This study aimed to evaluate the effects of universal primers on the tensile bond strength between zirconia and resin composites.Zirconia specimens were divided into five groups based on the surface treatment with the following primers:MP(Monobond Plus),SU(ScotchBond Universal),AZ(AZ Primer),BM(Beauty bond Multi),and BL(Bondmer Lightless).After priming,stainless steel rods were bonded to the zirconia specimens with composite resin.The tensile bond strength test was performed:stored at room temperature for 1 day;stored in distilled water at 37°C for 7 days;and underwent thermal cycling.The BL group demonstrated a significantly higher tensile bond strength than other groups when stored at room temperature for 1 day(p<0.05).The primer that acted via chemical polymerization appeared to be most effective in improving the bond strength between the two materials in this study. 展开更多

Methodology The following self-adhesive resin cements for bonding two zirconia blocks were evaluated: Maxcem (MA), Smartcem (SM), Rely X Unicem Aplicap (UN), Breeze (BR), Biscem (BI), Set (SE), and Clearfil SA luting (CL). The specimens were grouped according to conditioning as follows: Group 1, polishing with 600 grit polishing paper; Group 2, silica coating with 110 μm Al2O3 particles which modified with silica; and, Group 3, tribochemical treatment - silica coating + silanization.Specimens were stored in distilled water at 37℃ for 24 hours before testing shear bond strength. Results Silica coating and tribochemical treatment significantly increased the bond strength of the MA, UN, BR, BI, SE and CL to zirconia compared to #600 polishing. For both #600 polished and silica coating treatments, MDP-containing self-adhesive resin cement CL had the highest bond strengths to zirconia. Conclusion Applying silica coating and tribochemical treatment improved the bond strength of self-adhesive resin cement to zirconia, especially for CL. 展开更多

Based on the Canadian Standards Association (CSA) criteria,105 pullout specimens were tested to investigate the effect of different rib geometries on bond strength of glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebars embedded in concrete. Two kinds of conventional reinforcing rebars were also studied for comparison. Each rebar was embedded in a 150 mm concrete cube,with the embedded length being four times the rebar diameter. The experimental parameters were the rebar type,rebar component,rebar diameter,rebar surface texture,rib height,rib spacing and rib width. Theoretical analysis was also carried out to explain the experimental phenomena and results. The experimental and theoretical results indicated that the bond strength of GFRP rebars was about 13%~35% lower than that of steel rebars. The bond strength and bond-slip behavior of the specially machined rebars varied with the rebar type,rebar diameter,rebar surface texture,rib height,rib spacing and rib width. Using the results,design recom-mendations were made concerning optimum rib geometries of GFRP ribbed rebars with superior bond-slip characteristics,which concluded that the optimal rib spacing of ribbed rebars is the same as the rebar diameter,and that the optimal rib height is 6% of the rebar diameter. 展开更多

In this study, we evaluate the influence of post surface pre-treatments on the bond strength of four different cements to glass fiber posts. Eighty extracted human maxillary central incisors and canines were endodontically treated and standardized post spaces were prepared. Four post pre-treatments were tested:(i) no pre-treatment(NS, control),(ii) sandblasting(SA),(iii) silanization(SI) and(iv) sandblasting followed by silanization(SS). Per pre-treatment, four dual-cure resin cements were used for luting posts: DMG LUXACORE Smartmix Dual, Multilink Automix, RelyX Unicem and Panavia F2.0. All the specimens were subjected to micro push-out test. Two-way analysis of variance and Tukey post hoc tests were performed(a50.05) to analyze the data. Bond strength was significantly affected by the type of resin cement, and bond strengths of RelyX Unicem and Panavia F2.0 to the fiber posts were significantly higher than the other cement groups. Sandblasting significantly increased the bond strength of DMG group to the fiber posts. 展开更多

The effect of steel corrosion on the behavior of bond between steel and the surrounding concrete was investigated. Pullout tests were carried out to demonstrate bond stress-slip response for reinforcing steel bars of a series of corrosion level. Specimens either confined or unconfined were investigated for evaluation of the effect of confinement on bond strength and failure mode. Also, the tests were analyzed using nonlinear finite element analysis. It was shown that for both confined and unconfined steel bars, bond strength generally decreases as the corrosion level increases when corrosion level is relatively high. Confinement was demonstrated to provide excellent means to conteract bond loss for corroded reinforcing steel bars. It was shown that unconfined specimens generally split at a small slip with a large crack width and result in splitting failure while confined specimens contribute to a small crack width and generally cause a pullout failure. The analysis results agree reasonably well with the experiments. 展开更多

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long time antibacterial properties and shear bond strength of experimental nano silver-containing cements (NSC). Nano silver base inorganic antibacterial powder was added to the reinforced glass ionomer cement at five different weight ratios to obtain a series of nano silver-containing cements, then the antibacterial properties of three orthodontic cement products and five NSC samples were evaluated by the direct contact test (DCT) and the agar diffusion test (ADT). The DCT, which was based on turbidness determination of bacterial growth in 96-well microtiter plates, was performed in both fresh and aged for 1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks, 6 weeks, and 8 weeks tested materials. The shear bond strengthes of three orthodontic cement products and five NSC samples were examined using a universal testing machine. The ADT results indicated that there were no significant differences between NSCs and ORTHO LC fresh specimens. In the DCT experiment, all fresh silver nanoparticles-containing tested samples presented powerful antibacterial properties, but they gradually lost the effective antimicrobial agents with the extension of aging time. Finally, none of the tested materials maintained its antibacterial property after aging for 8 weeks. A gradually decreasing trend of bond strength presented with the increasing incorporation of nano silver base inorganic antibacterial powder into the glass ionomer cement, even though all the tested material specimens reached the ideal bond strength range. We may conclude that NSCs can contribute to decrease the demineralization rate around brackets without compromising bond strength. 展开更多

Based on the Canadian Standards Association(CSA) criterion,experiments on 30 pull-out specimens were conducted to study the bond strength of deformed GFRP rebars with 8 different surface configurations.Each rebar was embedded in a 150 mm concrete cube,and the test embedded length was four times of the rebar diameter.Relationship between the mode of failure,the average bond strength and the average bond strength-slip for each rebar was analyzed.Results show that the failure mode of all specimens is the shearing off or desquamation of ribs,no splitting cracks appear on the cube specimens.The bond stress of deformed GFRP rebars mainly depends on the mechanical interaction between the ribs of the bar and the surrounding concrete,and the bond strength of deformed GFRP rebars is improved obviously.The optimal rib spacing is less than 2.5 times of the rebar diameter,and the rib height is more than 3% of the rebar diameter. 展开更多

Internal bond(IB) strength is one of the most important mechanical properties that indicate particleboard quality.The aim of this study was to find a simple regression model that considers the most important parameters that can influence on IB strength.In this study, IB strength was predicted by three kinds of equations(linear, quadratic, and exponential) that were based on the percentage of adhesive(8%, 9.5%,and 11%), particle size(+5,-5 +8,-8 12, and-12 mesh), and density(0.65, 0.7, and 0.75 g/cm3).Our analysis of the results(using SHAZAM9 software) showed that the exponential function best fitted the experimental data and predicted the IB strength with 18% error.In order decrease the error percentage, the Buckingham Pi theorem was used to build regression models for predicting IB strength based on particle size,density, percentage of adhesive, face-screw withdrawal resistance(SWRf), and edge-screw withdrawal resistance(SWRe).From there,three dimensionless groups were created by Buckingham's Pi theorem and IB strength was predicted based on multiple regression models.The results showed these models can predict IB strength with 10.68% and18.17% error, based on face-screw withdrawal resistance and edge-screw withdrawal resistance, respectively. 展开更多

Fe-Ni-Cr alloy powders with and without 0.4% CeO2 were flame sprayed on the surface of 1045 carbon steel substrate. The effect of rare earth oxide CeO2 on the interface layer and microstructure was investigated by X-ray diffraction analysis, SEM and EDS. Based on our previous work, comparison on the microstructure of a Fe-Ni-Cr alloy with and without 0.4% CeO2 addition was made. The correlation between the microstructure and bond strength was studied. The addition of CeO2 in Fe-Ni-Cr alloy shows promise results for providing good bonding strength as well as tribological properties. The results show that the hardness of the coatings can be improved by addition of 0.4% CeO2, and the shape of powders is more spheroidal. The combination of three aspects, namely small, well-distributed microstructure, the well-distributed matrix and promotion of diffusion leads to the improvement in bond strength of Fe-Ni-Cr alloy with addition of 0.4% CeO2. 展开更多

We sought to evaluate immediate and delayed micro-tensile bond strength of Panavia F2.0 and Multilink Sprint resin cement to superficial, deep and cervical dentin. Thirty-six freshly extracted non-carious human molars were sectioned in the mesiodistal direction to expose three different dentin regions including superficial dentin (1 mm below the dentine-enamel junction), deep dentin (1 mm above the highest pulp horn) and cervical dentin (0.5 mm above the cemento-enamel junction and 0.5 mm below the dentine-enamel junction). Resin cements were applied on dentin surfaces and composite blocks were luted under constant seating pressure. Each group was divided into three subgroups according to time intervals. Specimens were sectioned to obtain sticks of 1 mm 2 in diameter and subjected to microtensile bond strength testing at a cross head speed of 1 mm/min. Both resin cements showed higher micro-tensile bond strength to superficial dentin than that to deep or cervical dentin (P < 0.001). Micro-tensile bond strengths of Panavia F2.0 were higher than those of Multilink Sprint at different dentin regions (P < 0.001). Immediate micro-tensile bond strengths were higher than those of delayed micro-tensile bond strengths for both resin cements (P < 0.001). It was concluded that resin cements with different chemical formulations and applica-tions yield significantly different micro-tensile bond strengths to different dentin regions. 展开更多

Since the floating structure is constructed in aquatic environment, corrosion of the reinforcing steel is likely to develop more prematurely than in onshore structure in case of concrete cracking. A solution to this corrosion problem could use FRP rebar instead of steel reinforcement. To that goal, an experimental study is conducted on the concrete-FRP bond strength to verify if such FRP rebar develops performance comparable to the conventional steel rebar. A series of tests are performed considering the bond length of ordinary steel rebar and G-FRP rebar as test variable with respect to the strength of concrete, and the results are presented. 展开更多

Isotropic shear bond strength behavior of superficial bovine dentin: A pilot study 被引量:1

Bonding was performed to the incisal, middle and cervical thirds of superficial bovine coronal dentin (n = 20) with a two-step etch-and-rinse adhesive (Optibond Solo Plus) and resin composite (Z100). Shear bond strength was evaluated at 24 h and failure modes of representative specimens wereobserved with FE-SEM. Non-parametric Kruskal-Wallis test with a significance level of 0.05 was used for data analysis. Mean shear bond strength values for the incisal, middle, and cervical thirds were 36.9 (3.1), 42.6 (2.6), and 37.1 (2.1) respectively with no significant differences evidenced between the crown thirds (p = 0.19). Observation of the failure mode of representative specimens demonstrated that specimens with high bond strength values exhibited predominantly mixed-type failures whereas low strength specimens exhibited adhesive failures between the dentin and adhesive. The absence of significant differences in shear bond strength between crown thirds indicate that, regardless of tubule orientation, any crown region can be used when superficial bovine incisor dentin is used for shear bond strength testing. 展开更多

Forty permanent third molars were selected and carious lesions were induced by the microbiological method with?S. mutans?ATCC25175. Teeth were allocated randomly across four experimental designs (n?=?10): PA-I: phosphoric acid etching and application of the adhesive system, followed by immediate microtensile bond strength testing;PA-CC: phosphoric acid etching and application of the adhesive system, followed by microtensile bond strength testing after a 14-day cariogenic challenge;NPA-I: application of the adhesive system without acid etching, followed by immediate bond strength testing and NPA-CC: application of the adhesive system without acid etching followed by bond strength testing after 14-day cariogenic challenge. For microtensile bond strength testing,?a restoration with Charisma composite resin was made and each specimen was sectioned with a cross-sectional area of 1 mm2. Only adhesive and mixed fractures were considered for bond strength calculation. Results were evaluated by the Kruskal-Wallis and Friedman tests. The highest bond strengths were observed in the phosphoric acid etching groups (p??0.05). Cariogenic challenge did not affect bond strength (p?>?0.05). The predominant fracture type was adhesive. We conclude that phosphoric acid increased the bond strength of the Single Bond Universal system to caries-affected dentin, and that cariogenic challenge did not interfere with this bond strength. 展开更多

A novel test method of measuring the interface bond strength between a thermal sprayed coating and substrate is put forward first in this paper. The test method is simple and reliable, and exists no any inherent shortcoming and controversy. The interface bond strength obtained by the test method is completely the inherent property of the interface and depends only on coating material properties, spray conditions, and technique of depositing the coating. By extensive tests, it is shown that the test tesults are very tepeatable and reliable. Furthermore, from this test, the critical coating thickness under which the coating spall can not emerge is also obtained. 展开更多

Objective:To evaluate the shear bond strength(SBS) between alumina-toughened zirconia (ATZ) cores and veneering ceramics,investigate the effect of aging in artificial saliva on SBS and compare it with that of yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystals(Y-TZP).Methods:Bars of ATZ and Y-TZP were layered with veneering ceramics in accordance to the recommendation of the manufacturer.Half of each group(n = 10) was aged at 134℃.(under 2 bar pressure) in an autoclave for 48 h.Subsequently,all specimens were subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine.The interface and fractured surface of the specimens were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy.Results:The initial mean SBS values in MPa±SD were 28.9±8.0 for ATZ and 26.2±7.6 for Y-TZP.After aging,the mean SBS values for ATZ and Y-TZP were 22.9±4.9 MPa and 22.8±6.9 MPa,respectively.Neither the differences between the SBS values of the ATZ and Y-TZP groups nor the influence of aging on all groups were statistically significant.Conclusions:The SBS between the ATZ core and the veneering ceramics was not affected by aging.The SBS of ATZ to veneering ceramics was not significantly different compared with that of Y-TZP. 展开更多

The effects of surface conditioning methods on the microtensile bond strength of Y-TZP ceramic were studied based on airborne particle abrasion and resin cements.Eight square-shaped(φ12 mm×5 mm high) Y-TZP ceramic were studied blocks(LAVATM,3M ESPE,USA) and flat occlusal dentin blocks were fabricated,pre-treated(airborne abrasion with 125μm Al2O3 particles,tribochemical silica coating with 110 μm Al2O3 particles modified by silica oxide),and bonded to each other using resin cements(Panavia F 2.0,RelyX Unicem).Thereafter the trilayer specimens were cut into microbar specimens with a bonding area of approximately 1.0±0.1 mm2 and then microtensile bond strength tests were performed.The Y-TZP ceramic following airborne particle abrasion with 125μm Al2O3 and silicoating,the surface roughness of Y-TZP and its surface silica content were confirmed to increase.Overall,the Y-TZP ceramic surface treatment with a tribochemical silica coating showed the highest microtensile bond strength of the phosphate monomer-based resin cement to Y-TZP ceramic(mean MPa=18.11±0.27(Panavia F 2.0),17.45±0.39(Rely X Unicem).In cases in which a silica coating was applied,there was no significant difference in the bonding strength depending on resin cements(P>0.05). 展开更多

The bond strength of the Sn based ternary active solders,Sn-5Ti with various contents of Ag,Cu,In,Ni or AI on sialon ceramic was investigated by the ceramic/ceramic joint joining.The bond strengthof Sn-STi (about 80 MPa) may increase to 90-100 MPa by small addition of Ag or Cu (about5-10%).A little Ni (about 1-3%) in the solder is slightly beneficial,but too more Ni (more than 5%)is harmful.Small addition of In is trivial,but too more In is detrimental.On the other hand,small addi-tion of AI in the active solder decreases greatly the bond strength of the solder,therefore it is veryharmful.In discussion,three suggestions for selection of the third element to increase the bondstrength of the soft solders on ceramic,i.e.with a high surface energy,benefiting to wetting on ce-ramic and strengthening the soft solder itself,have been made. 展开更多

Push-out Bond Strength of Self-adhesive Methacrylate Resin-based Sealers to Root Dentin

This study examined the adhesive strength of two self-adhesive methacrylate resin-based sealers(MetaSEAL and RealSeal SE)to root dentin and compared them with RealSeal and AH Plus in properties.A total of 48 extracted human single-rooted teeth were used to prepare the 0.9-mm thick longitudinal tooth slice(each per tooth).Standardized simulated canal spaces of uniform dimensions were prepared in the middle of radicular dentin.After treated with 5.25%sodium hypochlorite(NaOCl)and 17%EDTA,tooth slices were allocated randomly to four groups(n=12)in terms of different sealers used:MetaSEAL,RealSeal SE,RealSeal,and AH plus groups.The simulated canal spaces were obturated with different sealers in each group.There were 10 slabs with 20 simulated canal spaces(n=20)used in each group for push-out testing.The failure modes and the ultrastructures of fractured sealer-dentin interfaces were examined.The remaining 2 slabs in each group underwent partial demineralization for observation of the ultrastructure of resin tags.The results showed that the push-out bond strength was 12.01±4.66 MPa in MetaSEAL group,significantly higher than that in the other three groups(P<0.05).Moreover,no statistically significant differences were noted in the push-out bond strength between RealSeal SE(5.43±3.68 MPa)and AH Plus(7.34±2.83 MPa)groups and between RealSeal SE and RealSeal(2.93±1.76 MPa)groups(P>0.05).Mixed failures were predominant in the fractured sealer-dentin interfaces in MetaSEAL and AH Plus groups,while adhesive failures were frequently seen in RealSeal SE and RealSeal groups.In conclusion,after complete removal of the smear layer,MetaSEAL showed superior bond ability to root dentin.The RealSeal SE is applicable in clinical practice,with its adhesive strength similar to that of AH Plus.The self-adhesive methacrylate resin-based sealer holds promise for use in endodontic treatment. 展开更多
