This study aimed to investigate the dose-effect of iron on growth performance, antioxidant function.intestinal morphology, and mRNA expression of jejunal tight junction protein in 1-to21-d-old yellow-feathered broilers.A total of 7201-d-old yellow-feathered maleb roilers were allocated to 9 treatments with 8 replicate cages of 10 birds per cage. The dietary treatments were consisted of a basal diet(contained 79.6 mg Fe kg^(-1))supplemented with 0,20,40,60,80,160,320,640,and 1,280 mg Fe kg^(-1)in the form of FeSO_(4)·7H_(2)O.Compared with the birds in the control group, birds supplemented with 20mg Fe kg^(-1)had higher average daily gain(ADG)(P<0.0001).Adding 640 and 1,280 mg Fe kg^(-1)significantly decreased ADG(P<0.0001)and average daily feed intake(ADFI)(P<0.0001)compared with supplementation of 20mg Fe kg^(-1).Malondialdehyde(MDA)concentration in plasma and duodenum increased linearly(P<0.0001),but MDA concentration in liver and jejunum increased linearly(P<0.05)or quadratically(P<0.05)with increased dietary Fe concentration. The villus height(VH)in duodenum and jejunum, and the ratio of villus height to crypt depth(V/C)in duodenum decreased linearly(P?0.05)as dietary Feincreased. As dietary Fe increased, the jejunal relative mRNA abundance of claudin-1 decreased linearly(P=0.001),but the jejunal relative mRNA abundance of zona occludens-1(ZO-1)and occludin decreased linearly(P?0.05)or quadratically(P?0.05).Compared with the supplementation of 20 mg Fe kg^(-1),the supplementation of640 mg Fe kg^(-1)or higher increased(P?0.05)MDA concentrations in plasma, duodenum, and jejunum, decreased VH in the duodenum and jejunum, and the addition of 1,280 mg Fe kg^(-1)reduced(P?0.05)the jejunal tight junction protein(claudin-1,ZO-1,occludin)mRNA abundance. In summary,640 mg of supplemental Fe kg^(-1)or greater was associated with decreased growth performance, increased oxidative stress, disrupted intestinal morphology, and reduced mRNA expression of jejunal tight junction protein. 展开更多

It has been reported that fresh edible rice has more bioactive compounds and its protein is easier to digest and has lower hypoallergenic than mature rice. In this paper, the changes in structure and functional properties of proteins at five different stages, including early milky stage(EMS), middle milky stage(MMS), late milky stage(LMS), waxy ripe stage(WS)and ripening stage(RS), during the seed development were investigated. It was found that with the seed developing, the molecular weight of fresh rice protein gradually become larger while the secondary structure changed from the highest content of disordered structure at MMS to the highest content of ordered structure at RS, which affect the surface hydrophobicity and then the functional properties of proteins, including foaming properties, emulsifying properties and oil holding capacity. Fresh rice protein at MMS has the strongest surface hydrophobicity while fresh edible rice protein at RS has the strongest oil holding capability. The results of our study can provide a theoretical basis for the application of fresh rice protein in the food industry and help to develop new fresh edible rice food. 展开更多

Patients with mild traumatic brain injury have a diverse clinical presentation, and the underlying pathophysiology remains poorly understood.Magnetic resonance imaging is a non-invasive technique that has been widely utilized to investigate neuro biological markers after mild traumatic brain injury. This approach has emerged as a promising tool for investigating the pathogenesis of mild traumatic brain injury.G raph theory is a quantitative method of analyzing complex networks that has been widely used to study changes in brain structure and function. However, most previous mild traumatic brain injury studies using graph theory have focused on specific populations, with limited exploration of simultaneous abnormalities in structural and functional connectivity.Given that mild traumatic brain injury is the most common type of traumatic brain injury encounte red in clinical practice, further investigation of the patient characteristics and evolution of structural and functional connectivity is critical. In the present study,we explored whether abnormal structural and functional connectivity in the acute phase could serve as indicators of longitudinal changes in imaging data and cognitive function in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. In this longitudinal study,we enrolled 46 patients with mild traumatic brain injury who were assessed within 2 wee ks of injury,as well as 36 healthy controls.Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging data were acquired for graph theoretical network analysis. In the acute phase, patients with mild traumatic brain injury demonstrated reduced structural connectivity in the dorsal attention network.More than 3 months of followup data revealed signs of recovery in structural and functional connectivity,as well as cognitive function,in 22 out of the 46 patients.Furthermore, better cognitive function was associated with more efficient networks. Finally, our data indicated that small-worldness in the acute stage could serve as a predictor of longitudinal changes in connectivity in patients with mild traumatic brain injury. These findings highlight the importance of integrating structural and functional connectivity in unde rstanding the occurrence and evolution of mild traumatic brain injury.Additionally, exploratory analysis based on subnetworks could serve a predictive function in the prognosis of patients with mild traumatic brain injury. 展开更多

Food allergens are mainly naturally-occurring proteins with immunoglobulin E(IgE)-binding epitopes.Understanding the structural and immunogenic characteristics of allergenic proteins is essential in assessing whether and how food processing techniques reduce allergenicity. We here discuss the impacts of food processing technologies on the modification of physicochemical, structural, and immunogenic properties of allergenic proteins.Detection techniques for characterizing changes in these properties of food allergens are summarized.Food processing helps to reduce allergenicity by aggregating or denaturing proteins, which masks, modifies,or destroys antigenic epitopes, whereas,it cannot eliminate allergenicity completely, and sometimes even improves allergenicity by exposing new epitopes. Moreover, most food processing techniques have been tested on purified food allergens rather than food products due to potential interference of other food components. We provide guidance for further development of processing operations that can decrease the allergenicity of allergenic food proteins without negatively impacting the nutritional profile. 展开更多

Weighted total least squares(WTLS)have been regarded as the standard tool for the errors-in-variables(EIV)model in which all the elements in the observation vector and the coefficient matrix are contaminated with random errors. However,in many geodetic applications, some elements are error-free and some random observations appear repeatedly in different positions in the augmented coefficient matrix. It is called the linear structured EIV(LSEIV)model. Two kinds of methods are proposed for the LSEIV model from functional and stochastic modifications. On the one hand, the functional part of the LSEIV model is modified into the errors-in-observations(EIO)model.On the other hand, the stochastic model is modified by applying the Moore-Penrose inverse of the cofactor matrix. The algorithms are derived through the Lagrange multipliers method and linear approximation. The estimation principles and iterative formula of the parameters are proven to be consistent. The first-order approximate variance-covariance matrix(VCM)of the parameters is also derived.A numerical example is given to compare the performances of our proposed three algorithms with the STLS approach.Afterwards, the least squares(LS),total least squares(TLS)and linear structured weighted total least squares(LSWTLS)solutions are compared and the accuracy evaluation formula is proven to be feasible and effective. Finally, the LSWTLS is applied to the field of deformation analysis, which yields a better result than the traditional LS and TLS estimations. 展开更多

The current study was performed to evaluate the liver function status as well as molecular characterization of the recovered worms in rats experimentally infected with F. hepatica. Sixteen male Wister rats aged 30 days were randomly allocated into two groups (n = 8). The first group was infected orally with 15 viable encysted metacercaria of F. hepatica per animal. The other group was kept non-infected (control group). At zero time (before infection), the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th and 14th weeks post-infection (WPI), blood and serum samples were collected via puncture of retro-orbital plexus of veins from each rat. Serum enzyme level (AST and ALT) and total protein were measured, and the serum protein profile was carried out using agarose gel electrophoresis. During the period of the experiment, serum ALT and AST activities and serum total globulins significantly increased while serum total proteins and albumin markedly decreased in the infected group. On the 14th WPI, the data of the electropherogram showed that globulin fractions (α1-, β- and γ-globulin) levels were significantly increased while α2-globulin was markedly decreased in the infected group. The molecular analysis confirmed the amplification of the ITS1, ITS2 and NDI genes of F. hepatica recovered from the infected liver of rats with amplicon sizes of 630, 510 and 560 bp, respectively. Sequencing of the amplified ITS gene resulted in the determination of 3 strains (PP108836, PP108837, and PP108838). Also, analysis of the ITS2 gene resulted in obtaining 3 isolates under the accession numbers (PP109065, PP109066, and PP109067). In conclusion, fasciolosis in the rat model is suitable for routine experimental infections and caused a pronounced liver dysfunction with discharging of the Fasciola eggs in the faeces and the development of adult stages in the bile ducts. Furthermore, molecular techniques are a sensitive tool for the identification and characterisation of the Fasciola parasite. 展开更多

Cyclo[18]carbon has received considerable attention thanks to its novel geometric configuration and special electronic structure.Superalkalis have low ionization energy.Doping a superalkali in cyclo[18]carbon is an effective method to improve the optical properties of the system because considerable electron transfer occurs. In this paper, the geometry, bonding properties, electronic structure, absorption spectrum, and nonlinear optical(NLO)properties of superalkaline M_(3)O(M=Li,Na)-doped cyclo[18]carbon were studied by using density functional theory.M_(3)O and the C_(18) rings are not coplanar. The C_(18) ring still exhibits alternating long and short bonds. The charge transfer between M_(3)O and C_(18) forms stable[M_(3)O]+[C_(18)]-ionic complexes.C_(18)M_(3)O(M=Li,Na)shows striking optical nonlinearity,i.e.,their first-and second-order hyperpolarizability(βvec andγ||)increase considerably atλ=1907 nm and 1460 nm. 展开更多

The ex-situ incorporation of the secondary SiC reinforcement, along with the in-situ incorporation of the tertiary and quaternary Mg_(3)N_(2) and Si_(3)N_(4) phases,in the primary matrix of Mg_(2)Si is employed in order to provide ultimate wear resistance based on the laser-irradiation-induced inclusion of N_(2) gas during laser powder bed fusion. This is substantialized based on both the thermal diffusion-and chemical reactionbased metallurgy of the Mg_(2)Si–SiC/nitride hybrid composite. This study also proposes a functional platform for systematically modulating a functionally graded structure and modeling build-direction-dependent architectonics during additive manufacturing. This strategy enables the development of a compositional gradient from the center to the edge of each melt pool of the Mg_(2)Si–SiC/nitride hybrid composite.Consequently, the coefficient of friction of the hybrid composite exhibits a 309.3%decrease to–1.67 compared to–0.54 for the conventional nonreinforced Mg_(2)Si structure, while the tensile strength exhibits a 171.3%increase to 831.5 MPa compared to 485.3 MPa for the conventional structure. This outstanding mechanical behavior is due to the(1)the complementary and synergistic reinforcement effects of the SiC and nitride compounds, each of which possesses an intrinsically high hardness,and(2)the strong adhesion of these compounds to the Mg_(2)Si matrix despite their small sizes and low concentrations. 展开更多

Oriented ligand immobilization is one of the most effective strategies used in the design and construction of a high-capacity protein A chromatography. In this work, cysteine was introduced as anchoring sites by substituting a specific residue on Helix Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and at C-terminus of antibody binding domain Z from protein A, respectively, to investigate structural evolution and binding behavior of protein A ligands at liquid-solid interfaces. Among the three affinity dextran-coated Fe_(3)O_(4) magnetic nanoparticles(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx MNPs), affinity MNPs with the immobilized ligand via N11C on Helix Ⅰ(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs) had the highest helical content, and MNPs with the immobilized ligand via G29C on Helix Ⅱ(Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(2) MNPs) had the lowest helical content at the same pHs. It was attributed to less electrostatic attraction of ligand to negatively charged surface on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs because of less positive charged residues on Helix Ⅰ(K6) than Helix Ⅱ(R27/K35). Among the three affinity MNPs, moreover, the highest affinity to immunoglobulin G(IgG) binding was observed on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs in isothermal titration calorimetry measurement, further validating greater structural integrity of the ligand on Fe_(3)O_(4)@Dx-Z_(1) MNPs. Finally, the study of IgG binding on MNPs and 96-well plates showed that anchoring sites for ligand immobilization had distinct influences on IgG binding and IgG-mediated antigen binding. This work illustrated that anchoring sites of the ligands had a striking significance for the molecular structure of the ligand at liquid-solid interfaces and raised an important implication for the design and optimization of protein A chromatography and protein A-based immunoassay analysis. 展开更多

The microwave treatment is commonly applied to flaxseed to release nutrients, inactivate enzymes, remove cyanogens, and intensify flavors. The current study aimed to explore the influences of microwave exposure on the antioxidant and interfacial properties of flaxseed protein isolates(FPI), focusing on the altering composition and molecular structure. The results showed that after microwave exposure(700 W, 1–5 min), more compact assembly of storage proteins and subsequent permeation by membrane fragments of oil bodies occurred for cold-pressing flaxseed flours. Moreover, the particle sizes of FPI was progressively reduced with the decrement ranged from 37.84 to 60.66%(P<0.05), whereas the zeta potential values initially decreased and then substantially recovered during 1–5 min of microwave exposure. The conformation unfolding, chain cross-linking, and depolymerization were sequentially induced for FPI based on the analysis of fluorescence emission spectra, secondary structure, and protein subunit profiles, thereby affecting the dispersion or aggregation properties between albumin and globulin fractions in FPI. Microwave exposure retained specific phenolic acids and superior in vitro antioxidant activities of FPI. The inferior gas–water interface absorption and the loose/porous assembly structure were observed for the foams prepared by FPI, concurrent with obviously shrinking foaming properties upon microwave exposure. Improving oil–water interface activities of FPI produced the emulsion droplets with descending sizes and dense interface coating, which were then mildly destabilized due to the lipid leakage and weakened rheological behavior with microwave exposure extended to 5 min. Our findings elucidated that microwave treatment could tailor the application functionality of protein fractions in flaxseed based on their in situ structural remodeling. 展开更多

Non-renewable fossil fuels have led to serious problems such as global warming, environmental pollution, etc.Oxygen electrocatalysis including oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)plays a central role in clean energy conversion, enabling a number of sustainable processes for future air battery technologies.Fluorine,as the most electronegative element(4.0)not only can induce more efficient regulation for the electronic structure, but also can bring more abundant defects and other novel effects in materials selection and preparation for favorable catalysis with respect to the other nonmetal elements. However,an individual and comprehensive overview of fluorine-containing functional materials for oxygen electrocatalysis field is still blank. Therefore,it is very meaningful to review the recent progresses of fluorine-containing oxygen electrocatalysts. In this review,we first systematically summarize the controllable preparation methods and their possible development directions based on fluorine-containing materials from four preparation methods.Due to the strong electron-withdrawing properties of fluorine, its control of the electronic structure can effectively enhance the oxygen electrocatalytic activity of the materials. In addition, the catalytic enhancement effect of fluorine on carbonbased materials also includes the prevent oxidation and the layer peeling, and realizes the precise atomic control. And the catalytic improvement mechanism of fluorine containing metal-based compounds also includes the hydration of metal site, the crystal transformation, and the oxygen vacancy induction. Then, based on their various dimensions(0D–3D),we also have summarized the advantages of different morphologies on oxygen electrocatalytic performances. Finally, the prospects and possible future researching direction of F-containing oxygen electrocatalysts are presented(e.g.,novel pathways, advanced methods for measurement and simulation, field assistance and multi-functions).The review is considered valuable and helpful in exploring the novel designs and mechanism analyses of advanced fluorine-containing electrocatalysts. 展开更多

A photon structure is advanced based on the experimental evidence and the vector potential quantization at a single photon level. It is shown that the photon is neither a point particle nor an infinite wave but behaves rather like a local “wave-corpuscle” extended over a wavelength, occupying a minimum quantization volume and guided by a non-local vector potential real wave function. The quantized vector potential oscillates over a wavelength with circular left or right polarization giving birth to orthogonal magnetic and electric fields whose amplitudes are proportional to the square of the frequency. The energy  and momentum are carried by the local wave-corpuscle guided by the non-local vector potential wave function suitably normalized. 展开更多

We analyzed the structures and functions of the Caspr family–CNTNAP1(Caspr1), CNTNAP2(Caspr2), CNTNAP3(Caspr3), CNTNAP4(Caspr4) and CNTNAP5(Caspr5), Caspr1–5 is not only involved in the formation of myelinated axons, but also participates in maintaining the stability of adjacent connections. Caspr1 participates in the formation, differentiation, and proliferation of neurons and astrocytes, and in motor control and cognitive function. We also analyzed the relationship between the Caspr family and neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis, and autoimmune encephalitis. However, the effects of Caspr on disease course and prognosis remain poorly understood. The effects of Caspr on disease diagnosis and treatment need further investigation. 展开更多

To further study the biological function and mechanism of ZP3 in domestic canine( Canis lupus familiaris),the coding sequence( CDS) of ZP3 gene was searched from NCBI database using bioinformatics method, and further transformed into protein sequence via MAGE software. The primary, secondary and tertiary structure of protein was predicted with Ex PASy,BLAST and DNA Star bioinformatics online software and program; the evolution and selected sites of ZP3 protein extracted from 11 species were analyzed using PAML software; the conservation of ZP3 protein gene was analyzed with Predictprotein and Weblogo program; the tertiary structure of protein was edited by Python and Py MOL. The results showed that canine ZP3 gene encoded 426 amino acids, and the encoding product was a hydrophilic transmembrane protein with signal peptide; the 1^(st)-23^(rd)amino acids were signal peptide areas, and transmembrane domain distributed in the α-helix area of the 386th-408 thamino acids; four loci were affected by phosphorylation, and these phosphorylation sites might be associated with signal transduction; there were nine protein binding sites on ZP domain; a high variation region was found in 325-385 section of ZP3,and most of phosphorylation and selected amino acid sites were distributed in this area. This indicated that the area had experienced rapid evolution, suggesting that ZP domain and the high variation area might be involved in interaction of sperm and egg. 展开更多

This study was to investigate the structure and rat fecal microbial fermentation properties of a polysaccharide fraction(PHP2)isolated from the red marine alga Porphyra haitanensis.PHP2 was characterized as a sulfated glucogalactan, with a hypothetical backbone structure of→4)Gα(1→6)G4 Sβ(1→4)Glc(1→and a side chain of Man(1→6)Glc.PHP2 had an irregular spherical chain conformation. The 16 S r RNA sequence analysis revealed that PHP2 modulated the rat fecal micro-flora composition, with a similar effect to inulin, changing the dominant genus(Lactobacillus and Escherichia-Shigella)and promoting the growth of organisms that degrade sulfur-containing polysaccharides, such as Desulfovibrio,Ruminococcaceae_UCG-005,and Ruminococcus_2.PHP2 can promote production of acetic, propionic and butyric acid by rat fecal micro-flora.Prediction of metabolic function suggested that PHP2 could modulate cholesterol metabolism. The sulfated glucogalactan fermentation behavior may be associated with its monosaccharide composition, chain branching and chain conformation.PHP2 appeared to have considerable potential as functional food, and was associated with sulfur-containing polysaccharides in general. 展开更多

Background Dietary bamboo leaf flavonoids(BLFs)are rarely used in poultry production, and it is unknown whether they influence meat texture profile, perceived color,or microstructure. Results A total of 720 one-day-old Arbor Acres broilers were supplemented with a basal diet with 20 mg bacitracin/kg,50 mg BLFs/kg,or 250 mg BLFs/kg or without additions.Data showed that the dietary BLFs significantly(P<0.05)changed growth performance and the texture profile. In particular,BLFs increased birds’average daily gain and average daily feed intake, decreased the feed:gain ratio and mortality rate, improved elasticity of breast meat, enhanced the gumminess of breast and leg meat, and decreased the hardness of breast meat. Moreover,a significant(P<0.05)increase in redness(a*)and chroma(c*)of breast meat and c*and water-holding capacity of leg meat was found in BLF-supplemented broilers compared with control broilers. In addition,BLFs supplementation significantly decreased(P<0.05)theβ-sheet ratio and serum malondialdehyde and increased theβ-turn ratio of protein secondary structure, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase of breast meat and total antioxidant capacity and catalase of serum.Based on the analysis of untargeted metabolome,BLFs treatment considerably altered 14 metabolites of the breast meat, including flavonoids, amino acids, and organic acids,as well as phenolic and aromatic compounds. Conclusions Dietary BLFs supplementation could play a beneficial role in improving meat quality and sensory color in the poultry industry by changing protein secondary structures and modulating metabolites. 展开更多

Amblyopia is the most common cause of vision loss in children and can persist into adulthood in the absence of effective intervention.Previous clinical and neuroimaging studies have suggested that the neural mechanisms underlying strabismic amblyopia and anisometropic amblyopia may be different. Therefore,we performed a systematic review of magnetic resonance imaging studies investigating brain alterations in patients with these two subtypes of amblyopia;this study is registered with PROSPERO(registration ID:CRD42022349191).We searched three online databases(PubMed,EMBASE,and Web of Science) from inception to April 1,2022;39 studies with 633 patients(324patients with anisometropic amblyo pia and 309 patients with strabismic amblyopia) and 580 healthy controls met the inclusion criteria(e.g.,case-control designed, pee r-reviewed articles) and were included in this review. These studies highlighted that both strabismic amblyopia and anisometropic amblyopia patients showed reduced activation and distorted topological cortical activated maps in the striate and extrastriate co rtices during tas k-based functional magnetic resonance imaging with spatial-frequency stimulus and retinotopic representations, respectively;these may have arisen from abnormal visual experiences.Compensations for amblyopia that are reflected in enhanced spontaneous brain function have been reported in the early visual cortices in the resting state,as well as reduced functional connectivity in the dorsal pathway and structural connections in the ventral pathway in both anisometro pic amblyopia and strabismic amblyopia patients. The shared dysfunction of anisometro pic amblyopia and strabismic amblyopia patients, relative to controls,is also chara cterized by reduced spontaneous brain activity in the oculomotor co rtex, mainly involving the frontal and parietal eye fields and the cerebellu m;this may underlie the neural mechanisms of fixation instability and anomalous saccades in amblyopia. With regards to specific alterations of the two forms of amblyo pia, anisometropic amblyo pia patients suffer more microstructural impairments in the precortical pathway than strabismic amblyopia patients,as reflected by diffusion tensor imaging, and more significant dysfunction and structural loss in the ventral pathway.Strabismic amblyopia patients experience more attenuation of activation in the extrastriate co rtex than in the striate cortex when compared to anisometropic amblyopia patients. Finally, brain structural magnetic resonance imaging alterations tend to be lateralized in the adult anisometropic amblyopia patients, and the patterns of brain alterations are more limited in amblyopic adults than in childre n.In conclusion, magnetic resonance imaging studies provide important insights into the brain alterations underlying the pathophysiology of amblyopia and demonstrate common and specific alte rations in anisometropic amblyo pia and strabismic amblyopia patients;these alterations may improve our understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying amblyopia. 展开更多

CaO–SiO_(2)compounds compromise one of the most common series of oxide particles in liquid steels, which could significantly affect the service performance of the steels as crack initiation sites. However, the structural, electronic, and mechanical properties of the compounds in CaO–SiO_(2)system are still not fully clarified due to the difficulties in the experiments. In this study, a thorough investigation of these properties of CaO–SiO_(2)compound particles in steels was conducted based on first-principles density functional theory. Corresponding phases were determined by thermodynamic calculation, including gamma dicalcium silicate(γ-C2S), alpha-prime(L) dicalcium silicate(αL′-C2S), alpha-prime(H) dicalcium silicate(αH′-C2S), alpha dicalcium silicate(α-C2S), rankinite(C3S2), hatrurite(C3S), wollastonite(CS), and pseudowollastonite(Ps-CS). The results showed that the calculated crystal structures of the eight phases agree well with the experimental results. All the eight phases are stable according to the calculated formation energies, and γ-C2S is the most stable. O atom contributes the most to the reactivity of these phases. The Young’s modulus of the eight phases is in the range of 100.63–132.04 GPa. Poisson’s ratio is in the range of0.249–0.281. This study provided further understanding concerning the CaO–SiO_(2)compound particles in steels and fulfilled the corresponding property database, paving the way for inclusion engineering and design in terms of fracture-resistant steels. 展开更多
