This paper explores the relationship between resource constraints and innovation of new firms.Drawing upon the relevant literature,we incorporate resource constraints as the antecedent to the bricolage-innovation link...This paper explores the relationship between resource constraints and innovation of new firms.Drawing upon the relevant literature,we incorporate resource constraints as the antecedent to the bricolage-innovation link.Compared to prior studies that treated resource constraints as a one-dimensional variable,we operationalize it along two dimensions:knowledge constraints and financial constraints.Our argument posits that knowledge constraints and financial constraints act as catalysts for innovation in new firms,with bricolage serving as a mediating role.To test our hypotheses,we conducted a survey involving 183 entrepreneurs in the United States.The data analysis demonstrates that bricolage fully mediates the relationship between knowledge con‐straints and innovation and partially mediates the relationship between financial constraints and innovation.Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.展开更多
The Yangtze River Basin’s water resource utilization efficiency(WUE)and scientific and technological innovation level(STI)are closely connected,and the comprehension of these relationships will help to improve WUE an...The Yangtze River Basin’s water resource utilization efficiency(WUE)and scientific and technological innovation level(STI)are closely connected,and the comprehension of these relationships will help to improve WUE and promote local economic growth and conservation of water.This study uses 19 provinces and regions along the Yangtze River’s mainstream from 2009 to 2019 as its research objects and uses a Vector Auto Regression(VAR)model to quantitatively evaluate the spatiotemporal evolution of the coupling coordination degree(CCD)between the two subsystems of WUE and STI.The findings show that:(1)Both the WUE and STI in the Yangtze River Basin showed an upward trend during the study period,but the STI effectively lagged behind the WUE;(2)The CCD of the two subsystems generally showed an upward trend,and the CCD of each province was improved to varying degrees,but the majority of regions did not develop a high-quality coordination stage;(3)The CCD of the two systems displayed apparent positive spatial autocorrelation in the spatial correlation pattern,and there were only two types:high-high(H-H)urbanization areas and low-low(L-L)urbanization areas;(4)The STI showed no obvious response to the impact of the WUE,while the WUE responded greatly to the STI,and both of them were highly dependent on themselves.Optimizing their interaction mechanisms should be the primary focus of high-quality development in the basin of the Yangtze River in the future.These results give the government an empirical basis to enhance the WUE and promote regional sustainable development.展开更多

The 2000s has witnessed increasing interests in cities′role of innovation in the era of knowledge-based economy.Compared with substantial empirical analysis on the world city hierarchy of innovation,this paper attemp...The 2000s has witnessed increasing interests in cities′role of innovation in the era of knowledge-based economy.Compared with substantial empirical analysis on the world city hierarchy of innovation,this paper attempts to examine the national urban hierarchy of innovation capability in China,in terms of ranking systems,spatial pattern and inter-city linkages of knowledge during the post-reform period since the late 1970s.Based on quantitative analysis such as principal component factor analysis and clustering analysis,this paper identifies the five-tier hierarchy of in-novation,which is headed by Beijing and Shanghai,followed by the capital cities of each province and regional centre cities.The development of China′s urban hierarchy of innovation capability has been driven by such factors as the scale of innovation,scientific scale,innovation potential and innovation environment.The paper further investigates the inter-city linkages of knowledge measured by the number of co-authored papers among the cities.Beijing is positioned in the central position of the knowledge diffusion and knowledge cooperation innovation.More knowledge diffusion among high level cities has occurred than that among the low level cities as well as between the low level cities and high level cities,and provincial capital cities and the regional central cities.展开更多

Through analyzing the relationship between an activity and its’ supporting resource, the model trades off the time, cost and quality by changing intensity of labor or changing the types of supporting resource or units of labor of resource in a certain time respectively according to the different types of its’ supporting resources. Through contrasting this method with the model of unit time cost corresponding to different quality levels and inter-related linear programming model of time, cost and quality for process optimizing, it is shown that this model does not only cover the above two models but also can describe some conditions the above two models can not express. This study was conducted to assess the influence of quantit...A combination of factors, including inadequate interactive influence of professional human resource needs, contributes to low adoption of forest innovations. This study was conducted to assess the influence of quantity of professional human resource needs on adoption of forest innovations across relevant institutions in Kenya. The study considered 51 main institutions involved in, or support conservation activities, of which 33 were public, 14 non-governmental, and 4 private. Purposive sampling was used due to the heterogeneity of the institutions involved in conservation. Primary data were collected using a structured questionnaire. A quartile graph-based quantitative model was used to establish the differences in capacity variation expressed as expected variation region or the common cause and the unexpected variation region or the special cause. The latter should be investigated and acted upon. Statistical analysis involved Levene’s Test of Equality of Variances. Embracing both approaches confirmed the model as an appropriate quantitative analytical framework for assessing and articulating elements of institutional capacity, and that quantity of professional human capital (P < 0.05) is key to influencing adoption of forest innovations in Kenya. The study reiterates that to overcome professional capacity gaps and respond to conservation paradigm shift, quantity was relevant and was an imperative policy issue.展开更多

To look through innovation management in small project-based firms,such as software engineering companies,which are service firms that conduct projects for their clients,capability maturity model integration(CMMI)is i...To look through innovation management in small project-based firms,such as software engineering companies,which are service firms that conduct projects for their clients,capability maturity model integration(CMMI)is introduced.It is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes.Taking ABC Software Company as an example,the performances before and after the introduction of CMMI in the firm were compared.The results indicated that after two years of application,the productivity increased 92%,and the ability of detecting errors improved 26.45%;while the rate of faults and the cost of software development dropped 12.45% and 77.55%,respectively.To conclude,small project-based firms benefit a lot if they take CMMI into their process of innovation management,particularly for those R&D firms,since the implementation of CMMI leads them to a promising future with higher efficiency and better effects.展开更多

文摘Based on panel data such as 2009-2018 R&D expenditures,full-time equivalent of R&D personnel,Number of valid invention patents,and technology market turnover in China's Shanghai,Jiangsu,Zhejiang,and Anhui provinces(cities),using Griliches-Jaffe knowledge to produce Function,construct Time fixed effects model,conduct empirical research on the main factors affecting the technological innovation capability of the Yangtze River Delta,focusing on the relationship between the technological market and technological innovation capability.The results show that human capital and R&D expenditures have a significant and positive impact on the technological innovation capacity of the Yangtze River Delta.Although the technology market has a positive effect on the scientific and technological innovation capacity of the Yangtze River Delta,the effect is not significant.Propose countermeasures and suggestions to strengthen the influence of the technology market on technological innovation.
文摘To look through innovation management in small project-based firms,such as software engineering companies,which are service firms that conduct projects for their clients,capability maturity model integration(CMMI)is introduced.It is a process improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes.Taking ABC Software Company as an example,the performances before and after the introduction of CMMI in the firm were compared.The results indicated that after two years of application,the productivity increased 92%,and the ability of detecting errors improved 26.45%;while the rate of faults and the cost of software development dropped 12.45% and 77.55%,respectively.To conclude,small project-based firms benefit a lot if they take CMMI into their process of innovation management,particularly for those R&D firms,since the implementation of CMMI leads them to a promising future with higher efficiency and better effects.

文摘According to this problem that every regional technology innovation of SMEs and innovation environment are different, the method on secondary relative evaluation to measure the innovation capability of SMEs in 9 provinces and 3 municipalities is developed in this paper. First the Fuzzy Integral Comprehensive Evaluation is adopted to measure the comprehensive index states of technological innovation of SMEs in different regions, and then the BCC model in Data Envelopment Analysis is used to calculate the secondary relative evaluation of regional technology innovation capability in SMEs, so that this method not only settles the relevance between indexes influencing regional technology innovation capability of SMEs, but also eliminates the influence of objective basic condition, and then provides bases for every region to make out policies and rules on technological innovation of SMEs and for enterprise to establish relevant strategy of technological innovation.
文摘In this paper,IT Industry’s innovation capability is considered to be the innovation output capability after complex operation of industry input in industry system.In this complex process,R&D personnel input and R&D expense input are un-substitutable,and for evaluation of innovation capability,innovation input and innovation output also are un-substitutable.Based on this theory,an evaluation model of sustaining strength index is put forward.Considering both input scale and output contribution of IT industry’s innovation system,this model reflects the un-substitutability of every evaluation aspects.The measurement result not only shows the industry innovation capability,but also reflects the support degree to economy.At last the data of IT industry in China are provided between 1994 and 2004 for empirical study.
