Climate fluctuations in Kenya have resulted in the spread of desert-like conditions in the ASALs region, such as Marigat in Baringo County. As a county, Baringo experiences great variations in climate annually, as well as uncertainty in expected rains, thereby negatively impacting the production of crops such as sorghum. This study applied the rainfall anomaly index (RAI), standardised precipitation evapotranspiration index (SPEI), standard precipitation index (SPI), and Mann-Kendall (MK) statistical test for trends on historical climatic data in analysing both temperature and precipitation data over the period 1990 to 2022 to determine their trend, patterns and how they affect the production of sorghum crops. The machine learning method (R studio) with inputs was used to calculate the SPI, SPEI, RAI and MK trend test. The rainfall varied from below average to above average during the study period with no clear pattern in the RAI, SPEI and SPI values. The years 2020 and 2000 stood out as they had higher and lower rainfall than usual, respectively. The Marigat area generally experienced more rainfall during the high/long rainfall season (AMJJ). The MK trend test on average monthly rainfall, SOND, AMJJ, and annual precipitation confirmed a positive trend in precipitation. However, the short rainy season (SOND) was found to be the most variable period for rainfall, and there was a slight increase in daily average temperatures during this season.展开更多

文摘The characteristics of drought in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region(Xinjiang),China have changed due to changes in the spatiotemporal patterns of temperature and precipitation, however, the effects of temperature and precipitation—the two most important factors influencing drought—have not yet been thoroughly explored in this region. In this study,we first calculated the standard precipitation evapotranspiration index(SPEI)in Xinjiang from 1980 to 2020 based on the monthly precipitation and monthly average temperature. Then the spatiotemporal characteristics of temperature, precipitation, and drought in Xinjiang from 1980 to 2020 were analyzed using the Theil-Sen median trend analysis method and Mann-Kendall test.A series of SPEI-based scenario-setting experiments by combining the observed and detrended climatic factors were utilized to quantify the effects of individual climatic factor(i.e.,temperature and precipitation). The results revealed that both temperature and precipitation had experienced increasing trends at most meteorological stations in Xinjiang from 1980 to 2020,especially the spring temperature and winter precipitation.Due to the influence of temperature, trends of intensifying drought have been observed at spring, summer, autumn, and annual scales. In addition, the drought trends in southern Xinjiang were more notable than those in northern Xinjiang. From 1980 to 2020,temperature trends exacerbated drought trends, but precipitation trends alleviated drought trends in Xinjiang. Most meteorological stations in Xinjiang exhibited temperature-dominated drought trend except in winter;in winter, most stations exhibited precipitation-dominated wetting trend. The findings of this study highlight the importance of the impact of temperature on drought in Xinjiang and deepen the understanding of the factors influencing drought.

文摘Climate is subject to fluctuations in the majority of the world, mainly caused by rainfall as well as temperature variations. However, the short rainy season (SOND) was found to be the most variable period for rainfall, and there was a slight increase in daily average temperatures during this season.

文摘With the continuous expansion of the scale of renewable energy installation, the demand for energy storage has increased significantly. However, there are significant differences in the value of energy storage in different scenarios, and the phenomenon of diminishing marginal benefits of energy storage is becoming more apparent.Therefore,themulti-dimensional value evolution trend of energy storage has become a key issue. This study selects indicators from three dimensions of energy storage:low-carbon emission reduction, smoothing wind and solar power fluctuations, and saving generation costs, quantifying the economic, environmental, and technical values of energy storage. This forms a quantitative evaluation system for energy storage value.By comparing the calculated system values under different energy storage capacities, the marginal value evolution trend of energy storage is obtained.Meanwhile, considering factors such as the utilization rate of renewable energy, the change in energy storage value under different scenarios is analyzed. The results show that the value of long-duration energy storage is significantly affected by the energy storage capacity.Specifically, when the charge-discharge efficiency of longduration energy storage reaches 0.6 or above, the system value increases significantly.Additionally, appropriately reducing the cost of energy storage capacity also helps to improve its system value.
文摘Objectives:The Brazilian Unified Health System(SistemaÚnico de Saúde−SUS)is the universal public healthcare system of Brazil that maintains a nationwide database of its patients. Our primary objective was to analyze regional and temporal trends, while our secondary goal was to establish correlations between states’health economy status and their prostate cancer(PCa)epidemiology. Methods:We analyzed Brazil’s nationwide data on prostate cancer(PCa)incidence, mortality, and care gathered between 2013 and 2021 by the Information Technology Department of SUS(DATA-SUS),updated monthly using the International Classification of Diseases(ICD-10)code.Results:In the period,273,933 new cases of PCa and 135,336 PCa deaths were reported in men aged 50 years or over in Brazil. The median annual PCa-specific incidence rate(PCSIR)ranged from 14.7 in the Southeast to 6.9 in the North region and the median annual PCa-specific mortality rate(PCSMR)ranged from 7.7 in the Northeast to 6.0 in the South region(per 10,000 men>50).The median annual mortality to incidence ratio(MIR)was highest in the North(0.88)and lowest in the Southeast region(0.44).There were significant regional differences in PCa treatment rates(per new cases);the Midwest region had the highest median annual surgery rate(0.63)while the North region had the highest median annual systemic therapy rate(0.75)and the lowest radiation therapy rate(0.06).Temporal analysis of the data showed significant change in annual rate trends after the year 2018 for PCSIR(coefficient[β]=+3.66,p<0.001),any treatment(β=−0.06,p=0.016),surgery([SR]β=+0.05,p=0.017)radiation therapy([RTR]β=−0.06,p=0.005)and systemic therapy([STR]β=−0.10,p=0.002).After the 2020 pandemic, annual PCSIR decreased(β=−2.15,p=0.002)but annual PCSMR,MIR,and treatment rates remained stable.Correlation studies showed that the PCSIR was strongly negatively correlated with STR(p<0.001)and positively correlated with RTR(p=0.004).MIR was positively correlated with STR(p<0.001)and negatively correlated with the number of robotic surgical systems per million population(p=0.003).Conclusion:Our data shows that PCa care is dependent on the region and is likely influenced by access to treatment options.Furthermore, changes after the year 2018 underscore the influence of international guidelines on Brazilian clinicians’decision-making especially concerning population screening which in turn affected incidence and treatment rates.Limitation of our study includes limited patientrelated information and data on private practices as well as an unknown impact of traveling patients.
