Tow objective functions are simultaneously optimized under a set of practical of machining constraints, the first objective function is cutting cost and the second one is the used tool life time. The proposed model deals multi-pass turning processes where the cutting operations are divided into multi-pass rough machining and finish machining. Results obtained from Genetic Algorithms method are presented in Pareto frontier graphic;this technique helps us in decision making process. An example is presented to illustrate the procedure of this technique.展开更多

The process and machine capability indices were measured to determine the process and machine adequacy for industrial application. The tolerance limits were obtained from the given nominal size of the shaft, using the basic hole system and 90 sample shafts were turned on the lathe machine to specification for varying spindle speed and feed rate of the lathe. Three (3) samples were randomly selected for the turning process of a combination of the spindle speed and feed rate as a subgroup size for a total subgroup of thirty (30). The diameters (representing the quality characteristics) were used to generate control charts and capability histogram for the process. The process is within statistical control but found incapable of meeting up to specification because the capability index (Cp) measured was less than 1 and the machine capability for industrial application is not adequate.展开更多

Experiments have been conducted using L27 (34) orthogonal array and each experiment was repeated three times and each test used a new cutting tool, High Speed Steel (HSS), to ensure accurate readings of the surface roughness. The statistical methods of Signal-to-Noise (S/N) ratio and the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were applied to investigate effects of cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut on surface roughness under different cutting fluids. Minitab 14 software was used to analyze the effect of variables on the surface roughness. Results obtained indicated that optimal variables for the minimum surface roughness were cutting speed of 35 m/min (level 2), feed of 0.124 mm/rev (level 1), depth of cut of 0.3 mm (level 1) and a cutting fluid with a viscosity of 2.898 mm2/s (level 3). Hence, the optimal parameters to obtain better surface roughness of the workpiece material were obtained when groundnut oil based cutting fluid was used. Analysis of variance shows that feed rate has the most significant effect on surface roughness.展开更多

Based on depth analysis of DXF data structure, take one drawing of DXF lathe turning rotational part asthe test piece. By VC++6.0 programming, part's geometry information could be obtained. Through data processing, 3D data of the test piece could be generated, which is based on 2D data of DXF test piece. Then, OpenGL graphic processing technologies (light, material, texture, map, et al.) were applied on the 3D display of test piece from DXF files or program modules. Finally based on the test report, results of the system functions were shared to prove the realization of system design, and the feasibility of algorithms used. In the developed software, Machine Designers could get a full view of machine parts, and do some proper modifications. The study content and results of our work have some theory and practical significance on the application of program design in the practical projects.展开更多
