total dissolved solid(TDS),total Iron(Fe)and dissolved Sulfate(SO_(4)^(2−))ions on progress of the leaching experiments. Moreover, the discharge of FeS_(2) via atmospheric oxidation in laboratory condition undergoes a significant growth with the rise of temperature of the reaction systems in the environment and follows pseudo first order kinetics.A bio-remediative strategies is also reported in this paper to mitigate AMD water by employing size-segregated powdered limestone and water hyacinth plant in an indigenously developed site-specific prototype station.Apart from neutralisation of AMD water, this eco-friendly AMD remediation strategy demonstrates a reduction in PHEs concentrations in the treated AMD water. 展开更多

This study investigates the paleodepositional conditions of the No.6 Seam of the Madzaringwe Formation in Makhado and Voorburg south area of the Soutpansberg Coalfield(Limpopo Province,South Africa)utilizing organic petrography and inorganic geochemical proxies. The coals are predominantly high-volatile bituminous B-A rank with high ash yields(avg.36.1 wt%),characterized by high-vitrinite(~41.5 vol%),moderate-to-high inertinite(9.8 vol%–33.7 vol%)and low liptinite(~2.3 vol%).The distribution of inertinite varies among different coal horizons(from bottom-lower to middle-upper),suggesting differential oxidation conditions and/or paleofire occurrence.Vitrinite-to-inertinite(V/I)ratio,tissue preservation–gelification index(TPI–GI),and groundwater–vegetation index(GWI–VI)plots, indicate that the peat-forming forest-swamp vegetation accumulated under mesotrophic-to-rheotrophic hydrological conditions. The presence of structured macerals(i.e.,telinite,collotelinite,fusinite,and semifusinite)suggests well-preserved plant tissues, whereas framboidal pyrite and sulphur content(0.24 wt%–2.16 wt%)point to brackish-water influence at the peat stage. The coals contain quartz, kaolinite, siderite, muscovite, dolomite, calcite, and pyrite minerals, most of which were likely sourced from felsic igneous rocks. The Al/(Al+Fe+Mn)and(Fe+Mn)/Ti ratios for the studied samples range between 0.24–0.97 and 0.57–70.10,respectively.The ratios,Al–Fe–Mn plot, and presence of massive botryoidal-type pyrite imply some influence of meteoric waters or fluids from hydrothermal activity post-deposition.Moreover,the chemical index of alteration(CIA:98.25–99.67),chemical index of weathering(CIW:92.04–97.66),and A–CN–K ternary diagram suggest inorganic matter suffered strong chemical weathering, indicating warm paleoclimatic conditions during the coal formation. 展开更多

The objectives of this study were to explore the changes in soil stoichiometry and enzyme activities at different distances from an opencast coal mine in the Hulun Buir Grassland of China. Four transects were established on north and east sides of the opencast coal mining area, and samples were collected at 50 m, 550 m, and 1550 m from the pit on each transect. Control samples were collected from a grassland station 8 km from the opencast coal mining area that was not disturbed by mining. Four replicate soil samples were collected at each point on the four transects. Soil physicochemical properties and enzyme activities were determined, and correlations between soil properties and stoichiometric ratios and enzyme activities were explored using redundancy analysis. The increase in distance from mining did not significantly affect soil properties, although soil urease activity was significantly lower than that of the control area. Soil properties 1550 m from the mine pit were similar to those at the grassland control. In addition, soil total nitrogen had the greatest effect on soil stoichiometry, and soil total potassium had the greatest effect on soil enzyme activities. Coal dust from opencast mining might be the main factor affecting soil stoichiometry and enzyme activities. The results of this study provide direction for the next step in studying the influence of mining areas on soil properties and processes. 展开更多

One of the most dangerous safety hazard in underground coal mines is roof falls during retreat mining.Roof falls may cause life-threatening and non-fatal injuries to miners and impede mining and transportation operations. As a result,a reliable roof fall prediction model is essential to tackle such challenges.Different parameters that substantially impact roof falls are ill-defined and intangible, making this an uncertain and challenging research issue. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health assembled a national database of roof performance from 37 coal mines to explore the factors contributing to roof falls.Data acquired for 37 mines is limited due to several restrictions, which increased the likelihood of incompleteness.Fuzzy logic is a technique for coping with ambiguity, incompleteness, and uncertainty. Therefore,In this paper, the fuzzy inference method is presented, which employs a genetic algorithm to create fuzzy rules based on 109 records of roof fall data and pattern search to refine the membership functions of parameters. The performance of the deployed model is evaluated using statistical measures such as the Root-Mean-Square Error,Mean-Absolute-Error,and coefficient of determination(R_(2)).Based on these criteria, the suggested model outperforms the existing models to precisely predict roof fall rates using fewer fuzzy rules. 展开更多

Exposure to respirable coal mine dust(RCMD)can cause chronic and debilitating lung diseases.Real-time monitoring capabilities are sought which can enable a better understanding of dust components and sources. In many underground mines,RCMD includes three primary components which can be loosely associated with three major dust sources:coal dust from the coal seam itself, silicates from the surrounding rock strata, and carbonates from the inert‘rock dust’products that are applied to mitigate explosion hazards.A monitor which can reliably partition RCMD between these three components could thus allow source apportionment. And tracking silicates, specifically, could be valuable since the most serious health risks are typically associated with this component-particularly if abundant in crystalline silica.Envisioning a monitoring concept based on field microscopy, and following up on prior research using polarized light, the aim of the current study was to build and test a model to classify respirable-sized particles as either coal, silicates,or carbonates. For model development, composite dust samples were generated in the laboratory by successively depositing dust from high-purity materials onto a sticky transparent substrate, and imaging after each deposition event such that the identity of each particle was known a priori.Model testing followed a similar approach, except that real geologic materials were used as the source for each dust component. Results showed that the model had an overall accuracy of 86.5%,indicating that a field-microscopy based moni-tor could support RCMD source apportionment and silicates tracking in some coal mines. 展开更多

CO_(2) mineralization plays a critical role in the storage and utilization of CO_(2).Coal fly ash(CFA)and red mud(RM)are widely utilized as CO_(2) mineralizers. However, the inert calcium species in CFA limit its carbonation capacity, meanwhile the substantial Ca^(2+)releasing of RM is hindered by a covering layer of calcium carbonate. In this study,CO_(2) mineralization in a composite system of CFA and RM was investigated to enhance the carbonation capacity.Multiple analyzers were employed to characterize the raw materials and resulting mineralization products. The results demonstrated that a synergistic effect existed in the composite system of CFA and RM,resulting in improving CO_(2) mineralization rate and efficiency. The produced calcium carbonate was ectopically attached the surface of CFA in the composite system, thus slowing down its coverage on the surface of RM.This phenomenon facilitated further releasing Ca^(2+)from the internal RM,thereby enhancing CO_(2) mineralization efficiency.Meanwhile, the inclusion of RM significantly improved the alkalinity of the composite system, which not only promoted the dissolution of Ca^(2+)of the inert CaSO_(4)(H_(2)O)_(2) in CFA,but also accelerated CO_(2) mineralization rate. The investigation would be beneficial to CO_(2) mineralization using industrial solid wastes. 展开更多

We collected high-quality teleseismic events recorded by 12 broadband seismographs deployed in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas in Pingxiang City,Jiangxi Province for nearly two years. The H-κ-c stacking method was employed to obtain the crustal thickness and Poisson's ratio distribution, then the characteristics of crustal structure below the stations were obtained by using the time-domain linear inversion method. The crustal thickness in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas ranges from approximately 32~35 km,with an average thickness of 33 km,which is consistent with the crustal thickness results in South China from previous studies using the receiver function method. The average Poisson's ratio of the crustal bulk composition in the study area varies between 0.22 and 0.25,which is lower than the global value with a 0.27 average, indicating a predominantly intermediate-acidic or felsic crustal composition. There is a weak negative correlation between Poisson's ratio and crustal thickness estimates in the Anyuan Coal Mine and its adjacent areas, suggesting that the absence of mafic-ultramafic materials in the lower crust is associated with the process of crustal delamination. The velocity inversion results indicate that the crustal structure including three velocity discontinuity interfaces, with the first at a depth of approximately 1.5 km,the second at about 10~15 km,and the third being the Moho. The study also indicates that the results obtained by the H-κ-c stacking method are significantly better than those obtained by the H-κmethod,effectively reducing the standard deviation and dispersion of crustal thickness and vP/vSratio. 展开更多

In recent years, the mining depth of steeply inclined coal seams in the Urumqi mining area has gradually increased.Local deformation of mining coal-rock results in frequent rockbursts. This has become a critical issue that affects the safe mining of deep, steeply inclined coal seams. In this work,we adopt a perspective centered on localized deformation in coal-rock mining and systematically combine theoretical analyses and extensive data mining of voluminous microseismic data.We describe a mechanical model for the urgently inclined mining of both the sandwiched rock pillar and the roof, explaining the mechanical response behavior of key disaster-prone zones within the deep working face, affected by the dynamics of deep mining.By exploring the spatial correlation inherent in extensive microseismic data,we delineate the“time-space”response relationship that governs the dynamic failure of coal-rock during the progression of the sharply inclined working face. The results disclose that(1)the distinctive coal-rock occurrence structure characterized by a“sandwiched rock pillar-B6 roof”constitutes the origin of rockburst in the southern mining area of the Wudong Coal Mine, with both elements presenting different degrees of deformation localization with increasing mining depth.(2)As mining depth increases, the bending deformation and energy accumulation within the rock pillar and roof show nonlinear acceleration. The localized deformation of deep, steeply inclined coal-rock engenders the spatial superposition of squeezing and prying effects in both the strike and dip directions, increasing the energy distribution disparity and stress asymmetry of the“sandwiched rock pillar-B3+6 coal seam-B6 roof”configuration. This makes worse the propensity for frequent dynamic disasters in the working face.(3)The developed high-energy distortion zone“inner-outer”control technology effectively reduces high stress concentration and energy distortion in the surrounding rock. After implementation, the average apparent resistivity in the rock pillar and B6 roof substantially increased by 430%and 300%,respectively,thus guaranteeing the safe and efficient development of steeply inclined coal seams. 展开更多

The grouted bolt, combining rock bolting with grouting techniques, provides an effective solution for controlling the surrounding rock in deep soft rock and fractured roadways. It has been extensively applied in numerous deep mining areas characterized by soft rock roadways, where it has demonstrated remarkable control results. This article systematically explores the evolution of grouted bolting, covering its theoretical foundations, design methods, materials, construction processes, monitoring measures, and methods for assessing its effectiveness. The overview encompassed several key elements, delving into anchoring theory and grouting reinforcement theory. The new principle of high pretensioned high-pressure splitting grouted bolting collaborative active control is introduced.A fresh method for dynamic information design is also highlighted. The discussion touches on both conventional grouting rock bolts and cable bolts,as well as innovative grouted rock bolts and cables characterized by their high pretension, strength, and sealing hole pressure. An examination of the merits and demerits of standard inorganic and organic grouting materials versus the new inorganic–organic composite materials, including their specific application conditions, was conducted.Additionally, the article presents various methods and instruments to assess the support effect of grouting rock bolts, cable bolts, and grouting reinforcement.Furthermore,it provides a foundation for understanding the factors influencing decisions on grouted bolting timing, the sequence of grouting, the pressure applied, the volume of grout used, and the strategic arrangement of grouted rock bolts and cable bolts. The application of the high pretensioned high-pressure splitting grouted bolting collaborative control technology in a typical kilometer-deep soft rock mine in China—the soft coal seam and soft rock roadway in the Kouzidong coal mine,Huainan coal mining area, was introduced. Finally, the existing problems in grouted bolting control technology for deep soft rock roadways are analyzed, and the future development trend of grouted bolting control technology is anticipated. 展开更多

The critical issue in developing mature Oxy-Coal Combustion Steam System technology could be the reactivity of deminer-alized coal which,is closely related to its chemical structure. The chemical structures of Liupanshui raw coal(LPS-R)and Liupanshui demineralized coal(LPS-D)were analyzed by FTIR and solid-state 13C-NMR.The pyrolysis experiments were carried out by TG,and the pyrolysis kinetics was analyzed by three iso-conversional methods.FTIR and 13C-NMR results suggested that the carbon structure of LPS coal was not altered greatly, while demineralization promoted the maturity of coal and the condensation degree of the aromatic ring, making the chemical structure of coal more stable. The oxygen-containing functional groups with low bond energy were reduced, and the ratio of aromatic carbon with high bond energy was increased, decreasing the pyrolysis reactivity.DTG curve-fitting results revealed that the thermal weight loss of LPS coal mainly came from the cleavage of aliphatic covalent bonds.By pyrolysis kinetics analysis of LPS-R and LPS-D,the apparent activation energies were 76±4 to 463±5 kJ/mol and 84±2 to 758±12 kJ/mol,respectively,under different conversion rates. The reactivity of the demineralized coal was inhibited to some extent,as the apparent activation energy of pyrolysis for LPS-D increased by acid treatment. 展开更多

This paper reviews the major achievements in terms of mechanical behaviors of coal measures, mining stress distribution characteristics and ground control in China’s deep underground coal mining. The three main aspects of this review are coal measure mechanics, mining disturbance mechanics, and rock support mechanics.Previous studies related to these three topics are reviewed, including the geo-mechanical properties of coal measures, distribution and evolution characteristics of mining-induced stresses, evolution characteristics of mining-induced structures, and principles and technologies of ground control in both deep roadways and longwall faces.A discussion is made to explain the structural and mechanical properties of coal measures in China’s deep coal mining practices, the types and dis-tribution characteristics of in situ stresses in underground coal mines, and the distribution of mining-induced stress that forms under different geological and engineering conditions. The theory of pre-tensioned rock bolting has been proved to be suitable for ground control of deep underground coal roadways. The use of combined ground control technology(e.g.ground support, rock mass modification, and destressing)has been demonstrated to be an effective measure for rock control of deep roadways. The developed hydraulic shields for 1000 m deep ultra-long working face can effectively improve the stability of surrounding rocks and mining efficiency in the longwall face. The ground control challenges in deep underground coal mines in China are discussed, and further research is recommended in terms of theory and technology for ground control in deep roadways and longwall faces. 展开更多

Cumulative inhalation of respirable coal mine dust(RCMD)can lead to severe lung diseases, including coal worker's pneu-moconiosis(CWP),silicosis,mixed dust pneumoconiosis,dust-related diffuse fibrosis(DDF),and progressive massive fibrosis(PMF).Statistics from the number of reported cases showed a significant decrease in the progression of respiratory diseases in the 1990s.However,an unexpected increase in the number of CWP cases was reported in the late 1990s.To date, there has been no comprehensive systematic review to assess all contributing factors to the resurgence of CWP cases. This study aims to investigate the effects of various mining parameters on the prevalence of CWP in coal mines.A systematic review using the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis(PRISMA)method was conducted to investigate the health effects of RCMD exposure and identify the factors that may contribute to the recent resurgence of CWP cases. The systematic review yielded a total of 401 papers, which were added to the database. The total number of 148 and 208 papers were excluded from the database in the process of screening and eligibility,respectively.Then,18 papers were considered for data selection and full-text assessment. The review revealed that factors including geographic location, mine size, mining operation type,coal-seam thickness, coal rank, changes in mining practices, technology advancement, and engi-neering dust control practices are contributing to the recent resurgence of CWP among coal workers. However, the evidence for root causes is limited owing to the methodological constraints of the studies;therefore, further detailed studies are needed. 展开更多

In the process of green and smart mine construction under the context of carbon neutrality,China's coal safety situation has been continuously improved in recent years. In order to recognize the development of coal production in China and prepare for future monitoring and prevention of safety incidents, this study mainly elaborated on the basic situation of coal resources and national mining accidents over the past five years(2017-2021),from four dimensions(accident level, type, region, and time),and then proposed the preventive measures based on accident statistical laws. The results show that the storage of coal resources has obvious geographic characteristics, mainly concentrated in the Midwest, with coal resources in Shanxi and Shaanxi accounting for about 49.4%.The proportion of coal consumption has dropped from 70.2%to 56%between 2011 and 2021,but still accounts for more than half of the all.Meanwhile, the accident-prone areas are positively correlated with the amount of coal production.Among different levels of coal mine accidents, general accidents had the highest number of accidents and deaths, with 692 accidents and 783 deaths, accounting for 87.6%and 54.64%respectively.The frequency of roof, gas, and transportation accidents is relatively high, and the number of single fatalities caused by gas accidents is the largest, about 4.18.In terms of geographical distribution of accidents, the safety situation in Shanxi Province is the most severe. From the time distribution of coal mine accidents, the accidents mainly occurred in July and August, and rarely occurred in February and December.Finally,the"4+4"safety management model is proposed, combining the statistical results with coal production in China.Based on the existing health and safety management systems, the manage-ments are divided into four sub-categories,and more specific measures are suggested. 展开更多

The purpose of this study is to apply process mineralogy as a practical tool to further understand and analyze the reasons for low leaching rates in the curing-leaching process of vanadium-bearing stone coal and to find a solution or improvement to optimize the leaching index.Using vanadium-bearing stone coal with the V2O5 mass fraction of 0.88%as the research object, the effects of particle size, mineral composition, and sulfuric acid curing on the feed, intermediate, and final products of curing-leaching were analyzed. The main vanadium-bearing minerals in the feed samples included sericite/illite,montmorillonite,kaolinite,limonite,and schreyerite.Through the penetration depth analysis of sulfuric acid, the reason for the high vanadium content in the coarse leaching residue(0.205%V2O5)was found, mainly due to the poor curing effect and incomplete washing after screening. Therefore, thorough washing after sieving and further optimizing the curing process are necessary. The vanadium content of the fine leaching residue(0.078%)was low and the curing-leaching effect was good. However, the vanadium content in the thickened residue(0.296%)exceeded that in the fine leaching residue, which was attributed to the neutralization reaction in the#1 thickener. To solve this problem, the neutralization and thickening processes should be performed in separate equipment. The analysis and detection of key products is helpful for identifying problems and improving the curing-leaching circuit process. 展开更多

The crowd sensing technology can realize the sensing and computing of people, machines, and environment in smart industrial IoT-based coal mine, which provides a solution for safety monitoring through distributed intelligence optimization. However, due to the difficulty of neural network training to achieve global optimality and the fact that traditional LSTM methods do not consider the relationship between adjacent machines, the accuracy of human body position prediction and pressure value prediction is not high.To solve these problems, this paper proposes a smart industrial IoT empowered crowd sensing for safety monitoring in coal mine.First,we propose a Particle Swarm Optimization-Elman Neural Network(PE)algorithm for the mobile human position prediction.Second,we propose an ADI-LSTM neural network prediction algorithm for pressure values of machines supports in underground mines.Among them, our proposed PE algorithm has the lowest average cumulative prediction error, and the trajectory fit rate is improved by 24.1%,13.9%and 8.7%compared with Kalman filtering,Elman and Kalman plus Elman algorithms, respectively.Meanwhile, compared with single-input ARIMA,RNN,LSTM,and GRU,the RMSE values of our proposed ADI-LSTM are reduced by 36.6%,52%,32%,and 13.7%,respectively;and the MAPE values are reduced by 0.0003%,0.9482%,1.1844%,and 0.3620%,respectively. 展开更多

A comprehensive study was undertaken at Jiaozi coal mine to investigate the development regularity of ground fissures in shallow buried coal seam mining with Karst landform, shedding light on the development type, geographical distribution, dynamic development process, and failure mechanism of these ground fissures by employing field monitoring, numerical simulation, and theoretical analysis. The findings demonstrate that ground fissure development has an obvious feature of subregion, and its geographical distribution is significantly affected by topography.Tensile type, open type, and stepped type are three different categories of ground fissure.Ground fissures emerge dynamically as the panel advances, and they typically develop with a distance of less than periodic weighting step distance in advance of panel advancing position.Ground fissures present the dynamic development feature, temporary fissure has the ability of self-healing.The dynamic development process of ground fissure with closed-distance coal seam repeated mining is expounded, and the development scale is a dynamic development stage of“closure→expansion→stabilized”on the basis of the original development scale. From the perspective of topsoil deformation, the computation model considering two points movement vectors towards two directions of the gob and the ground surface is established, the development criterion considering the critical deformation value of topsoil is obtained. The mechanical model of hinged structure of inclined body is proposed to clarify the ground fissure development, and the interaction between slope activity and ground fissure development is expounded. These research results fulfill the gap of ground fissures about development regularity and formation mechanism, and can contribute to ground fissure prevention and treatment with Karst landform. 展开更多

The post-peak characteristics of coal serve as a direct reflection of its failure process and are essential parameters for evaluating brittleness and bursting liability.Understanding the significant factors that influence post-peak characteristics can offer valuable insights for the prevention of coal bursts. In this study, the Synthetic Rock Mass method is employed to establish a numerical model, and the factors affecting coal post-peak characteristics are analyzed from four perspectives:coal matrix mechanical parameters, structural weak surface properties,height-to-width ratio, and loading rate. The research identifies four significant influencing factors:deformation modulus, density of discrete fracture networks,height-to-width ratio, and loading rate. The response and sensitivity of post-peak characteristics to single-factor and multi-factor interactions are assessed. The result suggested that feasible prevention and control measures for coal bursts can be formulated through four approaches:weakening the mechanical properties of coal pillars, increasing the number of structural weak surfaces in coal pillars, reducing the width of coal pillars, and optimizing mining and excavation speed. The efficacy of measures aimed at weakening the mechanical properties of coal is successfully demonstrated through a case study on coal burst prevention using large-diameter borehole drilling. 展开更多

To explore the geological characteristics and exploration potential of the Carboniferous Benxi Formation coal rock gas in the Ordos Basin, this paper presents a systematic research on the coal rock distribution, coal rock reservoirs, coal rock quality, and coal rock gas features, resources and enrichment.Coal rock gas is a high-quality resource distinct from coalbed methane, and it has unique features in terms of burial depth, gas source, reservoir, gas content, and carbon isotopic composition. The Benxi Formation coal rocks cover an area of 16×104km^(2),with thicknesses ranging from 2 m to 25 m,primarily consisting of bright and semi-bright coals with primitive structures and low volatile and ash contents, indicating a good coal quality. The medium-to-high rank coal rocks have the total organic carbon(TOC)content ranging from 33.49%to 86.11%,averaging75.16%.They have a high degree of thermal evolution(Roof 1.2%-2.8%),and a high gas-generating capacity. They also have high stable carbon isotopic values(δ13C1of-37.6‰to-16‰;δ13C2of-21.7‰to-14.3‰).Deep coal rocks develop matrix pores such as gas bubble pores, organic pores, and inorganic mineral pores, which, together with cleats and fractures, form good reservoir spaces. The coal rock reservoirs exhibit the porosity of 0.54%-10.67%(averaging 5.42%)and the permeability of(0.001-14.600)×10^(-3)μm^(2)(averaging 2.32×10^(-3)μm^(2)).Vertically,there are five types of coal rock gas accumulation and dissipation combinations, among which the coal rock-mudstone gas accumulation combination and the coal rock-limestone gas accumulation combination are the most important, with good sealing conditions and high peak values of total hydrocarbon in gas logging.A model of coal rock gas accumulation has been constructed, which includes widespread distribution of medium-to-high rank coal rocks continually generating gas, matrix pores and cleats/fractures in coal rocks acting as large-scale reservoir spaces, tight cap rocks providing sealing,source-reservoir integration, and five types of efficient enrichment patterns(lateral pinchout complex,lenses,low-amplitude structures,nose-like structures, and lithologically self-sealing).According to the geological characteristics of coal rock gas,the Benxi Formation is divided into 8 plays, and the estimated coal rock gas resources with a buried depth of more than 2000 m are more than 12.33×10^(12)m^(3).The above understandings guide the deployment of risk exploration. Two wells drilled accordingly obtained an industrial gas flow, driving the further deployment of exploratory and appraisal wells.Substantial breakthroughs have been achieved, with the possible reserves over a trillion cubic meters and the proved reserves over a hundred billion cubic meters, which is of great significance for the reserves increase and efficient development of natural gas in China. 展开更多
