Due to the heterogeneity of the materials, it is challenging to use the traditional finite element method (FEM) for mechanical analysis. Additionally, the MEE materials are often in a complex service environment, especially under the influence of the thermal field with thermoelectric and thermomagnetic effects, which affect its mechanical properties. Therefore, this paper proposes the efficient multiscale computational method for the multifield coupling problem of heterogeneous MEE structures under the thermal environment. The method constructs a multi-physics field with numerical base functions (the displacement, electric potential, and magnetic potential multiscale base functions). It equates a single cell of heterogeneous MEE materials to a macroscopic unit and supplements the macroscopic model with a microscopic model. This allows the problem to be solved directly on a macroscopic scale. Finally, the numerical simulation results demonstrate that compared with the traditional FEM, the multiscale finite element method (MsFEM) can achieve the purpose of ensuring accuracy and reducing the degree of freedom, and significantly improving the calculation efficiency.展开更多
Rail vehicles generate huge longitudinal impact loads in collisions.If unreasonable matching exists between the compressive strength of the intermediate coupler and the structural strength of the car body,the risk of ...Rail vehicles generate huge longitudinal impact loads in collisions.If unreasonable matching exists between the compressive strength of the intermediate coupler and the structural strength of the car body,the risk of car body structure damage and train derailment will increase.Herein,a four-stage rigid-flexible coupling finite element model of the coupler is established considering the coupler buckling load.The influence of the coupler buckling load on the train longitudinal-vertical-hori-zontal buckling behavior was studied,and the mechanism of the train horizontal buckling instability in train collisions was revealed.Analysis results show that an intermediate coupler should be designed to ensure that the actual buckling load is less than the compressive load when the car body structure begins to deform plastically.The actual buckling load of the coupler and the asymmetry of the structural strength of the car body in the lateral direction are two important influencing factors for the lateral buckling of a train collision.If the strength of the two sides of the car body structure in the lateral direction is asymmetrical,the deformation on the weaker side will be larger,and the end of the car body will begin to deflect under the action of the coupler force,which in turn causes the train to undergo sawtooth buckling.展开更多

The numerical modeling composes of finite element equations for three sub-systems of magnetic, thermal and deformation fields, as well as iterative methods for nonlinearities of the geometrical large-deflection and the multi-field coupling of the ferromagnetic shell. As examples, the numerical simulations on magneto-elastic behaviors of a ferromagnetic cylindrical shell in an applied magnetic field, and magneto-thermo-elastic behaviors of the shell in applied magnetic and thermal fields are carried out. However, the anisotropy arising from these materials adds a significant degree of c...Beams and plates manufactured from laminates of composite materials have distinct advantages in a significant number of applications. However, the anisotropy arising from these materials adds a significant degree of complexity, and thus time, to the stress and deformation analyses of such components, even using numerical approaches such as finite elements. The analysis of composite laminate beams subjected to uniform extension, bending, and/or twisting loads was performed by a novel implementation of the usual finite element method. Due to the symmetric features of the deformations, only a thin slice of the beam to be analysed needs to be modelled. Conventional threedimensional solid finite elements were used for the structural discretization. The accurate deformation relationships were formulated and implemented through the coupling of nodal translational degrees of freedom in the numerical analysis. A sample solution for a rectangular composite laminate beam is presented to show the validity and accuracy of the proposed method.展开更多

The original problem was restored with continuity and equilibrium conditions being satisfied on the interface of the two sub-regions using an iterative algorithm. To speed up the convergence rate of the iterative algorithm, a dynamically changing relaxation parameter during iteration was introduced. An advantage of the proposed algorithm is that the locations of the nodes on the interface of the two sub-domains can be inconsistent. The validity of the algorithm is demonstrated by the consistence of the results of a numerical example obtained by the proposed method and those by the FEM, the BEM and a present finite element-boundary element (FE-BE) coupling method.展开更多

This method is a very effective one with the characteristic of high calculating speed and small memory needed because the formulae for this explicit finite element method have the characteristic of decoupling, and which does not need to solve sys-tem of linear equations. The method is applied to analyze the dynamic response of a reservoir with considering the dynamic interactions among water, dam, sediment and basement rock. The frictional contact between sheet metal and flexible-die was treated by the penalty function method. The sheet elastic flexible-die bulging process was analyzed with the FEM-EFGM program for coupled deformation between sheet metal and bulk flexible-die, called CDSB-FEM-EFGM for short. Compared with finite element code DEFORM-2D and experiment results, the CDSB-FEM-EFGM program is feasible. This method provides a suitable numerical method to analyze sheet flexible-die forming.展开更多

Effects caused by the ferromagnetic shell, busbar system around, and open boundary problem as well as inside induced current were considered in terms of the magnetic field. Furthermore, a new modeling method is found to set up solid models and then mesh them entirely with so-called structuralized grids, namely hex-mesh. Examples of 75kA prebaked cell with two kinds of busbar arrangements are presented. Results agree with those disclosed in the literature and confirm that the coupled simulation is valid. It is also concluded that the usage of these models facilitates the consistent analysis of the electric field to magnetic field and then flow motion to the greater extent, local distributions of current density and magnetic flux density are very much dependent on the cell structure, the steel shell is a shield to reduce the magnetic field and flow pattern is two dimensional in the main body of the metal pad.展开更多

Then based on the thermal results a sequential coupled thermo-elastic-plastic analysis is conducted to determine the mechanical features of the RSW process. The thermal history of the whole process and the temperature distribution of the weldment are obtained through the analysis. A complete model of EMATs i...This paper presents an analytical method for electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) under voltage excitation and considers the non-uniform distribution of the biased magnetic field. A complete model of EMATs including the non-uniform biased magnetic field, a pulsed eddy current field and the acoustic field is built up. The pulsed voltage excitation is transformed to the frequency domain by fast Fourier transformation (FFT). In terms of the time harmonic field equations of the EMAT system, the impedances of the coils under different frequencies are calculated according to the circuit-field coupling method and Poynting's theorem. Then the currents under different frequencies are calculated according to Ohm's law and the pulsed current excitation is obtained by inverse fast Fourier transformation (IFFT). Lastly, the sequentially coupled finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the Lorentz force in the EMATs under the current excitation. An actual EMAT with a two-layer two-bundle printed circuit board (PCB) coil, a rectangular permanent magnet and an aluminium specimen is analysed. The coil impedances and the pulsed current are calculated and compared with the experimental results. Their agreement verified the validity of the proposed method. Furthermore, the influences of lift-off distances and the non-uniform static magnetic field on the Lorentz force under pulsed voltage excitation are studied.展开更多

In this approach, the coupled heat transfer and water flow in frozen soils are simulated first, and based on the computed thermal-hydro field, the stability of frozen soil slope is evaluated. Although the shear strength for frozen soil is very complicated and is usually represented by a nonlinear MC failure criterion, a simple linear MC yield criterion is utilized. In this method, the internal friction angle is expressed as a function of volumetric ice content and the cohesion is fitted as a simple bilinear expression of Tand volumetric water content. To assess slope stability, the limit analysis is employed in conjunction with the recently developed a-section search algorithm. A frozen soil slope example is used to examine the proposed pseudo-coupled numerical approach, and numerical studies validate its effectiveness. Based on numerical results, it is seen that slope stability may be remarkably influenced by warming air (or grotmd surface) temperature. With increasing ground surface temperature, slope stability indicated by FOS may reduce to 1.0, implying that wanning air temperature could be a trigger of frozen soil slope failure.展开更多

The models were interactively solved by using the numerical method(the finite element method and the finite difference method). By matching the theoretical calculation to an experiment, the nonlinear problem was analyzed and the variable thermophysical parameters concerned was evaluated. The analysis procedure and the evaluation of the parameters were presented in detail. The result of the study showed that by using the method as described in the paper, it was possible to determine the variable (with respect to temperature, moisture content and freezing state) thermophysical parameters which were unknown or difficult to measure as long as the governing equations for a considered process were available. The method can significantly reduces the experiment efforts for determining thermophysical parameters which arc very complicated to measure. The determined variable of the effective heat conductivity of wood particle material was given in the paper. The error of the numerical calculation was also estimated by the comparison with a matched experiment.展开更多

Fluid field is changed under the exciting of rotor vibration. On the same ti me, a net force caused by fluid pressure exerts on rotor, which will change roto r vibration. So, the fluid-solid coupled analysis method must be used. Traditionally, numerical difference method was used to solve fluid problems. The coupled fluid-solid equation could not be set up based on the method. It is no t until finite element method was used in fluid dynamics area then can the coupl ed dynamics be researched. Recently many experimental, analytical and numerical studies have been used in the area . But in these investigations, it is a ssumed that the solid vibration could not be influenced by fluid. In the other w ords, the force exerted on solid from fluid was neglected in the papers. So, the models built were some kinds of semi-coupled model only. In this paper, the Galerkin finite-element method, two-dimension vibration equ ation of rigid body and Navier-Stokes equations are used to build a full-coupl ed fluid-solid model in rotor-bearing system. Some assumptions are taken: 1) In fluid equation, the nonlinear terms are relatively small and neglected. 2) The gravity takes no effect on this system. 3) The bearing and the rotor are long. Flow and leakage along the axis is neglec ted. 4) The fluid is a kind of Newtonian incondensable viscous fluid. 5) The rotor is considered to be a rigid body. Using the model established, we calculated all the examples given by paper , results show the error are less than 7%. So the full-coupled model is built c orrectly. Examples are given in the end of the paper. After analyzing the examples, we get some conclusions: 1) In rotor-bearing system, while being taken under two conditions that whether coupled method is taken or not, difference of pressure and vibration amplitude could reach 76% and 120%. Therefore coupled method must be taken to investigate fluid-solid system. 1) Amplitude of fluid pressure can be more or less influenced by rotor unbalance , gap, eccentricity and other factors. 2) By using coupling method, results show that the amplitudes of vibration and p ressure are greater than ignoring the method. Flows are governed by the Stokes and Darcy equations, respectively, and the corresponding transmission conditions are given by mass conservation, balance of normal forces, and the Beavers-Joseph-Saffman law. The approach utilizes a modification of the Darcy problem which allows us to apply a variant nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart finite element to the whole coupled Stokes-Darcy problem. The well-posedness of the finite element scheme and its convergence analysis are derived. Finally, the numerical experiments are presented, which confirm the excellent stability and accuracy of our method.展开更多

文摘Chemo-mechanical coupling behavior of materials is a transformation process between mechanical and chemical energy.In this paper,based on the coupled chemo-mechanical constitutive equations and governing equations during isothermal process,the equivalent integral forms of chemo-mechanical coupling governing equations and corresponding finite element procedure are obtained by using Hamilton’s principle.An isoparametric plane element for chemo-mechanical coupling is associated into ABAQUS finite element package through user element subroutine UEL.The numerical examples exhibit that the ionic concentration variation can cause mechanical deformation and mechanical action can produce redistribution of ionic concentration for hydrogels.It is proved that the present developed chemo-mechanical coupling finite element procedure can be utilized to model the coupling behavior of hydrogels effectively.

文摘In this paper, an explicit finite element method to analyze the dynamic responses of three-medium coupled systems with any terrain is developed on the basis of the numerical simulation of the continuous conditions on the bounda-ries among fluid saturated porous medium, elastic single-phase medium and ideal fluid medium. This method is a very effective one with the characteristic of high calculating speed and small memory needed because the formulae for this explicit finite element method have the characteristic of decoupling, and which does not need to solve sys-tem of linear equations. The method is applied to analyze the dynamic response of a reservoir with considering the dynamic interactions among water, dam, sediment and basement rock. The vertical displacement at the top point of the dam is calculated and some conclusions are given.

文摘A numerical method for coupled deformation between sheet metal and flexible-die was proposed. Based on the updated Lagrangian (UL) formulation, the elastoplastic deformation of sheet metal was analyzed with finite element method (FEM) and the bulk deformation of flexible-die was analyzed with element-free Galerkin method (EFGM). The frictional contact between sheet metal and flexible-die was treated by the penalty function method. The sheet elastic flexible-die bulging process was analyzed with the FEM-EFGM program for coupled deformation between sheet metal and bulk flexible-die, called CDSB-FEM-EFGM for short. Compared with finite element code DEFORM-2D and experiment results, the CDSB-FEM-EFGM program is feasible. This method provides a suitable numerical method to analyze sheet flexible-die forming.
文摘This work deals with the analysis of soil-structure interaction modeling of pipeline problems in static behavior using the coupling between FEM (finite element method) and BEM (boundary element method). The representation of the pipe is made by MEF using one fmite element in the cylindrical panel formulated from the theory of equivalent discrete layers (Layerwise theory), proposed by J. N. Reddy. The soil is represented by elastic continum infimite or semi-infinite and modeled using boundary elements with special curved surface, associated with cylindrical panel used to represent the soil-structure interaction within the soil, especially at the contact surface with the pipe.

文摘Two full 3D steady mathematical models are developed by finite element method (FEM) to calcalate coupled physics fields. the electro-magnetic model is built and solved first and so is the fluid motion model with the acquired electromagnetic force as source body forces in Navier-Stokes equations. Effects caused by the ferromagnetic shell, busbar system around, and open boundary problem as well as inside induced current were considered in terms of the magnetic field. Furthermore, a new modeling method is found to set up solid models and then mesh them entirely with so-called structuralized grids, namely hex-mesh. Examples of 75kA prebaked cell with two kinds of busbar arrangements are presented. Results agree with those disclosed in the literature and confirm that the coupled simulation is valid. It is also concluded that the usage of these models facilitates the consistent analysis of the electric field to magnetic field and then flow motion to the greater extent, local distributions of current density and magnetic flux density are very much dependent on the cell structure, the steel shell is a shield to reduce the magnetic field and flow pattern is two dimensional in the main body of the metal pad.
文摘A two-dimensional axisymmetric finite element model is developed to analyze the transient thermal and mechanical behaviors of the Resistance Spot Welding (RSW) process using commercial software ANSYS. Firstly a direct-coupled electrical-thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is performed to analyze the transient thermal characteristics of the RSW process. Then based on the thermal results a sequential coupled thermo-elastic-plastic analysis is conducted to determine the mechanical features of the RSW process. The thermal history of the whole process and the temperature distribution of the weldment are obtained through the analysis. The mechanical features, including the distributions of the contact pressure at both the faying surface and the electrode-workpiece interface, the stress and strain distributions in the weldment and their changes during the RSW process, the deformation of the weldment and the electrode displacement are also calculated.

文摘This paper presents an analytical method for electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) under voltage excitation and considers the non-uniform distribution of the biased magnetic field. A complete model of EMATs including the non-uniform biased magnetic field, a pulsed eddy current field and the acoustic field is built up. The pulsed voltage excitation is transformed to the frequency domain by fast Fourier transformation (FFT). In terms of the time harmonic field equations of the EMAT system, the impedances of the coils under different frequencies are calculated according to the circuit-field coupling method and Poynting's theorem. Then the currents under different frequencies are calculated according to Ohm's law and the pulsed current excitation is obtained by inverse fast Fourier transformation (IFFT). Lastly, the sequentially coupled finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the Lorentz force in the EMATs under the current excitation. An actual EMAT with a two-layer two-bundle printed circuit board (PCB) coil, a rectangular permanent magnet and an aluminium specimen is analysed. The coil impedances and the pulsed current are calculated and compared with the experimental results. Their agreement verified the validity of the proposed method. Furthermore, the influences of lift-off distances and the non-uniform static magnetic field on the Lorentz force under pulsed voltage excitation are studied.

文摘To simplify the stability analysis of frozen soil slope, a pseudo-coupled numerical approach is developed. In this approach, the coupled heat transfer and water flow in frozen soils are simulated first, and based on the computed thermal-hydro field, the stability of frozen soil slope is evaluated. Although the shear strength for frozen soil is very complicated and is usually represented by a nonlinear MC failure criterion, a simple linear MC yield criterion is utilized. In this method, the internal friction angle is expressed as a function of volumetric ice content and the cohesion is fitted as a simple bilinear expression of Tand volumetric water content. To assess slope stability, the limit analysis is employed in conjunction with the recently developed a-section search algorithm. A frozen soil slope example is used to examine the proposed pseudo-coupled numerical approach, and numerical studies validate its effectiveness. Based on numerical results, it is seen that slope stability may be remarkably influenced by warming air (or grotmd surface) temperature. With increasing ground surface temperature, slope stability indicated by FOS may reduce to 1.0, implying that wanning air temperature could be a trigger of frozen soil slope failure.
文摘The coupled heat and moisture transfer in a freezing process of wood particle material was mathematically modeled in the paper. The models were interactively solved by using the numerical method(the finite element method and the finite difference method). By matching the theoretical calculation to an experiment, the nonlinear problem was analyzed and the variable thermophysical parameters concerned was evaluated. The analysis procedure and the evaluation of the parameters were presented in detail. The result of the study showed that by using the method as described in the paper, it was possible to determine the variable (with respect to temperature, moisture content and freezing state) thermophysical parameters which were unknown or difficult to measure as long as the governing equations for a considered process were available. The method can significantly reduces the experiment efforts for determining thermophysical parameters which arc very complicated to measure. The determined variable of the effective heat conductivity of wood particle material was given in the paper. The error of the numerical calculation was also estimated by the comparison with a matched experiment.
文摘Fluid-solid interaction problems have been studied q uite extensively in the past years. Rotor-bearing system is a typical example. Fluid field is changed under the exciting of rotor vibration. On the same ti me, a net force caused by fluid pressure exerts on rotor, which will change roto r vibration. So, the fluid-solid coupled analysis method must be used. Traditionally, numerical difference method was used to solve fluid problems. The coupled fluid-solid equation could not be set up based on the method. It is no t until finite element method was used in fluid dynamics area then can the coupl ed dynamics be researched. Recently many experimental, analytical and numerical studies have been used in the area . But in these investigations, it is a ssumed that the solid vibration could not be influenced by fluid. In the other w ords, the force exerted on solid from fluid was neglected in the papers. So, the models built were some kinds of semi-coupled model only. In this paper, the Galerkin finite-element method, two-dimension vibration equ ation of rigid body and Navier-Stokes equations are used to build a full-coupl ed fluid-solid model in rotor-bearing system. Some assumptions are taken: 1) In fluid equation, the nonlinear terms are relatively small and neglected. 2) The gravity takes no effect on this system. 3) The bearing and the rotor are long. Flow and leakage along the axis is neglec ted. 4) The fluid is a kind of Newtonian incondensable viscous fluid. 5) The rotor is considered to be a rigid body. Using the model established, we calculated all the examples given by paper , results show the error are less than 7%. So the full-coupled model is built c orrectly. Examples are given in the end of the paper. After analyzing the examples, we get some conclusions: 1) In rotor-bearing system, while being taken under two conditions that whether coupled method is taken or not, difference of pressure and vibration amplitude could reach 76% and 120%. Therefore coupled method must be taken to investigate fluid-solid system. 1) Amplitude of fluid pressure can be more or less influenced by rotor unbalance , gap, eccentricity and other factors. 2) By using coupling method, results show that the amplitudes of vibration and p ressure are greater than ignoring the method. 文摘In this paper, we develop an a-priori error analysis of a new unified mixed finite element method for the coupling of fluid flow with porous media flow in R<sup><em>N</em></sup>, <em>N</em> ∈ {2,3}, on isotropic meshes. Flows are governed by the Stokes and Darcy equations, respectively, and the corresponding transmission conditions are given by mass conservation, balance of normal forces, and the Beavers-Joseph-Saffman law. The approach utilizes a modification of the Darcy problem which allows us to apply a variant nonconforming Crouzeix-Raviart finite element to the whole coupled Stokes-Darcy problem. The well-posedness of the finite element scheme and its convergence analysis are derived. Finally, the numerical experiments are presented, which confirm the excellent stability and accuracy of our method.
文摘A mixed finite element solution of contact stresses in meshing gears is investigated with the consideration of coupled thermo-elastic deformation and impact behavior. A simulation procedure of finite element solution of meshing gears is developed. The versatility of the procedure for both numerical accuracy and computational efficiency is verified by numerical analysis of meshing gear teeth.
