Laser sintering experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of laser energy density(E = P/v), with different laser power(P) and scanning velocity(v), on the dimensional accuracy and tensile strength of sintered parts. The experimental results indicate that with the constant scanning velocity, the tensile strength of sintered samples increases with an increase in laser energy density; while the dimensional accuracy apparently decreases when the laser energy density is larger than 0.032 J·mm-2. When the laser energy density is 0.024 J·mm-2, the tensile strength shows no obvious change; but when the laser energy density is larger than 0.024 J·mm-2, the sample strength is featured by the initial increase and subsequent decrease with simultaneous increase of both laser power and scanning velocity. In this study, the optimal energy density range for laser sintering is 0.024-0.032 J·mm-2. However, the WSCs without any additons have low tensile strength and low humidity resistance. The purpose of this study is to prepare a water-soluble potassium carbonate sand core with addition of kaolin by the hot-temping method. The effects of kaolin on tensile strength, humidity resistance, fracture mechanism, as well as the gas evolution and collapsibility of WSCs were investigated. Results show that both the crystal morphology and the fracture mechanism of the inorganic salt are changed under the participation of kaolin, contributing to the increase of the tensile strength and the humidity resistance of the core. With the addition of 3wt.% kaolin, the tensile strength could be increased by a factor of 2, reached 1.50 MPa and the hygroscopic rate could be decreased by 14%, achieved 0.559%(after stored for 8 h), respectively. As the addition amount of kaolin increases from 0wt.% to 3wt.%, the main fracture mechanism changes from a adhesive to a cohesive fracture mechanism. Various types of precipitates were characterized using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electronmicroscopy. The results showed that in the fusion zone, the volume fraction of Nb-rich phases such as Laves, (Nb,Ti)C, and δ phases, as wellas Ti-rich phases such as (Ti,Nb)CN and (Ti,Nb)N, increased with increase in the nitrogen content due to the microsegregation of Nb and Tiwithin interdendritic areas. Nitrogen was also found to decrease the size of γ′′ particles within γ dendrites. For precipitates in the partiallymelted zone, constitutional liquation was observed for both (Nb,Ti)C and (Ti,Nb)N particles. Based on the results of tensile tests, the weld containing0.015wt% nitrogen exhibited the highest ultimate tensile strength (UTS), whereas more addition of nitrogen led to a decrease in both theUTS and yield strength due to the increased content of brittle Laves phases and decreased size of γ′′.展开更多

It is found that cold rolling produced elongated grains, parallel to the rolling direction, and the highest degree of grain-elongation is found as a band in the center of the specimens. Shearing effects of cold rolling the buckled surface produced equiaxed grains near the rolling surfaces, and may have played a role in reducing the effect of string forming solutes near the said surfaces. Higher percent reduction performed in one stage of cold rolling produced a higher increase in tensile strength and a more significant decrease in ductility. Annealing produced the softest material.展开更多

In this study, potential of baked clay as an economical material of building construction is investigated in order to replace normal concrete. For this purpose, compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay fired at 1000℃ were determined. 文摘The evolution of the microstructure and tensile properties of dual-phase Al0.6CoCrFeNi high-entropy alloys(HEAs)subjected to cold rolling was investigated. The homogenized Al0.6CoCrFeNi alloys consisted of face-centered-cubic and body-centered-cubic phases, presenting similar mechanical behavior as the as-cast state. The yield and tensile strengths of the alloys could be dramatically enhanced to^1205 MPa and^1318 MPa after 50%rolling reduction, respectively.A power-law relationship was discovered between the strain-hardening exponent and rolling reduction. The tensile strengths of this dual-phase HEA with different cold rolling treatments were predicted, mainly based on the Hollomon relationship,by the strain-hardening exponent, and showed good agreement with the experimental results.

文摘This paper develops a model that only requires two sets of small-size rock specimens with the ratio of the structural geometry parameter maximum to minimum ae,max:ae,min≥3:1 to determine the rock fracture and strength parameters without size effect and predict the actual structural performance of rock.Regardless of three-point-bending,four-point-bending,or a combination of the above two specimen types, fracture toughness KICand tensile strength ftof rock were determined using only two sets of specimens with ae,max:ae,min≥3:1.The values KICand ftwere consistent with those determined using multiple sets of specimens. The full structural failure curve constructed by two sets of small-size specimens with ae,max:ae,min≥3:1 can accurately predict large-size specimens fracture failure,and±10%upper and lower limits of the curve can encompass the test results of large-size specimens. The peak load prediction curve was constructed by two sets of specimens with ae,max:ae,min≥3:1,and±15%upper and lower limits of the peak load prediction curve can cover the small-size specimen tests data. The model and method proposed in this paper require only two sets of small-size specimens, and their selection is unaffected by the specimen type, geometry, and initial crack length.

文摘The influence of nitrogen content on the precipitation of secondary phases and the tensile strength of Alloy 718 during gas tungstenarc welding was investigated. Based on the results of tensile tests, the weld containing0.015wt% nitrogen exhibited the highest ultimate tensile strength (UTS), whereas more addition of nitrogen led to a decrease in both theUTS and yield strength due to the increased content of brittle Laves phases and decreased size of γ′′.
文摘Use of environmentally friendly approaches with the purpose of strengthening soil layers along with finding correlations between the mechanical characteristics of fiber-reinforced soils such as indirect tensile strength(ITS)and California bearing ratio(CBR)and as well as the evaluation of shear strength parameters obtained from the triaxial test would be very effective at geotechnical construction sites. This research was aimed at investigating the influence of natural fibers as sustainable ones including basalt(BS)and bagasse(BG)as well as synthetic polyester(PET)fibers on the strength behavior of clayey soil.To this end,the effects of various fiber contents(0.5%,1%and 2%)and lengths(2.5 mm,5 mm and 7.5 mm)were experimentally evaluated.By conducting ITS and CBR tests,it was found that increasing fiber content and length had a significant influence on CBR and ITS values.Moreover,2%of 7.5 mm-long fibers led to the largest values of CBR and ITS.The CBR values of soil reinforced with PET,BS,and BG fibers were determined as 19.17%,15.43%and 13.16%,respectively.The ITS values of specimens reinforced with PET,BS,and BG fibers were reported as 48.57 kPa,60.7 kPa and 47.48 kPa,respectively. The results of the triaxial compression test revealed that with the addition of BS fibers, the internal friction angle increased by about 100%,and with the addition of PET fibers, the cohesion increased by about 70%.Moreover,scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis was employed to confirm the findings. The relationship between CBR and ITS values, obtained via statistical analysis and used for the optimum design of road pavement layers, demonstrated that these parameters had high correlation coefficients. The outcomes of multiple linear regression and sensitivity analysis also confirmed that the fiber content had a greater effect on CBR and ITS values than fiber length.

文摘The splitting test is a competitive alternative method to study the tensile strength of sea ice owing to its suitability for sampling. However, the approach was questioned to the neglect of local plastic deformation during the tests. In this study, splitting tests were performed on sea ice, with 32 samples subjected to the regular procedure and 8 samples subjected to the digital image correlation method. The salinity, density, and temperature were measured to determine the total porosity. With the advantage of the digital image correlation method, the full-field deformation of the ice samples could be determined. In the loading direction, the samples mainly deformed at the ice-platen contact area.In the direction vertical to the loading, deformation appears along the central line where the splitting crack occurs.Based on the distribution of the sample deformation,a modified solution was derived to calculate the tensile strength with the maximum load.Based on the modified solution, the tensile strength was further calculated together with the splitting test results. The results show that the tensile strength has a negative correlation with the total porosity, which agrees with previous studies based on uniaxial tension tests.
文摘The scope of this research is to compare the grain morphology and hardness of aluminum alloy 6061 samples in three conditions: fully rolled (full hard), partially annealed (half hard), and fully annealed (soft). Annealing produced the softest material.
文摘In this paper, the relation between the tensile strength, breaking elongationand the Crystallinity,Orientation of silk was studied, which obtalned from thecocoons with different silk worm races, sexes, cocooning conditions. The Crystallinity and degree of Crystal Orientation of fibroin were determinedby the X-ray diffraction.and the birefringence of fibroin was measured withInterference microscope. The research showed that the dependence of strength and elongation of rawsilk on Its crystailinity was not so closed.Although there was linear correlation ofstrength with the birefringence and the degree of crystal orientation of fibroin. But the correlation coefficient of the former was larger than the latter. Therefore, adopting birefringence method which would reflected the degree of orlentation ofboth the amorphous and crystalline region of fibroln was suitable for consideringthe strength. The correlation coefficients of strength and elongation withbirefringence were 0.96 and 0.77 respectively. The latter one was
文摘Dynamic properties of limestone govern the rock fragmentation characteristics.Failure of rock under tension is more likely as compared to failure under compression under static or dynamic loading both.Since the application of explosives creates dynamic loading and is a dynamic event, the determination of dynamic modulus values is technically more appropriate than the static measurement. The rock fragmentation would significantly improve by investigating the dynamic uniaxial tensile strength as specific fracture energy, stress intensity factor, fracture toughness of any detonating blast hole depend heavily on dynamic rock property and not on static rock property. Most of the limestone projects globally are still accustomed with using static tensile strength to understand the rock fragmentation. The present papers deal with determination of dynamic uniaxial tensile property using split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)system. The nano second high speed camera with laser captures the crack surface opening velocity during dynamic loading. It was observed during data analysis that dynamic tensile strength of limestone increases by 1.2-2.3 times of the static strength. It may be concluded by the study that determination of dynamic tensile strength is paramount for understanding the rock fragmentation.
文摘Due to high cost of aggregates, cement and steel in plain regions of Pakistan, low income people are unable to get their houses constructed using Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC). In this study, potential of baked clay as an economical material of building construction is investigated in order to replace normal concrete. For this purpose, compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay fired at 1000℃ were determined. The results show that the compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay are about 65%, and 80% more than those of corresponding values of normal concrete, respectively. This implies that by utilizing reinforced baked clay instead of RCC, saving of cement aggregates and reinforcing steel could be achieved.

文摘SiC is the most common reinforcement in magnesium matrix composites, and the tensile strength of SiC-reinforced magnesium matrix composites is closely related to the distribution of SiC.Achieving a uniform distribution of SiC requires fine control over the parameters of SiC and the processing and preparation process. However, due to the numerous adjustable parameters, using traditional experimental methods requires a considerable amount of experimentation to obtain a uniformly distributed composite material. Therefore, this study adopts a machine learning approach to explore the tensile strength of SiC-reinforced magnesium matrix composites in the mechanical stirring casting process.By analyzing the influence of SiC parameters and processing parameters on composite material performance,we have established an effective predictive model.Furthermore, six different machine learning regression models have been developed to predict the tensile strength of SiC-reinforced magnesium matrix composites.Through validation and comparison, our models demonstrate good accuracy and reliability in predicting the tensile strength of the composite material. The research findings indicate that hot extrusion treatment,SiC content, and stirring time have a significant impact on the tensile strength.

文摘This research investigates the effect of internal defects on the tensile strength of Selective Laser Melting(SLM)additively-manufactured aluminum alloy(AlSi10Mg)test parts used for civil aircraft light weight design.A Finite Element Analysis(FEA)model containing internal defects was established by combining test data and the stress concentration factor comparison method. The effect of variation in the number, location and shape of defects on the finite element results was analyzed. Its results show that it is reasonable to use spherical defect modeling. The finite element modeling and analysis methods are also applied to the study of the effect of internal defects on tensile strength in additive manufacturing of other metallic materials.According to the FEA results of single defects at different scales, the formula for calculating the weakening degree of tensile strength applicable to the defective area of less than 15%was established. The result of the procedure is reliable and conservative. This research results can guide the selection of process parameters for the additive manufacturing of aluminum alloys.Further, the research results can promote the application of metal additive manufacturing in designing light-weight civil aircraft structures.

文摘According to the limit equilibrium state of soils behind rigid walls and the pseudo-static approach,a general closed-form solution to seismic and static active earth pressure on the walls, which considers shear and tension failure of the retained soil,is put forward using a variational calculus method. The application point of the active resultant force specified in the proposed method is explained with a clear physical meaning related to possible movement modes of the walls. In respect of the derived nine dependent equations reflecting the functional characteristics of the earth pressure, the proposed method can be performed easily via an implicit strategy. There are 13 basic factors related to the retained soils, walls, and external loads to be involved in the proposed method. The tension crack segment of the slip surface is obviously influenced by these parameters, apart from vertical seismic coefficient and geometric bounds of the surcharge, but the shear slip segment maintains an approximately planar shape almost uninfluenced by these parameters.Noticeably, the proposed method quantitatively reflects that the resultant of the active earth pressure is always within a limited range under different possible movements of the same wall.

文摘Heterocyclic aramid fibers,a typical kind of high-performance fibers, have been widely used in aerospace and protection fields because of their excellent mechanical properties. However, the application of heterocyclic aramid fibers as a reinforcement is hindered by the weak interfacial combination with matrix materials, especially epoxy.Traditional strategies enhancing the interfacial shear strength(IFSS)usually decrease the tensile strength. Therefore, simultaneous enhancement of both mechanical properties remains a challenge.Herein,we report a novel heterocyclic aramid fiber with high interfacial shear strength(49.3 MPa)and tensile strength(6.27 GPa),in which 4,4′-diamino-2′-chlorobenzanilide(DABA-Cl)and a small amount of graphene oxide(GO)are introduced through in-situ polymerization.Hydrogen bonds andπ–πinteraction between GO and polymer chains trigger the enhancement in crystallinity, orientation, and lateral interaction of the fibers, thus improving the tensile strength and interfacial shear strength of the fibers. Moreover, the interfacial interaction between fiber and epoxy is enhanced due to the improvement of the surface polarity of the fibers caused by DABA-Cl.Therefore,a method to improve both tensile strength and interfacial shear strength of heterocyclic aramid fibers was found by introducing GO and DABA-Cl,which may provide guidance for the design and preparation of other high-performance fibers.
