Trimaran hydrodynamics have been an important research topic in recent years.Trimarans have even been chosen for naval surface combatants. In this case, investigation of a trimaran with different outrigger positions is important and necessary for better hydrodynamic performance. This paper focuses on the numerical investigation of trimaran hydrodynamics. The trimaran model used in this study is a 1/80 scale high-speed displacement frigate-type concept developed by the Center for Innovation in Ship Design(CISD)at Naval Surface Warfare Center,Carderock Division(NSWCCD).The numerical simulations were conducted for different outrigger positions at low and moderate Froude numbers by using commercial CFD software solving URANS equations.A verification and validation study was carried out for the numerical method in one configuration and one ship velocity. The existing experimental results for the trimaran resistance in the literature were used for validation.Five different outrigger positions were analyzed and the form factor of each configuration was calculated by the Prohaska method. The total resistance was decomposed to its components using the form factor. The interference factor was calculated for each configuration in terms of total resistance, residual resistance and wave resistance. Also, wave profiles using the longitudinal wave cuts in different locations were obtained both numerically and experimentally. It was concluded that the outrigger position had different effects on the interference, total resistance and wave profile at different Froude numbers. It was also shown that the CFD results were in good agreement with the experimental data in all configurations. In conclusion, this study presents the results of interference effects for different trimaran configurations in terms of wave resistance in addition to the total resistance and residual resistance. The numerical method was validated not only with the total resistance test data but also the longitudinal wave profiles along the hull. 展开更多

The gun-track launch system is a new special launch device that connects the track outside the muzzle.Because it is constrained by the track, the characteristics of development of the muzzle jet differ from those of the traditional muzzle jet.Specifically,it changes from freely developing to doing so in a constrained manner, where this results in an asymmetric direction of flow as well as spatio-temporal coupling-induced interference between various shock waves and the formation of vortices. In this background, the authors of this article formulate and consider the development and characteristics of evolution of the muzzle jet as it impacts a constrained moving body.We designed simulations to test the gun-track launch system, and established a numerical model based on the dynamic grid method to explore the development and characteristics of propagation of disturbances when the muzzle jet impacted a constrained moving body.We also considered models without a constrained track for the sake of comparison. The results showed that the muzzle jet assumed a circumferential asymmetric shape, and tended to develop in the area above the muzzle.Because the test platform was close to the ground, the muzzle jet was subjected to reflections from it that enhanced the development and evolution of various forms of shock waves and vortices in the muzzle jet to exacerbate its rate of distortion and asymmetric characteristics. This in turn led to significant differences in the changes in pressure at symmetric points that would otherwise have been identical. The results of a comparative analysis showed that the constrained track could hinder the influence of reflections from the ground on the muzzle jet to some extent, and could reduce the velocity of the shock waves inducing the motion of the muzzle as well as the Mach number of the moving body. The work here provides a theoretical basis and the requisite technical support for applications of the gun-track launch system. It also sheds light on the technical bottlenecks that need to be considered to recover high-value warheads. 展开更多

The interference between two dissociating wave packets of the I2 molecule driven by femtosecond laser pulses is theoreticaly studied by using the time-dependent quantum wave packet method. Both the internuclear distance-and velocity-dependent density functions are calculated and discussed. It is demonstrated that the interference pattern is determined by the phase difference and the delay time between two pump pulses. With two identical pulses with a delay time of 305 fs and a FWHM of 20 fs, more interference fringes can be observed, while with two pump pulses with a delay time of 80 fs and a FWHM of 20 fs, only a few interference fringes can be observed. 展开更多

Laser self-mixing interference(SMI) wave plate measurement method is a burgeoning technique for its simplicity and efficiency. But for the non-coated sample, the reflected light from the surface can seriously affect the measurement results. To analyze the reason theoretically, a self-consistent model for laser operation with a sub-external and an external cavity is established, and the sub-external cavity formed by the sample and a cavity mirror is proved to be the main error source.A synchronous tuning method is proposed to eliminate the sub-external cavity effect. Experiments are carried out on the synchronously tuning double external cavities self-mixing interference system, and the error of the system is in the range of -0.435°~0.387° compared with the ellipsometer. The research plays an important role in improving the performance and enlarging the application range of the laser self-mixing interference system. 展开更多

In clinical practice, dentists sometimes encounter phenomena that cannot be explained by modern western medical concepts;for example, the patient’s medical symptoms improve by bringing medicines or dentures close to the body. Although it seems difficult to completely elucidate the mechanism through modern western medicine, it can be explained using quantum mechanics. The quantum, the smallest unit of matter composition, exhibits wave-particle duality. The fact that symptoms can be improved simply by bringing dentures or medicines closer to the body indicates that the waves emitted by dentures or medicines interfere with the pathological waves emitted by the pathological site. Thus, the pathological waves are deformed and lead to a change in symptoms. In this way, quantum theory can explain phenomena that are difficult to elucidate in conventional medicine, which are encountered in clinical practice. So far, the author has presented a case of difficulty in raising the upper limb where the symptoms improved without the need for dentures in the mouth by adjusting the dentures outside the mouth. This time, the author would like to introduce a case which the patient’s knee pain improved by adjusting the dentures outside the mouth. 展开更多

The development of new technologies in smart cities is often hailed as it becomes a necessity to solve many problems like energy consumption and transportation. Wireless networks are part of these technologies but implementation of several antennas, using different frequency bandwidths for many applications might introduce a negative effect on human health security. In wireless networks, most antennas generate sidelobes SSL. SSL causes interference and can be an additional resource for RF power that can affect human being health. This paper aims to study algorithms that can reduce SSL. The study concerns typical uniform linear antenna arrays. Different optimum side lobe level reduction algorithms are presented. Genetic algorithm GA, Chebyshev, and Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm are used in the optimization process. A comparative study between the indicated algorithms in terms of stability, precision, and running time is shown. Results show that using these algorithms in optimizing antenna parameters can reduce SSL. A comparison of these algorithms is carried out and results show the difference between them in terms of running time and SSL reduction Level. 展开更多

In the present study seismic wave propagation in heterogeneous media is numerically simulated by using the pseudospectral method with the staggered grid RFFT differentiation in order to clarify the cause for the complicated distribution characteristics of strong ground motion in regions with basin structure. The results show that the maximum amplitudes of simulated ground acceleration waveforms are closely related to the basin structure. Interference of seismic waves in the basin strongly affects the distribution of maximum seismic waveforms, which may result in peak disasters during earthquakes. Peak disasters might be away from basin boundaries or earthquake faults. Seismic energy transmitted into the basin from the bedrock can hardly penetrate the bottom of the basin and then travel back into the bedrock region. The seismic energy is absorbed by basin media, and transferred into the kinematical energy of seismic waves with great amplitude in the basin. Seismic waves between basins may result in serious damage to buildings over the basin. This is significant for aseismatic research. Geological surveys in and around urban areas would benefit aseismatic research and mitigation of seismic disasters of a city. Such geological surveys should involve seismic velocity structure in the media above the bedrock besides such subjects as active faults and geological structure. 展开更多

In clinical practice, dentists sometimes encounter phenomena that cannot be explained by common medical concepts;for example, patients’ bodily symptoms immediately improved after adjusting a denture that was not even inside their mouth, by extracting an infected tooth, and by bringing medicine close to the body. Although it seems difficult to completely elucidate the mechanism through modern medicine, it can be explained using quantum mechanics if it is assumed that symptoms appear because of the pathological waves emitted by the afflicted area of the body. The quantum, the smallest unit of matter composition, exhibits wave-particle duality. The fact that symptoms can be improved simply by bringing dentures or medicines closer to the body indicates that the waves emitted by dentures or medicine interfere with the pathological waves. Thus, the pathological waves are deformed and lead to a change in symptoms. In this way, quantum theory can explain phenomena that are difficult to elucidate in conventional medicine, which are encountered in daily clinical practice. Using biological reactions, unsolved problems in quantum mechanics, such as measurement problems, can be solved. 展开更多

We report on the observation of subcycle interferences of electron wave packets released during strong field ionization of H_2 with cycle-shaped two-color laser fields. With a reaction microscope we measure three-dimensional momentum distributions of photoelectrons correlated with either H_2^+ or protons within different energy ranges generated by dissociation of H_2^+. We refer to these different types of photoelectrons as channels. Our results show that the subcycle interference structures of electron wave packets are very sensitive to the cycle shape of the two-color laser field. We explain this behavior by the dependence of the ionization time within an optical cycle on the shape of the laser field cycle. The subcycle interference structures can be further used to obtain insight into the subcycle dynamics of molecules during strong field interaction. 展开更多

The overlapping-imaging effect of one-dimensional (1D) multimode interference (MMI) coupler is widened to study the two-dimensional (2D) MMI coupler. 2D overlapping-image MMI couplers permit uniform and nonuniform 2D power splitting. Analytical formulas are derived for the intensities and phases of the overlapping-images at the end of MMI section. The overlapping-imaging properties in 2D MMI couplers are also concluded. A double-slit ghost interference experiment performed on an entangled resource using type-II non-collinear degenerate spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) is demonstrated. The influence of the dis- tance between the double-slit and the bucket detector preceded by a pinhole is studied. The experimental results show that the interference fringes become increasingly distinct with higher visibility when the pinhole-double-slit distance increases. A first-order classical theory based on the Klyshko's two-photon advanced-wave picture, and a second-order quantum-image theory are provided for explanations. The fitting results indicate that the divergence of the converted fluorescence significantly affects the ghost fringes. 展开更多

Basic models of the farfield waves created by a monohull ship or a catamaran that travels at a constant speed in calm water of uniform finite depth are considered.A classical basic model is the 1-point ship model introduced by Kelvin in 1887 for deep water and extended to uniform finite water depth by Havelock in 1908.Another basic model is the 2-point ship model, which considers the two dominant waves created by the bow and the stern of a monohull ship or by the twin bows of a catamaran, and therefore accounts for main wave interference effects. These 2-point ship models contain information that cannot be found in the classical patterns for the 1-point ship model commonly used since Kelvin. In particular, whereas Havelock’s classical wave patterns for the 1-point model only depend on the Froude number based on the water depth, the farfield waves for the 2-point models of a monohull ship or a catamaran also depend on the Froude number associated with the length of the monohull ship or the spacing between the twin hulls of the catamaran. Moreover, the‘apparent wake angles’associated with the highest waves that result from constructive wave interferences can greatly differ from the cusp or asymptote angles of Havelock’s wave patterns. 展开更多

The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System provides accurate positioning service to the users within and around India, extending up to 1500 km.However, when a receiver encounters a Continuous Wave Interference, its positioning accuracy degrades,or sometimes it even fails to work.Wavelet Packet Transform(WPT)is the most widely used technique for anti-jamming in Global Navigation Satellite System receivers. But the conventional method suffers from threshold drifting and employs inflexible thresholding functions. So,to address these issues,an efficient approach using Improved Particle Swarm Optimization based Parametric Wavelet Packet Thresholding(IPSO-PWPT)is proposed.Firstly,a new parameter adaptive thresholding function is constructed. Then,a new form of inertia weight is presented to enhance the performance of PSO.Later,IPSO is used to optimize the key parameters of WPT.Finally, the implementation of the IPSO-PWPT anti-jamming algorithm is discussed. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated for various performance metrics in four jamming environments. The evaluation results manifest the proposed method’s efficacy compared to the conventional WPT in terms of anti-jamming capability. Also, the results show the ability of the new thresholding function to process various signals effectively.Furthermore, the findings reveal that the improved PSO outperforms the variants of PSO. 展开更多

Computations of far-field ship waves, based on linear potential flow theory and the Hogner approximation, are reported for monohull ships and catamarans.Specifically,far-field ship waves are computed for six monohull ships at four Froude numbers F≡V/√gL=0.58,0.68,0.86,1.58 and for six catamarans with nondimensional hull spacing s≡S/L=0.25 at two Froude numbers F s≡V/√gS=1 and 2.5.Here,g is the gravitational acceleration,V and L denote the ship speed and length, and S is the separation distance between the twin hulls of a catamaran. The computations show that, although the amplitudes of the waves created by a ship are strongly influenced by the shape of the ship hull,as well known, the ray angles where the largest waves are found are only weakly influenced by the hull shape and indeed are mostly a kinematic feature of the flow around a ship hull.An important practical consequence of this flow feature is that the apparent wake angle of general monohull ships or catamarans(with arbitrarily-shaped hulls)can be estimated, without computations,by means of simple analytical relations;these relations, obtained elsewhere via parametric computations, are given here. Moreover, the influence of the two parameters F s and s that largely determine the ray angles of the dominant waves created by a catamaran is illustrated via computations for three catamarans with hull spacings s=0.2,0.35,0.5 at four Froude numbers F s=1,1.5,2,2.5.These computations confirm that the largest waves created by wide and/or fast catamarans are found at ray angles that only depend on F s(i.e.that do not depend on the hull spacing s)in agreement with an elementary analysis of lateral interference between the dominant waves created by the bows(or sterns)of the twin hulls of a catamaran. The dominant-waves ray angles predicted by the theory of wave-interference effects for monohull ships and catamarans are also compared with the observations of narrow Kelvin ship wakes reported by Rabaud and Moisy, and found to be consistent with these observations. 展开更多
