Oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)has been disclosed in recent studies as a significant secondary cathodic process during magnesium corrosion.This work elaborates on the contribution of ORR to the total corrosion process of pure Mg at different impurity levels in NaCl electrolyte with the assistance of local techniques.A finite element based numerical model taking into account the contribution of ORR during the corrosion of the Mg test materials has been designed in this study considering the local oxygen concentration.Respective computational simulations were calibrated based on the experimental data and evaluated accordingly.Finally,the simultaneous monitoring of local concentration of H_(2) and O_(2),and the combined modeling study reveal the relation between ORR and hydrogen evolution reaction. 展开更多

Dissolved oxygen(DO)is an important indicator of aquaculture,and its accurate forecasting can effectively improve the quality of aquatic products.In this paper,a new DO hybrid forecasting model is proposed that includes three stages:multi-factor analysis,adaptive decomposition,and an optimizationbased ensemble.First,considering the complex factors affecting DO,the grey relational(GR)degree method is used to screen out the environmental factors most closely related to DO.The consideration of multiple factors makes model fusion more effective.Second,the series of DO,water temperature,salinity,and oxygen saturation are decomposed adaptively into sub-series by means of the empirical wavelet transform(EWT)method.Then,five benchmark models are utilized to forecast the sub-series of EWT decomposition.The ensemble weights of these five sub-forecasting models are calculated by particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm(PSOGSA).Finally,a multi-factor ensemble model for DO is obtained by weighted allocation.The performance of the proposed model is verified by timeseries data collected by the pacific islands ocean observing system(PacIOOS)from the WQB04 station at Hilo.The evaluation indicators involved in the experiment include the Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency(NSE),Kling–Gupta efficiency(KGE),mean absolute percent error(MAPE),standard deviation of error(SDE),and coefficient of determination(R^(2)).Example analysis demonstrates that:①The proposed model can obtain excellent DO forecasting results;②the proposed model is superior to other comparison models;and③the forecasting model can be used to analyze the trend of DO and enable managers to make better management decisions. 展开更多

The large water-pumping and particle-capturing gills of the filter-feeding blue mussel Mytilus edulis are oversized for respiratory purposes. Consequently, the oxygen uptake rate of the mussel has been suggested to be rather insensitive to decreasing oxygen concentrations in the ambient water, since the diff usion rate of oxygen from water flowing through the mussel determines oxygen uptake. We tested this hypothesis by measuring the oxygen uptake in mussels exposed to various oxygen concentrations. These concentrations were established via N2-bubbling of the water in a respiration chamber with mussels fed algal cells to stimulate fully opening of the valves. It was found that mussels exposed to oxygen concentrations decreasing from 9 to 2 mg O_2/L resulted in a slow but significant reduction in the respiration rate, while the filtration rate remained high and constant. Thus, a decrease of oxygen concentration by 78% only resulted in a 25% decrease in respiration rate. However, at oxygen concentrations below 2 mg O_2/L M. edulis responded by gradually closing its valves, resulting in a rapid decrease of filtration rate, concurrent with a rapid reduction of respiration rate. These observations indicated that M.edulis is no longer able to maintain its normal aerobic metabolism at oxygen concentration below 2 mg O 2/L, and there seems to be an energy-saving mechanism in bivalve molluscs to strongly reduce their activity when exposed to low oxygen conditions. 展开更多

The effects of oxygen concentration in the reactive gas mixture and post-deposition annealing treatment on the optical transmittance as well as optical parameters, such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (k), real part (ε’) and imaginary part (ε") of the dielectric constant, were studied in the visible and near-infrared region. Oxidation corrosion of steels usually occurs in contact with the oxygen-contained environment, which is accelerated by high oxygen concentration and irradiation. The oxidation mechanism of steels is investigated by the adsorption/solution of oxygen atoms on/under body-centered-cubic(bcc) iron surfaces, and diffusion of oxygen atoms on the surface and in the near-surface region. Energetic results indicate that oxygen atoms prefer to adsorb at hollow and long-bridge positions on the Fe(100) and(110) surfaces, respectively. As the coverage of oxygen atoms increases, oxygen atoms would repel each other and gradually dissolve in the near-surface and bulk region. As vacancies exist, oxygen atoms are attracted by vacancies, especially in the near-surface and bulk region. Dynamic results indicate that the diffusion of O atoms on surfaces is easier than that into near-surface, which is affected by oxygen coverage and vacancies. Moreover, the effects of oxygen concentration and irradiation on oxygen density in the near-surface and bulk region are estimated by the Mc Lean’s model with a simple hypothesis. 展开更多

A turbocharged diesel engine model was built with the GT-Power software,and experimentally verified.Then two different control variables for the control of the variable geometry turbocharger(VGT)were described,and their distinct effects on engine performance,i.e.NOxand soot emissions and fuel consumption,were simulated and compared on the basis of this model.The results showed that NOxemissions decreased obviously with the increase of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR)rate at constant boost pressure condition,but soot emissions and fuel consumption considerably increased.It was a good way to reduce NOxemissions without increasing fuel consumption and soot emissions when VGT was controlled to maintain the excess oxygen ratio unchanged as EGR rate increases. 展开更多

The effects of initial oxygen concentration on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diodes were studied.We fabricated the PIN rectifier diodes with different initial oxygen concentrations,and analyzed the electrical properties,anisotropic preferred etching by means of optical microscopy,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy.It is pointed out that the reverse leakage current increases exponentially with the increasing initial oxygen concentration.Furtherly,we researched and analyzed the mechanism of the effects of initial oxygen concentration on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diode.It is shown that the oxygen precipitations present in an "S" curve with increasing initial oxygen concentration after high temperature diffusion.The main reason is that the nucleation and growth of oxygen precipitation at high temperature induce bulk oxidation-induced defects (B-OSF),which are mainly dislocations,and a small amount of rod stacking faults.The density of B-OSF increases with the increasing initial oxygen concentration.The existence of B-OSF has great effects on the reverse leakage current of PIN rectifier diode. 展开更多

The four parameters shown above were measured at the site of 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N during the cruise, MR13-03 cruise, and at the site of 25<sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E during another cruise KH-14-02. Significant and positive correlation between all biomass (especially invertebrates) and population density of oceanic sea skaters collected with a Neuston-Net trailing during 15 min was shown in overall analysis on the data of the both samplings (p <sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E than that at 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N with similar value of chlorophyll value (p <sup>o</sup>N 160<sup>o</sup>E than that at 12<sup>o</sup>N 135<sup>o</sup>N for keeping high density population of oceanic sea skaters. 展开更多

Signals Analysis and Clinical Validation of Blood and Oxygen Data in Human Brain

With a self-made near-infrared analytical instrument to blood and oxygen parameters in human brain, 80 cases in which 20 are healthy persons and 30 are anaesthetised cases and others are patients with heart function lack is taken to examine, and the data of blood and oxygen in brain tissue were collected and analyzed by the method of power spectrum and correlation function. The results indicate that: (1) The average brain oxygen saturation of healthy persons and anaesthetised cases is about 80%, in accord with normal parameter of physiology. Contrastively, the average brain oxygen saturation of patients with heart function lack is 72.8%, which is obviously less than that of healthy persons and anaesthetised cases. The probability of medical statistics is less than 0.01. (2) The shapes of wave of brain blood and oxygen for the healthy person and the anaesthetised case reveal small periodical fluctuations with stable shape and base line, and the trend of increase or decrease of blood and oxygen parameters in brain tissue is synchronous and a phase reversal, but for the patient with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state, the shapes of wave are irregular. This is a hint that near infrared light passing through tissue can reflect the intuitionistic change of brain blood and oxygen parameters.(3) The power spectra of brain blood and oxygen for the healthy person and the anaesthetised case has a clear main peak, narrow bandwidth and perfect superposition each other, but the power spectra for the patient with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state is on the contrary.(4) The average cross correlation coefficient of brain blood and oxygen for healthy persons and anaesthetised cases is -0.9825±0.1027 close to -1. But the average cross correlation coefficient for patients with heart function lack in a brain oxygen lack state is merely -0.8923±0.1035 which is obviously greater than -1 and the probability of medical statistics is less than 0.01. The clinic experiments have proved that the shapes of waves, the power spectrum and cross correlation coefficient of brain blood and oxygen are useful to analyze the physiological status and changes of blood and oxygen in human brain. 展开更多

A decline in atmospheric oxygen concentration is projected in the 21st century given the background of global warming.The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau is located at a high altitude,and thus,it faces a hypoxia challenge;however,knowledge of the factors contributing to its atmospheric oxygen concentration is still lacking.Here,we conducted joint observations of ecosystem oxygen production and carbon sinks and near-surface atmospheric oxygen concentrations on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and meteorological elements at Beijing Fangshan Station.Using seasonal differences and statistical methods,we calculated the relative contribution rates of vegetation to changes in atmospheric oxygen concentration.Our results indicate that solar radiation,atmospheric humidity,and ecosystem oxygen consumption and production have a significant impact on the atmospheric oxygen concentration,and the impact shows temporal and spatial differences.Vegetation significantly impacts the oxygen concentration,with a contribution rate of 16.7%–24.5%,which is underestimated in existing research.Our findings provide important insights into the factors that influence atmospheric oxygen concentration and highlight the contribution of vegetation.To better understand the oxygen dynamics of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau,we recommend further field observations of soil respiration and vegetation photosynthesis to clarify the contributions of carbon storage,carbon sinks and other factors to the near-surface atmospheric oxygen concentration. 展开更多

A two-dimensional geometric model is developed for a polymer electrolyte based on the liquid water penetration mechanism in the membrane electrode assemblies under the action of capillary pressure.The effects of the diameter,number,and distribution of cracks in the micro-pore layers(MPLs)of the modeled MEA on the performance of the PEMFC are simulated to investigate the influence of mass transfer across the membrane.The results indicate that liquid water in the catalyst layer(CL)of the MEA can be discharged to gas channels through the cracks in MEA under the action of capillary pressure,thereby alleviating the flooding in the CL and enhancing the diffusion of oxygen to the CL.When the proportion of the total area of cracks in the active area of the MEA was 8%-12%,crack diameter was 20-30μm,and cracks were distributed uniformly.MEAs with and without cracks were prepared,fuel cells were assembled,and their performance was measured.The effects of cracks on mass transfer were then verified.This study helps prepare MEAs with controllable cracks. 展开更多

In order to avoid serious safety accidents caused by closed fire zone,based on the continuous monitoring of atmospheric pressure at different monitoring points in multiple mines,the atmospheric pressure fluctuation model and the air leakage model were established and analyzed.The change law with time of oxygen concentration and gas concentration in the fire zone were obtained due to atmospheric disturbances under the influence of different pressure difference,volume and size of fire area,wind resistance,gas emission,sealing moments,etc.so as to evaluate the explosion risk of a closed fire zone.Research showed that the mine atmosphere fluctuates with the atmosphere of ground,and the pressure difference between the inner and outer sides of the enclosed fire zone is affected by the periodic fluctuation of atmosphere,which has about 16-h cosine fluctuation and approximate 8-h fixed value.Compared with the fire zone with poor sealing quality,good sealing fire zone has better resistance to atmospheric disturbance.The reduction of oxygen concentration in the inner side of a well-sealed fire zone mainly depends on the dilution of methane,which is more likely to accumulate and rise rapidly.And the fire zone with poor sealing quality is easy to be interfered.The inner oxygen concentration and gas concentration are easily affected by the absolute gas emission and the air leakage in the fire zone.Fire zone with small wind resistance and small volume is especially obvious.At the initial stage of the closed fire zone it's very possible to happen explosion.The time duration of explosion danger varies under different conditions,and the atmospheric disturbance may lead to repeated explosions in some cases.It's suggested to take some methods to avoid explosions according to the real-time situation,closure time,oxygen concentration and gas concentration of fire zone. 展开更多

Dissolved oxygen( DO) and aniline concentrations were selected as the operating variables to analyze,model,and optimize the process. In order to analyze the process,5 dependent parameters,chemical oxygen demand( COD),aniline,ammonium,total nitrogen( TN),and total phosphorous( TP) removal as the process responses were studied. From the results, increase in DO concentration could promote the removal of COD,aniline,ammonium,and TN,while increase in aniline concentration has a slightly negative impact on the removal of pollutants. The optimum DO concentration was found to be 0. 4-0. 5 mg /L. The removal efficiencies for COD,aniline,ammonium,and TN at the optimum point( DO concentration0. 5 mg /L,aniline concentration 11 mg /L) were 95. 84%,100%,75. 72%,and 45. 39%,respectively. The oxidative deamination was the main degradation method for aniline under micro-aerobic condition. Simultaneously nitrification-denitrification( SND)process performed under micro-aerobic condition and about 20%-40% nitrogen was removed by SND. 展开更多

In this article, the dissolved oxygen(DO) concentration control problem in wastewater treatment process(WWTP) is studied.Unlike existing control strategies that control DO concentration at a fixed value, here we develop a different control framework.Under the proposed control framework, an intelligent control method of DO concentration based on reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm is presented to resolve the DO concentration control problem. By using the deep deterministic policy gradient(DDPG)algorithm, the DO concentration of the fifth tank in the activated sludge reactor can be adjusted dynamically. In addition, by designing two different reward functions and by analysing the relationships among effluent quality, energy consumption, and DO concentration, the target of energy-saving and emission-reducing is achieved. We aim to evaluate the quality of the Guanabara Bay sediments and the ecological changes due to the PETROBRAS crude oil leak in January 2000. Twenty-six sediment samples collected in July 2000 and in February 2001 were analyzed for pH, dissolved oxygen, and foraminiferal composition. In the northwest and central parts of the bay, low oxygen dissolved values are related to waste discharges with the dominance of Buliminella elegantissima. In winter, near Igua&ccedilu River, the pH of the sediment is low, therefore highly acidic. The acidity is responsible for the foraminiferal low diversity limiting the occurrence of species with fragile tests. On the other hand, thicker tests of Elphidium spp. disappeared last, therefore increasing its relative dominance in winter. In summer, this is a barren zone. The explanation lies in the continuous dissolution of tests that culminated with the total disappearance of these microorganisms one year after the accident. 展开更多

The low net efficiency of oxy-fuel circulating fluidized bed(CFB)combustion is mainly due to the addition of air separation unit(ASU)and carbon dioxide compression and purification unit(CPU).High oxygen concentration is one of the effective methods to improve the net efficiency of oxy-fuel combustion technology in CFB.In this research,a series of calculation and simulation were carried out based on Aspen Plus platform to provide valuable information for further investigation on the CFB oxy-fuel combustion system with high oxygen concentration(40%,50%).A CFB oxy-fuel combustion system model with high oxygen concentration was established including ASU,CPU and CFB oxy-fuel combustion and heat exchange unit.Based on the simulation data,energy and exergy efficiency were analyzed to obtain the following results.The cross-sectional area of furnace and tail flue of 50%CFB oxy-fuel combustion boiler are 43%and 56%of the original size respectively,reducing the construction and investment cost effectively.With the increase of oxygen concentration,the net efficiency of power generation increased significantly,reaching 24.85%and increasing by 6.09%under the condition of 50%oxy-fuel combustion.The total exergy loss increases with the increase of oxygen concentration.In addition,the exergy loss of radiation heat transfer is far higher than convection heat transfer. 展开更多

Simultaneous nitrification and denitrification(SND),which is more economical compared with the tradi-tional method for nitrogen removal,is studied in this paper.In order to find the suitable conditions of this process,a mixed flow activated sludge system under low oxygen concentration is investigated,and some key control parameters are exam-ined for nitrogen removal from synthetic wastewater.The results show that SND is accessible when oxygen concentra-tion is 0.3-0.8 mg/L.The nitrogen removal rate can be obtained up to 66.7%with solids retention time(SRT)of 45 d,C/N value of 10,and F/M ratio of 0.1 g COD/(g MLSS·d).Theoretical analysis indicates that SND is a physical phenomenon and governed by oxygen diffusion in flocs. 展开更多

An experimental study on the ignition of single coal particles at low oxygen concentrations (XO_(2)<21%) was conducted using a tube furnace. The surface temperature (Ts) and the center temperature (Tc) of the coal particles were obtained from the images taken by an infrared camera and thermocouples respectively. The ignition processes were recorded by a high-speed camera at different XO_(2) values and furnace temperatures Tw. Compared with literature experimental data obtained at a high XO_(2) value, the ignition delay time τi decreases more rapidly as XO_(2) increases at the low XO_(2) region. The responses of Ts and Tc to the variation of XO_(2) are different: Ts decreases while Tc remains nearly constant with increasing XO_(2) at a low XO_(2) value. In addition, τi is less sensitive to Tw while the ignition temperature Ti is more sensitive to Tw at a low XO_(2) value than in air. Observations of the position of flame front evolution illustrate that the ignition of a coal particle may change from a homogeneous mode to a heterogeneous or combined ignition mode as XO_(2) decreases. At a low XO_(2) value, buoyancy plays a more significant role in sweeping away the released volatiles during the ignition process. 展开更多

SiO_xN_y films with different oxygen concentrations were fabricated by reactive magnetron sputtering,and the resistive switching characteristics and conduction mechanism of Cu/SiO_xN_y/ITO devices were investigated.The Cu/SiO_xN_y/ITO device with SiO_xN_y deposited in 0.8-sccm O_2 flow shows a reliable resistive switching behavior,including good endurance and retention properties.As the conductivity of SiO_xN_y increases with the increase of the oxygen content dynamical electron trapping and detrapping is suggested to be the conduction mechanism.The temperature dependent I-V measurement indicates that the carrier transport can be ascribed to the hopping conduction rather than the metallic conductive filament. 展开更多
