This study explores the plastic deformation mechanisms of γ-phase U–Mo alloys using molecular dynamics(MD) simulations. In the slip model, the generalized stacking fault energy(GSFE) and the modified Peierls–Nabarro(P–N) model are used to determine the competitive relationships among different slip systems. In the twinning model, the generalized plane fault energy(GPFE) is assessed to evaluate the competition between slip and twinning. The findings reveal that among the three slip systems, the {110}<111>slip system is preferentially activated, while in the {112}<111> system, twinning is favored over slip, as confirmed by MD tensile simulations conducted in various directions. Additionally, the impact of Mo content on deformation behavior is emphasized. Insights are provided for optimizing process conditions to avoid γ → α′′ transitions, thereby maintaining a higher proportion of γ-phase U–Mo alloys for practical applications.展开更多

文摘Chinese coal reservoirs are characterized by low pressure and low permeability, which need to be enhanced so as to increase production. However, conventional methods for permeability enhancement can only increase the permeability in fractures, but not the ultra-low permeability in coal matrices.Attempts to enhance such impermeable structures lead to rapid attenuation of gas production, especially in the late stage of gas extraction.Thermal stimulation by injecting high-temperature steam is a promising method to increase gas production. The critical scientific challenges that still hinder its widespread application are related to the evolution law of permeability of high-temperature steam in coal and the thermal deformation of coal.In this study,an experimental approach is developed to explore the high-temperature steam seepage coupled with the thermal deformation in coal under triaxial stress. The tests were conducted using cylindrical coal specimens of?50 mm×100 mm.The permeability and thermal strain in coal were investigated when high-temperature steam was injected at151.11,183.20,213.65,and 239.76°C.The experimental results reveal for the first time that as the amount of injected fluid increases, the steam permeability shows periodic pulsation changes. This paper introduces and explains the main traits of this discovery that may shed more light on the seepage phenomenon. When the injected steam temperature increases, the amplitude of pulsating permeability decreases, whereas the frequency increases;meanwhile, the period becomes shorter, the pulsation peak appears earlier, and the stabilization time becomes longer. The average peak permeability shows a“U-shaped”trend,decreasing first and then increasing as the steam temperature increases.Meanwhile, with the extension of steam injection time, the axial, radial, and volumetric strains of coal show a stage-wise expansion characteristic at different temperatures of steam injection, except for the radial strains at 151.11°C.A two-phase flow theory of gas–liquid is adopted to elucidate the mechanism of pulsating seepage of steam. Moreover, the influencing mechanism of inward and outward thermal expansion on the permeability of coal is interpreted. The results presented in this paper provide new insight into the feasibility of thermal gas recovery by steam injection.

文摘Sudden temperature drops cause soils in natural environments to freeze unidirectionally, resulting in soil expansion and deformation that can lead to damage to engineering structures. The impact of temperature-induced freezing on deformation and solute migration in saline soils, especially under extended freezing,is not well understood due to the lack of knowledge regarding the microscopic mechanisms involved. This study investigated the expansion, deformation, and water-salt migration in chlorinated saline soils, materials commonly used for canal foundations in cold and arid regions, under different roof temperatures and soil compaction levels through unidirectional freezing experiments. The microscopic structures of saline soils were observed using scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and optical microscopy.A quantitative analysis of the microstructural data was conducted before and after freezing to elucidate the microscopic mechanisms of water-salt migration and deformation. The results indicate that soil swelling is enhanced by elevated roof temperatures approaching the soil's freezing point and soil compaction, which prolongs the duration and accelerates the rate of water-salt migration. The unidirectional freezing altered the microstructure of saline soils due to the continuous temperature gradients, leading to four distinct zones:natural frozen zone, peak frozen zone, gradual frozen zone, and unfrozen zone, each exhibiting significant changes in pore types and fractal dimensions.Vacuum suction at the colder end of the soil structure facilitates the upward migration of salt and water, which subsequently undergoes crystallization. This process expands the internal pore structure and causes swelling. The findings provide a theoretical basis for understanding the evolution of soil microstructure in cold and arid regions and for the management of saline soil engineering.

文摘River embankments are designed to defend against floods over coastal and riparian areas. It is important to early detect unexpected damages on embankments before they exacerbate. To continuously monitor the stability of the embankments and efficiently recognize such potential damages, this study takes SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar)derived deformation as an indicator of the embankment instability, and customizes a multi-temporal InSAR(Interferometric SAR)approach-small baseline subset.Specifically, during InSAR processing,we apply a two-step amplitude difference dispersion threshold method to extract InSAR measurement points, thus improving the point density within the embankment. We applied this method to the Kangshan Embankment(KE)using 147 Sentinel-1 acquired between 2017 and 2021.We categorized KE into Waterside Slope(WS),Embankment Top(ET),and Landside Slope(LS)using InSAR height estimation.Given the dominance of downslope movement,we developed a projection matrix from InSAR-derived deformation in the satellite line-of-sight direction onto WS and LS.The study shows that KE was generally stable during the five-year period, while WS,ET,and LS experienced different deformation processes. For instance, seasonal variation was observed from the deformation time series, especially between every April and November. We applied the principal component analysis to the time-series displacement and analyzed the results in conjunction with the rainfall data of Kangshan Township. It showed that deformation due to rainfall equals 80.93%,81.30%,and 82.46%of the total deformation for WS,ET,and LS,respectively, indicating that rainfall is one of the environmental driving factors affecting the deformations. We conclude that the proposed methodology is suited for systematic embankment monitoring and identifies major driving forces.

文摘Block-flexure toppling constitutes the predominant form of toppling failure in rock slopes.Although it has been extensively studied, the current theoretical models are often oversimplified by treating rock layers as rigid bodies that diverge from actual conditions. The proposed Equivalent Deformation Compatibility Method(EDCM)offers a fresh approach to assess the stability of rock slopes prone to block-flexure toppling.EDCM posits that blocky rock layers, with their inability to withstand significant bending and role in merely transferring forces, can be modeled as intact layers with a reduced modulus. The method simplifies the complex issue of analyzing discrete and continuous rock layers to the study of layered soft and hard rock, establishing deformation compatibility equations subsequently.Validation of the EDCM was achieved through numerical models, physical model testing, and application to an actual slope. The factor of safety(FS)for slopes corresponds with the results from both models and the actual slope, demonstrating the method's applicability for evaluating susceptibility to block-flexure toppling. When applying the EDCM,it is advised to set the elastic modulus reduction coefficient for blocky layers at a value below 0.1.

文摘Four powder metallurgy(PM)Ni-based superalloys with different Hf and Ta contents were creep-tested at 650℃ and 970 MPa,700℃ and 770 MPa,and 750℃ and 580 MPa,respectively. The effect of Hf and Ta on creep deformation behaviors of the superalloys was studied from multiple scales by SEM,electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD),and aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscope(AC-STEM).The results showed that Hf and Ta suppressed the intergranular fracture and initiation of cracks during the acceleration creep stage, which prolonged the creep rupture time.Hf and Ta inhibited the stacking faults extending and the dislocation climbing and promoted the Suzuki segregation of W during the steady-state creep stage, which reduced the minimum creep rate and delayed the start time of the acceleration creep stage. The Suzuki segregation of Co,Cr,Mo,Ti,Nb,W,and Ta along stacking faults was observed after Hf and Ta addition, leading to the localized phase transformation in the γ′phase, and the stacking fault phase was chemically disordered. This study provided ideas for the composition design of novel PM Ni-based superalloys and theoretical foundations for the combined addition of Hf and Ta.

文摘Forecasting landslide deformation is challenging due to influence of various internal and external factors on the occurrence of systemic and localized heterogeneities.Despite the potential to improve landslide predictability, deep learning has yet to be sufficiently explored for complex deformation patterns associated with landslides and is inherently opaque.Herein,we developed a holistic landslide deformation forecasting method that considers spatiotemporal correlations of landslide deformation by integrating domain knowledge into interpretable deep learning.By spatially capturing the interconnections between multiple deformations from different observation points, our method contributes to the understanding and forecasting of landslide systematic behavior.By integrating specific domain knowledge relevant to each observation point and merging internal properties with external variables, the local heterogeneity is considered in our method, identifying deformation temporal patterns in different landslide zones.Case studies involving reservoir-induced landslides and creeping landslides demonstrated that our approach(1)enhances the accuracy of landslide deformation forecasting,(2)identifies significant contributing factors and their influence on spatiotemporal deformation characteristics,and(3)demonstrates how identifying these factors and patterns facilitates landslide forecasting. Our research offers a promising and pragmatic pathway toward a deeper understanding and forecasting of complex landslide behaviors.

文摘On April 3,2024,an M 7.3 earthquake occurred in the offshore area of Hualien County,Taiwan,China. The seismogenic structure at the epicentral location was highly complex, and studying this earthquake is paramount for understanding regional fault activity. In this study,we employed ascending and descending orbit Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar(SAR)data and utilized differential interferometry(InSAR)technique to obtain the co-seismic deformation field of this event. The line-of-sight deformation field revealed that the main deformation caused by this earthquake was predominantly uplift, with maximum uplift values of approximately 38.8 cm and 46.1 cm for the ascending and descending orbits, respectively.By integrating the three-dimensional GNSS coseismic deformation field,we identified the seismogenic fault located in the offshore thrust zone east of Hualien, trending towards the northwest. The fault geometry parameters, obtained through the inversion of an elastic half-space homogeneous model, indicated an optimal fault strike of 196°,a dip angle of 30.9°,and an average strike-slip of 0.4 m and dip-slip of-2.6 m.This suggests that the predominant motion along the seismogenic fault is thrusting. The distribution of post-seismic Coulomb stress changes revealed that aftershocks mainly occurred in stress-loaded regions. However, stress loading was observed along the northern segment of the Longitudinal Valley Fault, with fewer aftershocks. This highlights the importance of closely monitoring the seismic hazard associated with this fault segment.

文摘The effects of solid solution on the deformation behavior of binary Mg-xZn(x=0,1,2 wt%)alloys featuring a designated texture that enables extension twinning under tension parallel to the basal pole in most grains, were investigated using in-situ neutron diffraction and the EVPSC-TDT model.Neutron diffraction was used to quantitatively track grain-level lattice strains and diffraction intensity changes(related to mechanical twinning)in differently oriented grains of each alloy during cyclic tensile/compressive loadings. These measurements were accurately captured by the model. The stress-strain curves of Mg-1 wt%Zn and Mg-2 wt%Zn alloys show as-expected solid solution strengthening from the addition of Zn compared to pure Mg.The macroscopic yielding and hardening behaviors are explained by alternating slip and twinning modes as calculated by the model. The solid solution's influence on individual deformation modes, including basal〈a〉slip, prismatic〈a〉slip, and extension twinning, was then quantitatively assessed in terms of activity, yielding behavior, and hardening response by combining neutron diffraction results with crystal plasticity predictions. The Mg-1 wt%Zn alloy displays distinct yielding and hardening behavior due to solid solution softening of prismatic〈a〉slip.Additionally, the dependence of extension twinning,in terms of the twinning volume fraction,on Zn content exhibits opposite trends under tensile and compressive loadings.

文摘The deformation caused by tunnel excavation is quite important for safety, especially when it is adjacent to the existing tunnel.Nevertheless, the investigation of deformation characteristics in overlapped curved shield tunneling remains inadequate. The analytical solution for calculating the deformation of the ground and existing tunnel induced by overlapped curved shield tunneling is derived by the Mirror theory,Mindlin solution and Euler-Bernoulli-Pasternak model, subsequently validated through both finite element simulation and field monitoring. It is determined that the overcutting plays a crucial role in the ground settlement resulting from curved shield tunneling compared to straight shield tunneling. The longitudinal settlement distribution can be categorized into five areas, with the area near the tunnel surface experiencing the most dramatic settlement changes. The deformation of the existing tunnel varies most significantly with turning radius compared to tunnel clearance and grouting pressure, especially when the turning radius is less than 30 times the tunnel diameter. The tunnel crown exhibits larger displacement than the tunnel bottom, resulting in a distinctive‘vertical egg'shape.Furthermore,an optimized overcutting mode is proposed, involving precise control of the extension speed and angular velocity of the overcutting cutter, which effectively mitigates ground deformation, ensuring the protection of the existing tunnel during the construction.

文摘The intersection is a widely used traffic line structure from the shallow tunnel to the deep roadway, and determining the subsidence hidden danger area of the roof is the key to its stability control. However, applying traditional maximum equivalent span beam(MESB)theory to determine deformation range, peak point, and angle influence poses a challenge.Considering the overall structure of the intersection roof, the maximum equivalent triangular plate(METP)theory is proposed, and its geometric parameter calculation formula and deflection calculation formula are obtained. The application of the two theories in 18 models with different intersection angles, roadway types, and surrounding rock lithology is verified by numerical analysis. The results show that:1)The METP structure of the intersection roof established by the simulation results of each model successfully determined the location of the roof’s high displacement zone;2)The area comparison method of the METP theory can be reasonably explained:①The roof subsidence of the intersection decreases with the increase of the intersection angle;②The roof subsidence at the intersection of different roadway types has a rectangular type>arch type>circular type;③The roof subsidence of the intersection with weak surrounding rock is significantly larger than that of the intersection with hard surrounding rock.According to the application results of the two theories, the four advantages of the METP theory are compared and clarified in the basic assumptions, mechanical models, main viewpoints, and mechanism analysis. The large deformation inducement of the intersection roof is then explored. The J 2 peak area of the roof drives the large deformation of the area, the peak point of which is consistent with the center of gravity position of the METP.Furthermore, the change in the range of this peak is consistent with the change law of the METP’s area.Hence, this theory clarifies the large deformation area of the intersection roof, which provides a clear guiding basis for its initial support design,mid-term monitoring, and late local reinforcement.

文摘The special columnar jointed structure endows rocks with significant anisotropy, accurately grasping the strength and deformation properties of a columnar jointed rock mass(CJRM)under complex geological conditions is crucial for related engineering safety.Combined with the irregular jointed networks observed in the field, artificial irregular CJRM(ICJRM)samples with various inclination angles were prepared for triaxial tests. The results showed that the increase in confining pressure can enhance the ability of the ICJRM to resist deformation and failure, and reduce the deformation and strength anisotropic degrees.Considering the field stress situation, the engineering parts with an inclination angle of 30°−45°need to be taken seriously.Four typical failure modes were identified, and the sample with an inclination angle of 15°showed the same failure behavior as the field CJRM.Traditional and improved joint factor methods were used to establish empirical relationships for predicting the strength and deformation of CJRM under triaxial stress.Since the improved joint factor method can reflect the unique structure of CJRM,the predictive ability of the empirical relationship based on the improved method is better than that based on the traditional joint factor method.

文摘Uranium–molybdenum(U–Mo) alloys are critical for nuclear power generation and propulsion because of their superior thermal conductivity, irradiation stability, and anti-swelling properties. Insights are provided for optimizing process conditions to avoid γ → α′′ transitions, thereby maintaining a higher proportion of γ-phase U–Mo alloys for practical applications.

文摘The current study focuses on investigating the effect of in-plane cyclic shear(IPCS)on the microstructure and texture evolution in an AZX311 Mg alloy sheet using a customized in-plane shear jig.Samples were deformed at two distinct strain levels of 0.05 and 0.10,with tests conducted over different numbers of deformation cycles at each strain level.A detailed microstructural investigation using electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD)revealed that in-plane cyclic shear induced the formation of numerous tensile twins(TTWs)in the alloy sheet. Both the shear strain and the number of deformation cycles contributed to an increase in the twin volume fraction(TVF),which played a critical role in texture evolution.Notably, unlike in-plane shear(IPS)deformation, where two satellite peaks appear in opposite quadrants,in-plane cyclic shear resulted in satellite peaks across all four quadrants of the polefigure. The evolution of texture components across all four quadrants arises from the load variations under forward and reverse loading during cyclic deformation.Thus,in-plane cyclic shear deformation can generate texture components along nearly all directions in the polefigures.Additionally, microstructural and microtextural analyses revealed that TTW is the dominant deformation mechanism, contributing to texture evolution.Furthermore, the resolved shear stress(RSS)analysis indicated that prismatic slip activity predominantly governs dislocation slip behavior.

文摘The recovery of coseismic 3-dimensional(3D)surface deformation field plays a crucial role in studying seismic source characteristics and earthquake hazards. As of now, there are two main types of methods for recovering coseismic 3D surface deformations:the first type is to solve the problem directly by using the least squares method based on observations from three or more viewpoints, and the second type solves the problem by combining ascending and descending In SAR line-of-sight(LOS)observations with constraint models. The former type is mainly applicable to surface rupture earthquakes, because when an earthquake ruptures to the surface,we can usually obtain surface deformation observations from three or more views. The latter type applies to earthquakes that do not cause surface ruptures and have extensive blind faults.Currently, most research focuses on improving the above types of methods. However, some key factors in the coseismic 3D surface deformation inversion are rarely mentioned, such as the influence of window size on the inversion results in the strain model and variance component estimation method(SM-VCE),and whether the outliers in the observational data are considered. So,we developed a new chain of integrating In SAR observation and SM-VCE model to systematically assess the impacts of window size and outliers on coseismic 3D surface deformation inversions.Through simulation experiments,we observed that the selection of window size significantly impacts the accuracy of the results.Specifically, larger window sizes lead to wider residuals ranges in the fault region, resulting in the loss of extreme solution values when using a window of 15×15 pixels(i.e.,7.5 km×7.5 km).Hence,we recommend utilizing windows with 7×7 pixels or 9×9 pixels for optimal accuracy,as larger window sizes diminish the significance of the outcomes. The elimination of points displaying different deformation directions helps reduce residuals and preserves near-field deformation results.Furthermore, the residuals along the 3D direction can be reduced by 10%-30%when a small set of points is selected using a method based on Euclidean distances. However, when 441 points were selected, the vertical residuals increased by 22%compared to 81 points.Integration of the SM-VCE algorithm with robust estimation techniques effectively minimizes far-field deformation errors in data, thereby marginally enhancing the near-field deformation solution.

文摘Taking the Pusa Collapse in Nayong County,Guizhou Province,China as a case study, this paper investigates the impact of multi-layer coal mining on karst mountains characterized by deep fissures.Based on field investigations and employing discrete element numerical simulations, the deformation and failure mechanisms of karst mountain containing deep and large fissures under multi-seam mining conditions was investigated. The influence of the direction of coal seam extraction and the sequence of extraction between multiple coal seams on the failure modes of karst mountain with deep and large fissures was studied. The results indicate that underground mining primarily manifests in the development of mininginduced fissures in the mountain body, subsidence and deformation of slope masses, and triggering the expansion of existing fissures, further driving overall deformation and damage to the slopes.Deep and large fissures control the deformation and failure modes of the slopes, with closer and longer deep and large fissures near the slope surface exerting greater influence on the slope mass. The impact of mining in the same coal seam direction on the slopes is mainly reflected in the process of slope deformation and failure.Downslope mining directly leads to overall subsidence of the slope mass, squeezing the front and lower parts of the slope mass.Upslope mining initially causes the foot of the slope to sink and the entire slope mass to move outward, and continuous mining leads to overall settlement and downward compression deformation of the slope. The sequence of mining between multiple coal seams mainly affects the overall and local deformation values of the slope mass.Downward mining leads to increased overall subsidence of the slope mass and exacerbates the backward tilt of the slope top.

文摘The deformation energy(Wd)of soil-like tectonic coal is crucial for investigating the mechanism of coal and gas outbursts.Tectonic coal has a significant nonlinear constitutive relationship, which makes traditional elastic-based models for computing Wdunsuitable.Inspired by critical state soil mechanics, this study theoretically established a new calculation model of Wdsuitable for the coal with nonlinear deformation characteristics. In the new model, the relationship between energy and stress no longer follows the square law(observed in traditional linear elastic models)but exhibits a power function, with the theoretical value of the power exponent ranging between 1 and 2.Hydrostatic cyclic loading and unloading experiments were conducted on four groups of tectonic coal samples and one group of intact coal samples. The results indicated that the relationship between Wdand stress for both intact and tectonic coal follows a power law.The exponents for intact and tectonic coal are close to 2 and 1,respectively.The stress-strain curve of intact coal exhibits small deformation and linear characteristics, whereas the stress-strain curves of tectonic coal show large deformation and nonlinear characteristics. The study specifically investigates the role of coal viscosity in the cyclic loading/unloading process. The downward bending in the unloading curves can be attributed to the time-dependent characteristics of coal, particularly its viscoelastic behavior.Based on experimental statistics, the calculation model of Wdwas further simplified. The simplified model involves only one unknown parameter, which is the power exponent between Wdand stress. The measured Wdof the coal samples increases with the number of load cycles. This phenomenon is attributed to coal's viscoelastic deformation.Within the same stress, the Wdof tectonic coal is an order of magnitude greater than that of intact coal. The calculation model of Wdproposed in this paper provides a new tool for studying the energy principle of coal and gas outbursts.
