There were important doctors in each dynasty who devoted themselves to the study and practice of external medicine. In TCM external medicine, diseases are named either according to their location (such as neck abscess and back carbuncle), or viscera involved (such as intestinal abscess and lung abscess), or causes (such as tetanus and chilblain, which are literally known respectively as wind damage of wound and sore caused by cold in TCM), or shape (such as snake head boil and goose web wind), or the color (such as erysipelas and vitiligo which are literally known respectively as red toxin and white skin wind), etc.展开更多

文摘Jiu Ai Tu(The Moxa Treatment)from the Song dynasty is the earliest surviving painting that focuses on the subject of acupuncture and moxibustion. This paper takes the medical activities depicted in the artwork as its research object and systematically analyzes the external treatment methods for abscesses during the Song dynasty reflected in Jiu Ai Tu.By examining the understanding of abscesses during that period, the paper explores the level of development in external medicine techniques.By analyzing the medical awareness and behaviors of patients when facing such severe illnesses,it aims to explore the societal cognition and experiences regarding health and disease. The paper attempts to present the folk medical ecology of the Song dynasty represented by Jiu Ai Tu.
文摘Background:Myopia is a common refractive error that is increasingly prevalent amongst young individuals.Preventing and controlling myopia is crucial due to its association with several complications such as myopic macular degeneration, glaucoma, and retinal detachment. Objective:The aim of this study is to systematically evaluate the efficacy of external Chinese medicine therapies in the treatment of adolescent myopia. Methods:We performed a systematic search of the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),PubMed,the Cochrane Library,Science Direct,WanFang, the Weipu Database(VIP),China Biology Medicine(CMB),Web of Science(WOS),Medline,Clinical Trials, the Chinese Science Citation Database(CSCD),and the Bailian Yun Library databases from January 2012 to December 2022 to identify the randomized control trials(RCTs)that compared traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)external therapies with conventional therapies for the treatment of juvenile myopia. Two independent reviewers conducted the screening process, data extraction, and quality assessment.A meta-analysis was then conducted. Results:A total of 1735 relevant articles were retrieved. We included 38 RCTs involving 3680 patients and 7250 eyes that used TCM external therapies for the intervention of juvenile myopia. The results of the metaanalysis showed that the efficacy of TCM external therapies in preventing and controlling myopia was statistically significant compared with conventional therapies[odds ratio(OR)=3.72,95%CI(2.87,4.83),P<0.01],and a funnel plot showed the basic symmetry. The meta-analysis results showed that compared with conventional therapies,TCM external therapies had statistically significant effects on the spherical equivalent[weighted mean difference(WMD)=0.22,95%CI(0.16,0.27),P<0.01],visual acuity[WMD=0.09,95%CI(0.07,0.12),P<0.01],and axial length[standardized mean difference(SMD)=0.19,95%CI(0.07,0.31),P<0.01].Conclusion:Results showed that TCM external therapies can be an effective intervention in preventing and controlling adolescent myopia. However, more large-scale,multicenter,double-blind,and long-term RCTs are needed to validate these results.

文摘Background:The incidence of obesity is increasing each year, and is often accompanied by multi-system metabolic disorders, typically chronic diseases and multi-disease superposition disease states.Metabolic surgery is an important treatment option for patients with extreme obesity;however, surgical difficulties and perioperative complications are more serious in these patients. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a new comprehensive diagnosis and treatment model to reduce the weight of patients prior to surgery, subsequently reducing the risks of surgery.Case summary:This model combines traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),external TCM treatment, and health management with western technique of metabolic surgery.Obesity is recognized and treated by multidisciplinary,multi-channel,and multi-means,constituting an innovative diagnosis and treatment model of obesity in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine. The application of this model in the treatment of a patient with extreme obesity having multiple systemic diseases is described herein. Conclusion:The integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine obesity diagnosis and treatment model can be used for precise syndrome differentiation, individualized treatment, and follow-up management of patients with extreme obesity, with strong scalability and significant clinical efficacy.
