Inflammation is a common disease involved in the pathogenesis,complications,and sequelae of a large number of related diseases,and therefore considerable research has been directed toward developing anti-inflammatory ...Inflammation is a common disease involved in the pathogenesis,complications,and sequelae of a large number of related diseases,and therefore considerable research has been directed toward developing anti-inflammatory drugs for the prevention and treatment of these diseases.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has been used to treat inflammatory and related diseases since ancient times.According to the re-view of abundant modern scientific researches,it is suggested that TCM exhibit anti-inflammatory effects at different levels,and via multiple pathways with various targets,and recently a series of in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory models have been developed for anti-inflammation research in TCM.Currently,the reported classic mechanisms of TCM and experimental models of its anti-inflammatory effects pro-vide reference points and guidance for further research and development of TCM.Importantly,the research clearly confirms that TCM is now and will continue to be an effective form of treatment for many types of inflammation and inflammation-related diseases.展开更多

Objective To investigate the levels of cardiovascular disease risk factors and their relations to clinical phenotype associated with coronary artery disease(CAD).Methods The subjects were recruited from five independe...Objective To investigate the levels of cardiovascular disease risk factors and their relations to clinical phenotype associated with coronary artery disease(CAD).Methods The subjects were recruited from five independent cardiovascular centers.Coronary angiography was employed to define the CAD with stenosis in each major vessel ≥70% and control with stenosis <10% in every lesion.The classic risk factors including family history,body mass index,smoking habits,hypertension,diabetes mellitus,and serum lipid levels were surveyed according to established criteria.Associations between risk levels and clinical phenotypes were assessed by case control and correlation analysis.Results A total of 762 individuals were collected,including 481 men and 281 women,aged from 17 to 81(mean 60±10) years.The patients with CAD accounted for 55.5% of all participants,and controls 44.5%,respectively.Compared with the pattern in published data,our study showed that mean serum high density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) level was significantly lower(P<0.001) and triglycerides was significantly higher(P<0.001),while total cholesterol(TC) and low density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were comparative(both P>0.05).The prevalence of low HDL-C(<40 g/L) and hypertriglyceridemia(>150 g/L) were 27.2% and 41.4%,respectively.Mean serum levels of HDL-C and apolipoprotein A1 were significantly higher in female subjects than in male(P<0.001).Lower HDL-C functioned as an independent risk factor for CAD only in men(RR=2.8,95%CI:1.5-4.2,P<0.001),yet increased non-HDL cholesterol combined with diabetes mellitus and obesity seemed to play a key role in the development ofCAD in women.Similarity in risk association with CAD was found for hypertension and TC/HDL ratio in male and female subjects,while family history had no relationship with the presence of CAD.Conclusion It is remarkable that emphasis of intervention in future should be given on the prevalent low serum HDL-C and its strong risk correlation with the presence of CAD in male subjects of Chinese Han population.展开更多

It is maintained that there are both similarities and obvious differences between it and western philology. The development of ancient Chinese linguistics from the Pre-Qin Period to the Qing Dynasty can be divided into five stages: the embryonic stage, the stage for laying the foundation, the preparatory stage, the stage of growth, and the stage of overall revival and prosperity. The literature produced during this period can be grouped in six categories: gloss exegesis, orthographical form and meaning, phonological form and meaning, historical phonology, grammar on function words, and rhetoric. It is pointed out that, in researching the theoretical history of ancient Chinese linguistics, great importance should be attached to the consistency between history and theoretical logic, cultural background as reference, and textual research methodology.展开更多
Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first inves...Previous studies on translations of Huangdi Neijing(The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Classic)have focused on English versions;little attention has been given to non-English translations.The present study is the first investigation of the reception of the seven Spanish versions of Huangdi Neijing in terms of three parameters:collection records in libraries worldwide;book reviews and citation counts in international journals;and customer reviews on Amazon.The results revealed four features of Spanish translations and communication of Huangdi Neijing in terms of reception of academia,reception of general readers,the center of translation and communication,and the role of Chinese scholars.These factors demonstrate the marginal status of Spanish translations of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics.The implications are summarized in hopes of promoting the translation and communication of TCM classics in the Spanish-speaking world and to provide insights into the communication of TCM culture in the non-English-speaking world.展开更多
