Many studies have been undertaken to predict local scour around offshore high-rise structure foundations(HRSFs),which have been used in constructing the Donghai Wind Farm in China.However,there have been few works on ...Many studies have been undertaken to predict local scour around offshore high-rise structure foundations(HRSFs),which have been used in constructing the Donghai Wind Farm in China.However,there have been few works on the turbulent flow that drives the scour process.In this study,the characteristics of the turbulent flow fields around an HRSF were investigated using the particle image velocimetry technique.The mean flow,vorticity,and turbulence intensity were analyzed in detail.The relationship between the flow feature and scour development around an HRSF was elaborated.The results showed that the flow velocity increased to its maximum value near the third row of the pile group.The shear layer and wake vortices could not be fully developed downstream of the last row of the piles at small Reynolds numbers.The strong flow and turbulent fluctuation near the third piles explained the existence of a longtail scour pattern starting from the HRSF shoulders and a trapezoidal deposition region directly downstream of HRSF.This laboratory experiment gains insight into the mechanism of the turbulent flow around HRSFs and provides a rare dataset for numerical model verifications.展开更多

This paper provides a general perspective of the seismic performance of a nature-inspired,honey-comb grid structural system,known as a hexagrid,under near-field ground motions.Seismic performance of this skeleton is t...This paper provides a general perspective of the seismic performance of a nature-inspired,honey-comb grid structural system,known as a hexagrid,under near-field ground motions.Seismic performance of this skeleton is then compared to that of a bundled-tube,as a conventional and efficient load-resisting system in order to provide a better perception of the seismic behavior of a hexagrid skeleton.Two 20-story buildings with bundled-tube and hexagrid skeleton were studied.Nonlinear behavior of the structures was investigated through 3-D finite element computer models and nonlinear time history analyses by subjecting the models to seven three-component records of scaled near-field ground motions.Distribution of peak inter story drift and corner beam-column joint rotations were calculated and compared.Results indicated that by replacing the exterior columns of the bundled-tube system with inclined beam-column elements of nature-inspired hexagons,lateral stiffness of the building increased and it would tolerate less deformations before global dynamic instability is reached.The presence of inclined columns in the hexagrid skeleton helped to concentrate local nonlinearities in ring beams rather than exterior columns.展开更多
The Hefei TV tower is taken as an analytical case to examine the control method with a fluid viscous damper under wind load fluctuation.Firstly,according to the random vibration theory,the effect of fluctuating wind o...The Hefei TV tower is taken as an analytical case to examine the control method with a fluid viscous damper under wind load fluctuation.Firstly,according to the random vibration theory,the effect of fluctuating wind on the tower can be modeled as a 19-dimensional correlated random process,and the wind-induced vibration analysis of the tower subjected to dynamic wind load was further obtained.On the basis of the others'works,a bi-model dynamic model is proposed.Finally,a dynamic model is proposed to study the wind-induced vibration control analysis using viscous fluid dampers,and the optimal damping coefficient is obtained regarding the wind-induced response of the upper turret as optimization objectives.Analysis results show that the maximum peak response of the tower under dynamic wind load is far beyond the allowable range of the code.The wind-induced responses and the wind vibration input energy of the tower are decreased greatly by using a fluid viscous damper,and the peak acceleration responses of the upper turret is reduced by 43.4%.展开更多
