A recently released XMM-Newton note revealed a significant calibration issue between nuclear spectroscopic telescope array(NuSTAR)and XMM-Newton European Photon Imaging Camera(EPIC)and provided an empirical correction...A recently released XMM-Newton note revealed a significant calibration issue between nuclear spectroscopic telescope array(NuSTAR)and XMM-Newton European Photon Imaging Camera(EPIC)and provided an empirical correction to the EPIC effective area.To quantify the bias caused by the calibration issue in the joint analysis of XMM-NuSTAR spectra and verify the effectiveness of the correction,in this work,we perform joint-fitting of the NuSTAR and EPIC-pn spectra for a large sample of 104 observation pairs of 44 X-ray bright active galactic nuclei(AGN).The spectra were extracted after requiring perfect simultaneity between the XMM-Newton and NuSTAR exposures(merging good time intervals(GTIs)from two missions)to avoid bias due to the rapid spectral variability of the AGN.Before the correction,the EPIC-pn spectra are systematically harder than the corresponding NuSTAR spectra by■subsequently yielding significantly underestimated cutoff energy E_(cut)and the strength of reflection component R when performing joint-fitting.We confirm that the correction is highly effective and can commendably erase the discrepancy in best-fitΓ,E_(cut),and R.We thus urge the community to apply the correction when joint-fitting XMM-NuSTAR spectra,but note that the correction is limited to 3–12 keV and therefore not applicable when the soft X-ray band data are included.Besides,we show that as merging GTIs from two missions would cause severe loss of NuSTAR net exposure time,in many cases,joint-fitting yields no advantage compared with utilizing NuSTAR data alone.Finally,We present a technical note on filtering periods of high background flares for XMM-Newton EPIC-pn exposures in the small window(SW)mode.展开更多
Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of (3-mercaptopropy) trimethoxysilane (3-MtrF) chemisorbed on silver surfaces were chemically "modified by 1-octadecanethiol to form self-assembled mixed-monolayers (SAMM) and...Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of (3-mercaptopropy) trimethoxysilane (3-MtrF) chemisorbed on silver surfaces were chemically "modified by 1-octadecanethiol to form self-assembled mixed-monolayers (SAMM) and the co-polymer of N-vinylcarbazole and methyl methacrylate ester (to form complex selfassembled film (CSAF)). The oxidation resistance of these barriers on silver surfaces and some influential factors concerned processes were analyzed by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) in a 10% NaOH aqueous solution at oxidation potential. X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy shows that the oxidation occurring on the silver surface may be restrained effectively due to the coating barrier, and CSAF(Ⅱ) is the best one. Interfacial bonding in as deposited and annealed Co/C soft X ray multilayer structures is investigated by X ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS).It is found that there is interdiffusion between cobalt and carbon ...Interfacial bonding in as deposited and annealed Co/C soft X ray multilayer structures is investigated by X ray photo electron spectroscopy (XPS).It is found that there is interdiffusion between cobalt and carbon in the as deposited Co/C multilayers,and this is confirmed by structure characterization using low angle X ray diffraction (LAXD).The calculation of the chemical shifts in Co C system based on Miedemas macroscopic atom model suggests that it is impossible to detect the chemical shift experimentally in the Co C compound,which is consistent with the XPS results.The presence of metallic carbide bonding is evidenced through the nature of the carbon bonding in survey taken at Co C and C Co interfaces of annealed samples.Our results also indicate that XPS is a direct method to probe the chemical bonding at the interfaces.展开更多
Review of X-ray dark-field imaging under development is presented. Its goal is its application to clinical diagnosis of organs that have been invisible by the ordinary techniques. In order to clinically visualize tiss...Review of X-ray dark-field imaging under development is presented. Its goal is its application to clinical diagnosis of organs that have been invisible by the ordinary techniques. In order to clinically visualize tissues in detail one needs high contrast and high spatial resolution say ~50 μm. This X-ray optics comprises a Bragg asymmetric monochro-collimator and a Bragg case or a Laue case filter with capability of analyzing angle in a parallel position. Their diffraction index is 4,4,0 and the X-ray energy 35 keV (λ= 0.0354 nm). The filter has 0.6 mm thickness in the Bragg case or 1.075 mm or 2.15 mm thickness in the Laue case. Under this condition only the refracted X-rays from object can transmit through the filter while the beam that may receive absorption and/or phase change will not. Soft tissues at human joints thus taken show high contrast images so that the DFI is promising for clinical diagnosis. Preliminary X-ray absorption images of another clinical candidates of ear bones are also shown.展开更多
In order to reduce the oxidizing and volatilizing caused by Mg element in the traditional methods for synthesizing Mg2Sil-xSnx (x=0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) solid solutions, microwave irradiation techniques were used in pr...In order to reduce the oxidizing and volatilizing caused by Mg element in the traditional methods for synthesizing Mg2Sil-xSnx (x=0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) solid solutions, microwave irradiation techniques were used in preparing them as thermoelectric materials. Structure and phase composition of the obtained materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity were measured as a function of temperature from 300 to 750 K. It is found that Mg2Si1-xSnx solid solutions are well formed with excessive content of 5% (molar fraction) Mg from the stoichiometric MgESil.xSnx under microwave irradiation. A maximum dimensionless figure of merit, ZT, of about 0.26 is obtained for Mg2Si1-xSnx solid solutions at about 500 K for x=0.6.展开更多
