Pseudorabies(PR)is an acute infectious disease of pigs caused by the PR virus(PRV)and results in great economic losses to the pig industry worldwide.PRV glycoprotein E(gE)-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)has been used to distinguish gE-deleted vaccine-immunized pigs from wild-type virus-infected pigs to eradicate PR in some countries.Nanobody has the advantages of small size and easy genetic engineering and has been a promising diagnostic reagent.However,there were few reports about developing nanobody-based ELISA for detecting anti-PRV-gE antibodies.In the present study,the recombinant PRV-gE was expressed with a bacterial system and used to immunize the Bactrian camel.Then,two nanobodies against PRV-gE were screened from the immunized camel by phage display technique.Subsequently,two nanobody-HRP fusion proteins were expressed with HEK293T cells.The PRV-gE-Nb36-HRP fusion protein was selected as the probe for developing the blocking ELISA(bELISA)to detect anti-PRV-gE antibodies.Through optimizing the conditions of bELISA,the amount of coated antigen was 200 ng per well,and dilutions of the fusion protein and tested pig sera were separately 1:320 and 1:5.The cut-off value of bELISA was 24.20%,and the sensitivity and specificity were 96.43 and 92.63%,respectively.By detecting 233 clinical pig sera with the developed bELISA and a commercial kit,the results showed that the coincidence rate of two assays was 93.99%.Additionallly,epitope mapping showed that PRV-gE-Nb36 recognized a conserved conformational epitope in different reference PRV strains.Simple,great stability and low-cost nanobody-based bELISA for detecting anti-PRV-gE antibodies were developed.The bELISA could be used for monitoring and eradicating PR. 展开更多

Greatly enhanced corrosion/wear resistances of epoxy coating for Mg alloy through a synergistic effect between functionalized graphene and insulated blocking layer

The poor corrosion and wear resistances of Mg alloys seriously limit their potential applications in various industries.The conventional epoxy coating easily forms many intrinsic defects during the solidification process,which cannot provide sufficient protection.In the current study,we design a double-layer epoxy composite coating on Mg alloy with enhanced anti-corrosion/wear properties,via the spin-assisted assembly technique.The outer layer is functionalized graphene(FG)in waterborne epoxy resin(WEP)and the inner layer is Ce-based conversion(Ce)film.The FG sheets can be homogeneously dispersed within the epoxy matrix to fill the intrinsic defects and improve the barrier capability.The Ce film connects the outer layer with the substrate,showing the transition effect.The corrosion rate of Ce/WEP/FG composite coating is 2131 times lower than that of bare Mg alloy,and the wear rate is decreased by~90%.The improved corrosion resistance is attributed to the labyrinth effect(hindering the penetration of corrosive medium)and the obstruction of galvanic coupling behavior.The synergistic effect derived from the FG sheet and blocking layer exhibits great potential in realizing the improvement of multi-functional integration,which will open up a new avenue for the development of novel composite protection coatings of Mg alloys. 展开更多

A Perspective on the Evolution of Atmospheric Blocking Theories:From Eddy-Mean flow Interaction to Nonlinear Multiscale Interaction

In this paper,we first review the research advancements in blocking dynamics and highlight the merits and drawbacks of the previous theories of atmospheric blocking.Then,the dynamical mechanisms of atmospheric blocking are presented based on a nonlinear multi-scale interaction(NMI)model.Previous studies suggested that the eddy deformation(e.g.,eddy straining,wave breaking,and eddy merging)might lead to the formation and maintenance of atmospheric blocking.However,the results were speculative and problematic because the previous studies,based on the time-mean eddy-mean flow interaction model,cannot identify the causal relationship between the evolution of atmospheric blocking and the eddy deformation.Based on the NMI model,we indicate that the onset,growth,maintenance,and decay of atmospheric blocking is mainly produced by the spatiotemporal evolution of pre-existing upstream synoptic-scale eddies,whereas the eddy deformation is a concomitant phenomenon of the blocking formation.The lifetime of blocking is mainly determined by the meridional background potential vorticity gradient(PVy)because a small PVyfavors weak energy dispersion and strong nonlinearity to sustain the blocking.But the zonal movement of atmospheric blocking is associated with the background westerly wind,PVy,and the blocking amplitude.Using this NMI model,a bridge from the climate change to sub-seasonal atmospheric blocking and weather extremes might be established via examining the effect of climate change on PVy.Thus,it is expected that using the NMI model to explore the dynamics of atmospheric blocking and its change is a new direction in the future. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Hepatic portal blood flow occlusion is a common technique for reducing hepatic hemorrhage during hepatectomy.We designed a novel Y-Z magnetic hepatic portal blocking band(Y-Z MHPBB)based on the principle of magnetic compression technique.AIM To introduce the Y-Z MHPBB device and verify the feasibility of this device for hepatic portal blood flow occlusion in dogs.METHODS Ten beagles were randomly divided into the experimental group and control group.The operation time,intraoperative blood loss,the number of portal blood flow occlusions,the total time spent on adjusting the blocking band,and the average time spent on adjusting the blocking band were recorded.The surgeons evaluated the feasibility and flexibility of the two portal occlusion devices.RESULTS Laparoscopic hepatectomy was successfully performed in both the experimental group and control group.There was no statistical difference between the two groups in the operation time,intraoperative blood loss,and the number of hepatic portal blood flow occlusions.With respect to the total time spent on adjusting the blocking band and the average time spent on adjusting the blocking band,the experimental group showed significantly better outcomes than the control group,with a statistical difference(P<0.05).The operators found that the Y-Z MHPBB was superior to the modified T-tube in terms of operational flexibility.CONCLUSION The Y-Z MHPBB seems to be an ingenious design,accurate blood flow occlusion effect,and good flexibility;and it can be used for hepatic portal blood flow occlusion during laparoscopic hepatectomy. 展开更多

Fuzzy Based Adaptive Deblocking Filters at Low-Bitrate HEVC Videos for Communication Networks

In-loop filtering significantly helps detect and remove blocking artifacts across block boundaries in low bitrate coded High Efficiency Video Coding(HEVC)frames and improves its subjective visual quality in multimedia services over communication networks.However,on faster processing of the complex videos at a low bitrate,some visible artifacts considerably degrade the picture quality.In this paper,we proposed a four-step fuzzy based adaptive deblocking filter selection technique.The proposed method removes the quantization noise,blocking artifacts and corner outliers efficiently for HEVC coded videos even at low bit-rate.We have considered Y(luma),U(chromablue),and V(chroma-red)components parallelly.Finally,we have developed a fuzzy system to detect blocking artifacts and use adaptive filters as per requirement in all four quadrants,namely up 45◦,down 45◦,up 135◦,and down 135◦across horizontal and vertical block boundaries.In this context,experimentation is done on a wide variety of videos.An objective and subjective analysis is carried out with MATLAB software and Human Visual System(HVS).The proposed method substantially outperforms existing postprocessing deblocking techniques in terms of YPSNR and BD_rate.In the proposed method,we achieved 0.32–0.97 dB values of YPSNR.Our method achieved a BD_rate of+1.69%for the luma component,−0.18%(U)and−1.99%(V)for chroma components,respectively,with respect to the stateof-the-art methods.The proposed method proves to have low computational complexity and has better parallel processing,hence suitable for a real-time system in the near future. 展开更多

In this paper, in an equivalent barotropic framework a new forced nonlinear Schroedinger equation is proposed to examine the interaction between the planetary-scale waves and the localized synoptic-scale eddies upstream. With the help of the Perturbed inverse scattering transform method. nonlinear parameter equations can be derived to describe the evolution of the dipole soliton amplitude, frequency. group velocity and phase under the forcing of localized synoptic-scale eddies. The numerical solutions of these equations predict that in the interaction between the weak dipole soliton (weak incipient dipole anomaly) and the synoptic-scale eddies. only when the high-frequency eddies themselves have a moderate parameter match they can near resonantly enhance a quasi-stationary large-amplitude split flow. The instantaneous total streamfunction field (the sum of background westerly wind. envelope Rossby soliton and synoptic-scale waves) is found to be very similar to the observed Berggren-type blocking on the weather map(Berggren et al. 1949). The role of synoptic-scale eddies is to increase the amplitude of large-scale dipole anomaly flow, and to decrease its group velocity, phase velocity and zonal wavenumber so that the dipole anomaly system can be amplified and transferred from dispersive system to very weak dispersive one. This may explain why and how the synoptic-scale eddies can reinforce and maintain vortex pair block. Furthermore. it is clearly found that during the prevalence of the vortex pair block the synoptic-scale eddies are split into two branches aroand the vortex pair block due to the feedback of amplfied dipole block. 展开更多

AIM:To investigate effects of perirenal space blocking(PSB)on gastrointestinal function in patients with severe acute pancreatitis(SAP).METHODS:Forty patients with SAP were randomly allocated to receive PSB or no PSB(NPSB).All the SAP patients received specialized medical therapy(SMT).Patients in the PSB group received PSB+SMT when hospitalized and after diagnosis,whereas patients in the NPSB group only received SMT.A modifed gastrointestinal failure(GIF)scoring system was used to assess the gastrointestinal function in SAP patients after admission.Pain severity(visual analog scale,0 to100)was monitored every 24 h for 72 h.RESULTS:Modified GIF score decreased in both groups during the 10-d study period.The median score decrease was initially significantly greater in the PSB group than in the NPSB group after PSB was per-formed.During the 72-h study period,pain intensity decreased in both groups.The median pain decrease was significantly greater in the PSB group than in the NPSB group at single time points.Patients in the PSB group had significantly lower incidences of hospital mortality,multiple organ dysfunction syndrome,systemic inflammatory response syndrome,and pancreatic infection,and stayed in the intensive care unit for a shorter duration.However,no difference in terms of operation incidence was found between the two groups.CONCLUSION:PSB could ameliorate gastrointestinal dysfunction or failure during the early stage of SAP.Moreover,PSB administration could improve prognosis and decrease the mortality of SAP patients. 展开更多

To avoid the detection and tracking by modern IR-guided missiles, the aircraft and helicopters also demand progress in its stealth techniques. Hence, study of Infra-Red Signature Suppression (IRSS) systems in aircraft and helicopters has become vital even in design stage. Optical blocking (masking) is one of the effective IRSS techniques used to block the Line- Of-Sight (LOS) of the hot engine parts of the exhaust geometry. This paper reviews the various patents on IR signature suppression systems based on the optical blocking method or a combination of IRSS techniques. The performance penalties generated due to installation of various IRSS methods in aircraft and helicopters are also discussed. 展开更多

The effects of the sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies in the tropical western Pacific on the atmospheric circulation anomalies over East Asia are simulated by the IAP-GCM with an observed and idealized distributions of the SST anomalies in the tropical western Pacific,respectively.Firstly,the atmospheric circulation anomalies during July and August,1980 are simulated by three anomalous experiments including the global SST anomaly experiment,the tropical SST anomaly experiment and the extratropical SST anomaly experiment,using the observed SST anomalies in 1980.It is shown that the SST anomalies in the tropical ocean greatly influence the formation and maintenance of the blocking high over the northeastern Asia,and may play a more important role than the SST anomalies in the extratropical ocean in the influence on the atmospheric circulation anomalies.Secondly,the effects of the SST anomalies in the tropical western Pacific on the atmospheric circulation anomalies over East Asia are also simulated 展开更多

Compared with the inverse double-tapered EBL, the laser with the double-tapered EBL shows a higher slope efficiency, which indicates that effective enhancement in the transportation of electrons and holes is achieved. Particularly, comparisons among the double-tapered EBL, the inverse double-tapered EBL, the singletapered EBL and the inverse single-tapered EBL show that the double-tapered EBL has the best performance in terms of current leakage. 展开更多

This paper deals with the research work on the blocking now in a network with the help of network flow theory. The blockage phenomena can be divided intO local blockage and network blockage. In this paper, which deals mainly with the latter, the fundamental concepts and definitions of network blocking flow, blocking outset are presented and the related theorems are proved. It is proved that the sufficient and necessary condition for the emergence of a blocking now in a network is the existence of the blocking outset. The necessary conditions for the existence of the blocking outset in a network are analysed and the characteristic cutset of blockage which reflects the all possible situation of blocking nows in the network is defined.In the last part of the paper the mathematical model of the minimum blocking now is developed and the solution to a small network is given. 展开更多

Starting in mid-November,China was hit by several cold events during the early winter of 2020/21.The lowest temperature observed at Beijing station on 7 January reached−19.6°C.In this paper,we show that the outbreak of the record-breaking extreme cold event can be attributed to a huge merging Ural blocking(UB)ridge over the Eurasian region.The sea-ice cover in the Kara and East Siberia Seas(KESS)in autumn was at its lowest value since 1979,which could have served as a precursor signal.Further analysis shows that several successive UB episodes occurred from 1 September 2020 to 10 January 2021.The persistent UB that occurred in late September/early October 2020 may have made an important contribution to the October historical minimum of sea ice in the KESS region.Our results also show that,after each UB episode in winter,significant upward propagation of wave activity occurred around 60°E,which resulted in weakening the stratospheric vortex.Meanwhile,each UB episode also caused a significant reduction in sea-ice extent in KESS and a significant weakening of the westerly jet in mid-high-latitude Eurasia.Results suggest that the Arctic vortex,which is supposed to enhance seasonally,became weaker and more unstable than the climatic mean under the seasonal cumulative effects of UB episodes,KESS warming,and long-lasting negative-phase North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO-).Those seasonal cumulative effects,combined with the impact of La Niña winter,led to the frequent occurrence of extreme cold events. 展开更多

Fences are one of the most effective measures to prevent and control wind-blown sand disasters,and the blocking effect of fences is largely determined by their porosity and height(H).This study employed wind tunnel experiments to measure wind velocities on both sides of wire mesh sand fences with porosities of 75%,63%,56%,36%and heights of 10,5 and 2 cm.The effects of porosity and height on the blocking effect of the fences were evaluated on the basis of velocity variability,flow field,and the wind velocity reduction coefficient.Results show that the smaller the porosity,the stronger the blocking effect.The fence with a porosity of 36%had the strongest windproof efficiency of 0.70 and longest protection range of 9 H,and thus showed the best applicability in preventing and controlling wind-blown sand disasters.The fence with a porosity of 56%showed a windproof efficiency of 0.31 and a protection range of 7 H,which could be considered for adoption.However,fences with porosities of 75%and 63%were not recommended to be adopted,because their windproof efficiency and protection range were very small.Overall,the higher the fence,the stronger the blocking effect.The highest fence(10 cm)had the longest protection range of 90 cm,which was the best in application.Nevertheless,the 5 and 2 cm fences were almost consistent with 10 cm fence in windproof efficiency,which was still suitable for wind and sand fixation. 展开更多

The sea-ice concentration in the Northern Hemisphere, 500 hPa height, sea-level pressure and 1000-500 hPa thickness of monthly mean data are examined for the period 1953-1989, with emphasis on the winter season.Relationships between large-scale patterns of atmospheric variability and sea-ice variability are investigated, making use of the correlation method. The analysis is conducted for the Atlantic sectors. In agreement with earlier studies based upon monthly mean data on sea-ice concentration, the strongest sea-ice pattern is composed of a dipole with opposing centers of action in the Davis Straits / Labrador Sea region and the Greenland and Barents Seas. Its temporal variability is strongly coupled to the atmospheric North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). The relationship between the two patterns is strongest with the atmosphere leading the ocean. The polarity of the NAO is associated with Greenland blocking episodes, during which the influence of the atmosphere is strong enough to temporarily halt the 展开更多

Precipitation over southeastern Lake Baikal features a significant decreasing trend in July and August over 1979–2018 and is closely related to blocking occurrence over central Siberia(45°–70°N,75°–115°E).This study investigates the formation and maintenance of anticyclonic and cyclonic wave-breaking(AWB and CWB)blocking events and their climate impacts on precipitation in the southeastern Lake Baikal area.Both AWB and CWB blocking events are characterized by a cold trough deepening from the sub-Arctic region and a ridge amplifying toward its north over central Siberia,as well as an evident Rossby wave train over midlatitude Eurasia.For AWB blocking events,the ridge and trough pair tilts clockwise and the wave train exhibits a zonal distribution.In contrast,ridge and trough pair associated with CWB blocking events leans anticlockwise with larger-scale,meridional,and more anisotropic signatures.Moreover,the incoming Rossby wave energy associated with CWB blocking events is more evident than for AWB blocking events.Therefore,CWB blocking events are more persistent.AWB blocking events produce more extensive and persistent precipitation over the southeastern Lake Baikal area than CWB blocking events,in which moderate above-normal rainfall is seen in the decaying periods of blockings.A significant decreasing trend is found in terms of AWB blocking occurrence over central Siberia,which may contribute to the downward trend of precipitation over southeastern Lake Baikal. 展开更多
