Experimental Research of ZnO Surface Flashover Trigger Device of Pseudo-Spark Switch

Pseudo-spark switch(PSS) is one of the most widely used discharge switches for pulse power technology.It has many special characteristics such as reliability in a wide voltage range,small delay time,as well as small delay jitter.In this paper,the measuring method for the initial plasma of ZnO surface flashover triggering device of PSS is studied and the results of the measurement show that the electron emission charge is mainly influenced by trigger voltage,gas pressure and DC bias voltage.When the bias voltage increases from 2 kV to 6 kV with the gap distancc fixed at 3 mm,the electron emission charge changes from 2 μC to about 6μC.When the gap distance changes from 3 mm to 5 mm with the bias voltage fixed at 2 kV,the electron emission charge increases from 1.5 μC to 2.5μC.When the gap distance is 4 mm,the hold-off voltage of PSS is 45 kV at gas pressure of 2 Pa,the minimum operating voltage is less than 1 kV.So,the operating scope is from 2.22%to 99%of its self-breakdown voltage.The discharging delay time decreases from 450 ns to 150 ns when the trigger pulse voltage is 1 kV and the discharging voltage is changed from 1 kV to 12 kV.When the trigger pulse voltage is 6 kV,the discharging delay time is less than 100 ns and changes from 100 ns to 50 ns,and the delay jitters are less than30 ns. 展开更多

Surface charge accumulation on insulator surface can have great influence on surface flashover performance.An experimental system is established to investigate surface charge accumulation and decay characteristics of Al2O3-filled epoxy resin insulators in 0.1 MPa SF6 under DC voltages.Surface potential is recorded by a Kelvin vibrating probe connected to an electrostatic voltmeter.By pre-depositing charges on insulator surface,the influence of surface charges on surface flashover performance is studied.The results reveal that surface charge distribution appearance is the combined effect of electrode injection,back discharge and gas ionization.Surface charge distribution has obvious polarity effect.It is concentrated near the HV electrode under positive voltages and dispersed under negative voltages.The difference in positive and negative surface flashover voltage is attributed to the difference in surface charge distribution under DC voltages of different polarities.Surface charge decay contains two stages,which satisfies the law of double exponential function.At first stage,surface charge decays fast,which corresponds to charges escaping from shallower traps.While it decays slowly at the second stage,which corresponds to charge escaping from deeper traps.Surface charge decay process is dominated by surface conductivity mechanism.The pre-deposited charges on insulation surface have great influence on surface flashover performance.The deposited positive charges can increase positive flashover voltage but decrease negative flashover voltage. 展开更多

The surface trap parameter can significantly affect the development of surface flashover in vacuum,but the effective mode and mechanism are not very clear yet.The trap parameters of three polymeric materials were tested and calculated by means of isothermal surface potential decay.The flashover experiment was developed under different applied voltages.The results show a positive correlation between the withstand voltage and the deep trap,i.e.,the deeper trap energy level is,the higher flashover voltage is.The dynamics process of charge trapping and detrapping was analyzed based on the charge transport model in dielectrics with a single trap level and two discrete trap levels.The time of charge trapping was compared with that of the discharge development.The results show that the charge trapping time is longer than the flashover development time.The way to influence flashover for a trap is not to decrease the secondary electrons in single discharge development,but to change the electric field distribution on the dielectric surface by charge capture. 展开更多

Characteristics of electron emission induced by a surface flashover trigger device in alow-pressure trigger switch were investigated.A test method to measure the emitted charges fromthe trigger device was developed,and the factors affecting the emitted charges were analyzed.Theresults indicated that the major emitted charges from the trigger device were induced by surfaceplasma generated by surface flashover occurring on the trigger dielectric material.The emittedcharges and the peak emission current increased linearly with the change in the trigger voltageand bias voltage.The emitted charges collected from the anode were affected by the gap distance.However,the emitted charges were less affected by the anode diameter.Furthermore,the emittedcharges and the peak emission current decreased rapidly with the increase in gas pressure in arange from 0 Pa to 100 Pa,and then remained stable or changed slightly when the increase in gaspressure up to 2400 Pa. 展开更多

Triggering characteristics of triggered vacuum switch (TVS),including the dischargedelay time,delay jitter,range of operational voltage and peak of pulsed current,are investigated.Both structure and experimental circuit of TVS are presented.The results indicate that TVS,asa surface flashover triggering device with high dielectric permittivity material,is with excellenttriggering characteristics.When the hold-off voltage reaches 120 kV,the minimum operationalvoltage is 1.3 kV,and the minimum discharge delay time and jitter are 100 ns and ±10 ns,respectively.The peak current is up to 240 kA when the operational voltage reaches 100 kV.TVScan well satisfy the main demands of high voltage and current applications,and can also be usedunder a multi-crowbar circuit. 展开更多

This work treats the Al_(2)O_(3)-ER sample surface using dielectric barrier discharge fluorination(DBDF),DBD silicon deposition(DBD-Si),atmospheric-pressure plasma jet fluorination(APPJ-F)and APPJ silicon deposition(APPJ-Si).By comparing the surface morphology,chemical components and electrical parameters,the diverse mechanisms of different plasma modification methods used to improve flashover performance are revealed.The results show that the flashover voltage of the DBDF samples is the largest(increased by 21.2%at most),while the APPJ-F method has the worst promotion effect.The flashover voltage of the APPJ-Si samples decreases sharply when treatment time exceeds 180 s,but the promotion effect outperforms the DBD-Si method during a short modified time.For the mechanism explanation,firstly,plasma fluorination improves the surface roughness and introduces shallow traps by etching the surface and grafting fluorine-containing groups,while plasma silicon deposition reduces the surface roughness and introduces a large number of shallow traps by coating Si Oxfilm.Furthermore,the reaction of the DBD method is more violent,while the homogeneity of the APPJ modification is better.These characteristics influence the effects of fluorination and silicon deposition.Finally,increasing the surface roughness and introducing shallow traps accelerates surface charge dissipation and inhibits flashover,but too many shallow traps greatly increase the dissipated rate and facilitate surface flashover instead. 展开更多

A new type of surface flashover switch,suitable for multiplex pulse generation,isstudied.The switch is composed of several parallel rail gaps(PRGs).Each multistage PRG iscomposed of several serial subgroup gaps(SSG)formed by intermediate electrodes.The triggerelectrode of the switch is a common electrode isolated from the main discharge circuit and locatedparallel to the central line of PRGs.The multistage scheme of PRG is helpful to multi-channeldischarge.The switch has some advantages,such as a low jitter,low conduct inductance andshort switching time.These advantages and the multiplex scheme make the switch suitable forshort frontal rising time pulse formation and accurate synchronization for a multi-module paralleloperation device.In a primary test,the jitter of the switch is about 3.3 ns.It has been appliedin a linear transformer device successfully. 展开更多

In order to further investigate the surface flashover mechanism in vacuum, the surface flashover and electric field distribution of multilayer organic insulation structure are studied and developed based on the previous studies. The samples of multilayer organic insulation structure are prepared by inserting multilayer organic composite material with different relative permittivity between the electrode and the dielectric. Two multilayer organic insulation structures are prepared in this study. One is the cylindrical samples, the other is 45° samples. The impulse (1.2/50 μs) and DC flashover voltages in vacuum are tested, and the electric field distributions of two insulation structures are analyzed by ANSYS. It is found that these two insulation structure could effectively improve the surface flashover performance in vacuum. The results indicate that the highest impulse first flashover voltage of cylindrical samples reaches 65 kV and increases by 25% under im- pulse voltage. The highest first flashover voltage of /c samples reaches 81 kV and increases by 32% under impulse voltage. The results of electric field simulation demonstrate that different mechanisms exist between 45° insulation structure and cylindrical structure. 展开更多

Experimental Study of Surface Flashover Field of SI-GaAs Photoconductive Semiconductor Switch

With its unique features, photoconductive semiconductor switch (PCSS) is generally recognized today as a promising power electronic device. However, a major limitation of PCSS is its surprisingly low voltage threshold of surface flashover (SF). In this paper, an experimental study of surface flashover of a back-triggered PCSS is presented. The PCSSs with electrode gap of 18 mm are fabricated from liquid encapsulated czochralski (LEC) semi-insulating gallium arsenide (SI-GaAs), and they are either un-coated, or partly coated, or en- tirely coated PCSSs with high-strength transparent insulation. The SF fields of the PCSSs are measured and discussed. According to the experimental results, the high-dielectric-strength coating is efficient in both reducing the gas desorption from semiconductor and increasing the SF field: a well-designed PCSS can resist a voltage up to 20 kV under the repetition frequency of 30 Hz. The physical mechanism of the PCSS SF is analyzed, and the conclusion is made that having a channel structure, the SF is the breakdown of the contaminated dielectric layer at the semiconductor-ambient dielectric interface. The non-uniform distribution of the surface field and the gas desorption due to thermal effects of semiconductor surface currents are key factors causing the SF field reduction. 展开更多

The unique feature of pseudospark switch is its hollow cathode geometry.The hollow cathode effect produced by the hollow cathode provides the protection of the switchfor the triggering unit from erosion by high discharge plasma. In this paper, a zinc oxide (ZnO)surface flashover triggering is presented. This trigger unit possesses an excellent time delay (80 ns~ 360 ns) and jitter (20 ns ~ 50 ns) at the switch voltage of 30 kV ~ 2 kV. The emitted plasmaelectron density is high enough to trigger switch reliably down to switch voltage of 440 V. 展开更多

A new insulation system with inorganic A-B-A insulators was proposed to improvethe surface flashover performance in vacuum. Inorganic A-B-A insulator samples of M0/Al2O3cermet-Al2O3 ceramic-Mo/Al2O3 cermet were prepared, in which the conductivity and permittivityof the Mo/Al2O3 cermets were controlled through different amount of metallic molybdenumpowder added. The effects of both conductivity and permittivity of Mo/Al2O3 cermets on theDC and impulse surface flashover voltage in vacuum were experimentally investigated. The resultshowed that the DC and impulse surface flashover voltage were improved by 52% and 95%, respectively.For the distribution of electric field, two triple junctions, i.e., vacuum-layer A-cathode(TJ1) and vacuum-layer A-layer B (TJ2) were prepared with the introduction of layer A into theA-B-A insulation system. Based on the electric field distribution obtained via electrostatic fieldsimulation and Maxwell-Wagner three-layer model, the electric field of TJ1 decreases while thatof TJ2 increases with the increase in conductivity and permittivity of layer A under applied DCand impulse voltage, respectively. A trigger device and a triggered pseudospark switch (TPSS) were designed based onsurface flashover technology,in order to meet the requirements from present pulse power technol-ogy and pulse current test technology such as a long lifetime,reliability in a wide voltage range,a short delay time,as well as small delay jitters.The trigger devices were made from differentdielectric materials,with their permittivities from tens to thousands.The trigger characteristics ofTPSS were investigated.The results indicate that the high-dielectric trigger device shows betterperformance and higher emitted charge of the electron emission within all adjusted parametersincluding the gas pressure and applied voltage.For the dielectric material with relative permittiv-ity ε_r of 3460,when the gas pressure is 7 Pa,the hold-off voltage of TPSS is 28 kV,the minimumtrigger switch voltage drops to 128 V,the minimum discharging delay time and delay jitter areless than 35ns and 6ns,respectively,and the reliable operation can be reached within a very largerange of charging voltage,between 0.46% and 99% of its self-breakdown voltage. 展开更多

In this study,different conditions of sandblasting on dental implant fixtures were investigated to achieve the best sandblasting conditions.18 different sandblasting conditions(Using 152 implant fixture samples)were examined,including parameters such as particle size,particle blasting pressure,and particle blasting angle.The surface treatment of the samples was performed using the SLA+Anodizing method.AFM testing was performed for each of the 18 different states,and the average surface roughness of each of these was compared with each other.Then,a bone layer was placed on the sample with the closest average surface roughness to the standard and the least amount of aluminum oxide on its surface among the 18 different states,to confirm the accuracy and quality of the desired surface roughness by examining the bone formation process and speed.The results showed that state No.4(sandblast particle size:75µm,spraying pressure of sandblast particles:4 bar,sandblast particle spraying angle:30 degrees),which was prepared using the SLA+Anodizing method and had a surface roughness of 1.989µm(The percentage of Al_(2)O_(3)on the surface=6%),had the best sandblasting conditions and showed 95%cell viability and accelerated the treatment and bone formation process for about a week.The simulation results,using Abaqus software,indicated that the stress distribution on the surface of the implant fixture in contact with the bone surface has increased by approximately 4.3%for state No.4.This will help prevent loosening of the dental implant fixture over time. 展开更多

Systematic optimization of the photocatalyst and investigation of the role of each component is important to maximizing catalytic activity and comprehending the photocatalytic conversion of CO_(2) reduction to solar fuels.A surface-modified Ag@Ru-P25 photocatalyst with H_(2)O_(2) treatment was designed in this study to convert CO_(2) and H_(2)O vapor into highly selective CH4.Ru doping followed by Ag nanoparticles(NPs)cocatalyst deposition on P25(TiO_(2))enhances visible light absorption and charge separation,whereas H_(2)O_(2) treatment modifies the surface of the photocatalyst with hydroxyl(–OH)groups and promotes CO_(2) adsorption.High-resonance transmission electron microscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,X-ray absorption near-edge structure,and extended X-ray absorption fine structure techniques were used to analyze the surface and chemical composition of the photocatalyst,while thermogravimetric analysis,CO_(2) adsorption isotherm,and temperature programmed desorption study were performed to examine the significance of H_(2)O_(2) treatment in increasing CO_(2) reduction activity.The optimized Ag1.0@Ru1.0-P25 photocatalyst performed excellent CO_(2) reduction activity into CO,CH4,and C2H6 with a~95%selectivity of CH4,where the activity was~135 times higher than that of pristine TiO_(2)(P25).For the first time,this work explored the effect of H_(2)O_(2) treatment on the photocatalyst that dramatically increases CO_(2) reduction activity. 展开更多

We experimentally and theoretically present a paradigm for the accurate bilayer design of gradient metasurfaces for wave beam manipulation,producing an extremely asymmetric splitting effect by simply tailoring the interlayer size.This concept arises from anomalous diffraction in phase gradient metasurfaces and the precise combination of the phase gradient in bilayer metasurfaces.Ensured by different diffraction routes in momentum space for incident beams from opposite directions,extremely asymmetric acoustic beam splitting can be generated in a robust way,as demonstrated in experiments through a designed bilayer system.Our work provides a novel approach and feasible platform for designing tunable devices to control wave propagation. 展开更多

Surface metallization of glass fiber(GF)/polyetheretherketone(PEEK)[GF/PEEK] is conducted by coating copper using electroplating and magnetron sputtering and the properties are determined by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD).The coating bonding strength is assessed by pull-out tests and scribing in accordance with GB/T 9286-1998.The results show that the Cu coating with a thickness of 30 μm deposited on GF/PEEK by magnetron sputtering has lower roughness, finer grain size, higher crystallinity, as well as better macroscopic compressive stress,bonding strength, and electrical conductivity than the Cu coating deposited by electroplating. 展开更多

A trigger system is typically employed in active seismic testing to trigger and synchronize multichannel surface wave data acquisition.The effect of the trigger system on the dispersion image of surface waves is empirically known to be negligible,however,theoretical explanation regarding the effect of the trigger system is insufficient.This study systematically examines the theory for surface wave dispersion analysis and proves that the effect of the trigger system on a dispersion image is negligible via a solid theoretical explanation.Subsequently,based on the new theoretical explanation,an alternative method that uses only the relative phase difference between sensors to extract dispersion characteristics with better conceptual clarity is proposed.Two active surface wave testing cases are considered to validate the theory and method.The results indicate that(1)an accurate trigger system is not necessary for surface wave data acquisition,and(2)it is unnecessary to assume that the impact point is the generation point of the surface waves for the experimental dispersion analysis. 展开更多

Ferric ion-triggered surface oxidation of galena for efficient chalcopyrite-galena separation

The efficient separation of chalcopyrite(CuFeS2)and galena(PbS)is essential for optimal resource utilization.However,find-ing a selective depressant that is environmentally friendly and cost effective remains a challenge.Through various techniques,such as mi-croflotation tests,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy(SEM)observation,X-ray photoelectron spec-troscopy(XPS),and Raman spectroscopy measurements,this study explored the use of ferric ions(Fe^(3+))as a selective depressant for ga-lena.The results of flotation tests revealed the impressive selective inhibition capabilities of Fe^(3+)when used alone.Surface analysis showed that Fe^(3+)significantly reduced the adsorption of isopropyl ethyl thionocarbamate(IPETC)on the galena surface while having a minimal impact on chalcopyrite.Further analysis using SEM,XPS,and Raman spectra revealed that Fe^(3+)can oxidize lead sulfide to form compact lead sulfate nanoparticles on the galena surface,effectively depressing IPETC adsorption and increasing surface hydrophilicity.These findings provide a promising solution for the efficient and environmentally responsible separation of chalcopyrite and galena. 展开更多

In seismology and earthquake engineering,it is fundamental to identify and characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.To capture the pulses that dominate structural responses,this study establishes congruence and shift relationships between response spectrum surfaces.A similarity search between spectrum surfaces,supplemented with a similarity search in time series,has been applied to characterize the pulse-like features in pulse-type ground motions.The identified pulses are tested in predicting the rocking consequences of slender rectangular blocks under the original ground motions.Generally,the prediction is promising for the majority of the ground motions where the dominant pulse is correctly identified. 展开更多

To improve the surface quality for aluminum alloy 6061(Al6061) in ultra-precision machining, we investigated the factors affecting the surface finish in single point diamond turning(SPDT)by studying influence of the precipitates generation of Al6061 on surface integrity and surface roughness.Based on the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami solid phase transformation kinetics equation, theoretical and experimental studies were conducted to build the relationship between the aging condition and the type, size and number of the precipitates for Al6061. Diamond cutting experiments were conducted to machine Al6061 samples under different aging conditions. The experimental results show that, the protruding on the chip surface is mainly Mg_(2)Si and the scratches on the machined surface mostly come from the iron-containing phase(α-, β-AlFeSi).Moreover, the generated Mg_(2)Si and α-, β-AlFeSi affect the surface integrity and the diamond turned surface roughness. Especially, the achieved surface roughness in SPDT is consistent with the variation of the number of AlFeSi and Mg_(2)Si with the medium size(more than 1 μm and less than 2 μm) in Al6061. 展开更多
