The equations of motion for the FGM beams are derived by considering the shear deformation and the axial, transversal, rotational, and axial-rotational coupling inertia forces on the assumption that the material properties vary arbitrarily in the thickness direction.By using the numerical shooting method to solve the eigenvalue problem of the coupled ordinary differential equations with different boundary conditions, the natural frequencies of the FGM Timoshenko beams are obtained numerically. In a special case of the classical beam theory, a proportional transformation between the natural frequencies of the FGM and the reference homogenous beams is obtained by using the mathematical similarity between the mathematical formulations. This formula provides a simple and useful approach to evaluate the natural frequencies of the FGM beams without dealing with the tension-bending coupling problem. Approximately, this analogous transition can also be extended to predict the frequencies of the FGM Timoshenko beams. The numerical results obtained by the shooting method and those obtained by the analogous transformation are presented to show the effects of the material gradient, the slenderness ratio, and the boundary conditions on the natural frequencies in detail.展开更多

The first-order shear deformation theory is used to model the electromechanical system. Nonlinear equations of motion are derived by considering the von Karman nonlinear strain-displacement relations using Hamilton's principle. The piezoelectric layers on the inner and outer surfaces of the core can be considered as a sensor and an actuator for controlling characteristic vibration of the system. The equations of motion are derived as partial differential equations and then discretized by the Navier method. Numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effect of different parameters of material and geometry on characteristic vibration of the cylinder. The results of this study show that the natural frequency of the system decreases by increasing the non-homogeneous index of FGP layers and decreases by increasing the non-homogeneous index of the functionally graded core. Furthermore, it is concluded that by increasing the ratio of core thickness to cylinder length, the natural frequencies of the cylinder increase considerably.展开更多

Equations of motion of an FGM beam are derived by directly integrating the stress-form equations of elasticity along the beam depth with the inertial resultant forces related to the included coupling and higherorder shear strain. Assuming harmonic response, governing equations of the free vibration of the FGM beam are reduced to a standard system of second-order ordinary differential equations associated with boundary conditions in terms of shape functions related to axial and transverse displacements and the rotational angle. By a shooting method to solve the two-point boundary value problem of the three coupled ordinary differential equations, free vibration response of thick FGM beams is obtained numerically. Particularly, for a beam with simply supported edges, the natural frequency of an FGM Levinson beam is analytically derived in terms of the natural frequency of a corresponding homogenous Euler-Bernoulli beam. As the material properties are assumed to vary through the depth according to the power-law functions, the numerical results of frequencies are presented to examine the effects of the material gradient parameter, the length-to-depth ratio, and the boundary conditions on the vibration response.展开更多

文摘The bending and free vibrational behaviors of functionally graded(FG)cylindrical beams with radially and axially varying material inhomogeneities are investigated.Based on a high-order cylindrical beam model, where the shear deformation and rotary inertia are both considered, the two coupled governing differential motion equations for the deflection and rotation are established. The analytical bending solutions for various boundary conditions are derived. In the vibrational analysis of FG cylindrical beams, the two governing equations are firstly changed to a single equation by means of an auxiliary function, and then the vibration mode is expanded into shifted Chebyshev polynomials.Numerical examples are given to investigate the effects of the material gradient indices on the deflections, the stress distributions, and the eigenfrequencies of the cylindrical beams, respectively.By comparing the obtained numerical results with those obtained by the three-dimensional(3D)elasticity theory and the Timoshenko beam theory, the effectiveness of the present approach is verified.

文摘A novel symplectic superposition method has been proposed and developed for plate and shell problems in recent years. The method has yielded many new analytic solutions due to its rigorousness. In this study, the first endeavor is made to further developed the symplectic superposition method for the free vibration of rectangular thin plates with mixed boundary constraints on an edge. The Hamiltonian system-based governing equation is first introduced such that the mathematical techniques in the symplectic space are applied. The solution procedure incorporates separation of variables, symplectic eigen solution and superposition. The analytic solution of an original problem is finally obtained by a set of equations via the equivalence to the superposition of some elaborated subproblems. The natural frequency and mode shape results for representative plates with both clamped and simply supported boundary constraints imposed on the same edge are reported for benchmark use.The present method can be extended to more challenging problems that cannot be solved by conventional analytic methods.
文摘In the present study, the static and dynamic analyses of elliptical functionally graded sandwich(FGS)plates are investigated. The constituent materials of the sandwich plates are ceramic and metal so that the core is made of pure metal, while the face sheets consist of a combination of metal and ceramic according to a four-parameter power-law distribution.Different material profiles such as classic, symmetric, and asymmetric can be obtained using the applied generalized power-law distribution relation. The analysis is performed based on the classical laminated plate theory(CLPT)and the Ritz method. The effects of four parameters in the material distribution relation as well as different geometric parameters on the deflection and natural frequencies of elliptical FGS plates are studied. The results of this study show that with a proper distribution of materials, the optimal static and dynamic behavior can be achieved. The results also indicate that the generalized power-law distribution has significant effects on the natural frequencies of elliptical FGS plates. For example, although the frequency parameter of a plate with ceramic face sheets is more than the one with metal face sheets, the use of larger amounts of ceramic does not necessarily increase the natural frequency of the structure.
文摘The effect of magnetic field on the plane vibrations for an elastodynamic orthotropic sphere is studied. Equations of elastodynamic problems of the orthotropic hollow sphere in terms of displacement are solved. The numerical results of the frequency equations in the presence of magnetic field are discussed and shown graphically. Comparisons are made with the result in the presence and absence of magnetic field in the case of orthotropic sphere. The results show that the effect of magnetic field is very pronounced.

文摘A new procedure is proposed to ease the analyses of the free vibration of an elastically connected identical plates system with respect to Kirchhoff plate theory.A structure of n parallel, elastically connected rectangular plates is of concern, whereby the motion is explained by a set of n coupled partial differential equations. The method involves a new change in variables to uncouple equations and form an equal system of n decoupled plates, while each is assumed to be elastically connected to the ground. The differential quadrature method is adopted to solve the decoupled equations. To unravel the original system, the inverse transform is applied.Decoupling the equations enables one to solve them based on the solution methods available for a single plate system. This also diminishes the computational costs of such problems.By considering different boundary conditions,a case study is run to present the method and to validate the results with its counterparts, for which excellent agreement is observed.Assessing the influence of dimensionless thickness, aspect ratio, and stiffness coefficients on the frequencies reveals the different effects of them at the low order of dimensionless natural frequencies in comparison with high orders and for different boundary conditions.

文摘The aim of the present study is to investigate the nonlinear free vibration of spinning cylindrical shells under spinning and arbitrary boundary conditions.Artificial springs are used to simulate arbitrary boundary conditions.Sanders’shell theory is employed, and von Kármán nonlinear terms are considered in the theoretical modeling.By using Chebyshev polynomials as admissible functions, motion equations are derived with the Ritz method. Then,a direct iteration method is used to obtain the nonlinear vibration frequencies. The effects of the circumferential wave number, the boundary spring stiffness, and the spinning speed on the nonlinear vibration characteristics of the shells are highlighted. It is found that there exist sensitive intervals for the boundary spring stiffness, which makes the variation of the nonlinear frequency ratio more evident. The decline of the frequency ratio caused by the spinning speed is more significant for the higher vibration amplitude and the smaller boundary spring stiffness.

文摘The present study aims to analyze free vibration of thin skew plates made of functionally graded material(FGM)by using the weak form quadrature element method. The material properties vary continuously through the thickness according to a power-law form.A novel FGM skew plate element is formulated according to the neutral surface based plate theory and with the help of the differential quadrature rule. For verifications,Numerical results are compared with available data in literature. Results reveal that the non-dimensional frequency parameters of the FGM skew plates are independent of the power-law exponent and always proportional to those of homogeneous isotropic ones when the coupling and rotary inertias are neglected. In addition, employing the physical neutral surface based plate theory is equivalent to using the middle plane based plate theory with the reduced flexural modulus matrix.
