This paper systematically studies the flashover probability of wind turbine blade lightning arrester and the impact of strong electromagnetic pulses on the local and surrounding wind turbines during lightning strikes.The research results indicate that the flashover probability of direct lightning strikes by the wind turbine blade lightning arrester is almost negligible,and the strong electromagnetic pulse of wind turbine blade during lightning strikes has a serious impact on the electronic equipment of the machine,while the impact on the surrounding wind turbine is relatively small.At the same time,the calculation formula for the reflection of lightning current on the carbon brush between the wind turbine hub and the engine compartment during the flashing of the wind turbine blades is provided,and the calculation method for calculating the spatial gradient distribution of electromagnetic field intensity using Biot-Savart Law theorem is applied.The limitations of using wind turbine blades for lightning protection are pointed out,and a technical route for achieving wind turbine lightning safety is proposed,which can be used as a reference for wind turbine lightning protection technicians. 展开更多

Proper Understanding of the Nerve Impulses and the Action Potential

Neurologists define the transmission of nerve impulses across the membranes of the neural cells as a result of difference in the concentration of ions while they measured an electric potential, called as an action pot... Neurologists define the transmission of nerve impulses across the membranes of the neural cells as a result of difference in the concentration of ions while they measured an electric potential, called as an action potential, which allows the propagation of such nerve impulses as electrical signals. Such measurements should guide them to a logical explanation of the nerve impulses as electric charges driven by the measured action potential. However, such logical conclusion, or explanation, is ignored due to a wrong definition of the flow of electric charges as a flow of electrons that cannot pass through neural networks. According to recent studies, electric charges are properly defined as electromagnetic (EM) waves whose energy is expressed as the product of its propagating electric potential times their entropy flow which is adhered to the flow of such energy. Such definition matches the logical conclusion of the nerve impulses as electric charges, as previously explained, and defines the entropy of the neural network, measured by Ammeters, in Watt or Joule/Volt. The measured entropy represents a neurodiagnostic property of the neural networks that measures its capacity to allow the flow of energy per unit action potential. Theoretical verification of the innovative definition of nerve impulses is presented by following an advanced entropy approach. A proper review of the machine records of the stimulating electric charges, used in the diagnosis of the neural networks, and the stimulated nerve impulses or stimulated responses, represents practical verifications of the innovative definitions of the electric charges and the nerve impulses. Comparing the functioning of the thermoelectric generators and the brain neurons, such neurons are defined as thermoelectric generators of the electric nerve impulses and their propagating, or action, potential. 展开更多

In order to resolve direction finding problems in the impulse noise,a direction of arrival(DOA)estimation method is proposed.The proposed DOA estimation method can restrain the impulse noise by using infinite norm exponential kernel covariance matrix and obtain excellent performance via the maximumlikelihood(ML)algorithm.In order to obtain the global optimal solutions of this method,a quantum electromagnetic field optimization(QEFO)algorithm is designed.In view of the QEFO algorithm,the proposed method can resolve the difficulties of DOA estimation in the impulse noise.Comparing with some traditional DOA estimation methods,the proposed DOA estimation method shows high superiority and robustness for determining the DOA of independent and coherent sources,which has been verified via the Monte-Carlo experiments of different schemes,especially in the case of snapshot deficiency,low generalized signal to noise ratio(GSNR)and strong impulse noise.Beyond that,the Cramer-Rao bound(CRB)of angle estimation in the impulse noise and the proof of the convergence of the QEFO algorithm are provided in this paper. 展开更多

The Field Shielding Effect of Mountain on the Lightning Electromagnetic Field

In this paper we have studied the effect of strike to a cone-shaped mountain surrounded by two chains of hills on the lightning vertical electric field and azimuthal magnetic field at different distances, by using two-dimensional finite-difference time-domain (2-D FDTD) method in cylindrical coordinate systems. In order to analyze the electrostatic shielding effect of strike to a cone-shaped mountain surrounded by two chains of hills on the lightning, we chose three mountains, and the left one is stroke by lightning, and the right one is near the obervation site, and the middle one with the top heights increasing from 0 to 2 km is between them. For the observed point, the electrostatic shielding effect of the right one on the lightning vertical electric field is the most serious, and the electric field is much less than that for strike to flat ground level;compared with the electric field, the shielding effect of the right one on the lightning azimuthal magnetic field becomes less, for most cases, the lightning magnetic field at the observed site is larger than that for flat ground cases mainly due to that of the increment caused by strike to the right mountain. With the increase of distance (e.g., 20 km from the lightning strike point), the shielding effect of the right mountain on the lightning field becomes less, because the reflected wave from the right mountain bottom plays a more important role over intermediate ranges, and the far radiation electromagnetic field peak value becomes larger due to such a reflecting wave. Therefore, in the lightning detecting technique, we should pay more attention to the effect caused by chains of hills on the lightning location and the estimation of lightning current peak. 展开更多

The propagation of the lightning-radiated electromagnetic field along the real irregular terrain around Yangzhou Direction Finder(DF)site(119°42′E,32°39′N)and Nanjing DF site(118°46′E,32°03′N)of Jiangsu Province in China is estimated.The results show that the rough irregular terrain results in the rapid magnitude attenuation and the increase of the rise-time of the field waveform.For example,for the Yangzhou DF site as the circumference of a radius of 45 km,the root-mean-squared height(RMSH)of the real irregular terrain varies from 7 to 33 m;the extra field attenuation relative to the ideal ground surface ranges from 1%to 11%,and the extra rise-time increment varies from 0.1 to 0.6μs.Therefore,the extracted current peak of lightning return stroke may be underestimated from the remotely measured electromagnetic field,and the error varies along with different azimuths. 展开更多

Properties of Electrical Discharges Developing in Transformer Oil Under Lightning Impulse in the Setup of Insulated Electrodes

Looking at the problem of electrical discharge development in mineral oil, it is easy to see that most studies in this area focused on the setups of bare high voltage electrodes having a point-plane electrode arrangement. The setups with insulated electrodes are the mar- gin of these studies but it seems to be important to find the dependences between the paper insulation on high voltage electrode and parameters of the discharges initiated in the vicinity of this electrode. Hence, in this paper the results of researches intended to reveal the role of insulation wrapping on a HV electrode in the mechanism of electrical discharges in transformer oil under lightning impulse of both polar- ities are presented. This role is determined by analysis of the parameters characterizing the discharges (onset voltage, propagation velocity, time to initiation, rise-time of light impulses) and also by observation of their spatio-temporal development and oscillograms of the light emitted by their channels. The research was performed for two model electrode configurations: an electrode with paper insulation and a bare electrode which had the same outer dimensions as the insulated one. The most essential conclusion from performed experiment is related to times to initiation. These times, equal in the case of insulated electrodes and model bare electrode, indicate that the source of "weak points" of the paper-oil insulation system is the oil, not the surface of insulation wrapping or the metal. 展开更多

Transient over voltages due to lightning and switching surges cause steep build-up of voltage on transmission lines and other electrical apparatus,like circuit breakers,transformers,insulators etc.Therefore it is necessary for the GIS also to withstand such voltages without breakdown of Insulation.The system has to be tested under these conditions.Usually the GIS system operates on power frequency.Lightning Impulse Voltage of 1050 kV and Switching Impulse Voltage of 750 kV superimposed on Power frequency voltages of 75 kV,100 kV and 132 kV are applied to Single Phase Gas Insulated Busduct and the maximum movement of Aluminum,Copper and Silver particles is determined.The movement patterns are also determined with and without Monte Carlo Simulation for movement of particle in axial and radial directions.The results show that there is a sudden jump in the movement at the application of impulse on sine wave.This is because of high magnitude voltage of 1050 kV during 1.2/50 μs.Similar movement patterns of reduced maximum movement is observed for Switching Impulse superimposed on sine wave.The results are presented and analyzed. 展开更多

Based on the method of controlling welding stress with trailing, the electromagnetic force in coil-sheet system was simulated with finite element software ANSYS. The effect of parameters of coil on the electromagnetic force density fy was analyzed. The results show that the maximum electromagnetic force density fy, max in sheet appears in the position near the inner radius of single-turn coil. The position is independent of section shape of coil. fy, max for flat coil is larger than that for long coil and the coil with wedge shape section, while section areas of all coils are equal to each other. The effect of turn number of multiple-turn coil on fy is dependent on the loop resistance in circuit. The kind of coil with more turns and larger inductance is commended while there is larger loop resistance in circuit. fy increases in a certain magnitude while a magnetic core is located in coil. However, the magnitude of fy is limited by saturating magnetic flux of the core. 展开更多

Lighting rod arrester is used to shield the tower and provide another routine for lightning current, decreasing the potential of tower overhead. In this paper, the performance of a 500 kV lighting rod arrester is tested used in AC transmission system under the current impulse. Besides, the influence of the lightning rod arrester performance on the top potential of tower is also studied. The results show that, when the rod arrester is connected to the tower, the top potential of tower can be obviously limited under the lightning strike. 展开更多

It is shown that the positive and negative lightning impulse breakdown voltages of 10%c-C_4F_8/N_2/CO_2 gas mixtures rise linearly as the electrode gap distance and gas pressure increase and under the same conditions, the positive lightning impulse breakdown voltage of the gas mixtures is always higher than the negative lightning impulse breakdown voltage. As the gas mixtures have a little higher liquefied temperature than SF6 and the comprehensive GWP is about 5% of SF_6, and the positive and negative lightning impulse breakdown voltages can both reach 60% of SF6, 10%c-C_4F_8/N_2/CO_2 gas mixtures can be applied as insulation gas in electrical equipment such as C-GIS, GIT, GIL and so on. 展开更多

牵引供电系统遭受雷击会在分区所内产生过电压与过电流,对分区所开关柜中二次设备产生瞬态电磁干扰,影响其正常运行。文中针对电气化铁路隧道分区所,建立雷击暂态仿真模型,计算了接触网不同位置遭受雷击时分区所的过电压与过电流,建立了... 牵引供电系统遭受雷击会在分区所内产生过电压与过电流,对分区所开关柜中二次设备产生瞬态电磁干扰,影响其正常运行。文中针对电气化铁路隧道分区所,建立雷击暂态仿真模型,计算了接触网不同位置遭受雷击时分区所的过电压与过电流,建立了27.5 kV开关柜的电磁场有限元仿真模型,分析开关柜中不同区域的瞬态电场、磁场分布。结果表明:雷击接触网会在分区所内产生幅值较大、频率较高的过电压与过电流,在其作用下开关柜低压室瞬态电场可达147.2 V/m、瞬态磁场可达1.3 kA/m,断路器室前壁处瞬态电场可达822.9 kV/m、瞬态磁场可达15.85 kA/m,超过标准规定的幅值,二次设备需要考虑相应的电磁屏蔽措施。论文结果对牵引供电系统雷击过电压/电流防护以及二次设备电磁兼容设计具有参考价值。 展开更多

为了实现气体绝缘开关柜的绝缘介质由SF6向干燥空气等环保型气体转变,开发一种结构小型化、绝缘水平满足要求的干燥空气绝缘开关柜中使用的固封极柱是亟需解决的问题。文中分析了40.5 kV SF6固封极柱置于干燥空气绝缘开关柜中的相间及... 为了实现气体绝缘开关柜的绝缘介质由SF6向干燥空气等环保型气体转变,开发一种结构小型化、绝缘水平满足要求的干燥空气绝缘开关柜中使用的固封极柱是亟需解决的问题。文中分析了40.5 kV SF6固封极柱置于干燥空气绝缘开关柜中的相间及对地电场分布,结果显示灭弧室动、静端盖板以及绝缘拉杆附近的气—固沿面电场严重超标,易造成沿面闪络。依据气—固复合绝缘理论,采取增加均压屏蔽网、改进绝缘壳体外观结构、重新设计绝缘拉杆等措施进行电场优化。通过仿真分析,优化设计后的固封极柱灭弧室端盖附近沿面最大场强由3.4 kV/mm降至2.03 kV/mm,绝缘拉杆沿面最大场强由4.1 kV/mm降至1.7 kV/mm。对优化前后的固封极柱进行了局部放电和雷电冲击耐压试验,局部放电试验的起弧电压由35 kV提升到62 kV,雷电冲击耐压试验的峰值耐受电压由145 kV提升到218 kV,证明了优化方案的可行性,为后续40.5 kV及更高电压等级的类似固封极柱的研发及优化提供了有关参考。 展开更多

随着电磁环境的日益复杂,电子设备面临的电磁威胁愈加严峻。光电系统作为高灵敏集成化电子设备,强电磁脉冲能量耦合进入系统内部,影响防护能力本就薄弱的光电系统的正常运行。为明晰典型光电系统强电磁耦合过程,通过仿真分析不同强电磁... 随着电磁环境的日益复杂,电子设备面临的电磁威胁愈加严峻。光电系统作为高灵敏集成化电子设备,强电磁脉冲能量耦合进入系统内部,影响防护能力本就薄弱的光电系统的正常运行。为明晰典型光电系统强电磁耦合过程,通过仿真分析不同强电磁辐照条件下筒型、侧窗型和多窗口型三种典型光电系统的强电磁耦合情况,提取了光电系统强电磁耦合特征及其制约因素,验证了光电系统进行强电磁防护加固的必要性和紧迫性。为解决光电系统强电磁防护能力薄弱的问题,通过仿真分析,验证了透明电磁防护窗口的强电磁加固效能;开展了基于支撑台阶与导电侧壁的电磁缝隙防护加固方法研究,分析了透明防护窗口缝隙耦合泄露的关键安装结构参数,提出了一种非电接触式装配缝隙强电磁防护加固方法。经测试,当缝隙防护结构长度为6 mm时,在0.2~4 GHz频率范围光电系统平均强电磁防护效能提升4.51 dB。研究结果为光电系统强电磁防护能力提升提供了理论指导和具体解决方案。 展开更多

固体火箭低空飞行时很有可能遭遇雷击从而造成其内部电气设备的损坏。为了研究雷击信号下固体火箭周围的电磁环境及其内部电缆上的感应电流,建立了固体火箭的仿真模型,基于CST电缆工作室中的TLM时域求解器对固体火箭周围的电磁场及其内... 固体火箭低空飞行时很有可能遭遇雷击从而造成其内部电气设备的损坏。为了研究雷击信号下固体火箭周围的电磁环境及其内部电缆上的感应电流,建立了固体火箭的仿真模型,基于CST电缆工作室中的TLM时域求解器对固体火箭周围的电磁场及其内部线缆上的感应电流进行了仿真。结果表明,固体火箭开敞尾端的电磁环境较为恶劣,同轴线芯线较单线上的感应电流更小,对屏蔽层加厚或使用双层屏蔽则可以获得更好的屏蔽效果。所得结果对厘清雷电电磁脉冲对固体火箭内部线缆的电磁效应继而开展其雷电防护工作具有重要的实际意义。 展开更多
