For this purpose, a Sprint Z3 model is used as a case study to illustrate the process of joint reaction analysis. The substructure synthesis method is applied to deriving an analytical elastodynamic model for the 3-PRS PKM device, in which the compliances of limbs and joints are considered. Each limb assembly is modeled as a spatial beam with non-uniform cross-section supported by lumped virtual springs at the centers of revolute and spherical joints. By introducing the deformation compatibility conditions between the limbs and the platform, the governing equations of motion of the system are obtained. After degenerating the governing equations into quasi-static equations, the effects of the gravity on system deflections and joint reactions are investigated with the purpose of providing useful information for the kinematic calibration and component strength calculations as well as structural optimizations of the 3-PRS PKM module. The simulation results indicate that the elastic deformation of the moving platform in the direction of gravity caused by gravity is quite large and cannot be ignored. Meanwhile, the distributions of joint reactions are axisymmetric and position-dependent. It is worthy to note that the proposed elastodynamic modeling method combines the benefits of accuracy of finite element method and concision of analytical method so that it can be used to predict the stiffness characteristics and joint reactions of a PKM throughout its entire workspace in a quick and accurate manner. Moreover, the present model can also be easily applied to evaluating the overall rigidity performance as well as statics of other PKMs with high efficiency after minor modifications.展开更多

Firstly, a new dependent variable is introduced to rewrite the governing equation, the boundary conditions and the initial conditions. Secondly, a special function is introduced to transform the inhomogeneous boundary conditions to homogeneous ones. By virtue of the orthogonal expansion technique, the equation with respect to the time variable is derived, of which the solution can be obtained. The displacement solution is finally obtained, which can be degenerated in a rather straightforward way into the solution for a homogeneous orthotropic hollow cylinder and isotropic solid cylinder as well as that for a non-homogeneous isotropic hollow cylinder. Using the present method, integral transform can be avoided and it can be used for hollow cylinders with arbitrary thickness and subjected to arbitrary dynamic loads. Numerical results are presented for a non-homogeneous orthotropic hollow cylinder subjected to dynamic internal pressure.展开更多

The number of boundary conditions, to be prescribed at the boundary x = 0,depends on the number of characteristics entering the domain. Because our system is nonlinear, the characteristic speeds depends on the unknown and the direction of the characteristics curves are known apriori. As it is well known, the boundary condition has to be understood in a generalised way. One of the standard way is using vanishing viscosity method. We use this method to construct solution for a particular class of initial and boundary data, namely the initial and boundary datas that lie on the level sets of one of the Riemann invariants.展开更多

Certain physical problems are of the nature, in which the deformation takes place only in one direction, e.g., the problem relating to deformed structures and columns. In soil mechanics, an assumption of only vertical subsidence is often invoked and this leads to the one dimensional model of poroelasticity. By consid- ering a model of one-dimensional deformation of the anisotropic liquid-saturated porous medium, variations in disturbances are observed with reference to time and distance. The distributions of displacements and stresses are affected due to the anisotropy of the medium, and also due to the type of sources causing the disturbances.展开更多

Hence, an accumulated error will be definitely introduced after such integration. This paper presents a novel time-domain-advance integration method for transient elastodynamic problems in which the exact initial conditions are strictly satisfied for the solutions for each time step. In this way, the accumu- lated error can be eliminated and the approximate solutions will converge to the exact ones uniformly on the whole time domain. Therefore. the new method is more accurate. When applying to a structural dynamic problem, the present mehtod does not have to use the initial acceleration as is required by most other algorithms and the corresponding computation can be avoided. The present method is simple in representation, easy to be programmed, and especially suitable for accurate analyses of long-time problems. The comparison of numerical results with exact ones shows that the present method is much more accurate than some most widely used algorithms.展开更多

The material properties, except Poisson's ratio, are assumed to vary through the thickness according to a power law function. To achieve an exact solution, the dynamic radial displacement is divided into two quasi-static and dynamic parts, and for each part, an analytical solution is derived. The quasi-static solution is obtained by means of Euler's equation, and the dynamic solution is derived using the method of the separation of variables and the orthogonal expansion technique. The radial displacement and stress distributions are plotted for various functionally graded material (FGM) hollow cylinders under different dynamic loads, and the advantages of the presented method are discussed. The proposed analytical solution is suitable for analyzing various arrangements of hollow FGM cylinders with arbitrary thickness and arbitrary initial conditions, which are subjected to arbitrary forms of dynamic pressures distributed uniformly on their boundary surfaces.展开更多

The basic solution of the elastodynamic problem is decomposed into a quasi-static solution satisfying the inhomogeneous compound boundary conditions and a dynamic solution satisfying the homogeneous compound boundary conditions. By utilizing the variable transform, the dynamic equation may be transformed into Bassel equation.
