It is common to observe the epidemic risk perception(ERP)and a decline in subjective well-being(SWB)in the context of public health events, such as Corona Virus Disease 2019(COVID-19).However,there have been few studies exploring the impact of individuals’ERP within living space on their SWB,especially from a geographical and daily activity perspective after the resumption of work and other activities following a wave of the pandemic. In this paper,we conducted a study with 789 participants in urban China, measuring their ERP within living space and examining its influence on their SWB using path analysis. The results indicated that individuals’ERP within their living space had a significant negative effect on their SWB.The density of certain types of facilities within their living space, such as bus stops, subway stations, restaurants, fast food shops, convenience shops, hospitals, and public toilets, had a significantly negative impact on their SWB,mediated by their ERP within living space.Additionally, participation in out-of-home work and other activities not only increased individuals’ERP within living space, but also strengthened its negative effect on their SWB. 展开更多

This study investigates mental health literacy among young and middle-aged urban and rural residents and the differences in mental health literacy, perceived social support and subjective well-being.From January to February 2022,620 participants(320 rural and 300 urban residents)from three provinces of China were selected by con-venience sampling.A general data questionnaire, mental health literacy scale, perceived social support scale and subjective well-being scale were administered. The mental health literacy scores of urban residents were 3.34±0.57 and those of rural residents were 2.73±0.79.The results of multiple regression analysis showed that the mental health literacy scores of rural residents were more significant than those of urban residents in terms of sex and age, while urban residents’mental health literacy scores were more significant than those of rural resi-dents in terms of monthly income.Mental health literacy, perceived social support and subjective well-being of young and middle-aged urban and rural residents were all positively correlated(P<0.01).While the level of mental health literacy is better among urban residents than rural residents, perceived social support plays a partial mediating role between mental health literacy and subjective well-being of both urban and rural residents, and should be the focus of researchers seeking to improve the level of well-being of residents. 展开更多

Backgrounds: Health does not only physical health, therefore, we need to study it from various viewpoints. Many Japanese female complain of a Hie or a low back pain (LBP), which they reduce their subjective well-being. We analyze. Those patients often have acupuncture therapy. In this study, we analyze the characteristics of Hie and LBP, the satisfaction level of alternative therapy and we pursue a tip to improve subjective well-being. Methods: Of 1000 women, Hie (+)/Hie (−) or LBP (+)/LBP (−), we compared their body temperature (BT) (axilla) and body mass index (BMI). Furthermore, the Chi test identified ten factors of “body” and seven “mind” information. Results: In the result of BT (axilla) while LBP indicated a significant difference. Both Hie and LBP showed difference in the opposite direction. Hie did now show such clear differences in “body” information. However, interestingly, all seven questions in the “mind” information showed statistical difference. Discussion and conclusion: One reason why those patients have acupuncture therapy may acupuncture therapy traditionally has not separate “mind” and “body” and it has the concept of “mind-body unity”. To improve subjective well-being, first we need to focus on “Mind” as well as “mind-body unity”. Mental-health support is important for patients with Hie or LBP to reduce physiological stress. 展开更多

This paper reviews traditional understanding of well-being from both Western and Eastern cultural perspectives. First, two distinct Western traditions in defining well-being are compared, namely hedonic and eudaemonic approaches. The hedonic approach defines happiness as the maximization of pleasure, while the eudaemonic approach regards happiness as the fulfillment of a person’s natural needs and overall flourishing. Second, the views of well-being in lens of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism in the East are reviewed. The common and different understandings of well-being between Western and Eastern traditions are discussed as followed. Finally, two well-known operationalized definitions of well-being, that is subjective well-being and psychological well-being, proposed in the roots of Western traditions are elucidated. 展开更多

College students experience great stress due to many factors, such as an uncertain future, academic responsibilities, and pressures imposed by social communication. Many institutions of higher education are focusing on how to mediate stressful situations and increase the subjective well-being(SWB)of students to sustain a lifestyle focused on wellness. The online survey used for this study focused on testing an exploratory SWB model by implementing partial least squares structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM)techniques.The participants were 470 college-aged students enrolled in seven different institutions in six cities across China.Findings yielded a good model fit(the Standardized Root Mean Squared Residual[SRMR]=.054)with the validity of manifest variables, reliability of the latent variables(LVs),and overall SWB model indicating moderate predictiveness(GoF R^(2)=.476)by the LVs.Additionally, all of the direct path coefficients and indirect path coefficients that consisted of four partial mediators and one full mediator yielded statistically significant results via bootstrapping.Furthermore, path coefficients for utilization of emotion to life satisfaction for the cognitive exercise group were significantly higher than for the non-cognitive exercise group. The findings illustrated a good model fit for an exploratory SWB model that can predict an individual’s SWB,and cognitive and non-cognitive exercises had different effects on the individuals’SWB. 展开更多

This article examines the relationship among subjective well-being(SWB),income and education in China through self-perceived social status.Men and women appear to use different socioeconomic markers to determine their self-perceived social status, which ultimately affects their subjective reports of well-being.By using the data from the 2010 China General Social Survey(CGSS),this study finds a positive association between income and SWB for women. The result also shows a positive association between education and SWB for men. Moreover, for women self-perceived social status is a strong mediator of income and happiness;while for men, selfperceived social status mediates the relationship between education and SWB.This study highlights the importance of the cultural influence in understanding the differences in self-perceived social status outcomes by gender and how these differences ultimately influence the subjective measures of well-being in China. 展开更多

The present study investigates the effects of subjective well-being(SWB)on mortality risk using a large sample from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Study conducted in 1998,2000,2002,2005,2008,2011 and 2014.SWB is measured by life satisfaction, positive affect and negative affect. We found that positive affect, negative affect, life satisfaction and the change of life satisfaction significantly have predicted mortality risks of the older people with control of social demographic characteristics, physical health, social support, cognitive ability, and social participation. The higher the positive affect, the lower the negative affect, the improvement the life satisfaction, the lower the mortality risk.Marital status plays a decisive role in the influence of life satisfaction on the mortality risk. The married persons have lower mortality risk even if they rate their life bad.In further analyses,we found that the effects of SWB on mortality risk were underestimated in short-term study compared with those in long-term study.SWB is essentially a time-dependent variable and changes with age,so treating SWB as time-independent variable underestimated its impact on mortality risk. 展开更多

Government city management is facing higher requirements with the development of the number of migrant workers. Therefore, improving their subjective well-being is a significant practical problem that the government must consider in public governance. This research discusses the influence of public service satisfaction on the well-being of urban migrant workers from the perspective of social comparison theory and the role of the sense of social equity and social conflict in the process of this influence.Using the structural equation modeling and moderated mediating mechanism analysis, the results show that:(1)the satisfaction of social and economic public service significantly and positively affects subjective well-being.(2)The sense of social equity completely mediated the influence of the satisfaction of public social service on well-being and partly mediated the influence of the satisfaction of public financial service on well-being.(3)The sense of social equity and conflict have a moderated mediating effect for social and economic public service satisfaction on well-being.Finally,the article concludes with some suggestions to improve the well-being of migrant workers based on the conclusion of the study. 展开更多

Previous research suggests that planning interventions lead to increased goal attainment, while other researchsuggests that goal attainment leads to increased well-being. This research integrates these two sets of researchfindings by investigating the effectiveness of one goal planning intervention, the SMART goal program, on goalattainment, and thus need satisfaction and well-being, in university students. An experimental design across aone-week period was employed to test whether participants in the experimental group, who received the SMARTgoal instructions, better obtained their goal in comparison to control group participants who did not receive thosespecific instructions. Findings indicated that the SMART goal program led to greater rated goal attainment andneed satisfaction, but not greater subjective well-being (SWB). Nevertheless, one component of SWB, positiveaffect, was greater in the Experimental group. Type of individually chosen self-concordant goal content hadno impact on whether participants attained their goal. 展开更多
