Thus, in a power system ... Essentially, it is significant to supply the consumer with reliable and sufficient power. Since, power quality is measured by the consistency in frequency and power flow between control areas. Thus, in a power system operation and control,automatic generation control(AGC) plays a crucial role. In this paper, multi-area(Five areas: area 1, area 2, area 3, area 4 and area 5) reheat thermal power systems are considered with proportional-integral-derivative(PID) controller as a supplementary controller. Each area in the investigated power system is equipped with appropriate governor unit, turbine with reheater unit, generator and speed regulator unit. The PID controller parameters are optimized by considering nature bio-inspired firefly algorithm(FFA). The experimental results demonstrated the comparison of the proposed system performance(FFA-PID)with optimized PID controller based genetic algorithm(GAPID) and particle swarm optimization(PSO) technique(PSOPID) for the same investigated power system. The results proved the efficiency of employing the integral time absolute error(ITAE) cost function with one percent step load perturbation(1 % SLP) in area 1. The proposed system based FFA achieved the least settling time compared to using the GA or the PSO algorithms, while, it attained good results with respect to the peak overshoot/undershoot. In addition, the FFA performance is improved with the increased number of iterations which outperformed the other optimization algorithms based controller. 展开更多

An adaptive state feedback predictive control (SFPC) scheme and an expert control scheme are presented and applied to the temperature control of a 1200 kt·a^-1 delayed coking furnace, which is the key equipment for the delayed coking process. Adaptive SFPC is used to improve the performance of temperature control in normal operation. A simplified nonlinear model on the basis of first principles of the furnace is developed to obtain a state space model by linearization. Taking advantage of the nonlinear model, an online model adapting method is presented to accommodate the dynamic change of process characteristics because of tube coking and load changes. To compensate the large inverse response of outlet temperature resulting from the sudden increase of injected steam of a particular velocity to tubes, a monitoring method and an expert control scheme based on heat balance calculation are proposed. Industrial implementation shows the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed control strategy. 展开更多

Moreover, coagulant dosing rate is non-linearly correlated to raw water characteristics such as turbidity, conductivity, PH, temperature, etc. As such, coagulation reaction is hard or even impossible to control satisfactorily by conventional methods. Based on neural network and rule models, an expert system for determining the optimum chemical dosage rate is developed and used in a water treatment work, and the results of actual runs show that in the condition of satisfying the demand of drinking water quality, the usage of coagulant is lowered. 展开更多

Design of general multivariable process controllers is an attractive and practical alternative to optimizing design by evolutionary algorithms (EAs) since it can be formulated as an optimization problem. A closed-loop particle swarm optimization (CLPSO) algorithm is proposed by mapping PSO elements into the closed-loop system based on control theories. At each time step, a proportional integral (PI) controller is used to calculate an updated inertia weight for each particle in swarms from its last fitness. With this modification, limitations caused by a uniform inertia weight for the whole population are avoided, and the particles have enough diversity. After the effectiveness, efficiency and robustness are tested by benchmark functions, CLPSO is applied to design a multivariable proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for a solvent dehydration tower in a chemical plant and has improved its performances. 展开更多

The control functions consist of sintering chemical composition control centered on basicity and sintering process state control centered on permeability. The adaptive prediction of sintering chemical composition, the control strategy centered on basicity, the control strategy centered on permeability, the judgement of permeability and the prediction of burn through point were studied. In this paper, a parallel fuzzy proportional plus fuzzy integral plus fuzzy derivative (FP+FI+FD) controller is proposed. It is derived from the conventional parallel proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. It preserves the linear structure of a conventional parallel PID controller, with analytical formulas. The final shape of the controller is a discrete-time fuzzy version of a conventional parallel PID controller. Computer simulations are performed to evaluate the performance of the FP+FI+FD controller for setpoint tracking and load-disturbance rejection for some complex processes, such as first- and second-order processes with delay, inverse response process with and without delay and higher order processes. Also, the performance of the proposed fuzzy controller is evaluated experimentally on highly nonlinear liquid-flow process with a hysteresis characteristic due to a pneumatic control valve. The simulation and real time control is done using National InstrumentTM hardware and software (LabVIEWTM). The response of the FP+FI+FD controller is compared with the conventional parallel PID controller, tuned with the Ziegler-Nichols (Z-H) and /~strSm- H^gglund (A-H) tuning technique. It is observed that the FP+FI+FD controller performed much better than the conventional PI/PID controller. S-surface control has proven to be an effective means for motion control of underwater autonomous vehicles(AUV).However there are still problems maintaining steady precision of course due to the constant need to adjust parameters,especially where there are disturbing currents.Thus an intelligent integral was introduced to improve precision.An expert S-surface control was developed to tune the parameters on-line,based on the expert system,it provides S-surface control according to practical experience and control knowledge.To prevent control output over-compensation,a fuzzy neural network was included to adjust the production rules to the knowledge base.Experiments were conducted on an AUV simulation platform,and the results show that the expert S-surface controller performs better than an S-surface controller in environments with currents,producing good steady precision of course in a robust way. 展开更多

The most important parameters which control the electrolytic process are the concentrations of zinc and sulfuric acid in the electrolyte. An expert control strategy for determining and tracking the optimal concentrations was proposed, which uses neural networks, rule models and a single loop control scheme. First, the process was described and the strategy that features an expert controller and three single loop controllers was explained. Next, neural networks and rule models were constructed based on statistical data and empirical knowledge on the process. Then, the expert controller for determining the optimal concentrations was designed through a combination of the neural networks and rule models. The three single loop controllers used the PI algorithm to track the optimal concentrations. Finally, the implementation of the proposed strategy were presented. The run results show that the strategy provides not only high purity metallic zinc, but also significant economic benefits. 展开更多

Asymmetric stereoscopic video coding can take advantage of binocular suppression in human vision by representing one of the two views in lower quality.This paper proposes a bit allocation strategy for asymmetric stereoscopic video coding.In order to improve the accuracy of bit allocation and rate control in the left view,a proportionalintegral-derivative controller is adopted.Meanwhile,to control the quality fluctuation between consecutive frames of the left view,a quality controller is adopted.Besides,a fuzzy controller is proposed to control the variation in quality between the left and right views by comparing the PSNR disparity of two views with a fixed threshold,which is used to quantize the binocular psycho-visual redundancy and adjust the quantization parameter (QP) of the right view correspondingly.The proposed algorithm has been implemented in H.264/AVC video codec,and the experimental results show its effectiveness in rate control while keeping a good quality for the left view,and fewer bits are allocated for the right view so that the overall bit rate is saved by 7.2% at most without the loss of subjective visual quality for stereoscopic video. 展开更多

Controlling the biogas fermentation process is the key for maintaining stable operation of biogas system and increasing gas yield. Aiming at features of biogas fermentation process and difficulties of control, a practical control scheme is proposed combining the abundant experience of biogas experts. And it discussed the structural design and hardware configuration of the expert control system, established the database and role base, and designed the control strategy of production system inference. The design scheme with ZigBee and PDA technology as core is employed so as to solve problems of environmental factor detection and data transfer management. The test result shows that the deviation of temperature is controlled within ± 0.9℃, the deviation of pH is controlled within ±0.3, the deviation of oxidation-reduction potential is controlled within ±30mV, the deviation of gas production is controlled within ± 9mL and that of methane concentration is controlled within ±4.5%. This system is easily expandable and applicable to biogas engineering at various scales. 展开更多
