Based on the daily data of visits for respiratory diseases in two grade A hospitals as well as meteorological factors and air pollution in Fuxin City from December 1, 2020 to November 31, 2021, PCA and RBF neural network were used to study the effects of meteorological factors and air pollution on respiratory diseases and predict them. The results showed that the number of daily visits was the largest in winter(accounting for 62.5%), followed by spring(15.2%), and it was the smallest in autumn(only 6.9%). The correlation between the number of daily visits and meteorological factors was higher than that of air pollution factors, and the correlation with temperature and ozone was the highest. The response coefficient of daily visits to each factor increased first and then decreased within 9 d, and the peak was 4-5 d behind. RBF and PCA-RBF neural network models were established to predict the number of daily visits, and the accuracy was 86.3% and 95.2%, respectively. 展开更多

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is an essential vitamin for human body.It has a classical effect on regulating calcium and phosphorus metabolism.Participate in cellular and humoral immune processes by regulating the growth, differentiation and metabolism of immune cells.A large number of studies in recent years have shown that vitamin D deficiency increases the incidence of respiratory diseases.Respiratory diseases mainly include bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, tuberculosis, acute upper respiratory tract infection and pneumonia.Vitamin D metabolic pathway genes play a very important regulatory role in the transformation of vitamin D into active vitamin D,including CYP2R1,CYP27B1,CYP24A1,VDBP,VDR five genes.Genetic polymorphism of genes is the molecular basis of individual differences and disease development. Therefore, this paper summarizes the research on single nucleotide polymorphism of vitamin D metabolic pathway gene and respiratory diseases. In order to provide a new idea for future treatment. 展开更多

Respiratory diseases and air pollution are the goals of many scientific works, but studies of the relations between these diseases and cane field burning pollution are still not well studied in the literature. In this work, we consider the times between days of extrapolations of the number of daily hospitalizations due to respiratory diseases as our data. To analyze this data set, we introduce different statistical models related to burning focus pollution and their relations with the counting of hospitalizations due to respiratory diseases. Under a Bayesian approach and with the help of the free available WinBUGS software, we get posterior summaries of interest using standard MCMC (Markov Chain Monte Carlo) methods. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the possible association between Tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy(TTC)-a reversible clini-cal condition mimicking an acute myocardial infarction characterized by multifactorial pathophysiologic mecha-nisms- and respiratory system diseases. METHODS: We systematically searched PubMed and EMBASE medical information sources, to identify the different triggering causes, limiting our search to ar-ticles in English. The search keywords were: "tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy", "takotsubo", "takotsubo cardiomyopa-thy", "broken heart syndrome", "stress-induced cardio-myopathy", "apical ballooning syndrome", and "ampulla cardiomyopathy in combination with respiratory dis-eases, lung, pulmonary disease. For each kind of dis-ease, we registered: author, year and country of study, patient sex, age, concurring situation, and outcome. RESULTS: Out of a total of 1725 articles found, we se-lected 37 papers reporting a total of 38 patients. As ex-pected, most patients were women(81.6%), mean age was 65 ± 10 years. Outcome was favorable in 100% of cases, and all the patients have been discharged un-eventfully in a few days. CONCLUSION: An association between respiratory diseases and TTC is likely to exist. Patients with severe respiratory diseases, due to the high dosages of β2-agonists used or to the need of invasive procedures, are highly exposed to the risk of developing TTC. 展开更多

Respiratory diseases have been a major health concern for human beings since several decades.Soothing the irritated nasal passages and airways had been a mutual necessity in multiple ancient cultures. In ancient China, herbs were largely used to help deal with cough and reduce mucus, thereby maintaining respiratory health. In India, knowledge of herb-related remedies passed down through generations. In the human society, freshly prepared herb ointments, including air-dried herbs, and boiled herbal soups have had a long history of combining botanical nutrients with local cuisine.Although the use of herbs and natural products from plants(NPFPs)has been primarily cited in reviews based on modern respiratory diseases, the concept of soothing and alleviating disease progression or reducing mucus production has been highly valued.Nevertheless, only a few herbs could directly disrupt the irreversible fibrotic progression. On the other hand, natural products from animals(NPFAs)have more potential in disrupting procollagen or extracellular matrix deposition.Due to these reasons,NPFAs could be considered as important functional foods for patients with respiratory diseases. In this article,we provide a review of both NPFAs and NPFPs that are adjuvant to respiratory health. 展开更多

In the past few years, a variety of extradigestive disorders, including cardiovascular, skin, rheumatic and liver diseases, have been associated with Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)infection. The activation of inflammatory mediators by H. pyloriseems to be the pathogenetic mechanism underlying theobserved associations. The present review summarizes thecurrent literature, including our own studies, concerning theassociation between H. pvloriinfection and respiratory diseases.A small number of epidemiological and serologic, case-control studies suggest that H. pyloriinfection may beassociated with the development of chronic bronchitis. Afrequent coexistence of pulmonary tuberculosis and H. pyloriinfection has also been found. Moreover, recent studies haveshown an increasedH. pyloriseroprevalence in patients withbronchiectasis and in those with lung cancer. On the otherhand, bronchial asthma seems not to be related withH. pyloriinfection. All associations between H. pyloriinfection and respiratorydiseases are primarily based on case-control studies, concerning relatively small numbers of patients. Moreover, there is a lack of studies focused on the pathogenetic linkbetween respiratory diseases and H. pylori infection. Therefore, we believe that larger studies should beundertaken to confirm the observed results and to clarifythe underlying pathogenetic mechanisms. 展开更多

Real-time disease prediction has emerged as the main focus of study in the field of computerized medicine.Intelligent disease identification framework can assist medical practitioners in diagnosing disease in a way that is reliable, consistent, and timely, successfully lowering mortality rates, particularly during endemics and pandemics. To prevent this pandemic’s rapid and widespread,it is vital to quickly identify, confine, and treat affected individuals. The need for auxiliary computer-aided diagnostic(CAD)systems has grown.Numerous recent studies have indicated that radiological pictures contained critical information regarding the COVID-19 virus.Utilizing advanced convolutional neural network(CNN)architectures in conjunction with radiological imaging makes it possible to provide rapid, accurate, and extremely useful susceptible classifications. This research work proposes a methodology for real-time detection of COVID-19 infections caused by the Corona Virus. The purpose of this study is to offer a two-way COVID-19(2WCD)diagnosis prediction deep learning system that is built on Transfer Learning Methodologies(TLM)and features customized fine-tuning on top of fully connected layered pre-trained CNN architectures.2WCD has applied modifications to pre-trained models for better performance. It is designed and implemented to improve the generalization ability of the classifier for binary and multi-class models.Along with the ability to differentiate COVID-19 and No-Patient in the binary class model and COVID-19,No-Patient,and Pneumonia in the multi-class model, our framework is augmented with a critical add-on for visually demonstrating infection in any tested radiological image by highlighting the affected region in the patient’s lung in a recognizable color pattern. The proposed system is shown to be extremely robust and reliable for real-time COVID-19 diagnostic prediction. It can also be used to forecast other lung-related disorders. As the system can assist medical practitioners in diagnosing the greatest number of patients in the shortestamount of time, radiologists can also be used or published online to assistany less-experienced individual in obtaining an accurate immediate screeningfor their radiological images. 展开更多

Background: Respiratory disorders are the most common diseases among Iranian pilgrims in Hajj. Some studies recommended flu and pneumococcal vaccines separately or in combination to reduce respiratory diseases occurrence and its morbidity. These effects are not clear in afflicted Hajj pilgrims. Objective: This is a cohort study that investigates the effects of above-mentioned vaccines each or their combination on respiratory syndromes and their consequences among Iranian pilgrims in Mecca. Method: The participants were 295 Iranian pilgrims from the beginning to the end of the journey. They were systematically observed for getting afflicted with a respiratory syndrome or not. In this study, we have assessed the effects of flu and pneumococcal vaccines on respiratory disease occurrence and on 8 clinical consequences including as: the duration of fever, duration of cough, duration of bed rest, presence of post nasal discharge and dirty sputum, the total disease length, and the number of referrals to the hospital, physician’s visits and complications. The data for this study were gathered through a questionnaire with 14 basic questions and 60 choices. This was processed using the SPSS software of 11.5 version, T- and Chi-square tests. Results: The results showed no significant correlations between the above-mentioned factors and vaccination with one or both flu and pneumovax-23 except for the duration of coughs which was significantly reduced in all cases (p < 0.01) and also decreased complications of the disease (p < 0.001). Conclusion: The study suggests the high-risk groups, should be vaccinated with combination of flu and pneumovax-23 vaccines in Hajj. 展开更多

Objective: To assess the impact of air pollution and ozone on morbidity due to respiratory diseases among children from 2005 to 2008. Methods: The database was composed by daily reports on visits by children with respiratory diseases in health units of the Unified Health System (SUS) in the municipality of Campo Grande, MS, Brazil, by daily levels of ozone concentration measured by the Department of Physics, Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, and by daily measurements of temperature and relative humidity provided by the Agricultural Research Corporation-EMBRAPA Gado de Corte-MS. The relationship between respiratory diseases and ozone concentration was investigated through Generalized Linear Models (GLM) using the multiple Poisson regression model. The significance level α = 5% was adopted for all tests. Results: It was observed that the association between ozone (lagged by three time-steps) and attendance for respiratory diseases in children was statistically significant. The bio-meteorological variable Wind-adjusted Effective Temperature (lagged by four time-steps) was also significantly associated with diseases. Conclusions: The results suggest that the surface ozone concentration promotes adverse effects on children’s health even when pollutant levels are below the amounts permitted by law. 展开更多

Background: The sources of respiratory disorders commonly occurred during the Hajj ceremony are now challenging and its infectious or allergic nature remained unknown. The present comprehensive study was conducted to assess sources of respiratory disorders in Hajj pilgrims. Method: In this prospective observational study, blood samples of 130 pilgrims were taken for assessment of serum levels of infectious and allergic sources. The measurement of IgA, IgG, IgM was used for assessment of infectious reactions against microbial antigens, NBT test was employed to assess phagocytic functions, and the measurement of gamma interferon was used for assessing immunity status against infections. Also, measurement of IgE and IL-4 was applied as two markers for assessing allergic reactions. The ELISA test was also used to assess serum levels of immunoglobulin A, G, M, E, IL-4 and gamma interferon before and three weeks after returning from Hajj ceremony. All of the volunteers were followed up along the trip and the involved pilgrim’s characteristics were recorded. Results: The present study showed no significant change in the level of allergic biomarkers including IgE and IL-4, however the mean levels of IgM, gamma Interferon and NBT test were increased after the trip compared with before that. Conclusion: Infections play a major role in occurrence of respiratory disorders among Hajj pilgrims and thus the role of allergic sources is doubtful. 展开更多

Identification of spatial patterns in health events is an efficient tool to guide public policies in environmental health. However, only few studies have considered spatial pattern analysis which is considered the evaluation of spatial autocorrelation, degree of autocorrelation and dependence behavior in terms of distances. Therefore, the objective of this study is to propose a set of procedures to evaluate the spatial patterns of cardiorespiratory diseases in the Federal District, Brazil. Specifically, our proposal will be based on four questions: a) is the spatial distribution of all patients clustered, random or dispersed? b) what is the degree of clustering for either high values or low values of patients? c) what is the spatial dependence behavior? d) considering the spatial variation, at what distance does the type of distribution (cluster, random or disperse) begin to change? We chose four methods to answer these questions Global Moran’s I (question “a”);Getis-Ord General G (question “b”);semivariogram analysis (question “c”);and multi-distance spatial cluster-K-function (question “d”). Our results suggest that there is a different behavior for people up to 5 years old (cluster, p < 0.01), especially in distances below 2.5 km. For people above 59 years old, cluster is significant just in short distances (<200 m). For other age groups, the spatial distribution is basically random. Our study showed that it was possible to capture evidences of health disparities in the Federal District. 展开更多

Based on daily data of influenza-like cases from four sentinel hospitals as well as meteorological data in Xuzhou from October 2005 to May 2011,number of patients with respiratory diseases in Xuzhou was analyzed, and then relationship between meteorological factors and number of patients with respiratory diseases was discussed. The prediction model of number of patients with respiratory diseases in each month was established to forecast number of patients with respiratory diseases using meteorological data. The results show that people suffered from respiratory diseases more frequently in January and from June to September in Xuzhou. Meteorological factors correlated highly with number of patients with respiratory diseases are different due to the difference in climatic characteristics among various seasons. The negative cardiorespiratory health outcomes due to extreme temperatures and air pollution are widely stud-ied,but knowledge about the effectiveness of the implementation of adaptive mechanisms remains unclear. The objective of this paper is to explore the evidence of adaptive mechanisms for cardiorespiratory diseases regard-ing extreme temperatures and air pollution by comparing the results of two systematic literature review(SLR)processes sharing the same initial research question but led by two research groups with different academic back-grounds working in the same multidisciplinary team.We start by presenting the methodological procedures and the results of the SLR triggered by the research group mainly composed by researchers with a background in ge-ography(named geographical strategy). We then compare these results with those achieved in the SLR led by the research group with a background in epidemiology(named epidemiological strategy). Both SLR were developed under the EU Horizon 2020 Project“EXHAUSTION”.The results showed:1)the lack of evidence regarding the effectiveness of adaptation measures, namely due to the limited number of studies about the topic, the prepon-derance of studies dedicated to heat extremes or the unbalance between different adaptation measures;2)that the choice of search terms in the geographical strategy, despite being more comprehensive at first sight, ended up retrieving less results, but it brought new studies that can complement the results of the epidemiological strategy. Therefore,it is suggested that to strengthen the empirical evidence of the effectiveness of adaptation measures, powerful multidisciplinary teams should work together in the preparation of SLR in topics of great complexity, such as the one presented in this paper. 展开更多

Exosomes are cup-shaped extracellular vesicles with a lipid bilayer that is approximately 30 to 200 nm in thickness.Exosomes are widely distributed in a range of body fluids, including urine, blood, milk, and saliva.Exosomes exert biological function by transporting factors between different cells and by regulating biological pathways in recipient cells. As an important form of intercellular communication, exosomes are increasingly being investigated due to their ability to transfer bioactive molecules such as lipids, proteins,mRNAs,and microRNAs between cells, and because they can regulate physiological and pathological processes in the central nervous system.Adult neurogenesis is a multistage process by which new neurons are generated and migrate to be integrated into existing neuronal circuits. In the adult brain, neurogenesis is mainly localized in two specialized niches:the subventricular zone adjacent to the lateral ventricles and the subgranular zone of the dentate gyrus. An increasing body of evidence indicates that adult neurogenesis is tightly controlled by environmental conditions with the niches. In recent studies, exosomes released from different sources of cells were shown to play an active role in regulating neurogenesis both in vitro and in vivo, thereby participating in the progression of neurodegenerative disorders in patients and in various disease models. Here,we provide a state-of-the-art synopsis of existing research that aimed to identify the diverse components of exosome cargoes and elucidate the therapeutic potential of exosomal contents in the regulation of neurogenesis in several neurodegenerative diseases. We emphasize that exosomal cargoes could serve as a potential biomarker to monitor functional neurogenesis in adults. In addition, exosomes can also be considered as a novel therapeutic approach to treat various neurodegenerative disorders by improving endogenous neurogenesis to mitigate neuronal loss in the central nervous system. 展开更多
