It was found that the addition of K significantly enhanced the activity. A detailed kinetic study showed that the activation energies of the K-containing catalysts were lower than those of the K-free ones, particularly for catalysts with high Pt contents (51.6 k)/mol for 0.42K-2.0Pt/Al2O3 and 6:3.6 kJ/mol for 2.0Pt/Al2O3 ). The CO reaction orders were higher for the K-containing catalysts (about -0.2) than for the K-free ones (about -0.5), with the former having much lower equilibrium constants for CO adsorption than the latter. In situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy showed that surface CO desorption from the 0.42K-2.0Pt/Al2O3 catalyst was easier than from 2.0Pt/Al2O3. The promoting effect of K was therefore caused by weakening of the interactions between CO and surface Pt atoms. This decreased coverage of the catalyst with CO and facilitated competitive O2 chemisorption on the Pt surface, and significantly lowered the reaction barrier between chemisorbed CO and O2 species. 展开更多

A λ-MnO2 supported Pt nanocatalyst(5 wt.% Pt/λ-MnO2) was synthesized using a facile approach.X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), scanning electronic microscope(SEM), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), and energy disperse spectroscopy(EDS) were used for catalyst structure and morphology characterization, which showed that the metallic Pt particles were attached on a λ-MnO2 surface through the interaction between Pt and λ-MnO2.Cyclic voltammetry(CV) was used to test the catalytic activity of Pt/λ-MnO2 toward methanol oxidation, which showed that Pt/λ-MnO2 catalyst has much higher catalytic activity than baseline Pt/C catalyst. 展开更多

Compared with Pt/γ-Al_2O_3 during catalytic oxidation of benzene, Pt/Fe Sn O(OH)5 showed better catalytic activity. After characterization of the catalysts by XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, XPS, BET, TGA and DTA, we found most Pt could be reduced to metallic state when the hydroxyl catalyst was used as supporter, and the metallic Pt in Pt/Fe Sn O(OH)5 was more active than the oxidized Pt in Pt/γ-Al_2O_3 in catalytic oxidation of VOCs. Pt/FeSnO(OH)_5 shows both good catalytic activity and high stability, which may be a promising catalyst. This study may also be helpful for the design and fabrication of new catalysts. 展开更多

Direct ethanol fuel cell is a promising low temperature fuel cell, but its development is hindered by sluggish kinetics of anode catalysts for ethanol oxidation. Here a high efficient platinum/tin oxide/Graphene nanocomposite is synthesized through a facile and environmentally benign method. The structure and morphology are carefully characterized by X-ray diffraction and Transmission electron microscopy, showing a clear platinum/tin oxide heterostructure uniformly dispersed on graphene support. This catalyst demonstrates the highest activity among the reported catalysts and much higher durability towards ethanol oxidation compared to conventional platinum nanocatalysts. The ultrahigh activity originates from promoted removal of poisoning carbon monoxide immediate species on platinum due to a strong electronic donating effect from both tin oxide and graphene, which is fully supported by carbon monoxide stripping and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis. Our platinum/tin oxide/Graphene appears to be a promising candidate for ethanol oxidation electrocatalysts. 展开更多

Understanding how defect chemistry of oxide material influences the thermal stability of noble metal dopant ions plays an important role in designing high-performance heterogeneous catalytic systems. Here we use in-situ ambient-pressure X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(APXPS)to experimentally determine the role of grain boundary in the thermal stability of platinum doped cerium oxide(Pt/CeO_(2)).The grain boundaries were introduced in Pt/CeO_(2)thin films by pulsed laser deposition without significantly change of the surface microstructure. The defect level was tuned by the strain field obtained using a highly/low mismatched substrate. The Pt/CeO_(2)thin film models having well defined crystallographic properties but different grain boundary structural defect levels provide an ideal platform for exploring the evolution of Pt–O–Ce bond with changing the temperature in reducing conditions. We have direct demonstration and explanation of the role of Ce^(3+)induced by grain boundaries in enhancing Pt2+stability.We observe that the Pt^(2+)–O–Ce^(3+)bond provides an ideal coordinated site for anchoring of Pt^(2+)ions and limits the further formation of oxygen vacancies during the reduction with H_(2).Our findings demonstrate the importance of grain boundary in the atomic-scale design of thermally stable catalytic active sites. 展开更多

This study was focused on the influence of active oxygen on the performance of Pt/CeO2 catalysts for CO oxidation. A series of CeO2 supports with different contents of active oxygen were obtained by adding surfactant at different synthesis steps. 0.25 wt% Pt was loaded on these CeO2 supports by incipientwetness impregnation methods. The catalysts were characterized by N2 adsorption, X-ray diffraction(XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM), H2 temperature-programmed reduction(H2-TPR), dynamic oxygen storage capacity(DOSC) and in-situ DRIFTS technologies. For S-f supports, the surfactant was added into the solution before spray-drying in the synthesis process, which facilitates more active oxygen formation on the surface of CeO2. After loading Pt, the more active oxygen on CeO2 contributes to dispersing Pt species and enhancing the CO oxidation activity. As for the aged samples,Pt-R-h shows the highest activity above 190 ℃ because of the presence of more partly oxidized Pt^(δ+) species. Thus the activity is also influenced by the states of Pt and the Pt^(δ+) species may contribute to the high activity at elevated temperature. 展开更多

Advanced oxidation technologies are a friendly environmental approach for the remediation of industrial wastewaters. Here, one pot synthesis of mesoporous WO3 and WO3-graphene oxide(GO) nanocomposites has been performed through the sol–gel method. Then, platinum(Pt) nanoparticles were deposited onto the WO3 and WO3-GO nanocomposite through photochemical reduction to produce mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites. X-ray diffraction(XRD) findings exhibit a formation of monoclinic and triclinic WO3 phases. Transmission Electron Microscope(TEM) images of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited that WO3 nanoparticles are obviously agglomerated and the particle sizes of Pt and WO3 are ~ 10 nm and 20–50 nm, respectively. The mesoporous Pt/WO3 and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites were assessed for photocatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue(MB) as a probe molecule under visible light illumination. The findings showed that mesoporous Pt/WO3, WO3-GO and Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites exhibited much higher photocatalytic efficiencies than the pure WO3. The photodegradation rates by mesoporous Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites are 3, 2 and 1.15 times greater than those by mesoporous WO3, WO3-GO, and Pt/WO3, respectively. The key factors of the enhanced photocatalytic performance of Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites could be explained by the highly freedom electron transfer through the synergetic effect between WO3 and GO sheets, in addition to the Pt nanoparticles that act as active sites for O2 reduction, which suppresses the electron hole pair recombination in the Pt/WO3-GO nanocomposites. 展开更多
