A silylated melamine sponge(SMS)was prepared by two simple steps,namely,immersion and dehydration of a melamine sponge coated with methyltrichlorosilane.The silylated structure of SMS was characterized by FT-IR(Fourier-transform infrared)spectroscopy,SEM(Scanning electron microscopy)and in terms of water contact angles.Its oil-water absorption and separation capacities were measured by FT-IR and UV-visible spectrophoto-metry.The experimental results have shown that oligomeric silanol covalently bonds by Si-N onto the surface of melamine sponge skeletons.SMS has shown superhydrophobicity with a water contact angle exceeding 150°±1°,a better separation efficiency with regard to diesel oil(by 99.31%(wt/wt%)in oil-water mixture and even up to 99.99%(wt/wt%)for diesel oil in its saturated aqueous solution.Moreover,SMS inherited the intrinsicflame retardancy of the melamine sponge.In general,SMS has shown superhydrophobicity,high porosity,excellent selectivity,remarkable recyclability,and better absorption capacity for various oils and organic solvents,and a high separation efficiency for oil in saturated aqueous solutions. 展开更多

The development of multifunctional and efficient electromagnetic wave absorbing materials is a challenging research hotspot.Here,the magnetized Ni flower/MXene hybrids are successfully assembled on the surface of melamine foam(MF)through electrostatic self-assembly and dip-coating adsorption process,realizing the integration of microwave absorption,infrared stealth,and flame retardant.Remarkably,the Ni/MXene-MF achieves a minimum reflection loss(RLmin)of−62.7 dB with a corresponding effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 6.24 GHz at 2 mm and an EAB of 6.88 GHz at 1.8 mm.Strong electromagnetic wave absorption is attributed to the three-dimensional magnetic/conductive networks,which provided excellent impedance matching,dielectric loss,magnetic loss,interface polarization,and multiple attenuations.In addition,the Ni/MXene-MF endows low density,excellent heat insulation,infrared stealth,and flame-retardant functions.This work provided a new development strategy for the design of multifunctional and efficient electromagnetic wave absorbing materials. 展开更多

Surface electropositivity and low internal resistance are important factors to improve the anode performance in microbial fuel cells(MFCs). Nitrogen doping is an effective way for the modification of traditional carbon materials. In this work, heat treatment and melamine were used to modify carbon felts to enhance electrogenesis capacity of MFCs. The modified carbon felts were characterized using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), scanning electron microscope(SEM), atomic force microscopy(AFM)and malvern zeta potentiometer. Results show that the maximum power densities under heat treatment increase from 276.1 to 423.4 m W/m^2(700 °C) and 461.5 m W/m^2(1200 °C) and further increase to472.5 m W/m^2(700 °C) and 515.4 m W/m^2(1200 °C) with the co-carbonization modification of melamine.The heat treatment reduces the material resistivity, improves the zeta potential which is beneficial to microbial adsorption and electron transfer. The addition of melamine leads to the higher content of surface pyridinic and quaternary nitrogen and higher zeta potential. It is related to higher MFCs performance. Generally, the melamine modification at high temperature increases the feasibility of carbon felt as MFCs' s anode materials. 展开更多

A general and versatile strategy to prepare melamine-formaldehyde(MF)microcapsules encapsulating oil-based fragrances by combining solvent evaporation and in situ polymerization was proposed in this work.The oil-based fragrance was pre-encapsulated by an inner polyacrylate membrane via solvent evaporation,followed by in situ polymerization of MF precondensates as an outer shell.The polyacrylate membrane is used as an intermediate bridging layer to stabilize the oil-based fragrance,and to provide driving forces for in situ polymerization of MF precondensates through electrostatic attractions between carboxyl groups and ammonium ions.It was demonstrated that MF microcapsules containing clove oil were prepared successfully.The amount and the composition of the intermediate polyacrylate bridging layer were critical.Smooth and sphere-shaped MF-clove oil microcapsules were prepared when the weight ratio of polyacrylate to clove oil was over 60 wt%and the concentration of acrylic acid(AA)increased to 10 wt%in polyacrylate.In addition,MF microcapsules containing sunflower oil and hexyl salicylate were prepared by using this method.The work suggests that this new approach can be potentially used to encapsulate various core materials,tuning the shell properties of microcapsules such as thickness,mechanical strength and release properties. 展开更多

In this article, MF resin foam was prepared by microwave radiation. We discussed the thermal stability of MF foam and the effect of different emulsifiers on its morphology, apparent density, fire-retardancy and mechanical property. The decomposition temperature of MF foam we prepared is nearly 400℃ and the constitution of residue after combustion is made up of carbon and graphite. Emulsifier influenced the apparent density of MF foam and using coemulsifiers can get flexible foam with uniform cell size, good morphology and low apparent density. When the fire-retardant MF foam’s apparent density is low of 5.53 kg/cm-3, its value of LOI can reach 32.4. The mechanical property of foam is consistent with apparent density. 展开更多

Objective We tested whether melamine nephrotoxicity was exacerbated by urate(a typical component of renal stones in humans)in rats with hyperuricemiainduced by the uricase inhibitor,potassium oxonate(Oxo).Methods Rats were exposed to melamine or Oxo alone or combinations of melamine(200-400 mg/kg)and Oxo(200-600 mg/kg)for 3 consecutive days.Kidney injury was evaluated by renal biochemical functions,histomorphology,and lipid peroxidation.Kidney crystals were analyzed for their composition.Results Nephrotoxicity was minimal in animals administered melamine or Oxo alone,but it was demonstrable in animals administered at least 800 mg/kg of the two compounds combined.All rats in the 400+600(melamine+Oxo)and 400+400 mg/kg groups and 4 out of 6 in the 200+600 mg/kg group died within 3 days;no rat died in the 200+400 or 200+200 mg/kg group.Dose-dependent renal damage resembling clinical findings in affected patients was observed in rats administered the two compounds.Crystal composition determination revealed the existence of melamine and uric acid in the affected kidneys,resembling human stones.Conclusion Our findings suggest that uric acid plays a key role in melamine-related kidney injury in humans.Future studies should consider uric acid together with melamine when examining adverse effects in humans. 展开更多

Inspired by nature,a superhydrophobic and magnetic melamine sponge(BFSM-MF)was fabricated by a one-step dip-coating method.Aiming at replacing nano-Fe_(3)O_(4) particles with a complex preparation process and high cost,the commercial and cheap Fe_(3)O_(4) originated from magnetite was employed as a magnetic substance.To acquire superhydrophobicity,the hierarchical mirco/nano-sized structure with low surface energy was mainly contributed by bonding hydrophobic Fe_(3)O_(4) and graphene with silicone resin onto the surface of the melamine sponge.The results demonstrated that the water and oil static contact angle values of BFSM-MF were 160°and 0°,revealing that BFSM-MF was superhydrophobic and super-oleophilic.Moreover,the self-cleaning ability,magnetic-driven oil absorption ability and continuous oil–water separation performance of BFSM-MF have also been evaluated.As expected,BFSM-MF possessed magnetic-driven oil absorption ability and the oil–water separation efficiency for light oil reaches 98%±1%.In addition,the adsorption capacity and recycling performance of diff erent organic solvents were systematically investigated.Therefore,the development of biomimetic,fluorine-free and superhydrophobic foam with magnetic-driven eff ect has potential application value in marine oil spill treatment and separation of domestic oil pollution. 展开更多

Stabilized multifunctional phase change materials based on carbonized Cu-coated melamine foam/reduced graphene oxide framework for multiple energy conversion and storage

The leakage of organic phase change materials(OPCMs)at temperatures above their melting point severely limits their large-scale application.The introduction of porous supports has been identified as an efficient leakageproofing method.In this study,a novel carbonized Cu-coated melamine foam(MF)/reduced graphene oxide(rGO)framework(MF/rGO/Cu-C)is constructed as a support for fabricating stabilized multifunctional OPCMs.MF serves as the supporting material,while rGO and Cu act as functional reinforcements.As a thermal energy storage material,polyethylene glycol(PEG)is encapsulated into MF/rGO/Cu-C through a vacuum-assisted impregnation method to obtain PEG@MF/rGO/Cu-C composite with excellent comprehensive performance.PEG@MF/rGO/Cu-C exhibits high phase change enthalpies of 148.3 J g^(-1)(melting)and 143.9 J g^(-1)(crystallization),corresponding to a high energy storage capability of 92.7%.Simultaneously,MF/rGO/Cu-C endues the composite with an enhanced thermal conductivity of 0.4621Wm^(-1) K^(-1),which increases by 463%compared to that of PEG@MF.Furthermore,PEG@MF/rGO/Cu-C displays great light-to-thermal and electric-to-thermal conversion capabilities,thermal cycle stability,light-tothermal cycle stability,and shape stability,showing promising application prospects in different aspects. 展开更多

Carboxylic acid-functionalized nano-sized magnetic composite polymers (COOH-NMPs) were synthesized and used for the preparation of the modified glassy carbon electrode, i.e., COOH-NMPs/GCE and DNA/COOH-NMPs/GCE. The electrochemical behaviors of melamine (MM) were investigated on COOH-NMPs/GCE by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in both cases of DNA in the solution and immobilized on the electrode surface. The electron transfer coefficient (a) and the rate constant (ks) kept unchanged in the absence and presence of DNA. Based on the electrochemical properties of the interaction of MM on the surface of the DNA/COOH-NMPs/GCE, a direct method for the determination of MM in liquid milk was established. The detection limit of this method was 2.0 ng·L﹣1, with average recoveries at 95.9% - 104.2% and RSD at 4.5% - 8.2%. The proposed method was provided to have a good accuracy, high stability and good reproducibility with a simple and environmental friendly process. 10 kinds of liquid milk samples bought from the market randomly were tested, and only 1 of them was found at relatively low level of MM residue with the amount of 0.12 ug·L﹣1. 展开更多

Interaction of melamine with Cu2﹢ ion was investigated and the decrease of Cu stripping peak was measured for the determination of melamine using SMDE. Oxidation property of melamine was improved using gold nano particle modified carbon paste electrode. Direct determination of melamine was proposed from the oxidation peak with three sigma detection limit of 0.43 μML﹣1. In the present paper, The graphite-epoxy composited solid phase electrode was modified with bismuth layer by cyclic voltammetric deposition of bismuth from Bi(NO3)3 aqueous solution including 0.10 M HNO3, and hydrolyzed into micro bismuthyl chloride on-sites. Melamine in fresh milk was extracted with solid phase micro-extraction on the bismuthyl chloride modified graphite-epoxy composited solid electrode. The adsorption of melamine on bismuthyl chloride particle surfaces follows a Freundlich adsorption model, and results in the decrease of the reduction peak current of bismuth in bismuthyl chloride, and determined by differential pulse voltammetry from fresh milk in a larger concentration range of 10–4 ? 10–12 M with detection limit of 2.5 ? 10–12 M and relative standard deviation of 2.7%. The method is sensitive, convenient and was applied in the detection of melamine in fresh milk with relative deviation of 4.2% in content of 0.45 mg/kg melamine in the fresh milk. 展开更多

We searched for a superior melamine-degrading bacterium for the bioremediation of melamine. Cyanuric acid, which is a by-product produced during the biodegradation of melamine, shows strong nephrotoxicity. Therefore, the melamine-degrading bacterium is also required to show a high ability to degrade cyanuric acid. We selected a melamine-degrading strain (MEL1) among ten cyanuric acid-degrading bacteria isolated from the soil. The species of MEL1 strain was Microbacterium esteramaticum or was extremely similar to that species, and the enzymatic activity of the melamine deaminase in the MEL1 strain was similar to that in the NRRLB-12227 strain. The ability of the MEL1 strain to degrade cyanuric acid was higher than its ability to degrade melamine, and therefore, the accumulation of by-products (ammeline, ammelide and cyanuric acid) during the degradation of melamine was minimal. These results suggest that the MEL1 strain is useful for the bioremediation of melamine. 展开更多

The CE procedure was performed on fused silica capillary (41 cm × 75 μm I.D.) at 17 kV using pH3.1 60mmol/L phosphate buffer as run buffer and detecting at 200 nm. The proposed method showed good linearity (0.5 - 10.0 μmol/L) and low LOD (0.5 μmol/L) with good reproducibility (RSD% was 2.4 and 3.2 for migration time and peak area respectively), which made it suitable for quantity control of the related food product. 展开更多

A chromatographic analysis method for determining inorganic anions and melamine in fertilizers was established using ion chromatography(IC).The fertilizer samples were extracted by ultrasonic method with 7 g/L trichloroacetic acid solution and centrifuged.The supernatant is purified by a solid phase extraction column.Then,the anions in the solution were purified using SH-AP-1(250 mm×4.0 mm)as a separation column,and measured by a suppressed conductivity detector;the melamine in the solution was separated using SH-CC-4(200 mm×4.0 mm)as a separation column and detected by a UV detector.The results show that the mass concentration of anions had a linear relationship with its peak area within a certain range,the linear correlation coefficient r of the standard curve was greater than 0.999,the recovery rate of spiked samples was 93.4%-104.4%,and the relative standard deviation(RSD)of the measured value(n=6)was less than 4%.Thus,this method is widely suitable for detection of anions and cations in a variety of fertilizer samples. 展开更多

This paper described an organic solvent-free, rapid, simple, and space-saving method of sample preparation followed by HPLC coupled photo-diode array (PDA) detector for simultaneous quantification of cyromazine (CYR) and its decy-cropropylated metabolite, melamine (MEL), in milk. The HPLC-PDA was performed on an Inertsil? HILIC column with an isocratic aqueous mobile phase. Analytes were extracted from the sample using water, and purified by Mono-Spin?-C18, a centrifugal monolithic silica spin mini-columns, and quantified within 20 min. The method, performed under 100% aqueous conditions, obtained average recoveries for CYR and MEL in the range of 93.2% - 99.1% with relative standard deviations ≤ 2.8%. The quantitation limits were 8.5 ng/mL for CYR and 10 ng/mL for MEL, respectively. No organic solvents were used at any stage of the analysis. 展开更多

Composites based on melamine formaldehyde resins filled with exfoliated graphite or so called nanographite have been prepared to achieve electrical conductivity and improve mechanical strength and thermal stability. The nanographite was synthesized by thermal treatment of oxidized graphite and the incorporation into the melamine matrix was accomplished during the melamine formaldehyde reaction. A homogenous dispersion of the filler in the matrix and the forming of a connecting network based on graphite sheets were proved by SEM images. The graphite filler was able to increase the flexural strength of molded testing specimens compared to unfilled resins and electrical conductivity was achieved starting at 2 wt% nanographite. 展开更多
