This critical review establishes the link among induced curing pressure(i.e., external loading condition), multiphysics processes(i.e., internal governing mechanism), and interface behavior(i.e., material behavior) for FRCC materials through analysis of the state-of-the-art research findings on the FM-ITZ of FRCC materials. The following results are obtained. For the mechanical process, the induced curing pressure changes the stress state and enhances multicracking behavior, which can strengthen the FM-ITZ. For the hydraulic process, the strengthened seepage of the FM-ITZ under induced curing pressure weakens the effective stress and exaggerates the deficiency in water retention capacity between the bulk matrix and the FMITZ. For the thermal process, the induced curing pressure causes a steep temperature gradient in the FM-ITZ and thus influences the temperature evolution and thermally-induced microcracks in the FM-ITZ. For the chemical process, the induced curing pressure enhances hydration kinetics and results in the formation of additional hydration products in the FM-ITZ. Moreover, recommendations are proposed on the basis of findings from this review to facilitate the implementation of fiber reinforcement in cemented paste backfill technology.展开更多

WPCs were prepared from wood fiber up to 60 wt.% and modified PP/PE was blended by extrusion. The rheological properties were studied by using dynamic measurement. According to the strain sweep test, the linear viscoelastic region of composites in the melt was determined. The result showed that the storage modulus was independent of the strain at low strain region (〈0.1%). The frequency sweep resuits indicated that all composites exhibited shear thinning behavior, and both the storage modulus and complex viscosity of MAH modified composites were decreased comparing to those unmodified. Flexural properties and impact strength of the prepared WPCs were measured according to the relevant standard specifications. The flexural and impact strength of the manufactured composites significantly increased and reached a maximum when MAH dosage was 1.0 wt%, whereas the flexural modulus after an initial decreased, also increased with MAH dosage. The increase in mechanical properties indicated that the presence of anhydride groups enhanced the interracial adhesion between wood fiber and PP/PE blends.展开更多

Among different classifications, polymeric composites are mainly focused on their use as structural components and the selection and composition of reinforcement play a vital role in determining the characteristics of the composite. Although composites are developed with man-made reinforcement in the beginning stage, in the present situation, natural reinforcements have proved excellent results in terms of properties. Hence, nowadays researches are mainly focused on the use of different natural fibers in different forms as reinforcements in polymeric composite. This work presents a brief overview on the properties of natural fiber and natural fiber reinforced composites which is an emerging area in polymer science. Interests in natural fiber is reasonable due to the advantages of these materials compared to others, such as synthetic fiber composites, including low environmental impact and low cost and support their potential to be used. Moreover, the disadvantage of the synthetic and fiber-glass as reinforcement, the use of natural fiber reinforced composite gained the attention of the young scientists, researchers, and engineers and are being exploited as a replacement for the conventional fiber such as glass, aramid, carbon etc. Natural fibers have been proven alternative to synthetic fiber in transportation such as automobiles, railway coaches and aerospace, military, building, packaging, consumer products and construction industries for ceiling paneling, partition boards etc. However, in development of these composites, some drawbacks have also emerged. In this paper, it has been tried to overview all of this together.展开更多

文摘In this paper,a split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)was used to investigate the dynamic impact mechanical behavior of sisal fiber-reinforced cement-based composites(SFRCCs),and the microscopic damage evolution of the composites was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrome-try(EDS).The results show that the addition of sisal fibers improves the impact resistance of cement-based composite materials.Compared with ordinary cement-based composites(OCCs),the SFRCCs demonstrate higher post-peak strength, ductility, and energy absorption capacity with higher fiber content. Moreover, the SFRCCs are strain rate sensitive materials, and their peak stress, ultimate strain, and energy integrals all increase with increasing strain rate. From the perspective of fracture failure characteristics, the failure of OCCs is dominated by the brittle failure of crystal cleavage. In contrast, the failure mode of the SFRCCs changes to microscale matrix cracks,multi-scale pull-out interface debonding of fibers(fine filaments and bundles),and mechanical interlock. This research provides an experimental basis for the engineering application of high-performance and green cement-based composites.

文摘The residual resources of ramie fiber-based textile products were used as raw materials.Ramie fiber felt(RF)was modified by NaClO_(2) aqueous solution and then impregnated with water-based epoxy resin(WER).RF/WER transparent composite materials were prepared by lamination hot pressing process. The composite materials’color difference, transmittance, haze, density, water absorption, and mechanical properties were determined to assess the effects of NaClO_(2) treatment and the number of ramie fiber layers on the properties of the prepared composites. The results showed significantly improved optical and mechanical properties of the RF/WER transparent composites after NaClO_(2) treatment. With the increase of ramie fiber layers, the composites’whiteness, transmittance, and water absorption decreased while the haze increased. For material with three layers, the optical transmittance in the visible light region was 82%,and the haze was 96%,indicating the material has both high transmittance and high haze characteristics. The tensile strength increases with the increase of the number of layers, and the tensile strength of the composite with six layers is 243 MPa.This study broadens the scope of application of ramie fiber as a new option for home decoration materials.
文摘The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the concentration of silane coupling solution on the tensile strength of basalt fiber and the interfacial properties of basalt fiber reinforced polymer composites. The surface treatment of basalt fibers was carried out using an aqueous alcohol solution method.Basalt fibers were subjected to surface treatment with 3-Methacryloxypropyl trimethoxy silane at 0.5 wt.%,1 wt.%,2 wt.%,4 wt.%and 10 wt.%.The basalt monofilament tensile tests were carried out to investigate the variation in strength with the concentration of the silane coupling agent. The microdroplet test was performed to examine the effect of the concentration of the silane coupling agent on interfacial strength of basalt reinforced polymer composites. The film was formed on the surface of the basalt fiber treated silane coupling agent solution. The tensile strength of basalt fiber increased because the damaged fiber surface was repaired by the firm of silane coupling agent. The firm was effective in not only the surface protection of basalt fiber but also the improvement on the interfacial strength of fiber-matrix interface. However, the surface treatment using the high concentration silane coupling agent solution has an adverse effect on the mechanical properties of the composite materials, because of causing the degradation of the interfacial strength of the composite materials.
文摘Modern technology for developing new items made from renewable resources is becoming more and more popular as a result of rising environmental concern.Recently, contemporary polymer composites have included the hybridization of natural fibers with synthetic ones, along with the inclusion of a variety of biowaste filler for developing sustainable goods. In this work, the kenaf/glass hybrid polyester composites are strengthened by the addition of fish scale(FS),which is taken from the fishs outermost layer of skin.Five different stacked-order laminates, such as KKKK,KGKG,GKKG,KGGK,and GGGG,are fabricated by using the hand lay-up method with four different weight concentrations of filler content:0%,5%,10%,and 15%.Mechanical possessions such as tensile, flexural, impact strength and micro-hardness have been evaluated through experimentation in accordance with ASTM standards. The experimental findings revealed that, the tensile strength and micro-hardness value of KGKG laminates with 15wt% of FS filler are found to be maximum of 118.72 MPa and 17.82 HV respectively which are 39.67%and 26.11%greater than that of KGKG laminates without FS filler. However, the flexural and impact strength of same laminates with 10 wt% FS filler exhibited a maximum value of 142.77 MPa and 62.08 kJ/m^(2).In order to corroborate its applicability for structural and building materials in open environment, the dimensional stability of the composite has been studied through moisture absorption test. The influences of FS filler loading on dimensional stability and resistance to moisture absorption capacity of laminates are also investigated. The experimental results reflected that the addition of FS-filler has significantly improved the dimensional stability of the laminates in moist environment by reducing the moisture absorption tendency. To further support the mode of failures,a fractography investigation of fractured surfaces was conducted.
文摘From the environmental consideration,it would be very interesting to use natural fibers such as banana, jute or coir as reinforcement materials instead of artificial fibers or any kind of synthetic materials.Natural fibers have many advantages over synthetic ones.Polypropylene banana fiber composites(PPBC)are prepared using untreated and alkali-treated banana fibers at 10-25%by weight of the fiber loading. The thermal properties of polypropylene natural fiber composites are very important for technological uses.Thermogravimetric measurements show that the incorporation of banana fiber into PP enhances the thermal stability of composites containing treated fibers,in comparison with untreated fibers.A composite of biodegradable polypropylene(PP)reinforced with short banana natural fibers was prepared by melt blending followed by a hot press molding system. The thermal properties of matrix materials were studied using thermogravimetric analyzers TGA units. It is observed that the introduction of short banana fibers slightly improved the thermo oxidative stability of PP-banana composites.Physical and chemical changes occurred through dehydration, phase transition, molecular orientation, crystallinity disruption, oxidation and decomposition, and incorporation of several functional groups.Systematic investigations of the thermal behavior of polymers in gas, vacuum or inert atmosphere give the knowledge of how change takes place in polymers. To understand such changes thermogravimetric analysis(TGA)and thermal analysis(TG)were performed. It is observed reinforcement of short banana fiber leads to little improvement in the thermooxidative stability of PPBC.Due to the enhancement of thermo-mechanical properties, such composites may be used as building materials namely roof materials, selling materials and many other engineering applications.
文摘For evaluation of the rheological and mechanical properties of highly filled wood plastic composites (WPCs), polypropylene/polyethylene (PP/PE) blends were grafted with maleic anhydride (MAH) to enhance the interfacial adhesion between wood fiber and matrix. The increase in mechanical properties indicated that the presence of anhydride groups enhanced the interracial adhesion between wood fiber and PP/PE blends.
文摘The use of composites in different sectors has become inevitable due to the enhancement in properties, reduction in the manufacturing cost and suitability to several applications. In this paper, it has been tried to overview all of this together.

文摘FeCrAl fiber-reinforced hydroxyapatite(HA) biocomposites(FeCrAl(f)/HA) were fabricated by the hot pressing technique. The metallographic microscopy,X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS) were used to observe and analyze the microstructure and composition of FeCrAl(f)/HA composites, respectively. The mechanical properties of FeCrAl(f)/HA composites were measured by the three-point-bending test. The results show that the composite can be reinforced by FeCrAl fiber and enhanced gradually, and then declined with the increase of the content of FeCrAl fiber(0-11%,volume fraction) in the whole range of experiments. Both the HA matrix and FeCrAl fiber integrate very tightly and bit into each other very deeply and counter-diffusion takes place to some extent at two-phase interface. The optimum parameters of FeCrAl(f)/HA composite are diameter of 22 μm,length of 1-2 mm and of volume faction of about 7% for FeCrAl fibers.

文摘Ceramic matrix composites(CMCs)are highly promising materials for the next generation of aero-engines.However,machining of CMCs suffers from low efficiency and poor surfacefinish, which presents an obstacle to their wider application. To overcome these problems, this study investigates high-efficiency deep grinding of CMCs,focusing on the effects of grinding depth. The results show that both the sur-face roughness and the depth of subsurface damage(SSD)are insensitive to grinding depth. The material removal rate can be increased sixfold by increasing the grinding depth, while the surface roughness and SSD depth increase by only about 10%.Moreover,it is found that the behavior of material removal is strongly dependent on grinding depth. As the grinding depth is increased, fibers are removed in smaller sizes, with thefiber length in chips being reduced by about 34%.However,too large a grinding depth will result in blockage by chip powder, which leads to a dramatic increase in the ratio of tangential to normal grinding forces. This study demonstrates that increasing the depth of cut is an effective approach to improve the machining efficiency of CMCs,while maintaining a good surfacefin-ish.It provides the basis for the further development of high-performance grinding methods for CMCs,which should facilitate their wider application.

文摘The two-parameter Weibull model is used to describe the fiber strength distribution. The stress carried by the intact and fracture fibers on the matrix crack plane during unloading/reloading is determined based on the global load sharing criterion. The axial stress distribution of intact fibers upon unloading and reloading is determined based on the mechanisms of fiber sliding relative to matrix in the interface debonded region. The interface debonded length, unloading interface counter slip length, and reloading interface new slip length are obtained by the fracture mechanics approach. The hysteresis loops corresponding to different stresses considering fiber failure are compared with the cases without considering fiber failure. The effects of fiber characteristic strength and fiber Weibull modulus on the fiber failure, the shape, and the area of the hysteresis loops are analyzed. The predicted quasi-static unloading/reloading hysteresis loops agree well with experimental data.

文摘Natural fiber reinforced polymer composites(NFRCs)have demonstrated great potential for many different applications in various industries due to their advantages compared to synthetic fiber-reinforced composites, such as low environmental impact and low cost. However, one of the drawbacks is that the NFRCs present relatively low mechanical properties and the absorption of humidity due to the hydrophilic characteristic of the natural fibre. One method to increase their performance is hybridization. Therefore, understanding the properties and potential of using multiple reinforcement’s materials to develop hybrid composites is of great interest. This paper provides an overview of the recent advances in hybrid natural fiber reinforced polymer composites.First, the main factors that affect the performance of hybrid fiber-reinforced composites were briefly discussed. The effect of hybridization on the mechanical and thermal properties of hybrid composites reinforced with several types of natural fibers(i.e.,sisal,jute,curauá,ramie,banana,etc.)or natural fibers combined with synthetic fibers is pre-sented.Finally,the water absorption behaviour of hybrid fiber-reinforced composites is also discussed. It was con-cluded that the main challenges that need to be addressed in order to increase the use of natural-natural or natural-synthetic hybrid composites in industry are the poor adhesion between natural fibers and matrix, thermal stability and moisture absorption of natural fibers. Some of these challenges were addressed by recent develop-ment in fibers treatment and modification, and product innovation(hybridization).
文摘D braiding technology has stimulated a great deal of interest in the world at large and been widely used in aerospace, military, civil construction and medical fields. Although 3 D braided composites have many good features, their features are very complicated. Optic fiber sensors can be multi braided into 3 D braided composites to fulfill a new kind of 3 D smart composites to monitor RTM process, study mechanical behaviors and damage states after molding, and monitor its own condition during service life. Since optic performances of optic fibers have direct and important relation to the performances of optic fiber sensors, experimental research is done to devise a method to incorporate the optic fiber into a 3 D structure. The optical performances of the braided optic fibers are tested and compared with the original one to study the optic performances of optic fibers, before their being braided into composites and after the RTM process.

文摘The woven basalt fiber composites(WBFC) and the unidirectional [0°/90°/45°/-45°]s basalt fiber composites(UBFC) were prepared by hot-pressing.Three-point bending test, low velocity impact test, and ballistic test were performed to the prepared composites. After the tests, the specimens were recovered and analyzed for micromorphology.Three-point bending tests show that both the bending strength and stiffness of the WBFC surpass those of the UBFC.Low velocity impact test results show that the low velocity impact resistance to hemispherical impactor of the UBFC is higher than that of the WBFC,but the low velocity impact resistance to sharp impactor of the UBFC is lower than that of the WBFC.For the ballistic test,it can be found that the ballistic property of the UBFC is higher than that of the WBFC. After the tests, microscopic analysis of the specimens was applied, and their failure mechanism was discussed. The main failure modes of the UBFC are delamination and fibers breakage under the above loading conditions while the main failure mode of the WBFC is fibers breakage.Although delamination damage can be found in the WBFC under the above loading conditions, the degree of delamination is far less than that of the UBFC.
