Visual media borrows it to refer to the pictorial technique in which cut—out illustrations and fragments are re-arranged, producing a new composite picture with several different images. Literary field applies this artistic technique as a vehicle to create works, especially for stream-of-consciousness fiction which flourished in the early 20 thcentury. This article turns to account for the similarity of montage and literature to divide the writing technique into narrative montage and space montage and dissect the montage use in William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury which is distinguished by its space-skipping and mixed-expression.展开更多

Such a method actually also often exists in different scenes in our ancient literature and different scenes and jumping thinking thoughts form a series of montage in the mind, and then it can be expressed through poetry. This case is the same as it in art, different time and spaces, the characters appear in a scene in a picture, and we distinguish them with a series of symbols to convergence in each scene. Therefore, we can say that if the montage was born after his birth of firms in the twentieth century, then it has existed since ancient time, and it has always existed in the fine arts, however, such thinking played an important role in the development of Chinese art, especially in the convergence and performance practices screen scene.展开更多

Specifically, given a movie and a piece of music as the guidance, our method aims to generate a montage out of the movie that is emotionally consistent with the music. Unlike previous work such as video summarization, this task requires not only video content understanding, but also emotion analysis of both the input movie and music. To this end, we propose a two-stage framework, including a learning-based module for the prediction of emotion similarity and an optimization-based module for the selection and composition of candidate movie shots. The core of our method is to align and estimate emotional similarity between music clips and movie shots in a multi-modal latent space via contrastive learning. Subsequently, the montage generation is modeled as a joint optimization of emotion similarity and additional constraints such as scene-level story completeness and shot-level rhythm synchronization. We conduct both qualitative and quantitative evaluations to demonstrate that our method can generate emotionally consistent montages and outperforms alternative baselines.展开更多

This chromatic framework for quantum movies (CFQM) integrates chromatic components of individual frames (each a multi-channel quantum image - MCQI state) that make up the movie, while each frame is tagged to a time component of a quantum register (i.e., a movie strip). The formulation of the CFQM framework and properties inherent to the MCQI images facilitate the execution of a cortege of carefully formulated transformations including the frame-to-frame (FTF), color of interest (COI), and subblock swapping (SBS) operations that are not realizable on other quantum movie formats. These innovative transformations are deployed in the creation of digital movie-like montages on the CFQM framework. Future studies could explore additional MCQI-related operations and their use to execute more advanced montage applications.展开更多

Despite showing a strong power in demonstrating complex wave field effects, this technique has neither been fully explored in acoustic imaging nor been realized in real-time systems with the capability beyond diffraction limits. On the other hand, the recent prospect of metamaterials has shown their great potentials in superresolution acoustic imaging. However, the miracle jigsaw of more advanced functional modulation of acoustic wave fields at deep subwavelength scale still remains elusive. Here we report the experimental implementation of super-resolution acoustic image montage through a judiciously designed biaxial metamaterial lens. Based on the non-diffraction birefringence in the biaxial metamaterials, we realized various montage functionalities such as duplication, composition, and decomposition of sound images with distinctive deep subwavelength features. Our work represents an important step in developing versatile functional acoustic metamaterial devices for imaging purposes, as it provides on-demand editing of sound field patterns beyond diffraction limits.展开更多

Starting with Gustave Flaubert and recognizing his efforts to duplicate the simultaneity of action possible in drama and later in film, Frank comments that since language proceeds in time, it is possible to approach this simultaneity of perception only by breaking up temporal sequence. While Flaubert introduces this method, it does not become a dominant form until James Joyce's Ulysses. According to Frank, spatialization of form in this novel provides an alternative to the chronological development normal to verbal structures, which can be read only in a linear fashion through time, unlike painting and the plastic arts, which can be visually apprehended instantaneously. Applied to Ulysses as a whole by Joseph Frank, the conception of spatial form might as well serve as a convenient point of departure for the analysis on much smaller, let's say, "episodic" scale. In "Nausicaa" episode, Joyce dissolves temporal sequence by cutting back and forth between the various levels of action in a slowly-rising crescendo to achieve the unified impact, the sense of simultaneous activity occurring in different places. For the duration of the episode the time-flow of the narrative is halted: various levels of action are juxtaposed independently of the progress of the narrative. Joyce, in this fragmentation of narrative structure, proceeded on the assumption that a unified spatial apprehension of not only separate episodes but his entire work would ultimately be possible.展开更多
