High-performance microwave absorption(MA) materials must be studied immediately since electromagnetic pollution has become a problem that cannot be disregarded. A straightforward composite material, comprising hollow MXene spheres loaded with C–Co frameworks, was prepared to develop multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs). A high impedance and suitable morphology were guaranteed by the C–Co exoskeleton, the attenuation ability was provided by the MWCNTs endoskeleton, and the material performance was greatly enhanced by the layered core–shell structure. When the thickness was only 2.04 mm, the effective absorption bandwidth was 5.67 GHz, and the minimum reflection loss(RLmin) was-70.70 d B. At a thickness of 1.861 mm, the sample calcined at 700 ℃ had a RLmin of-63.25 d B. All samples performed well with a reduced filler ratio of 15 wt%. This paper provides a method for making lightweight core–shell composite MA materials with magnetoelectric synergy. 展开更多

Developing advanced stealth devices to cope with radar-infrared(IR)fusion detection and diverse application scenarios is increasingly demanded, which faces significant challenges due to conflicting microwave and IR cloaking mechanisms and functional integration limitations. Here,we propose a multiscale hierarchical structure design, integrating wrinkled MXene IR shielding layer and flexible Fe_(3)O_(4)@C/PDMS microwave absorption layer. The top wrinkled MXene layer induces the intensive diffuse reflection effect, shielding IR radiation signals while allowing microwave to pass through.Meanwhile, the permeable microwaves are assimilated into the bottom Fe_(3)O_(4)@C/PDMS layer via strong magneto-electric synergy.Through theoretical and experimental optimization, the assembled stealth devices realize a near-perfect stealth capability in both X-band(8–12 GHz)and long-wave infrared(8–14μm)wavelength ranges.Specifically,it delivers a radar cross-section reduction of−20 dB m^(2),a large apparent temperature modulation range(ΔT=70℃),and a low average IR emissivity of 0.35.Additionally,the optimal device demonstrates exceptional curved surface conformability,self-cleaning capability(contact angle≈129°),and abrasion resistance(recovery time≈5 s).This design strategy promotes the development of multispectral stealth technology and reinforces its applicability and durability in complex and hostile environments. 展开更多

The utilization of electromagnetic waves is rapidly advancing into the millimeter-wave frequency range, posing increasingly severe challenges in terms of electromagnetic pollution prevention and radar stealth. However, existing millimeter-wave absorbers are still inadequate in addressing these issues due to their monotonous magnetic resonance pattern. In this work,rare-earth La^(3+)and non-magnetic Zr^(4+)ions are simultaneously incorporated into M-type barium ferrite(BaM)to intentionally manipulate the multi-magnetic resonance behavior.By leveraging the contrary impact of La^(3+)and Zr^(4+)ions on magnetocrystalline anisotropy field, the restrictive relationship between intensity and frequency of the multi-magnetic resonance is successfully eliminated. The magnetic resonance peak-differentiating and imitating results confirm that significant multi-magnetic resonance phenomenon emerges around 35 GHz due to the reinforced exchange coupling effect between Fe^(3+)and Fe^(2+)ions.Additionally,Mosbauer spectra analysis,first-principle calculations, and least square fitting collectively identify that additional La^(3+)doping leads to a profound rearrangement of Zr^(4+)occupation and thus makes the portion of polarization/conduction loss increase gradually. As a consequence, the La^(3+)-Zr^(4+)co-doped BaM achieves an ultra-broad bandwidth of 12.5+GHz covering from 27.5 to 40+GHz,which holds remarkable potential for millimeter-wave absorbers around the atmospheric window of 35 GHz. 展开更多

Two-dimensional carbon-based materials have shown promising electromagnetic wave absorption capabilities in mid-and high-frequency ranges, but face challenges in low-frequency absorption due to limited control over polarization response mecha-nisms and ambiguous resonance behavior. In this study,we pro-pose a novel approach to enhance absorption efficiency in aligned three-dimensional(3D)MXene/CNF(cellulose nanofibers)cavities by modifying polarization properties and manipulating resonance response in the 3D MXene architecture. This controlled polarization mechanism results in a significant shift of the main absorption region from the X-band to the S-band,leading to a remarkable reflection loss value of-47.9 dB in the low-frequency range.Furthermore, our findings revealed the importance of the oriented electromagnetic coupling in influencing electromagnetic response and microwave absorption properties. The present study inspired us to develop a generic strategy for low-frequency tuned absorption in the absence of magnetic element participation, while orientation-induced polarization and the derived magnetic resonance coupling are the key controlling factors of the method. 展开更多

Two-dimensional(2D)transition metal chalcogenides(TMCs)hold great promise as novel microwave absorption materials owing to their interlayer interactions and unique magnetoelectric properties. However, overcoming the impedance mismatch at the low loading is still a challenge for TMCs due to the restricted loss pathways caused by their high-density characteristic. Here,an interface engineering based on the heterostructure of 2D Cr_(5)Te_(8) and graphite is in situ constructed via a one-step chemical vapor deposit to modulate impedance matching and introduce multiple attenuation mechanisms.Intriguingly, the Cr_(5)Te_(8)@EG(ECT)heterostructure exhibits a minimum reflection loss of up to−57.6 dB at 15.4 GHz with a thin thickness of only 1.4 mm under a low filling rate of 10%.The density functional theory calculations confirm that the splendid performance of ECT heterostructure primarily derives from charge redistribution at the abundant intimate interfaces, thereby reinforcing interfacial polarization loss.Furthermore, the ECT coating displays a remarkable radar cross section reduction of 31.9 dB m^(2),demonstrating a great radar microwave scattering ability. This work sheds light on the interfacial coupled stimulus response mechanism of TMC-based heterogeneous structures and provides a feasible strategy to manipulate high-quality TMCs for excellent microwave absorbers. 展开更多

Cobalt ferrite(CoFe_(2)O_(4)),with good chemical stability and magnetic loss, can be used to prepare composites with a unique structure and high absorption. In this study,CoFe_(2)O_(4)@mesoporous carbon hollow spheres(MCHS)with a core-shell structure were prepared by introducing CoFe_(2)O_(4)magnetic particles into hollow mesoporous carbon through a simple in situ method. Then, the microwave absorption performance of the CoFe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites was investigated.Magnetic and dielectric losses can be effectively coordinated by constructing the porous structure and adjusting the ratio of MCHS and CoFe_(2)O_(4).Results show that the impedance matching and absorption properties of the Co Fe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites can be altered by tweaking the mass ratio of MCHS and CoFe_(2)O_(4).The minimum reflection loss of the Co Fe_(2)O_(4)@MCHS composites reaches-29.7 dB at 5.8 GHz.In addition, the effective absorption bandwidth is 3.7 GHz,with the thickness being 2.5 mm.The boosted microwave absorption can be ascribed to the porous core-shell structure and introduction of magnetic particles. The coordination between the microporous morphology and the core-shell structure is conducive to improving the attenuation coefficient and achieving good impedance matching. The porous core-shell structure provides large solid-void and CoFe_(2)O_(4)-C interfaces to induce interfacial polarization and extend the electromagnetic waves’multiple scattering and reflection.Furthermore, natural resonance, exchange resonance, and eddy current loss work together for the magnetic loss. This method provides a practical solution to prepare core-shell structure microwave absorbents. 展开更多

Two-dimensional transition metal carbides and nitrides(MXene)have emerged as promising candidates for microwave absorption(MA)materials. However, they also have some drawbacks, such as poor impedance matching, high self-stacking tendency, and high density. To tackle these challenges,MXene nanosheets were incorporated into polyacrylonitrile(PAN)nanofibers and subsequently assembled into a three-dimensional(3D)network structure through PAN carbonization, yielding MXene/C aerogels. The 3D network effectively extends the path of microcurrent transmission, leading to enhanced conductive loss of electromagnetic(EM)waves. Moreover, the aerogel’s rich pore structure significantly improves the impedance matching while effectively reducing the density of the MXenebased absorbers.EM parameter analysis shows that the MXene/C aerogels exhibit a minimum reflection loss(RL_(min))value of−53.02 dB(f=4.44 GHz,t=3.8 mm),and an effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 5.3 GHz(t=2.4 mm,7.44–12.72 GHz).Radar cross-sectional(RCS)simulations were employed to assess the radar stealth effect of the aerogels, revealing that the maximum RCS reduction value of the perfect electric conductor covered by the MXene/C aerogel reaches 12.02 dB m^(2).In addition to the MA performance, the MXene/C aerogel also demonstrates good thermal insulation performance, and a 5-mm-thick aerogel can generate a temperature gradient of over 30℃ at 82℃.This study provides a feasible design approach for creating lightweight, efficient, and multifunctional MXene-based MA materials. 展开更多

Porous carbon-based materials are promised to be lightweight dielectric microwave absorbents.Deeply understanding the influence of graphitization grade and porous structure on the dielectric parameters is urgently required.Herein, utilizing the low boiling point of Zn,porous N-doped carbon was fabricated by carbonization of ZIF-8(Zn)at different temperature, and the microwave absorption performance was investigated. The porous N-doped carbon inherits the high porosity of ZIF-8 precursor.By increasing the carbonization temperature, the contents of Zn and N elements are decreased;the graphitization degree is improved;however, the specific surface area and porosity are increased first and then decreased. When the carbonization temperature is 1000°C,the porous N-doped carbon behaves enhanced microwave absorption. With an ultrathin thickness of 1.29 mm,the ideal RL reaches-50.57 dB at 16.95 GHz and the effective absorption bandwidth is 4.17 GHz.The mechanism of boosted microwave absorption is ascribed to the competition of graphitization and porosity as well as N dopants, resulting in high dielectric loss capacity and good impedance matching. The porous structure can prolong the pathways and raise the contact opportunity between microwaves and porous carbon, causing multiple scattering, interface polarization, and improved impedance matching.Besides, the N dopants can induce electron polarization and defect polarization. These results give a new insight to construct lightweight carbon-based microwave absorbents by regulating the graphitization and porosity. 展开更多

Reduced graphene oxide(rGO)aerogels are emerging as very attractive scaffolds for high-performance electromagnetic wave absorption materials(EWAMs)due to their intrinsic conductive networks and intricate interior microstructure,as well as good compatibility with other electromagnetic(EM)components.Herein,we realized the decoration of rGO aerogel with Mo_(2)C nanoparticles by sequential hydrothermal assembly,freeze-drying,and high-temperature pyrolysis. Results show that Mo_(2)C nanoparticle loading can be easily controlled by the ammonium molybdate to glucose molar ratio. The hydrophobicity and thermal insulation of the rGO aerogel are effectively improved upon the introduction of Mo_(2)C nanoparticles, and more importantly, these nanoparticles regulate the EM properties of the rGO aerogel to a large extent.Although more Mo_(2)C nanoparticles may decrease the overall attenuation ability of the rGO aerogel, they bring much better impedance matching. At a molar ratio of 1:1,a desirable balance between attenuation ability and impedance matching is observed. In this context, the Mo_(2)C/r GO aerogel displays strong reflection loss and broad response bandwidth, even with a small applied thickness(1.7 mm)and low filler loading(9.0wt%).The positive effects of Mo_(2)C nanoparticles on multifunctional properties may render Mo_(2)C/r GO aerogels promising candidates for high-performance EWAMs under harsh conditions. 展开更多

Lightweight and efficient carbon-based microwave absorbents are significant in addressing the increasing severity of electromagnetic pollution. In this study, hierarchical NiO/Ni nanosheets with a tuneable phase and morphology supported on a carbon fiber substrate(CF@NiO/Ni)were fabricated using a hydrothermal approach and post-annealing treatment. As the annealing temperature increases, more metallic Ni is formed, and an apparent porosity appears on the sheet surface.Benefiting from the advantages of a three-dimensional(3D)conducting network, hierarchical porous structure, reinforced dipole/interface polarization, multiple scattering, and good impedance matching, the CF@NiO/Ni-500 composite exhibits an excellent microwave absorption performance even at a filling rate of only 3wt%.Specifically,its minimal reflection loss is-43.92 dB,and the qualified bandwidth is up to 5.64 GHz.In addition, the low radar cross-section area of the CF@NiO/Ni composite coating confirms its strong ability to suppress electromagnetic wave scattering. We expect that this work could contribute to a deeper understanding of the phase and morphology evolution in enhancing microwave absorption. 展开更多

In order to obtain the microwave absorption(MA)materials with light weight, high efficiency and tunable properties, the carbonized mesophase pitch(CMP)with the variation in carbonization temperatures and particle sizes were prepared and characterized. The carbonization temperature mainly controlled the graphitization degree of the CMP to affect their conductive loss. The carbon residues were generated on the CMP surface when the temperature was higher than 700℃,which contributed significantly to the polarization loss of the CMP.For scale regulation, the segregation between the particles in the paraffin ring caused by the reduction particles of CMP carbonization at 750℃(750 CMP)resulted in a significant reduction in conductive losses while improving their impedance matching. The 750 CMP over 300 mesh sieved had the strongest MA properties of-53 d B at 3.4 GHz within 5.5 mm.Moreover, the prepared CMPs were multi-layer compounded and optimized by CST microwave studio. The synergistic effect derived from the improved impedance matching and the enhanced interfacial polarization resulted in significant reflection loss in multi-layer CMP.Overall, these findings lead to the systematically regulation of carbon-based materials for MA,showing an attractive application prospect for the preparation of high-performance MA materials. 展开更多

The recycling of carbon fibers and protection from unwanted microwave radiation are two important environmental issues that need to be addressed in modern society.Herein, branched carbon nanofibers(CNFs)were grown in-situ on recycled carbon fibers(RCFs)through the chemical vapor deposition method using nickel as catalysts and thiophene as aided-catalysts.The effect of thiophene on the growth morphology of CNFs was investigated.Correspondingly, branched CNFs-RCFs and straight CNFs-RCFs were respectively obtained in the presence and absence of thiophene. The microstructure and electromagnetic behaviour investigations have shown that the branched CNFs possess a typical multi-branched structure, with more defects, pores and a larger specific surface area than the straight CNFs,which lead to better impedance matching and adequate dielectric loss ability for the branched CNFs-RCFs.The reflection loss(RL)results show that the branched CNFs-RCFs exhibit an optimum RL of -23.6 dB at 1.5 mm and a best effective absorption bandwidth(EAB)of 7.5 GHz at 2.0 mm.This research provides an innovative microwave absorbing material with adequate absorbing strength and outstanding EAB,while also promoting the sustainable reuse of the RCFs resources. 展开更多

The reflection loss (RL) with different thickness and short-wire packing ratio reveals that the composite sample containing 7% exhibits better microwave absorption behavior with its minimum value of RL reaching-34 dB in thickness of 3 mm at 14 GHz. Therefore, it is significantly useful to develop microwire-dielectric materials with much wider absorption band for microwave absorption applications. 展开更多

Microwave has been widely used in many fields, including communication, medical treatment and military industry;however, the corresponding generated radiations have been novel hazardous sources of pollution threating human’s daily life. Therefore, designing high-performance microwave absorption materials(MAMs)has become an indispensable requirement.Recently,metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have been considered as one of the most ideal precursor candidates of MAMs because of their tunable structure, high porosity and large specific surface area.Usually,MOF-derived MAMs exhibit excellent electrical conductivity, good magnetism and sufficient defects and interfaces, providing obvious merits in both impedance matching and microwave loss.In this review, the recent research progresses on MOF-derived MAMs were profoundly reviewed, including the categories of MOFs and MOF composites precursors, design principles, preparation methods and the relationship between mechanisms of microwave absorption and microstructures of MAMs.Finally, the current challenges and prospects for future opportunities of MOF-derived MAMs are also discussed. 展开更多
