This paper explores the idea of“Chinese social work 2.0”by reviewing the situation,issues,and needs of Chinese social work for further advancement in historical and comparative perspectives.The“10 years of Chinese ...This paper explores the idea of“Chinese social work 2.0”by reviewing the situation,issues,and needs of Chinese social work for further advancement in historical and comparative perspectives.The“10 years of Chinese social work(2006-2016)”vs.a 30-year history of rebuilding social work in the Chinese mainland can be explained with the transition of GPP(general public policy).This helps to understand the various pitfalls and seeming downturns in Chinese social work over the past years and to understand the major decisions of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)by understanding the historical backdrop and theoretical rationale of“seeking balance”meaning that China formally parts with its“GDP first”doctrine and withdraws its“economic state”GPP from the historical stage,and“seeking sufficiency”meaning that China continues to base its public policy on economic construction rather than to follow a welfare state GPP.Chinese social work professionals should take advantage of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC)by highlighting the core issue of“balanced”development and play a leading role in promoting social fairness and justice.The precondition for fulfilling this role is that social work must be placed among the main disciplinary categories(“Group I subject of social science and humanities”)in China with the enhancement of research and faculty competence via well-designed(doctoral)social work education.展开更多
Purpose:Private supplementary tutoringwidely known as shadow education because of the ways in which it mimics regular schooling-is increasingly visible across the globe.The Middle East is no exception,though the pheno...Purpose:Private supplementary tutoringwidely known as shadow education because of the ways in which it mimics regular schooling-is increasingly visible across the globe.The Middle East is no exception,though the phenomenon has received relatively little attention in the English-language literature.This article maps some key features of shadow education,identifying ways in which contextual forces have shaped it.Design/Approach/Methods:The article focuses on patterns across and within the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council(GCC),namely Bahrain,Kuwait,Oman,Qatar,Saudi Arabia,and the United Arab Emirates.It draws on literature in both Arabic and English and shows the value of multipleunits of comparison.Findings:Private tutoring has a long history as a significant phenomenon in some GCC countries,but in others developed more recently.Some governments have had active policies to dampen the phenomenon,but with little success.Factors in the complex dynamics include social,economic andcultural forces.OriginalityValue:The article assembles literature from around the region,noting both commonalities and diversities among GCC members.It contributes to the global literature by providing the regional mapping from this specific part of the world and by showing comparisons with other world regions.展开更多
This paper discusses in depth the current situation of cultural communication of Chinese online micro-short dramas,the challenges they face,and the strategies for guiding values.With the rapid development of Internet ...This paper discusses in depth the current situation of cultural communication of Chinese online micro-short dramas,the challenges they face,and the strategies for guiding values.With the rapid development of Internet technology,online micro-short dramas,as an emerging form of cultural communication,have rapidly risen to become an important force in the field of cultural communication in China with their short,concise,diversified contents and rapid dissemination.This paper first defines the definition and characteristics of online microshort dramas,and analyzes their current situation in cultural communication,including the significant improvement in quantity and quality,rich and diversified content themes,and a wide range of audience groups.However,the rapid development of online microshorts also faces challenges such as insufficient content innovation,serious homogenization,unsound regulatory mechanism,and ambiguous value orientation.To address these issues,this paper proposes value-oriented strategies including strengthening policy guidance and supervision,enhancing creators'quality and sense of responsibility,optimizing platform content ecology and recommendation mechanism,strengthening audience education and guidance,and promoting the deep integration of industry,academia,research and application.Through case studies and theoretical discussions,this paper aims to provide effective value guidance paths for the cultural dissemination of online micro-dramas,and to promote their development in a more healthy and positive direction.展开更多
