To explore the livelihood status and key influencing factors of rural households in the minority areas,we collected flat data from 284 rural households in 32 villages across 12 counties of Western Sichuan from 2021 to...To explore the livelihood status and key influencing factors of rural households in the minority areas,we collected flat data from 284 rural households in 32 villages across 12 counties of Western Sichuan from 2021 to 2022.We conducted participatory household survey on the livelihood status of the rural households and try to identify the key factors to influence their livelihood vulnerability using multiple linear regression.The results showed that:the livelihood situation of the rural households is relatively vulnerable.The vulnerability varies significantly with the income levels,education levels,and income sources.The vulnerability of farm households,categorized from low to high livelihood types,follows the sequence:non-agricultural dominant households,non-agricultural households,agricultural dominant households,and pure agricultural households.The degree of damage to the natural environment,education costs,loan opportunities,the proportion of agricultural income to annual household income,and the presence of sick people in the household have significant positive effects on the livelihood vulnerability index(LVI)of rural households;while help from relatives and friends,net income per capita,household size,household education,agricultural land area,participation in industrial organizations,number of livestock,purchase of commercial houses,drinking water source,and self-supply of food have significant negative effects.Based on the findings,we believe that local rural households operate in a complex livelihood system and recommend continuous interventions targeting key influences to provide empirical research support for areas facing similar situations.展开更多
BACKGROUND Most studies have defined economic well-being as socioeconomic status,with little attention given to whether other indicators influence self-esteem.Little is known about racial/ethnic disparities in the rel...BACKGROUND Most studies have defined economic well-being as socioeconomic status,with little attention given to whether other indicators influence self-esteem.Little is known about racial/ethnic disparities in the relationship between economic wellbeing and self-esteem during adulthood.AIM To explore the impact of economic well-being on self-esteem in adulthood and differences in the association across race/ethnicity.METHODS The current study used data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979.The final sample consisted of 2267 African Americans,1425 Hispanics,and 3678 non-Hispanic Whites.Ordinary linear regression analyses and logistic regression analyses were conducted.RESULTS African Americans and Hispanics were more likely to be in poverty in comparison with non-Hispanic Whites.More African Americans were unemployed than Whites.Those who received fringe benefits,were more satisfied with jobs,and were employed were more likely to have higher levels of self-esteem.Poverty was negatively associated with self-esteem.Interaction effects were found between African Americans and job satisfaction predicting self-esteem.CONCLUSION The role of employers is important in cultivating employees’self-esteem.Satisfactory outcomes or feelings of happiness from the workplace may be more important to non-Hispanic Whites compared to African Americans and Hispanics.展开更多

These forests, called sacr...This paper aims to analyze and evaluate a model of forest conservation and management of ethnic minority (or indigenous) people in central Vietnam, often referred to as the spiritual forest. These forests, called sacred forest or ghost forests by the ethnic minority people in Thua Thien Hue province, have existed for a long time among forest residents. However, they have recently declined, both in quality and quantity, due to various factors, including changes in society, economy, environment, and perception, among other reasons. Based on research conducted in A Luoi district, Thua Thien Hue province with household interviews, group discussions, and field surveys, we find that spiritual forest retains religious and human significance. They are also often among the last remaining natural forests left due to deforestation by human activities. The research results indicate challenges that conservation of spiritual forest may face, while giving recommendations derived from communities for sustainable forest development and conservation in the region.展开更多

Ethnic Tibetans(ETs)typically reside in the remote plateaus of China and possess strong cultural and spiritual values.Their financial decision-making is influenced by economic and physical factors,unique culture,socia...Ethnic Tibetans(ETs)typically reside in the remote plateaus of China and possess strong cultural and spiritual values.Their financial decision-making is influenced by economic and physical factors,unique culture,social norms,and psychological motivators.We conducted an in-person survey of 480 randomly selected ET households across four provinces in rural China.The survey data was analyzed using three different econometric models—probit,ordered probit,and ranked ordered logit—to examine the choice of borrowing from formal or informal credit sources,the number of sources borrowed from,and repayment priority.Our findings indicate that mental accounting plays a significant role in the financial decision-making process of ET households.Additionally,we find that the informal credit source is strongly associated with the financial decisions of ET households.The majority of loans from formal financial institutions are used to meet daily needs,as opposed to purchasing productive inputs.Our results also suggest that strong social relationships and religious beliefs prevent households from defaulting,and that loans from formal financial sources receive repayment priority.China would benefit from promoting inclusive finance and encouraging the adoption of improved agricultural practices to support the prosperity of ET and other minority communities.展开更多

Their chemical structures were elucidated by physicochemical properties and spectroscopic methods. [Results] These compounds were determined as kaempferol-3-O-α-L-(3-O-acetyl)-rhamnoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnoside(1), sutchuenoside A(2), kaempferol-3-O-[β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→3)]-α-L-(4-O-acetyl)-rhamnopyranoside-7-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside(3). Compounds 1-3 are isolated from genus Laportea for the first time. Compound 3 is a new compound. Non...In contemporary workplace, organizations are emphasizing on individual’s diversity and inclusion initiatives in order to reinforce managerial adaptability, increase competitive advantage and decrease legal risks. Nonetheless, in recent times, there has arisen a debate on whether diversity is a variable that has an immediate effect on success or not. This study focused on determining if diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, age, etc., has effects on success, by investigating two different data sets;the first one is a massive repository of movies data set and actors to determine if there is a correlation between multiple movie related variables and box office earnings. While the second data focused on Fortunes top 500 companies in the United States (US) vs. 500 less profitable companies in the US. Moreover, the study explores how diversity among Board of Directors (BOD) of fortune 500 companies affects the net sales and gross profits. The movie data set was collected from two main websites;Internet Movie Database (IMDB) and Rotten Tomatoes (RT), the imdb data set contained 107,645 records, while as the rotten tomatoes contained 13,904 records. In addition, information about Fortunes 500 companies was obtained from various websites manually, as immediate data sets were hard to find since it’s the first study that focuses on diversity and success of fortune companies. The data set contained data of fortunes top 500 companies with information of all of its BOD about 5358 records, and less profitable companies of 4434 records. The reason in which these data sets were chosen was to study the ethnic diversity factor and its impact on success rate, and also due to the fact that IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are the most recognized websites that provide access to a massive repository of movie data sets. While the fortune company’s data set was chosen to demonstrate diversity in the chosen dataset where one was for movies and the other was enterprise based. Furthermore, the data was analyzed in python to establish the relationship between the various variables. In all of the correlation analysis, the Pearson’s coefficient was less than 0.1. Therefore, it was concluded that ethnic diversity has an insignificant effect on the success of movies and the Fortune 500 companies.展开更多

With the economic development and multicultural exchange of ethnic villages,more and more ethnic villages have embarked on the road of tourism to become rich,but also brought the problem of ecological pollution.Few ex...With the economic development and multicultural exchange of ethnic villages,more and more ethnic villages have embarked on the road of tourism to become rich,but also brought the problem of ecological pollution.Few existing literatures discuss how to alleviate the ecological pollution in ethnic villages from the perspective of tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.In the context of ethnic villages,from the perspective of integration and the attitude-context-behavior theory,this paper constructs an EV-ABC-TERB model with four variables,namely environmental attitude,local atmosphere,emotional experience and tourists’environmentally responsible behavior,to explore the characteristics,influencing factors and influencing mechanism of tourists’environmental responsibility behavior in ethnic villages.Taking Xijiang Hmong Village as the research case,questionnaire survey method and structural equation model method were used.The results show that environmental attitude positively affects emotional experience and tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.Local atmosphere positively influences tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.Emotional experience negatively affects tourists’environmentally responsible behavior and plays an intermediary role in the way that environmental attitudes affect tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.The influence of environmental attitude on emotional experience is negatively regulated by local atmosphere.Finally,based on the analysis conclusion,it provides new ideas and inspiration for the sustainable development of the ethnic village tourism.展开更多

They are time-honored with many types such as the “Fang” chess of the Hui ethnic group, the “Jiu” chess of the Tibetans, the “King and Ministers” chess, the Mongolian chess, the Mongolian military chess, etc. These games embody distinctive ethnic and regional characteristics, as well as the cultural elements of a particular ethnic minority group. It is of great significance, therefore, to study the ethnic chess by collecting, documenting and comparing different types of related chess. Compounds 1-3 are isolated from genus Laportea for the first time. Compound 3 is a new compound. [Conclusions] This study lays a foundation for improving the quality standard of L. bulbifera and the development and utilization of its resources.

文摘Drawing on our research in China’s southern mountains about ethnic medicines,and intrigued by the proverbial Chinese view that Yao Shi Tong Yuan(food and medicine have the same source),this article traces the eventfulness and powers at play in healing and eating when they are seen as closely related forms of life.Ancient and modern traditional Chinese medicine understandings of flavor are here shown to be a common basis for the healing and harming powers of both food and medicine.The term Wu Wei,or five flavors is explored as both experiences of eating and cooking,and some patterns of qi movement that animate and invigorate the body.Following Vivienne Lo’s term“potent flavors,”practices of harmonizing(He,Tiao He)flavors in Chinese medicine,as in cooking,express a world of natural powers and expert embodiment that goes far beyond mere taste.

文摘Low fertility and population aging are important factors affecting economic and social development.From 2000 to 2020,the development of low fertility in ethnic minority areas shows three trends of accelerated declining,slow declining and first falling and then rising,which are the results of the balance between the inhibiting effect of controlling birth policy and the rapidly rising birth cost,and the promoting effect of encouraging birth policy on the fertility desire of social members.The development of aging in ethnic minority areas shows two trends of acceleration and deceleration,which are the results of the balance between the promoting effect of controlling birth policy,the outflow of young and middle-aged labor force and the rise of life expectancy,and the inhibiting effect of the encouraging birth policy,the restraint of talent return and talent introduction.Combined with the development degree of low fertility and aging,we can accurately classify and implement policies for different ethnic minority areas.The areas with serious low fertility and population aging problems need economic policies to change the population age structure as soon as possible.The areas with slight low fertility and population aging problems should carry out ideological policies in priority to maintain the benign structure of population age.
文摘In contemporary workplace, organizations are emphasizing on individual’s diversity and inclusion initiatives in order to reinforce managerial adaptability, increase competitive advantage and decrease legal risks. Nonetheless, in recent times, there has arisen a debate on whether diversity is a variable that has an immediate effect on success or not. This study focused on determining if diversity in terms of ethnicity, gender, age, etc., has effects on success, by investigating two different data sets;the first one is a massive repository of movies data set and actors to determine if there is a correlation between multiple movie related variables and box office earnings. While the second data focused on Fortunes top 500 companies in the United States (US) vs. 500 less profitable companies in the US. Moreover, the study explores how diversity among Board of Directors (BOD) of fortune 500 companies affects the net sales and gross profits. The movie data set was collected from two main websites;Internet Movie Database (IMDB) and Rotten Tomatoes (RT), the imdb data set contained 107,645 records, while as the rotten tomatoes contained 13,904 records. In addition, information about Fortunes 500 companies was obtained from various websites manually, as immediate data sets were hard to find since it’s the first study that focuses on diversity and success of fortune companies. The data set contained data of fortunes top 500 companies with information of all of its BOD about 5358 records, and less profitable companies of 4434 records. The reason in which these data sets were chosen was to study the ethnic diversity factor and its impact on success rate, and also due to the fact that IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes are the most recognized websites that provide access to a massive repository of movie data sets. While the fortune company’s data set was chosen to demonstrate diversity in the chosen dataset where one was for movies and the other was enterprise based. Furthermore, the data was analyzed in python to establish the relationship between the various variables. In all of the correlation analysis, the Pearson’s coefficient was less than 0.1. Therefore, it was concluded that ethnic diversity has an insignificant effect on the success of movies and the Fortune 500 companies.
文摘In a broad sense, ethnic medicine includes Han traditional Chinese medicine, folk medicine and ethnic minority medicine;ethnic medicine in a narrow sense refers to ethnic minority medicine. It is a medicine developed by ethnic minorities in order to survive and reproduce and in the process of fighting diseases. Culture, based on its own language, life experience and cultural traditions, has its own understanding and theoretical system of disease naming, etiology and pathogenesis, treatment principles and treatment methods, which is a major feature of my country’s medical care. Among them, ethnic medicine has unique advantages and good clinical efficacy in the prevention and treatment of cholelithiasis. Therefore, this paper focuses on summarizing the characteristic theories and diagnosis and treatment experience of Tibetan medicine, Mongolian medicine, Miao medicine, Yao medicine, and Beijing medicine in ethnic medicine by sorting out and summarizing the relevant materials in this regard, so as to provide new ideas for improving the treatment of cholelithiasis and enriching clinical drug selection.
文摘With the economic development and multicultural exchange of ethnic villages,more and more ethnic villages have embarked on the road of tourism to become rich,but also brought the problem of ecological pollution.Few existing literatures discuss how to alleviate the ecological pollution in ethnic villages from the perspective of tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.In the context of ethnic villages,from the perspective of integration and the attitude-context-behavior theory,this paper constructs an EV-ABC-TERB model with four variables,namely environmental attitude,local atmosphere,emotional experience and tourists’environmentally responsible behavior,to explore the characteristics,influencing factors and influencing mechanism of tourists’environmental responsibility behavior in ethnic villages.Taking Xijiang Hmong Village as the research case,questionnaire survey method and structural equation model method were used.The results show that environmental attitude positively affects emotional experience and tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.Local atmosphere positively influences tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.Emotional experience negatively affects tourists’environmentally responsible behavior and plays an intermediary role in the way that environmental attitudes affect tourists’environmentally responsible behavior.The influence of environmental attitude on emotional experience is negatively regulated by local atmosphere.Finally,based on the analysis conclusion,it provides new ideas and inspiration for the sustainable development of the ethnic village tourism.
文摘As a region inhabited by large populations of ethnic minority groups, Gansu province boasts rich ethnic cultural resources which reflect traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage that had taken shape thousands of years ago. Among these are various ethnic folk chess games. They are time-honored with many types such as the “Fang” chess of the Hui ethnic group, the “Jiu” chess of the Tibetans, the “King and Ministers” chess, the Mongolian chess, the Mongolian military chess, etc. These games embody distinctive ethnic and regional characteristics, as well as the cultural elements of a particular ethnic minority group. It is of great significance, therefore, to study the ethnic chess by collecting, documenting and comparing different types of related chess. The paper explores ways to standardize, protect and promote them scientifically in joint efforts, and draws a conclusion that examining their significance in the present era and the ethnic characteristics is the key to understanding the profound culture behind the chess.

文摘Gaokao has been considered as the gatekeeper of intergenerational class reproduction in today’s slowing social mobility in China.In order to bolster the fairness of Gaokao,the Policy of Bonus Scores for Ethnic Minority Candidates(PBSEMC)has been issued,whose,however,effectiveness in promoting upward social class has not been adequately empirically explored.The difference-in-differences(DID)analysis based on cross-sectional data,which is distinct from the traditional DID analysis paradigm,was implemented to assess the Reform of PBSEMC in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1988.The results showed that PBSEMC had a significant and positive impact on the social classes of ethnic minorities,and gender,residence type and occupation type were also relevant to social class,aligning with the previous literature.The PBSEMC is effective in improving the social classes of ethnic minorities.However,the PBSEMC policy should be made more precise,in order to benefit the candidates who are in genuine need of assistance.

文摘during the different periods of revolution,construction,and reform,under the pattern of unity in diversity,the Communist Party of China has recognized and respected ethnic cultural differences,taken ethnic equality as the moral foundation for ethnic minority rights,ethnic fraternity as the ethical foundation of ethnic minority rights,and regarded ethnic minority rights as an important part of China’s human rights cause.Protecting ethnic minority rights through regional ethnic autonomy and ethnic support policies has not only proved to be an effective way to protect ethnic minority rights but also built up rich and profound ideolog ical resources for respecting and protecting ethnic minority rights.
