To solve the problems of a few optical fibre line fault samples and the inefficiency of manual communication optical fibre fault diagnosis,this paper proposes a communication optical fibre fault diagnosis model based on variational modal decomposition(VMD),fuzzy entropy(FE)and fuzzy clustering(FC).Firstly,based on the OTDR curve data collected in the field,VMD is used to extract the different modal components(IMF)of the original signal and calculate the fuzzy entropy(FE)values of different components to characterize the subtle differences between them.The fuzzy entropy of each curve is used as the feature vector,which in turn constructs the communication optical fibre feature vector matrix,and the fuzzy clustering algorithm is used to achieve fault diagnosis of faulty optical fibre.The VMD-FE combination can extract subtle differences in features,and the fuzzy clustering algorithm does not require sample training.The experimental results show that the model in this paper has high accuracy and is relevant to the maintenance of communication optical fibre when compared with existing feature extraction models and traditional machine learning models. 展开更多

Clustering is a crucial method for deciphering data structure and producing new information.Due to its significance in revealing fundamental connections between the human brain and events,it is essential to utilize clustering for cognitive research.Dealing with noisy data caused by inaccurate synthesis from several sources or misleading data production processes is one of the most intriguing clustering difficulties.Noisy data can lead to incorrect object recognition and inference.This research aims to innovate a novel clustering approach,named Picture-Neutrosophic Trusted Safe Semi-Supervised Fuzzy Clustering(PNTS3FCM),to solve the clustering problem with noisy data using neutral and refusal degrees in the definition of Picture Fuzzy Set(PFS)and Neutrosophic Set(NS).Our contribution is to propose a new optimization model with four essential components:clustering,outlier removal,safe semi-supervised fuzzy clustering and partitioning with labeled and unlabeled data.The effectiveness and flexibility of the proposed technique are estimated and compared with the state-of-art methods,standard Picture fuzzy clustering(FC-PFS)and Confidence-weighted safe semi-supervised clustering(CS3FCM)on benchmark UCI datasets.The experimental results show that our method is better at least 10/15 datasets than the compared methods in terms of clustering quality and computational time. 展开更多

Reduced order models-ROMs) based on the snapshots on the CFD high-fidelity simulations have been paid great attention recently due to their capability of capturing the features of the complex geometries and flow configurations. To improve the efficiency and precision of the ROMs, it is indispensable to add extra sampling points to the initial snapshots, since the number of sampling points to achieve an adequately accurate ROM is generally unknown in prior, but a large number of initial sampling points reduces the parsimony of the ROMs. A fuzzy-clustering-based adding-point strategy is proposed and the fuzzy clustering acts an indicator of the region in which the precision of ROMs is relatively low. The proposed method is applied to construct the ROMs for the benchmark mathematical examples and a numerical example of hypersonic aerothermodynamics prediction for a typical control surface. The proposed method can achieve a 34.5% improvement on the efficiency than the estimated mean squared error prediction algorithm and shows same-level prediction accuracy. 展开更多

Image segmentation remains one of the major challenges in image analysis.And soft image segmentation has been widely used due to its good effect.Fuzzy clustering algorithms are very popular in soft segmentation.A new soft image segmentation method based on center-free fuzzy clustering is proposed.The center-free fuzzy clustering is the modified version of the classical fuzzy C-means ( FCM ) clustering.Different from traditional fuzzy clustering , the center-free fuzzy clustering does not need to calculate the cluster center , so it can be applied to pairwise relational data.In the proposed method , the mean-shift method is chosen for initial segmentation firstly , then the center-free clustering is used to merge regions and the final segmented images are obtained at last.Experimental results show that the proposed method is better than other image segmentation methods based on traditional clustering. 展开更多

Earthquake rupture process generally involves several faults activities instead of a single fault.A new method using both fuzzy clustering and principal component analysis makes it possible to reconstruct three dimensional structure of involved faults in earthquake if the aftershocks around the active fault planes distribute uniformly.When seismic events are given,the optimal faults structures can be determined by our new method.Each of sub-fault planes is fully characterized by its central location,length,width,strike and dip.The resolution determines the number of fault segments needed to describe the earthquake catalog.The higher the resolution,the finer the structure of the reconstructed fault segments.The new method successfully reconstructs the fault segments using synthetic earthquake catalogs.By taking the 28 June 1992 Landers earthquake occured in southern California as an example,the reconstructed fault segments are consistent with the faults already known on geological maps or blind faults that appeared quite frequently in longer-term catalogs. 展开更多

An evaluation index is a prerequisite for the scientific evaluation of a public meteorological service.This paper aims to explore a technical method for determining and screening evaluation indicators.Based on public satisfaction survey data obtained in Wafangdian,China in 2010,this study investigates the suitability of fuzzy clustering analysis method in establishing an evaluation index.Through quantitative analysis of multilayer fuzzy clustering of various evaluation indicators,correlation analysis indicates that if the results of clustering were identical for two evaluation indicators in the same sub-evaluation layer,then one indicator could be removed,or the two indicators merged.For evaluation indicators in different sub-evaluation layers,although clustering reveals attribute correlations,these indicators may not be substituted for one another.Analysis of the applicability of the fuzzy clustering method shows that it plays a certain role in the establishment and correction of an evaluation index. 展开更多

The slagging/fouling due to the accession of fireside deposits on the steam boilers decreases boiler efficiency and availability which leads to unexpected shut-downs. Since it is inevitably associated with the three major factors namely the fuel characteristics, boiler operating conditions and ash behavior, this serious slagging/fouling may be reduced by varying the above three factors. The research develops a generic slagging/fouling prediction tool based on hybrid fuzzy clustering and Artificial Neural Networks (FCANN). The FCANN model presents a good accuracy of 99.85% which makes this model fast in response and easy to be updated with lesser time when compared to single ANN. The comparison between predictions and observations is found to be satisfactory with less input parameters. This should be capable of giving relatively quick responses while being easily implemented for various furnace types. 展开更多

Unsupervised clustering and clustering validity are used as essential instruments of data analytics.Despite clustering being realized under uncertainty,validity indices do not deliver any quantitative evaluation of the uncertainties in the suggested partitionings.Also,validity measures may be biased towards the underlying clustering method.Moreover,neglecting a confidence requirement may result in over-partitioning.In the absence of an error estimate or a confidence parameter,probable clustering errors are forwarded to the later stages of the system.Whereas,having an uncertainty margin of the projected labeling can be very fruitful for many applications such as machine learning.Herein,the validity issue was approached through estimation of the uncertainty and a novel low complexity index proposed for fuzzy clustering.It involves only uni-dimensional membership weights,regardless of the data dimension,stipulates no specific distribution,and is independent of the underlying similarity measure.Inclusive tests and comparisons returned that it can reliably estimate the optimum number of partitions under different data distributions,besides behaving more robust to over partitioning.Also,in the comparative correlation analysis between true clustering error rates and some known internal validity indices,the suggested index exhibited the highest strong correlations.This relationship has been also proven stable through additional statistical acceptance tests.Thus the provided relative uncertainty measure can be used as a probable error estimate in the clustering as well.Besides,it is the only method known that can exclusively identify data points in dubiety and is adjustable according to the required confidence level. 展开更多

Clustering analysis identifying unknown heterogenous subgroups of a population(or a sample)has become increasingly popular along with the popularity of machine learning techniques.Although there are many software packages running clustering analysis,there is a lack of packages conducting clustering analysis within a structural equation modeling framework.The package,gscaLCA which is implemented in the R statistical computing environment,was developed for conducting clustering analysis and has been extended to a latent variable modeling.More specifically,by applying both fuzzy clustering(FC)algorithm and generalized structured component analysis(GSCA),the package gscaLCA computes membership prevalence and item response probabilities as posterior probabilities,which is applicable in mixture modeling such as latent class analysis in statistics.As a hybrid model between data clustering in classifications and model-based mixture modeling approach,fuzzy clusterwise GSCA,denoted as gscaLCA,encompasses many advantages from both methods:(1)soft partitioning from FC and(2)efficiency in estimating model parameters with bootstrap method via resolution of global optimization problem from GSCA.The main function,gscaLCA,works for both binary and ordered categorical variables.In addition,gscaLCA can be used for latent class regression as well.Visualization of profiles of latent classes based on the posterior probabilities is also available in the package gscaLCA.This paper contributes to providing a methodological tool,gscaLCA that applied researchers such as social scientists and medical researchers can apply clustering analysis in their research. 展开更多

Diabetes is a chronic health condition that impairs the body’s ability to convert food to energy,recognized by persistently high levels of blood glucose.Undiagnosed diabetes can cause many complications,including retinopathy,nephropathy,neuropathy,and other vascular disorders.Machine learning methods can be very useful for disease identification,prediction,and treatment.This paper proposes a new ensemble learning approach for type 2 diabetes prediction based on a hybrid meta-classifier of fuzzy clustering and logistic regression.The proposed approach consists of two levels.First,a baselearner comprising six machine learning algorithms is utilized for predicting diabetes.Second,a hybrid meta-learner that combines fuzzy clustering and logistic regression is employed to appropriately integrate predictions from the base-learners and provide an accurate prediction of diabetes.The hybrid metalearner employs the Fuzzy C-means Clustering(FCM)algorithm to generate highly significant clusters of predictions from base-learners.The predictions of base-learners and their fuzzy clusters are then employed as inputs to the Logistic Regression(LR)algorithm,which generates the final diabetes prediction result.Experiments were conducted using two publicly available datasets,the Pima Indians Diabetes Database(PIDD)and the Schorling Diabetes Dataset(SDD)to demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method for predicting diabetes.When compared with other models,the proposed approach outperformed them and obtained the highest prediction accuracies of 99.00%and 95.20%using the PIDD and SDD datasets,respectively. 展开更多

The objects in remote sensing images often have to be detected in order toperform next steps in image processing. Remote sensing images usually havelarge size and various spatial resolutions. Thus, detecting objects in remote sensing images is very complicated. In this paper, we develop a model to detectobjects in remote sensing images based on the combination of picture fuzzy clustering and MapReduce method (denoted as MPFC). Firstly, picture fuzzy clustering is applied to segment the input images. Then, MapReduce is used to reducethe runtime with the guarantee of quality. To convert data for MapReduce processing, two new procedures are introduced, including Map_PFC and Reduce_PFC.The formal representation and details of two these procedures are presented in thispaper. The experiments on satellite image and remote sensing image datasets aregiven to evaluate proposed model. Validity indices and time consuming are usedto compare proposed model to picture fuzzy clustering model. The values ofvalidity indices show that picture fuzzy clustering integrated to MapReduce getsbetter quality of segmentation than using picture fuzzy clustering only. Moreover,on two selected image datasets, the run time of MPFC model is much less thanthat of picture fuzzy clustering. 展开更多

In order to improve performance and robustness of clustering,it is proposed to generate and aggregate a number of primary clusters via clustering ensemble technique.Fuzzy clustering ensemble approaches attempt to improve the performance of fuzzy clustering tasks.However,in these approaches,cluster(or clustering)reliability has not paid much attention to.Ignoring cluster(or clustering)reliability makes these approaches weak in dealing with low-quality base clustering methods.In this paper,we have utilized cluster unreliability estimation and local weighting strategy to propose a new fuzzy clustering ensemble method which has introduced Reliability Based weighted co-association matrix Fuzzy C-Means(RBFCM),Reliability Based Graph Partitioning(RBGP)and Reliability Based Hyper Clustering(RBHC)as three new fuzzy clustering consensus functions.Our fuzzy clustering ensemble approach works based on fuzzy cluster unreliability estimation.Cluster unreliability is estimated according to an entropic criterion using the cluster labels in the entire ensemble.To do so,the new metric is dened to estimate the fuzzy cluster unreliability;then,the reliability value of any cluster is determined using a Reliability Driven Cluster Indicator(RDCI).The time complexities of RBHC and RBGP are linearly proportional with thnumber of data objects.Performance and robustness of the proposed method are experimentally evaluated for some benchmark datasets.The experimental results demonstrate efciency and suitability of the proposed method. 展开更多

Metamodel-based Global Optimization Using Fuzzy Clustering for Design Space Reduction 被引量:13

High fidelity analysis are utilized in modern engineering design optimization problems which involve expensive black-box models.For computation-intensive engineering design problems,efficient global optimization methods must be developed to relieve the computational burden.A new metamodel-based global optimization method using fuzzy clustering for design space reduction(MGO-FCR) is presented.The uniformly distributed initial sample points are generated by Latin hypercube design to construct the radial basis function metamodel,whose accuracy is improved with increasing number of sample points gradually.Fuzzy c-mean method and Gath-Geva clustering method are applied to divide the design space into several small interesting cluster spaces for low and high dimensional problems respectively.Modeling efficiency and accuracy are directly related to the design space,so unconcerned spaces are eliminated by the proposed reduction principle and two pseudo reduction algorithms.The reduction principle is developed to determine whether the current design space should be reduced and which space is eliminated.The first pseudo reduction algorithm improves the speed of clustering,while the second pseudo reduction algorithm ensures the design space to be reduced.Through several numerical benchmark functions,comparative studies with adaptive response surface method,approximated unimodal region elimination method and mode-pursuing sampling are carried out.The optimization results reveal that this method captures the real global optimum for all the numerical benchmark functions.And the number of function evaluations show that the efficiency of this method is favorable especially for high dimensional problems.Based on this global design optimization method,a design optimization of a lifting surface in high speed flow is carried out and this method saves about 10 h compared with genetic algorithms.This method possesses favorable performance on efficiency,robustness and capability of global convergence and gives a new optimization strategy for engineering design optimization problems involving expensive black box models. 展开更多

A fault diagnosis model is proposed based on fuzzy support vector machine (FSVM) combined with fuzzy clustering (FC).Considering the relationship between the sample point and non-self class,FC algorithm is applied to generate fuzzy memberships.In the algorithm,sample weights based on a distribution density function of data point and genetic algorithm (GA) are introduced to enhance the performance of FC.Then a multi-class FSVM with radial basis function kernel is established according to directed acyclic graph algorithm,the penalty factor and kernel parameter of which are optimized by GA.Finally,the model is executed for multi-class fault diagnosis of rolling element bearings.The results show that the presented model achieves high performances both in identifying fault types and fault degrees.The performance comparisons of the presented model with SVM and distance-based FSVM for noisy case demonstrate the capacity of dealing with noise and generalization. 展开更多

Since health monitoring of shield tunnels generally employs multiple sensors belonging to different types,a fine analysis on massive monitoring data,as well as further quantitative health grading,is really challenging.An optimized fuzzy clustering analysis method based on the fuzzy equivalence relation is proposed for health monitoring of shield tunnels.Clustering results are auto-generated by using fuzzy similarity-valued map.The results follow the idea of unsupervised classification.Moreover,a convenient new health index HI is proposed for a fast tunnel-health grading.A case study on Nanjing Yangtze River Tunnel is presented to validate this method.Three types of indicators,namely soil pressure,pore water pressure and steel strain,are used to develop the clustering model.The clustering results are verified by analyzing the engineering geological conditions;the validity and the efficacy of the proposed method are also demonstrated.Further,the fuzzy clustering analysis also represents a potential for identifying abnormal monitoring data.This investigation indicates the fuzzy clustering analysis method is capable of characterizing the fuzziness of tunnel health,and beneficial to clarify the tunnel health evaluation uncertainties. 展开更多

First, the contrast of original image is enhanced to make boundaries clearer;second, a spatial fuzzy c-mean clustering combining with anatomical prior knowledge is employed to extract liver region automatically;thirdly, a distance regularized level set is used for refinement;finally, morphological operations are used as post-processing. The experiment result shows that the method can achieve high accuracy (0.9986) and specificity (0.9989). Comparing with standard level set method, our method is more effective in dealing with over-segmentation problem. 展开更多

The results of experiments with the synthetic and real data show that the FKCM clustering algorithm is universality and can effectively unsupervised analyze datasets with variform structures in contrast to FCM algorithm. It is can be imagined that kernel-based clustering algorithm is one of important research direction of fuzzy clustering analysis. 展开更多

The algorithm splits an image into n×n blocks, and uses block variance to judge whether the block region is homogeneous. Mean and center pixel of each homogeneous block are extracted for feature. Each inhomogeneous block is split into separate pixels and the mean of neighboring pixels within a window around each pixel and pixel value are extracted for feature. Then cluster of homogeneous blocks and cluster of separate pixels from inhomogeneous blocks are carried out respectively according to different membership functions. In fuzzy clustering stage, the center pixel and center number of the initial clustering are calculated based on histogram by using mean feature. Then different membership functions according to comparative result of block variance are computed. Finally, modified fuzzy c-means with spatial information to complete image segmentation are used. Experimental results show that the proposed method can achieve better segmental results and has shorter executive time than many well-known methods. 展开更多

In order to ensure safe production and process operating, management and optimization of alarm information are challenge work that must be confronted. A new process alarm management method based on fuzzy clustering- ranking algorithm is proposed. The fuzzy clustering algorithm is used to cluster rationally the process variables, and difference driving decision algorithm ranks different clusters and process parameters in every cluster. The alarm signal of higher rank is handled preferentially to manage effectively alarms and avoid blind operation. The validity of proposed algorithm and solution is verified by the practical application of ethylene cracking furnace system. It is an effective and dependable alarm management method to improve operating safety in industrial process. 展开更多
