Some studies recommended flu and pneumococcal vaccines separately or in combination to reduce respiratory diseases occurrence and its morbidity. These effects are not clear in afflicted Hajj pilgrims. Objective: This is a cohort study that investigates the effects of above-mentioned vaccines each or their combination on respiratory syndromes and their consequences among Iranian pilgrims in Mecca. Method: The participants were 295 Iranian pilgrims from the beginning to the end of the journey. They were systematically observed for getting afflicted with a respiratory syndrome or not. In this study, we have assessed the effects of flu and pneumococcal vaccines on respiratory disease occurrence and on 8 clinical consequences including as: the duration of fever, duration of cough, duration of bed rest, presence of post nasal discharge and dirty sputum, the total disease length, and the number of referrals to the hospital, physician’s visits and complications. The data for this study were gathered through a questionnaire with 14 basic questions and 60 choices. This was processed using the SPSS software of 11.5 version, T- and Chi-square tests. Results: The results showed no significant correlations between the above-mentioned factors and vaccination with one or both flu and pneumovax-23 except for the duration of coughs which was significantly reduced in all cases (p < 0.01) and also decreased complications of the disease (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The study suggests the high-risk groups, should be vaccinated with combination of flu and pneumovax-23 vaccines in Hajj.展开更多

Methods: The database was composed by daily reports on visits by children with respiratory diseases in health units of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the municipality of Campo Grande, MS, Brazil, by daily levels of ozone concentration measured by the Department of Physics, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, and by daily measurements of temperature and relative humidity provided by the Agricultural Research Corporation-EMBRAPA Gado de Corte-MS. The relationship between respiratory diseases and ozone concentration was investigated through Generalized Linear Models (GLM) using the multiple Poisson regression model. The significance level α = 5% was adopted for all tests. Results: It was observed that the association between ozone (lagged by three time-steps) and attendance for respiratory diseases in children was statistically significant. The bio-meteorological variable Wind-adjusted Effective Temperature (lagged by four time-steps) was also significantly associated with diseases. Conclusions: The results suggest that the surface ozone concentration promotes adverse effects on children’s health even when pollutant levels are below the amounts permitted by law.展开更多

The present comprehensive study was conducted to assess sources of respiratory disorders in Hajj pilgrims. Method: In this prospective observational study, blood samples of 130 pilgrims were taken for assessment of serum levels of infectious and allergic sources. The measurement of IgA, IgG, IgM was used for assessment of infectious reactions against microbial antigens, NBT test was employed to assess phagocytic functions, and the measurement of gamma interferon was used for assessing immunity status against infections. Also, measurement of IgE and IL-4 was applied as two markers for assessing allergic reactions. The ELISA test was also used to assess serum levels of immunoglobulin A, G, M, E, IL-4 and gamma interferon before and three weeks after returning from Hajj ceremony. All of the volunteers were followed up along the trip and the involved pilgrim’s characteristics were recorded. Results: The present study showed no significant change in the level of allergic biomarkers including IgE and IL-4, however the mean levels of IgM, gamma Interferon and NBT test were increased after the trip compared with before that. Conclusion: Infections play a major role in occurrence of respiratory disorders among Hajj pilgrims and thus the role of allergic sources is doubtful.展开更多

Identification of spatial patterns in health events is an efficient tool to guide public policies in environmental health. However, only few studies have considered spatial pattern analysis which is considered the evaluation of spatial autocorrelation, degree of autocorrelation and dependence behavior in terms of distances. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose a set of procedures to evaluate the spatial patterns of cardiorespiratory diseases in the Federal District, Brazil. Specifically, our proposal will be based on four questions: a) is the spatial distribution of all patients clustered, random or dispersed? b) what is the degree of clustering for either high values or low values of patients? c) what is the spatial dependence behavior? d) considering the spatial variation, at what distance does the type of distribution (cluster, random or disperse) begin to change? We chose four methods to answer these questions Global Moran’s I (question “a”);Getis-Ord General G (question “b”);semivariogram analysis (question “c”);and multi-distance spatial cluster-K-function (question “d”). Our results suggest that there is a different behavior for people up to 5 years old (cluster, p < 0.01), especially in distances below 2.5 km. For people above 59 years old, cluster is significant just in short distances (<200 m). For other age groups, the spatial distribution is basically random. Our study showed that it was possible to capture evidences of health disparities in the Federal District.展开更多

The prediction model of number of patients with respiratory diseases in each month was established to forecast number of patients with respiratory diseases using meteorological data. The results show that people suffered from respiratory diseases more frequently in January and from June to September in Xuzhou. Meteorological factors correlated highly with number of patients with respiratory diseases are different due to the difference in climatic characteristics among various seasons. The prediction model could obtain good effect.展开更多

文摘Real-time disease prediction has emerged as the main focus of study in the field of computerized medicine.Intelligent disease identification framework can assist medical practitioners in diagnosing disease in a way that is reliable, consistent, and timely, successfully lowering mortality rates, particularly during endemics and pandemics. To prevent this pandemic’s rapid and widespread,it is vital to quickly identify, confine, and treat affected individuals. The need for auxiliary computer-aided diagnostic(CAD)systems has grown.Numerous recent studies have indicated that radiological pictures contained critical information regarding the COVID-19 virus.Utilizing advanced convolutional neural network(CNN)architectures in conjunction with radiological imaging makes it possible to provide rapid, accurate, and extremely useful susceptible classifications. This research work proposes a methodology for real-time detection of COVID-19 infections caused by the Corona Virus. The purpose of this study is to offer a two-way COVID-19(2WCD)diagnosis prediction deep learning system that is built on Transfer Learning Methodologies(TLM)and features customized fine-tuning on top of fully connected layered pre-trained CNN architectures.2WCD has applied modifications to pre-trained models for better performance. It is designed and implemented to improve the generalization ability of the classifier for binary and multi-class models.Along with the ability to differentiate COVID-19 and No-Patient in the binary class model and COVID-19,No-Patient,and Pneumonia in the multi-class model, our framework is augmented with a critical add-on for visually demonstrating infection in any tested radiological image by highlighting the affected region in the patient’s lung in a recognizable color pattern. The proposed system is shown to be extremely robust and reliable for real-time COVID-19 diagnostic prediction. It can also be used to forecast other lung-related disorders. As the system can assist medical practitioners in diagnosing the greatest number of patients in the shortestamount of time, radiologists can also be used or published online to assistany less-experienced individual in obtaining an accurate immediate screeningfor their radiological images.
文摘Respiratory diseases, including coronavirus disease 2019 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD),are leading causes of global fatality. There are no effective and curative treatments, but supportive care only.Cell therapy is a promising therapeutic strategy for refractory and unmanageable pulmonary illnesses,as proved by accumulating preclinical studies.Stem cells consist of totipotent, pluripotent, multipotent, and unipotent cells with the potential to differentiate into cell types requested for repair.Mesenchymal stromal cells, endothelial progenitor cells, peripheral blood stem cells, and lung progenitor cells have been applied to clinical trials. To date, the safety and feasibility of stem cell and extracellular vesicles administration have been confirmed by numerous phase I/II trials in patients with COPD,acute respiratory distress syndrome, bronchial dysplasia, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary artery hypertension, and silicosis.Five routes and a series of doses have been tested for tolerance and advantages of different regimes. In this review,we systematically summarize the global trends for the cell therapy of common airway and lung diseases registered for clinical trials. The future directions for both new clinical trials and preclinical studies are discussed.
文摘Background: Respiratory disorders are the most common diseases among Iranian pilgrims in Hajj. Conclusion: The study suggests the high-risk groups, should be vaccinated with combination of flu and pneumovax-23 vaccines in Hajj.
文摘Objective: To assess the impact of air pollution and ozone on morbidity due to respiratory diseases among children from 2005 to 2008. Conclusions: The results suggest that the surface ozone concentration promotes adverse effects on children’s health even when pollutant levels are below the amounts permitted by law.
文摘Background: The sources of respiratory disorders commonly occurred during the Hajj ceremony are now challenging and its infectious or allergic nature remained unknown. Conclusion: Infections play a major role in occurrence of respiratory disorders among Hajj pilgrims and thus the role of allergic sources is doubtful.
文摘Cardiorespiratory diseases are a serious public health problem worldwide. Our study showed that it was possible to capture evidences of health disparities in the Federal District.

文摘Based on daily data of influenza-like cases from four sentinel hospitals as well as meteorological data in Xuzhou from October 2005 to May 2011,number of patients with respiratory diseases in Xuzhou was analyzed, and then relationship between meteorological factors and number of patients with respiratory diseases was discussed. The prediction model could obtain good effect.

文摘The negative cardiorespiratory health outcomes due to extreme temperatures and air pollution are widely stud-ied,but knowledge about the effectiveness of the implementation of adaptive mechanisms remains unclear. The objective of this paper is to explore the evidence of adaptive mechanisms for cardiorespiratory diseases regard-ing extreme temperatures and air pollution by comparing the results of two systematic literature review(SLR)processes sharing the same initial research question but led by two research groups with different academic back-grounds working in the same multidisciplinary team.We start by presenting the methodological procedures and the results of the SLR triggered by the research group mainly composed by researchers with a background in ge-ography(named geographical strategy). We then compare these results with those achieved in the SLR led by the research group with a background in epidemiology(named epidemiological strategy). Both SLR were developed under the EU Horizon 2020 Project“EXHAUSTION”.The results showed:1)the lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness of adaptation measures, namely due to the limited number of studies about the topic, the prepon-derance of studies dedicated to heat extremes or the unbalance between different adaptation measures;2)that the choice of search terms in the geographical strategy, despite being more comprehensive at first sight, ended up retrieving less results, but it brought new studies that can complement the results of the epidemiological strategy. Therefore,it is suggested that to strengthen the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of adaptation measures, powerful multidisciplinary teams should work together in the preparation of SLR in topics of great complexity, such as the one presented in this paper.

文摘Few multicity studies have examined the acute effects of nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2))on respiratory disease(RD),especially its specific causes. This study aimed to investigate the associations between short-term exposure to NO_(2)and hospitalization of full-spectrum RDs in China.Hospitalization of 10 major categories and 40 cause-specific RDs were obtained from 20 provinces over the study period of 2013−2020.A time-stratified case-crossover study was conducted at the individual level to explore the associations between NO_(2)and RDs.NO_(2)was significantly associated with increased hospitalization of eight major RDs(acute upper respiratory infections, influenza and pneumonia, acute lower respiratory infections, upper respiratory tract diseases, chronic lower respiratory diseases, respiratory interstitium diseases, pleura diseases, and other respiratory diseases)and 18 specific causes of RDs,with the largest associations observed on lag 0−1 day.The effect estimates ranged from 0.75 to 4.09%per 10μg/m^(3)of NO_(2)exposure.The associations remained robust after controlling for copollutants. The concentration−response curves were mostly positive and linear. This nationwide study provides comprehensive information on the acute effects of NO_(2)on respiratory morbidity across the full spectrum, highlighting the need for caution with regard to this important traffic-related air pollutant in current pollution control programs.
文摘Public health strategies have resulted in declines in some respiratory infectious viruses during the COVID-19 pandemic[1],while the way to assess the extent of public health measures and their impacts on respiratory infectious diseases varies[2-4].During the pandemic,Thailand has implemented a strong and rapid governmental response according to its incidence rate[3],and we attempted to investigate the association between the extent of public health measures and other respiratory infectious diseases cases amidst the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand. In this way,the level of public health measures and their impacts on other kinds of non-SARS-CoV-2 respiratory infections will help the government formulate more efficient policies.

文摘Exosomes are cup-shaped extracellular vesicles with a lipid bilayer that is approximately 30 to 200 nm in thickness.Exosomes are widely distributed in a range of body fluids, including urine, blood, milk, and saliva.Exosomes exert biological function by transporting factors between different cells and by regulating biological pathways in recipient cells. As an important form of intercellular communication, exosomes are increasingly being investigated due to their ability to transfer bioactive molecules such as lipids, proteins,mRNAs,and microRNAs between cells, and because they can regulate physiological and pathological processes in the central nervous system.Adult neurogenesis is a multistage process by which new neurons are generated and migrate to be integrated into existing neuronal circuits. In the adult brain, neurogenesis is mainly localized in two specialized niches:the subventricular zone adjacent to the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. An increasing body of evidence indicates that adult neurogenesis is tightly controlled by environmental conditions with the niches. In recent studies, exosomes released from different sources of cells were shown to play an active role in regulating neurogenesis both in vitro and in vivo, thereby participating in the progression of neurodegenerative disorders in patients and in various disease models. Here,we provide a state-of-the-art synopsis of existing research that aimed to identify the diverse components of exosome cargoes and elucidate the therapeutic potential of exosomal contents in the regulation of neurogenesis in several neurodegenerative diseases. We emphasize that exosomal cargoes could serve as a potential biomarker to monitor functional neurogenesis in adults. In addition, exosomes can also be considered as a novel therapeutic approach to treat various neurodegenerative disorders by improving endogenous neurogenesis to mitigate neuronal loss in the central nervous system.

文摘Neurodegenerative diseases are a group of disorders characterized by the progressive degeneration of neurons in the central or peripheral nervous system.Currently, there is no cure for neurodegenerative diseases and this means a heavy burden for patients and the health system worldwide. Therefore,it is necessary to find new therapeutic approaches, and antisense therapies offer this possibility, having the great advantage of not modifying cellular genome and potentially being safer. Many preclinical and clinical studies aim to test the safety and effectiveness of antisense therapies in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The objective of this review is to summarize the recent advances in the development of these new technologies to treat the most common neurodegenerative diseases, with a focus on those antisense therapies that have already received the approval of the U.S.Food and Drug Administration.

文摘What is already known about this topic?Respiratory diseases(RDs)are the primary cause of death in older adults in China. However, there is limited evidence regarding the disparity in mortality rates of RDs between urban and rural areas among the elderly population. What is added by this report? The age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR)due to RDs in the elderly population in both urban and rural areas of China has shown a consistent decrease. This trend is observed in both males and females. However, there was no significant change in the average annual percentage of ASMR for pneumonia among the urban elderly population and rural elderly men throughout the study period. What are the implications for public health practice?Efforts should be made in China to reduce mortality from chronic lower respiratory disease and pneumonia among the elderly, particularly in urban populations.
